  • Observation of water vapor in the stratosphere of Jupiter with the Odin space telescope
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Planetary and Space Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0032-0633. ; 56:12, s. 1573-1584
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The water vapor line at 557 GHz has been observed with the Odin space telescope with a high signal-to-noise ratio and a high spectral resolution on November 8, 2002. The analysis of this observation as well as a re-analysis of previously published observations obtained with the submillimeter wavelength astronomy satellite seem to favor a cometary origin (Shoemaker-Levy 9) for water in the stratosphere of Jupiter, in agreement with the ISO observation results. Our model predicts that the water line should become fainter and broader from 2007. The observation of such a temporal variability would be contradictory with an IDP steady flux, thus supporting the SL9 source hypothesis. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.

  • Different timetables for change: understanding processes in reorganizations--a qualitative study in a psychiatric sector in Sweden
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of health organization and management. - : Emerald. - 1477-7266. ; 19:4-5, s. 355-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is well‐known that a decrease in economic resources in health care results in increased workload, stress and pressure on personnel. The main aim of this study was to explore and understand how personnel in health care were influenced by multiple obligations in the context of a changing surrounding.Design/methodology/approachPersonnel within psychiatry were interviewed in an open‐ended, interactive mode. The transcribed interviews were analysed using grounded theory as the method of study.FindingsThese professionals working within a turbulent work situation experienced a struggle between external demands and internal obligations of an ethical or ideological character. For many of them earlier psychological contracts were broken, earlier organizational culture was overthrown and their professional authority was threatened. They were required to change or abandon well‐established professional identities. Fundamental changes such as the transition of theoretical framework or revision of internal obligations have quite a different timetable from a technical change of method or organizational structure.Practical implicationsThe findings of two timetables for change should be addressed when considering reorganizations. If these findings are applied to personnel in health care, seeing them also as patients in the system may be avoided.Originality/valueThe different timetables for external change and internal reorganization, with support from findings in in‐depth interviews, have not been described until now.

  • Differential mechanisms for T lymphocyte recruitment in normal and neoplastic human gastric mucosa
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Clin Immunol. - : Elsevier BV. ; 118:1, s. 24-34
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Worldwide, gastric adenocarcinoma (GC) is the second most common cause of death from malignant disease. The reason why immune responses are unable to clear the tumour is not fully understood, although aberrant lymphocyte recruitment to the tumour site might be one factor. Therefore, we investigated the homing phenotype of mucosal T lymphocytes in GC, compared to tumour-free mucosa. We could detect significantly decreased frequencies of mucosal homing alpha4beta7+ T cells in the tumour tissues and increased frequencies of L-selectin+ T cells. This was probably due to the correlated decrease in MAdCAM-1 positive and increase in PNAd positive blood vessels in the tumour mucosa. There were also fewer CXCR3+ T lymphocytes in the tumour tissue. These findings provide evidence that endothelial cells within tumours arising at mucosal sites do not support extravasation of typical mucosa-infiltrating T cells. This may be of major relevance for future immunotherapeutic strategies for treatment of GC.

  • House dust mite allergen activates human eosinophils via formyl peptide receptor and formyl peptide receptor-like 1
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Eur J Immunol. ; 37:7, s. 1966-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The objective was to evaluate which receptors house dust mite (HDM) and birch pollen extracts engage to activate human eosinophils. Chemotaxis and degranulation were studied in eosinophils pretreated with pertussis toxin and other antagonists of G protein-coupled receptors, e.g. the formyl peptide receptor (FPR), CC chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3) and leukotriene receptor B4 (LTB(4)R). Inhibition of the FPR as well as desensitization of the receptor rendered eosinophils anergic to activation by the allergens. Blockade of CCR3 or LTB(4)R did not affect eosinophilic reactivity. It was determined by PCR that human eosinophils express the FPR family members FPR and FPR-like 1 (FPRL1). HDM, unlike birch pollen, evoked calcium fluxes in HL-60 cells transfected with FPR or FPRL1. Although both allergens gave rise to calcium transients in neutrophils, which also express FPR and FPRL1, only the HDM response was decreased by the FPR antagonist. Moreover, neutrophils migrated toward HDM but not to birch pollen. Eosinophils pretreated with inhibitors of MAPK p38, ERK1/2 or protein kinase C exhibited diminished responsiveness to the aeroallergens. This study indicates that FPR and FPRL1 mediate the activation of eosinophils by HDM, whereas birch pollen employs other pathways shared with FPR to activate human eosinophils.
