  • Measurements of (XcJ)-> K+K-K+K- decays
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 642:3, s. 197-202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using 14M psi(2S) events taken with the BESII detector, chi(cJ) -> 2(K+K-) decays are studied. For the four-kaon final state, the branching fractions are B(chi(c0,1,2) ->.2(K+K-)) = (3.48 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.47) x 10(-3), (0.70 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.10) x 10(-3), and (2.17 +/- 0.20 +/- 0.31) x 10(-3). For the phi K+K- final state, the branching fractions, which are measured for the first time, are B(chi(c0,1,2) -> phi K+K-) = (1.03 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.15) x 10(-3), (0.46 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.06) x 10(-3), and (1.67 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.24) x 10(-4). For the phi phi final state, B(chi(c0,2) -> phi phi) = (0.94 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13) x 10(-3) and (1.70 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.25) x 10(-3).

  • Small interfering RNA-directed targeting of toll-like receptor 4 inhibits human prostate cancer cell invasion, survival, and tumorigenicity
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Molecular Immunology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0161-5890 .- 1872-9142. ; 46:15, s. 2876-2884
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A major cause of tumor treatment failure is cancer cell metastasis. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-mediated signaling has been implicated in tumor cell invasion, survival, and metastasis in a variety of cancers. In this study, we investigated the biological roles of TLR4 in prostate metastatic cell invasion and survival, and the potential of gene silencing of TLR4 using small interfering RNA (siRNA) for treatment of cancer. In cultured human prostate cancer cell lines, TLR4 were higher PC3 and DU145 as compared with the poorly metastatic LNCaP indicating that up-regulation of TLR4 was positively correlated with metastasis of tumor cell. In the highly metastatic cancer cell PC3, gene silencing of TLR4 using siRNA significantly inhibited TLR4 mRNA expression and protein level. Knockdown of TLR4 in PC3 cells resulted in a dramatic reduction of tumor cell migration and invasion as indicated by a Matrigel invasion assay. Furthermore, TLR4 siRNA suppressed cell viability and ultimately caused the induction of apoptotic cell death. The effects were associated with abrogating TLR4-mediated signaling to downstream target molecules such as myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), adaptor-inducing IFN-beta (TRIF), and interferon regulatory factor-1 (IRF-1). In a mouse prostate cancer model, administration with the plasmid construct expressing siRNA for TLR4 obviously inhibited established tumor growth and survival. These studies revealed evidence of a multifaceted signaling network operating downstream of TLR4-mediated tumor cell invasion, proliferation, and survival. Thus, RNA interference-directed targeting of TLR4 may raise the potential of its application for cancer therapy.

  • The Genome Sequence of Taurine Cattle : A Window to Ruminant Biology and Evolution
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Science. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 0036-8075 .- 1095-9203. ; 324:5926, s. 522-528
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To understand the biology and evolution of ruminants, the cattle genome was sequenced to about sevenfold coverage. The cattle genome contains a minimum of 22,000 genes, with a core set of 14,345 orthologs shared among seven mammalian species of which 1217 are absent or undetected in noneutherian (marsupial or monotreme) genomes. Cattle-specific evolutionary breakpoint regions in chromosomes have a higher density of segmental duplications, enrichment of repetitive elements, and species-specific variations in genes associated with lactation and immune responsiveness. Genes involved in metabolism are generally highly conserved, although five metabolic genes are deleted or extensively diverged from their human orthologs. The cattle genome sequence thus provides a resource for understanding mammalian evolution and accelerating livestock genetic improvement for milk and meat production.

  • Room-temperature photoluminescence of doped 4H-SiC film grown on AlN/Si(100)
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics A. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0947-8396 .- 1432-0630. ; 86:1, s. 145-149
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Well-defined room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) was observed from 4H-SiC films on AlN/Si(100) complex substrates grown at temperatures below 1150 degrees C by the chemical vapor deposition method. The PL spectrum consists of three major emission peaks in the vicinities of 3.03, 3.17 and 3.37 eV. By the combination of experimental measurements and theoretical analysis, the origins of the PL emission peaks have been identified and associated with N donors, Al acceptors in the 4H-SiC films and the band-to-band transition between the second minimum of the conduction band and the top of valance band of the 4H-SiC. The room-temperature SiC PL can be much utilized for optoelectronic high-power, high-frequency and high-temperature applications in the ultraviolet spectral regime.

