  • Culturally queer, silenced in school? Children with LGBTQ parents, and the everyday politics of/in community and school
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Lambda Nordica. Tidskrift för homo/lesbisk/bi/transforskning. - : Föreningen Lambda Nordica. ; 16:2-3, s. 159-186
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Children with lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and/or queer (LGBTQ) parents have received heightened attention during the processes of policy making regarding adoption and donor insemination legislation in Sweden during the 1990s and early 2000s. Yet, very little academic knowledge exists about children and young people in LGBTQ families and their experiences in schools. We engage the idea of "culturally queer" as a potentially useful framework for understanding the experiences of children and young people with LGBTQ parents. School, with its major impact on young people's lives, is one of the sites where family as discourse and practise is negotiated. This is why a group of researchers from Humboldt University, Berlin (Germany), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Lund University (Sweden) are undertaking a study on the school experiences of children and young people with LGBTQ parents. Our first aim is to discuss how these kids are recognized within queer communities. Our second aim is to analyze what we see as a problematic silence in school around children and young people with LGBTQ parents. This is about the powerful and everyday workings of normative understandings of who family should be. Schools and teachers might not see the need to actively include non-normative family-structures in their work. This seemingly innocent-looking process in fact re-constructs ideals of family, childhood, sexuality and gender. It is necessary to actively work against the silencing of kids with LGBTQ parents in the context of school. This is important for these kids; it is equally important for children and young people with heterosexual parents to see that family can be more than mum-dad-child. We see this as a part of the long-established debate in queer theorizing and activism about the meaning and practises of 'family'. We see a need to further theorize the currently ongoing normalization of queer families. At the same time, there is an equally ongoing need for struggle against indirect homophobia and transphobia.

  • Vi ska skapa den nya kvinnan som är stolt över vad hon är! : Om figurationen ‘den kvinnoidentifierade kvinnan’:s betydelse för lesbiska feminister under 1970- och 1980-talen i Sverige”
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Lambda Nordica. - 1100-2573 .- 2001-7286. ; :1, s. 87-125
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the article, I discuss the importance of the figuration ”the woman-identified woman” to lesbian feminists in Sweden during the 1970s and 1980s. I examine which idea based content the figuration was given, as well as the different ways it was manifested, depending on whether it was shaped by socialist radical lesbian feminists, lesbian cultural feminists or lesbian postmodern feminists. The concept figuration should be associated with a material and political mapping of situated and bodily positions. Theoretically, I’m inspired by the social movement researchers Verta Taylor and Nancy E. Whittier, who are working with the concepts ”boundaries,” ”consciousness,” and ”(re)negotiation.” The article states that the figuration ”the woman-identified woman” becomes important for lesbian feminists, as it (re)negotiates the ways in which lesbian women understood their identities. The figuration contains ideas that politicizes lesbianism and associate it with political solidarity between women. The 1970s socialist radical lesbian feminists shaped ”the woman- identified woman” through creating boundaries towards an older generation of homosexual women. By identifying with and desiring the figuration, they speak of themselves as women identified, conscious feminist and socialist. During the 1980s two new generations of lesbian feminists appear – the lesbian cultural feminists and the lesbian postmodern feminists. The former downplay the socialist element in the figuration, and connect it to a women- identified body, celebrating the female and goddess-like, which only can exist beyond the patriarchy. The latter view ”the woman-identified woman” as hostile towards sexuality, and distance themselves from the figuration.

  • Mellan välvilja och förakt : En etnografi av kategoriseringar i staden
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Lambda Nordica. - 1100-2573 .- 2001-7286. ; 17:1-2, s. 102-120
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article examines the benevolence that young people who use wheelchairsencounter from unknown people. Benevolence is considered as a form of compassionthat hides contempt for what is perceived as deviant from the norm. Byusing Sartre’s idea of the stickiness of matter and Young’s concept of ascribedidentities, benevolence is also being studied as something that turns into internalisedself-loathing among the young wheelchair users. Through the twodifferent perspectives, the cultural bases of benevolence are analysed as powerrelations between people.

  • Ingår i: Lambda Nordica. - 1100-2573 .- 2001-7286. ; 17:1-2, s. 217-223
  • Recension (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Resonemanget ger oss utgångspunkter för att diskutera stirrandets kulturella koreografi som det behandlas i Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Staring: how we look (2009) och Alice Domurat Dreger, One of us: conjoined twins and the future of normal (2004). Dessa båda studier ger möjligheten att undersöka vilka specifika kroppsliga uttryck stirrandets kulturella koreografi skapar.
