  • Assessing and managing multiple risks in a changing worldThe Roskilde recommendations
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. - Hoboken, NJ : Wiley. - 0730-7268 .- 1552-8618. ; 36:1, s. 7-16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Roskilde University (Denmark) hosted a November 2015 workshop, Environmental RiskAssessing and Managing Multiple Risks in a Changing World. This Focus article presents the consensus recommendations of 30 attendees from 9 countries regarding implementation of a common currency (ecosystem services) for holistic environmental risk assessment and management; improvements to risk assessment and management in a complex, human-modified, and changing world; appropriate development of protection goals in a 2-stage process; dealing with societal issues; risk-management information needs; conducting risk assessment of risk management; and development of adaptive and flexible regulatory systems. The authors encourage both cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to address their 10 recommendations: 1) adopt ecosystem services as a common currency for risk assessment and management; 2) consider cumulative stressors (chemical and nonchemical) and determine which dominate to best manage and restore ecosystem services; 3) fully integrate risk managers and communities of interest into the risk-assessment process; 4) fully integrate risk assessors and communities of interest into the risk-management process; 5) consider socioeconomics and increased transparency in both risk assessment and risk management; 6) recognize the ethical rights of humans and ecosystems to an adequate level of protection; 7) determine relevant reference conditions and the proper ecological context for assessments in human-modified systems; 8) assess risks and benefits to humans and the ecosystem and consider unintended consequences of management actions; 9) avoid excessive conservatism or possible underprotection resulting from sole reliance on binary, numerical benchmarks; and 10) develop adaptive risk-management and regulatory goals based on ranges of uncertainty. • β -delayed proton emission from P 26 and S 27
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. - 2469-9985. ; 95:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Delayed emission of protons following β decay of neutron deficient nuclei P26 and S27 was investigated at the ACCULINNA separator in the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at Dubna. Ions of interest, identified in flight, were implanted into the active volume of the gaseous optical time projection chamber, which allowed us to record tracks of charged particles emitted in the decay. Total branching ratios for β-delayed proton emission and for β-delayed two-proton emission were determined. In addition, energy spectra for delayed protons below 2 MeV were established. Our findings for P26 agree with results of previous experiments. In the case of S27, however, the observed probability of delayed proton emission is an order of magnitude larger than reported in literature. Two new strong proton transitions were identified representing decays of the first two excited states of P27 to the ground state of Si26. The probability ratio of γ-to-proton emission from these states is discussed.

  • Conservative management of endometrial cancer : a survey amongst European clinicians
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0932-0067 .- 1432-0711. ; 298, s. 373-380
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To investigate differences and similarities in the clinical approach of young clinicians managing women with endometrial cancer (EC) conservatively.METHODS: A web-based survey was carried out. A platform of the European Network of Young Gynaecological Oncologists (ENYGO) database was used. A 38-item multiple-choice questionnaire was used to evaluate current practice in fertility-sparing management of EC. The survey covered investigations, treatment options, follow-up and management of recurrence and future family planning. Descriptive statistics were used.RESULTS: Overall, 116 out of 650 (17.84%) ENYGO members responded to the survey. In 92 (79.3%) centres, the caseload of early stage EC treated conservatively was less than 10 per year. One hundred and seven responders (93.8%) believe that treatment with progestins could be offered in grade 1 EC without myometrial invasion, but a minority would recommend it even for grade 2 tumours with no myometrial invasion or grade 1 with superficial invasion. The diagnostic tool for establishing grade of tumour was hysteroscopy with dilatation and curettage in 64 (55%) centres. Medroxyprogesterone acetate represents the most commonly prescribed progestogen (55, 47.4%). In 78 (67.2%) centres, a repeat endometrial biopsy was offered after 3 months of treatment commencement. Recurrences are treated mostly with hysterectomy (81, 69.9%) with only a small number of responders recommending to repeat progestin treatment. Lynch syndrome is a contraindication for conservative management in half of the responders (57, 49.1%). Most clinicians agree that patients should be referred promptly for assisted reproductive techniques once complete response has been achieved (68, 58.6%).CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that conservative management is increasingly offered to women affected by early stage EC wishing to preserve their fertility. Further studies and joint registries are required to evaluate safety and effectiveness of this approach in this probably growing number of patients.

  • Evaluation of Trends and Changes in the Gulf of Gdansk Ecosystem-an Integrated Approach
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Estuaries and Coasts. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1559-2723 .- 1559-2731. ; 39:3, s. 593-604
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An integrated trend assessment was conducted for the Gulf of GdaAsk (GoG), Baltic Sea for the period 1994-2010 to describe changes and potentially important drivers of the ecosystem. We found changes in the biota, including an increase in open sea taxa (flatfish, sprat and cod), a decrease in typical coastal species such as eelpout and lumpfish and an increase in primary production. The analyses further suggest that changes in the food web were driven by a combination of anthropogenic pressures (e.g., nutrient loadings and fisheries) and possible interactions with climatic disturbance. Our analyses show that significant changes occurred in the GoG ecosystem between 1994 and 2010. The primary drivers and mechanisms of these changes are discussed. We describe this alteration of the GoG within the context of similar temporal patterns identified in adjacent areas.
