- In some Scandinavian long-houses from the Roman and Migration persiods there has existed a small room between the byre and its nearest gable. Several factors make it likely that it was used for habitation. On the basis of a contextual analysis, it is suggested that it should be interpreted as housing land-less dependants of the estate-owner.
