Beta-Decay to the Proton Halo State in F-17
- 1993
-
Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 317:1-2, s. 25-30

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- In the first experiment at the newly constructed ISOLDE Facility the first-forbidden beta-decay of Ne-17 into the first excited state of F-17 has been measured. It is a factor two faster than the corresponding mirror decay and thus gives one of the largest recorded asymmetries for beta decays feeding bound final states. Shell-model calculations can only reproduce the asymmetry if the halo structure of the F-17 state is taken into account.

Elucidating halo structure by beta decay: beta gamma from the Li-11 decay
- 1997
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 55:1, s. R8-R11

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- New values for the gamma ray intensities following the beta decay of Li-11 are presented. Special emphasis is put on the determination of the Gamow-Teller transition Li-11 --> Be-11 (1/2(-), 320 keV) to the only bound excited state in Be-11. We show that a shell-model calculation can simultaneously reproduce the half-life of Li-11 and the newly measured branching ratio to the 1/2(-) state provided the Li-11 ground state wave function contains about 50% of s-wave neutron components.

Probing the Li-11 halo structure through beta-decay into the Be-11(*) (18 MeV) state
- 1997
-
Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 613:3, s. 199-208
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- An experimental study of beta-delayed charged particles (H, He, Be) from Li-11 shows a beta-feeding to an excited state at 18.15(15) MeV in Be-11 with a large Gamow-Teller strength, B-GT greater than or equal to 1.6. Branching ratios and reduced widths of 2-, 3- and 5- particle decay channels of this state are extracted, A strong suppression of the neutron branch from the 18 MeV state to the Be-10(g.s.) is observed, We suggest that the measured partial width may be sensitive to the (p(1/2))(2) component in the Li-11 halo, A rough estimate indicates that the (p(1/2))(2) component is not the dominant one in the halo wave-function.

Study of Charged-Particles Emitted in the Beta-Decay of He-6,He-8
- 1993
-
Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 560:2, s. 664-676
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The beta-delayed charged particle spectra from He-6 and He-8 were measured with a telescope consisting of a gas counter and a Si surface barrier detector. Beta-delayed deuterons and tritons are emitted in the two cases with branching ratios of (7.6 +/- 0.6) x 10(-6), E(d) > 350 keV and (8.0 +/- 0.5) x 10(-3), respectively. Both spectra present anomalies that must be due to the special structure of these nuclei (an alpha core surrounded by several neutrons).

Super-Allowed Beta-Decay of Nuclei at the Drip-Line
- 1991

Ingår i: Zeitschrift fur Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei. - 1431-5831 .- 0939-7922. ; 340:3, s. 255-261

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- We have investigated the continuous particle spectra following the beta decay of the neutron-rich nuclei that terminate the mass 6, 8, 9 and 11 isobaric chains. Strong beta transitions feeding the very top of the spectrum are found systematically. The favoured states are within a few MeV of the energy of the initial state. This phenomenon seems to be linked to the occurrence of a di-neutron structure or neutron halo in the drip-line nuclei.

Large spin alignment of the unbound He-5 fragment after fragmentation of 240 MeV/nucleon He-6
- 1997
-
Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114 .- 0031-9007. ; 79:2, s. 201-204
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Peripheral fragmentation of a 240 MeV/nucleon beam of the halo nucleus He-6 incident on carbon target has been studied in a kinematically complete experiment. It is found that one-neutron stripping to the unbound nucleus He-5 is the dominant fragmentation mechanism and that it leads to a spin alignment of He-5 in a plane perpendicular to the He-5 momentum vector. This is expected to be a common feature for all neutron halo nuclei.

Experimental-Determination of Cross-Talk between Neutron Detectors
- 1992
-
Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - 0168-9002. ; 317:1-2, s. 273-280
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Neutron cross-talk measurements have been performed with 14.1 MeV neutrons for organic scintillator detectors with n-gamma discrimination capability. The probability for cross-talk between two 156 mm thick neutron detectors with a hexagonal cross section (effective diameter 167 mm) placed 0.33 m apart was found to be (2.5+/-1.1) 10(-4). A similar measurement between two 100 mm thick, cylindrically shaped detectors with 50 mm diameter and at 75 mm distance from each other yielded a cross-talk probability of (2.5+/-0.4) 10(-3). The measured cross-talk probabilities are in agreement with values from a Monte Carlo calculation.

Ar-31 examined: New limit on the beta-delayed three-proton branch
- 1999
-
Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 59:4, s. 2275-2277
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- We have remeasured the decay of Ar-31 with a setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches and obtained. a new limit of 1.1 x 10(-3) (99% C.L.) on the beta-delayed three-proton branch between the isobaric analog state in Cl-31 and the ground state of Si-28. This a factor of 17 below the previously reported first observation of beta-delayed three-proton emission in Ar-31. The limit on a possible beta 3p branch to the first excited state in Si-28 is 2.9 x 10(-4). [S0556-2813(99)04404-0].
