  • Muscovite and phlogopite behavior was examined in aqueous solutions with pH 3-9. Mica dissolution was demonstrated to involve ion exchange and adsorption and depend on the acid-basic properties of surface oxides. The rate of mica dissolution is limited by the rate of silicon leaching in acid solutions and by the rate of aluminum leaching in alkaline solutions
