    • We extend a measurement-based admission control algorithm suggested for predictive service to provide advance reservations for guaranteed and predictive service while keeping the attractive features of predictive service. The admission decision for advance reservations is based on information about flows that overlap in time. For flows that have not yet started, the requested values are used, and for those that have already started measurements are used. This allows us to estimate the network load accurately for the near future. To provide advance reservations we ask users to include durations in their requests. We provide simulation results to show that predictive service with advance reservations provides utilization levels significantly higher than those for guaranteed service.

    • An important issue in Internet marketing is the possibility of designing autonomous agents that are able to interpret subjective values in goods and services. From the customer's point of view, it is important to evaluate all aspects linked to the product before purchasing, not only easily identified objective parameters such as price. From a marketing perspective, the building of a brand is probably the most efficient way to distinguish a product from those of the competitors. It is therefore important for both customers and marketers to design agents that are able to interpret certain subjective product characteristics when searching for products or services on the Internet. This paper outlines a generic model of an autonomous agent Internet marketing system with a discussion on the possibilities of handling subjective product characteristics.

    • This paper will discuss the future use of the dwelling as a place for cooperative work. It is our opinion that the development of the communication technologies and the architectural design has to be treated in parallel when we discuss new forms of living and work habits. Our analysis is built on a theoretical framework that is reflected through earlier experiences in IT technology in domestic environments as well as field studies of computer-mediated communication. By taking into consideration both architectural and communication technology issues we have developed a framework of how these two areas could fruitfully meet in new design concepts. Some of these concepts are now being used in on-going projects where new forms of communication in domestic environments are studied.

This competence means (a) high ethical awareness, the ability to anticipate ethical problems in real life and to perceive them in time, (b) the skill to analyse and solve them in an optimal way, (c) the capability to discuss and handle moral problems at group and organisation level, and together with significant others formulate ethical guidelines, (d) the power to argue convincingly for preferred actions or decisions made, and (e) the strength to implement controversial decisions.
