  • Computer Security 1981
  • 1976
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The goal of COMPUTER SECURITY 1981 is to prediet the demand for protection of eleetronic data processing (EDP) and for the information processed. To predict the future demands on computer security we have discussed the issue with several people involved in one way or another with EDP. These discussions, our own knowledge other background material have been the material for discussions amongst the authors. The results are divided into two parts. In the first part (section 4) we have been as objective as possible. In the latter part (section 5) we have discussed the differences between the results in section 4 and our own opinion as proffessional researchers. In addition the report covers a summary of how EDP is used 1981 and a section describing the structure of the security field (which we have used in the interviews) and an outline of the investigation.

  • A Study on Conceptual Data Modeling
  • 1979
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The conceptual level of data base systems was introduced by the ANSI/SPARC Interim Report 1975. During the late 1970’s a number of data models and design methods intended for the conceptual level have been suggested. There does not exist any common agreement on the scope and contents of the conceptual level design area. In this study, an attempt is made to informally define the contents of conceptual level design in terms of problem areas. Further, an attempt is made to identify and discuss semantical aspects of conceptual level data base design. For this purpose a number of design methods are analyzed. This analysis aims at identification of relevant aspects and problems within the area. Important aspects identified and discussed concern; inference, redundancy and a temporal dimension. Among these aspects, inference is most thoroughly discussed. Different types of inference are identified. Redundancy is considered as closely related to inference. Requirements of “non-redundancy” in conceptual level models is questioned. The results of this study hopefully contribute to further development of conceptual level models and methods, and to further approaches to classification of such methods.

  • Design and construction of a microdensitometer computer interface
  • 1978
  • Ingår i: Journal of medical systems. - 0148-5598 .- 1573-689X. ; 24:4, s. 315-326
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This project consisted in modifying the output of a scanning microdensitometer so that a computer could accept and process the (optical) density versus position information gathered from radiographic film. The system functions were separated into two parts: the actual datagathering process, which required real-time response, and the calculation associated with the data. Separation of functions allowed a less expensive system overall while still preserving flexibility. For the real-time control computer, a relatively slow microprocessor-based system (Motorola MC6800) was chosen. The microdensitometer was modified to allow computer control of the scan. The density versus position information was digitized using optical shaft encoders. Cassette tape was used as a mass-storage medium for complete scans. Using an acoustic coupler, the microprocessor was cofigured to transmit accumulated data to a timeshare system for analysis. The results were retransmitted and displayed on a TV screen or printed on a line printer or teletype. The total cost of the microprocessor system was a little less than $5,000. The time required to produce the software was 50 to 100 hrs (approximately 1 week).
