  • Controllable phytosynthesis of gold nanoparticles and investigation of their size and morphology-dependent photocatalytic activity under visible light
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A. - : Elsevier. - 1010-6030 .- 1873-2666. ; 392, s. 1-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Plants mediated synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) containing desired characteristics for their suitable potential applications has been a challenging task, which is causing a major hindrance towards its commercialization. Therefore, herein phytosynthesis of AuNPs with required size and morphology has been achieved through manipulating the reaction conditions including reaction temperature and volume of Elaeis guineensis leaves (EGL) extract. Furthermore, photocatalytic potential of EGL mediated AuNPs having different size and shape has also been explored for the removal of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The reaction temperature and volume of EGL strongly influenced the size and morphology of AuNPs, which are directly associated with the photocatalytic activities. The experimental results revealed that predominantly spherical and ultra-smaller size AuNPs with particle size of 16.26 ± 5.84 nm, formed at 70 °C showed the highest removal efficiency up to 92.55 % in 60 min. This highest photocatalytic activity of AuNPs could be attributed to the availability of higher number of low-coordinated gold (Au) atoms in the MB aqueous solution, which might have boosted the adsorption of the MB on the surface of particles and accelerated the degradation phenomenon. The proposed photocatalytic degradation mechanism of AuNPs for MB was also explained. The highly photoactive EGL mediated AuNPs with controllable morphology and size could be an advance step in future in chemical and biomedical applications.

  • Surgical repositioning of intraocular lenses after late dislocation: Complications, effect on intraocular pressure, and visual outcomes
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 0886-3350. ; 39:12, s. 1879-1885
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE: To study outcomes after surgery for late intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation and, more specifically, to evaluate different surgical techniques to find predictors of worse visual outcomes, describe postoperative complications, and analyze the effect on intraocular pressure (IOP). SETTING: Department of Ophthalmology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Molndal, Sweden. METHODS: Medical records from cataract surgery, IOL repositioning, and follow-up examinations were reviewed. RESULTS: Ninety-one eyes with in-the-bag (80) or out-of-the-bag (11) late IOL dislocation were consecutively included. In 94% of eyes, the IOLs were repositioned using scleral sutures; 76% of cases were operated on with a posterior approach, including pars plana vitrectomy. The median follow-up was 17 months. Pseudoexfoliation was detected in 57% of eyes. A significant decrease in IOP (mean 3.0 mm Hg) from preoperative values (P=.028) was seen in glaucoma patients. Thirteen eyes had additional surgical procedures. Three cases of retinal detachment occurred. Of the eyes, 59% obtained a Snellen corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of 0.5 or more at followup; 23% of eyes had worse CDVA during the follow-up than preoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: Repositioning surgery for late IOL dislocation with a posterior pars plana approach using scleral suturing of the preexisting IOL appears to be a safe and effective method for restoring visual acuity. Postoperative complications were comparable to previous findings in this field. Patients with glaucoma may have improved IOP regulation. (C) 2013 ASCRS and ESCRS

  • More PAC-Bayes bounds : From bounded losses, to losses with general tail behaviors, to anytime validity
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper, we present new high-probability PAC-Bayes bounds for different types of losses.  Firstly, for losses with a bounded range, we recover a strengthened version of Catoni's bound that holds uniformly for all parameter values. This leads to new fast-rate and mixed-rate bounds that are interpretable and tighter than previous bounds in the literature. In particular, the fast-rate bound is equivalent to the Seeger--Langford bound. Secondly, for losses with more general tail behaviors, we introduce two new parameter-free bounds: a PAC-Bayes Chernoff analogue when the loss' cumulative generating function is bounded, and a bound when the loss' second moment is bounded. These two bounds are obtained using a new technique based on a discretization of the space of possible events for the "in probability" parameter optimization problem. This technique is both simpler and more general than previous approaches optimizing over a grid on the parameters' space. Finally, using a simple technique that is applicable to any existing bound, we extend all previous results to anytime-valid bounds.

  • Exploiting augmented intelligence in the modeling of safety-critical autonomous systems
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Formal Aspects of Computing. - : Springer. - 0934-5043 .- 1433-299X. ; 33:3, s. 343-384
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Machine learning (ML) is used increasingly in safety-critical systems to provide more complex autonomy to make the system to do decisions by itself in uncertain environments. Using ML to learn system features is fundamentally different from manually implementing them in conventional components written in source code. In this paper, we make a first step towards exploring the architecture modeling of safety-critical autonomous systems which are composed of conventional components and ML components, based on natural language requirements. Firstly, augmented intelligence for restricted natural language requirement modeling is proposed. In that, several AI technologies such as natural language processing and clustering are used to recommend candidate terms to the glossary, as well as machine learning is used to predict the category of requirements. The glossary including data dictionary and domain glossary and the category of requirements will be used in the restricted natural language requirement specification method RNLReq, which is equipped with a set of restriction rules and templates to structure and restrict the way how users document requirements. Secondly, automatic generation of SysML architecture models from the RNLReq requirement specifications is presented. Thirdly, the prototype tool is implemented based on Papyrus. Finally, it presents the evaluation of the proposed approach using an industrial autonomous guidance, navigation and control case study.

  • Facilitated vacancy formation at Zr-doped ceria(1 1 1) surfaces
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0039-6028 .- 1879-2758. ; 602:6, s. 1199-1206
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effects of Zr doping on the atomic and electronic properties of the ceria(1 1 1) surface are studied using first-principles density functional theory with the inclusion of on-site Coulomb interaction. The atomic structures, electronic structure, and the vacancy formation energies of the Zr-doped and undoped ceria(1 1 1) surfaces are compared. It is found that (i) Zr doping induces a severe distortion of the unreduced surface structure; (ii) at the reduced Zr-doped ceria(1 1 1) surface, the oxygen anions around the oxygen vacancy show much larger displacements than those on the pure CeO2(1 1 1) surface; (iii) an oxygen vacancy is more easily formed around the Zr dopant, and the reduction energy is lowered by about 0.5 eV; (iv) the excess electrons left by the removed oxygen atom localize on the two Ce cations neighboring the vacancy and thus brings about the reduction of the two Ce4+ ions; and (v) the atomic structure modification induced by the Zr doping plays a vital role in facilitating the reduction of the ceria–zirconia solid solution as compared to the pure ceria.
