  • Nonlinear self-adjointness of the Krichever-Novikov equation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Communications in nonlinear science & numerical simulation. - : Elsevier. - 1007-5704 .- 1878-7274. ; 19:2, s. 361-363
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is known that the classification of third-order evolutionary equations with the constant separant possessing a nontrivial Lie-Bäcklund algebra (in other words, integrable equations) results in the linear equation, the KdV equation and the Krichever-Novikov equation. The first two of these equations are nonlinearly self-adjoint. This property allows to associate conservation laws of the equations in question with their symmetries. The problem on nonlinear self-adjointness of the Krichever-Novikov equation has not been solved yet. In the present paper we solve this problem and find the explicit form of the differential substitution providing the nonlinear self-adjointness.

  • Low Degree of Separation does not Guarantee Easy Coordination
  • 2012
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the times of increased global competition, software companies are forced to search for more effective development practices and often team up with onshore and offshore partners to development faster and better products. Research literature in the field of offshore software development highlights a lot of various benefits, which organizations may gain. However, the warnings of potential problems are many more. Tough experiences with offshore development problems may suggest that low degree of separation, e.g. collaboration within the nation boundaries, minimizes the problems inherited in offshore collaborations. In reality, some of the problems, however, still occur. In this paper we empirically explore a highly distributed onshore development project with a complex coordination structure. Our findings demonstrate that onshore development projects are not protected from coordination and communication challenges and task allocation complexities. Previously reported qualitative findings regarding organizational problems in this paper are supplemented with quantitative measurements of the true coordination delays and additional analysis of coordination patterns and their evolution.

  • Ingår i: Home care across Europe. - : European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. - 9789289002882 ; , s. 55-70, s. 55-70
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For every person over the age of 65 in today’s European Union, there are four people of working age but, by 2050, there will only be two. Demand for long-term care, of which home care forms a significant part, will inevitably increase in the decades to come. Despite the importance of the issue, however, up-to-date and comparative information on home care in Europe is lacking. This book attempts to fill some of that gap by examining current European policy on home care services and strategies. Home care across Europe probes a wide range of topics including the links between social services and health-care systems, the prevailing funding mechanisms, how service providers are paid, the impact of governmental regulation, and the complex roles played by informal caregivers. Drawing on a set of Europe-wide case studies (available in a second, online volume), the study provides comparable descriptive information on many aspects of the organization, financing and provision of home care across the continent. It is a text that will help frame the coming debate about how best to serve elderly citizens as European populations age.

  • Effect of resonant absorption in viscous and dry vibrating contact : Mathematical models and theory connected with slow dynamics and friction welding
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Communications in nonlinear science & numerical simulation. - : Elsevier. - 1007-5704 .- 1878-7274. ; 19:2, s. 337-344
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Process of heating of thin layer located between two vibrating surfaces is studied. Energy loss goes on due to viscous or dry friction. Optimal quantities of shear viscosity and friction corresponding to maximum energy loss are determined. Resonant behavior of loss must be taken into account in the description of "slow dynamics" of rocks and materials exposed to high-intensity seismic or acoustic irradiation as well as in various technologies. Bonding of materials by linear friction welding, widely used in propulsion engineering, can exemplify such a technology.

  • Integration of ordinary differential equation with a small parameter via approximate symmetries : Reduction of approximate symmetry algebra to a canonical form
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics. - : Pleiades Publishing. - 1995-0802. ; 31:2, s. 141-151
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Method of integration of second-order ordinary differential equations with twodimensional Lie symmetry algebras by reducing basic symmetries to canonical forms is extended to second-order equations with a small parameter for their approximate integration using two essential approximate symmetries. Canonical forms of basic operators of corresponding approximate Lie algebras Lr, r = 2, 3, 4, as well as general forms of invariant differential equations and their solutions are presented. The similar problems are also solved for systems of two first-order ordinary differential equations with two approximate symmetries.

  • Education to promote culturally competent nursing care : A content analysis of student responses
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Nurse Education Today. - : Elsevier. - 0260-6917 .- 1532-2793. ; 30, s. 54-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to describe and analyse the outcome of a 3-year study program from a student perspective for the purpose of promoting culturally congruent nursing care. Students were asked to complete questionnaires that included cases with open-ended questions at the beginning and end of the 3-yesr program. Two nursing situations were described and the students had to imagine how they would act in such cases. Ninety-two students completed the two questionnaires and the result of a manifest content analysis of their answers is presented. Four categories were formulated from the content analysis: an inviting attitude, a non-inviting attitude, a knowledge driven attitude and a non-knowledge driven attitude. An inviting attitude meant that the students found different strategies for approaching the patient and his/her spouse or parent. A non-inviting attitude implied that the students became frustrated with the situation and had more difficulty finding solutions that would enhance the relationship. A knowledge-driven attitude meant that the students described how they found it important to base nursing actions on knowledge of the patient. A non-knowledge-driven attitude meant that the students´responses indicated that they did not consider knowledge to be the foundation of their nursing actions. The study demonstrated marked changes in the students´approaches to culturally sensitive issues at the end of the program.

  • A Decision Support Framework for Metric Selection in Goal-Based Measurement Programs : GQM-DSFMS
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Systems and Software. - : Elsevier. - 0164-1212. ; 86:12, s. 3091-3108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Software organizations face challenges in managing and sustaining their measurement programs over time. The complexity of measurement programs increase with exploding number of goals and metrics to collect. At the same time, organizations usually have limited budget and resources for metrics collection. It has been recognized for quite a while that there is the need for prioritizing goals, which then ought to drive the selection of metrics. On the other hand, the dynamic nature of the organizations requires measurement programs to adapt to the changes in the stakeholders, their goals, information needs and priorities. Therefore, it is crucial for organizations to use structured approaches that provide transparency, traceability and guidance in choosing an optimum set of metrics that would address the highest priority information needs considering limited resources. This paper proposes a decision support framework for metrics selection (DSFMS) which is built upon the widely used Goal Question Metric (GQM) approach. The core of the framework includes an iterative goal-based metrics selection process incorporating decision making mechanisms in metrics selection, a pre-defined Attributes/Metrics Repository, and a Traceability Model among GQM elements. We also discuss alternative prioritization and optimization techniques for organizations to tailor the framework according to their needs. The evaluation of the GQM-DSFMS framework was done through a case study in a CMMI Level 3 software company.