  • Multifocus Structures of Ultrashort Self-Focusing Laser Beam Observed in a Three-Photon Fluorescent Medium
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0018-9197 .- 1558-1713. ; 45:7, s. 816-824
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Self-focusing effect and multifocus structures of an ultrashort (similar to 160-fs) pulsed laser beam of similar to 1.3-mu m wavelength are investigated in several organic liquids. The intensity-dependent self-focusing formation and multifocus structures of the infrared (IR) laser beam were directly observed in a three-photon active fluorescent dye solution cell, in which a high contrast image of the spatial structure of the self-focusing beam can be obtained due to the cubic dependence of the fluorescence intensity on the local IR laser intensity. By combining this dye solution cell with another cell filled with various transparent organic liquids, the contributions of these tested liquids to the observed self-focusing effect are elucidated. The numerical simulations for this type of self-focusing behavior are presented, based on the assumption that the major contribution to the observed self-focusing is the nonlinear refractive-index change of the solvent due to electronic-cloud distortion. The simulation results are in fairly good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Increased plasma apoM levels in the patients suffered from hepatocellular carcinoma and other chronic liver diseases
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Lipids in Health and Disease. - 1476-511X. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To determine plasma apolipoprotein M ( apoM) levels and other lipid profiles in hepatocellular carcinoma ( HCC) patients compared to other chronic liver diseases and normal subjects. Materials and methods: 36 HCC, 68 chronic hepatitis, 29 liver cirrhosis patients and 64 normal controls were subjected in the present study. Serum lipids, lipoproteins, apolipoprotein AI ( apoAI) and apoB were determined by the conventional methods. Plasma apoM levels were semiquantitatively determined by both dot- blotting and western blotting analysis. Results: Serum levels of triglycerides ( TG), HDL- cholesterol, apoAI and lipoprotein ( a) ( Lp( a)) were significantly lower in the HCC patients than in the normal subjects, whereas there were no obvious differences on serum total cholesterol, LDL- cholesterol and apoB between HCC patients and normal subjects. However, plasma apoM levels in HCC patients were significantly increased than those in the normal subjects, but lower than those in the chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis patients. Conclusion: It is concluded that serum TG, apoAI, HDL- C and Lp( a) were significantly decreased in HCC patients than in controls, whereas plasma apoM levels were significantly increased in the HCC patients. Decreased serum TG, apoAI, HDL- C and Lp( a) may reflect the liver damage in HCC patients, whereas the clinical significance of increased plasma apoM levels in relation to HCC is not clear.

  • Label-free biosensor based on silicon-on-insulator micro-ring resonators
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose a label-free biosensor based on concentric micro-ring resonators in silicon on insulator (SOI). The concentric micro-ring resonators offer another freedom to obtain deeper notches for higher detection sensitivity. The expanded modes also provide larger sensing area. A resonant frequency shift of ∼1.37 nm is demonstrated, by numerical simulations, between the situation of using a single strand DNA and a double strand DNA.

  • Sensitive label-free and compact biosensor based on concentric silicon-on-insulator microring resonators
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Applied Optics. - 1559-128X .- 2155-3165. ; 48:25, s. F90-F94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose an ultracompact parallel label-free biosensor based on concentric silicon-on-insulator microring resonators. Our numerical studies show that the proposed biosensor offers higher sensitivity and a larger detection area than conventional single-ring-based sensors. We analyze the detection sensitivity of the DNA hybridization by immobilizing the probe on top of the double concentric ring resonators and in the ring-ring air gap. For a concentric double-ring system with an area of 27: 646 mu m(2), the bulk detection sensitivity is 683 nm RIU-1. The sensitive uniformity of the system related to the optical field distribution is also studied.
