  • Typical and atypical carcinoid tumors of the lung : a clinicopathological correlation of 783 cases with emphasis on histological features
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Human Pathology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0046-8177. ; 98, s. 98-109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present 783 surgical resections of typical and atypical carcinoid tumors of the lung identified in the pathology files of 20 different pathology departments. All cases were critically reviewed for clinical and pathological features and further correlated with clinical outcomes. Long-term follow-up was obtained in all the patients and statistically analyzed to determine significance of the different parameters evaluated. Of the histopathological features analyzed, the presence of mitotic activity of 4 mitoses or more per 2 mm2, necrosis, lymphatic invasion, and lymph node metastasis were identified as statistically significant. Tumors measuring 3 cm or more were also identified as statistically significant and correlated with clinical outcomes. Based on our analysis, we consider that the separation of low- and intermediate-grade neuroendocrine neoplasms of the lung needs to be readjusted in terms of mitotic count as the risk of overgrading these neoplasms exceeds 10% under the current criteria. We also consider that tumor size is an important feature to be considered in the assessment of these neoplasms and together with the histological grade of the tumor offers important features that can be correlated with clinical outcomes.

  • Effects of Parental Warmth and Behavioral Control on Adolescent Externalizing and Internalizing Trajectories Across Cultures
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of research on adolescence. - : Wiley. - 1050-8392 .- 1532-7795. ; 30:4, s. 835-855
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigated the effects of parental warmth and behavioral control on externalizing and internalizing symptom trajectories from ages 8 to 14 in 1,298 adolescents from 12 cultural groups. We did not find that single universal trajectories characterized adolescent externalizing and internalizing symptoms across cultures, but instead found significant heterogeneity in starting points and rates of change in both externalizing and internalizing symptoms across cultures. Some similarities did emerge. Across many cultural groups, internalizing symptoms decreased from ages 8 to 10, and externalizing symptoms increased from ages 10 to 14. Parental warmth appears to function similarly in many cultures as a protective factor that prevents the onset and growth of adolescent externalizing and internalizing symptoms, whereas the effects of behavioral control vary from culture to culture. © 2020 Society for Research on Adolescence

  • The trade-offs of co-ruminating with friends : A profile analysis
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of research on adolescence. - : Blackwell Publishing. - 1050-8392 .- 1532-7795. ; 33:3, s. 957-972
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adolescents' co-ruminating with friends has been tied to trade-offs: having higher quality friendships but experiencing more depressive symptoms. To determine if individual youth experience these trade-offs, we applied a person-centered approach to Swedish adolescents' self-reports of co-rumination with friends, depressive symptoms, and friend support (n = 2767, aged 12-16, 52% girls; 88% Swedish). We found four latent profiles: Two high in co-rumination and two low. One high co-rumination profile exhibited the proposed trade-offs; the other reported high friendship support and fewer depressive symptoms. Comparisons indicated that the trade-offs profile were primarily girls and exhibited comparatively more difficulties with stress regulation, conceptions of their parents and themselves, and relations with peers. Focusing on the complexity of co-rumination could reveal further nuances.

  • To what extent are perfusion defects seen by myocardial perfusion SPECT in patients with left bundle branch block related to myocardial infarction, ECG characteristics, and myocardial wall motion?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1071-3581 .- 1532-6551. ; 28:6, s. 2910-2922
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: We investigated if uptake pattern on myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) in patients with left bundle branch block (LBBB) is related to myocardial fibrosis, myocardial wall motion, and electrocardiography (ECG) characteristics. Methods: Twenty-three patients (9 women) with LBBB, examined with MPS and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), were included. Tracer uptake on MPS was classified by visual interpretation as typical LBBB pattern (Defect+, n = 13) or not (Defect−, n = 10) and quantitatively. CMR images were evaluated for wall thickness and for myocardial wall motion both by visual assessment and by regional myocardial radial strain from feature tracking, and for presence and location of myocardial fibrosis. ECGs were analyzed regarding QRS duration and the presence of strict criteria for LBBB. Results: Wall thickness was slightly lower in the septum compared to the lateral wall in Defect+ patients (5.6 ± 1.1 vs 6.0 ± 1.3 mm, P = 0.03) but not in Defect− patients (5.6 ± 1.0 vs 5.6 ± 0.9 mm, P = 0.84). Defect+ patients showed a larger proportion of dyskinetic segments in the septum and hyperkinetic segments in the lateral wall compared to Defect− patients (P = 0.006 and P = 0.004, respectively). Decreased myocardial radial strain was associated with decreased tracer uptake by MPS (R = 0.37, P < 0.001). Areas of fibrosis did not match areas with uptake defect on MPS. No differences in ECG variables were seen. Conclusion: The heterogeneous regional tracer uptake in some patients with LBBB is related to underlying regional myocardial dyskinesia, wall thickening, and wall thickness rather than stress-induced ischemia, myocardial fibrosis, or specific ECG characteristics.
