  • The Dalton quantum chemistry program system
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: WIREs Computational Molecular Science. - : Wiley. - 1759-0876 .- 1759-0884. ; 4:3, s. 269-284
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dalton is a powerful general-purpose program system for the study of molecular electronic structure at the Hartree-Fock, Kohn-Sham, multiconfigurational self-consistent-field, MOller-Plesset, configuration-interaction, and coupled-cluster levels of theory. Apart from the total energy, a wide variety of molecular properties may be calculated using these electronic-structure models. Molecular gradients and Hessians are available for geometry optimizations, molecular dynamics, and vibrational studies, whereas magnetic resonance and optical activity can be studied in a gauge-origin-invariant manner. Frequency-dependent molecular properties can be calculated using linear, quadratic, and cubic response theory. A large number of singlet and triplet perturbation operators are available for the study of one-, two-, and three-photon processes. Environmental effects may be included using various dielectric-medium and quantum-mechanics/molecular-mechanics models. Large molecules may be studied using linear-scaling and massively parallel algorithms. Dalton is distributed at no cost from for a number of UNIX platforms.

  • Recognition as a valued human being: perspectives of mental health service users
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nursing ethics. - : SAGE Publications. - 1477-0989 .- 0969-7330. ; 19:3, s. 357-368
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The acknowledgement of basic human vulnerability in relationships between mental health service users and professionals working in community-based mental health services (in Norway) was a starting point. The purpose was to explore how users of these services describe and make sense of their meetings with other people. The research is collaborative, with researcher and person with experienced-based knowledge cooperating through the research process. Data is derived from 19 interviews with 11 people who depend on mental health services for assistance at least three times a week. Data is analysed according to the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Results confirm that reciprocity is fundamental for relationships, and that recognizing the individual entails personal involvement. The participants describe a struggle, and recognizing this struggle may help the professional to achieve a deeper understanding of the individual.

  • Pollen morphology of the genus Potentilla (Rosaceae) in Iran
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Acta Botanica Hungarica. ; 54:1-2, s. 1-16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pollen morphology of 28 species of the genus Potentilla (Rosaceae) and four related gen- era from Iran was examined using light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The pollen grains are radially symmetrical, isopolar to subisopolar, trizonocolpate and col- porate. The shape of pollen grains in all the studied taxa varies from prolate-spheroidal to subprolate and prolate. The outline of the pollen grains is elliptical in equatorial view and triangular-circular in polar view. The size of the pollen grains is small to medium. Our re- sults showed two main types of exine sculpturing. Among the studied pollen grain charac- ters, shape and size are helpful evidences for separating different sections, while the exine sculpturing type provides limited taxonomic value.

  • Predicting cardiotoxicity propensity of the novel iodinated contrast medium GE-145: ventricular fibrillation during left coronary arteriography in pigs.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Acta Radiologica. - : SAGE Publications. - 1600-0455 .- 0284-1851. ; 51, s. 1007-1013
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Severe side effects caused by iodinated radiographic contrast media (CM) are rare, but can occur in high risk patients and during percutaneous coronary intervention. To minimize this risk a new nonionic CM with low inherent osmolality has been designed, giving room for a relatively high concentration of favorable electrolytes in the isotonic formulation. Purpose: To test a new radiographic CM (GE-145) in a pig model of cardiotoxicity by comparing its ventricular fibrillation (VF) propensity and hemodynamic effects to that of iodixanol. Material and Methods: Test agents were injected into the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) of pigs through an inflated balloon catheter (injection volume 25 ml, injection rate 0.4 ml/s, maximum injection time 62.5 s). Series 1: GE-145 (338 mg I/ml) + 45 mM NaCl and iodixanol (321 mg I/ml) + 19 mM NaCl were injected in five pigs. Series 2: GE-145 (320 mg I/ml) + 45 mM NaCl + 0.1, 0.3, or 0.7 mM CaCl(2) and iodixanol (320 mg I/ml) + 19 mM NaCl + 0.3 mM CaCl(2) (Visipaque) were injected in six pigs. Results: Iodixanol + NaCl caused VF in 6 of 13 injections (46%) after 60.3+/-7.5 s (mean +/- SD). GE-145 + NaCl did not cause any VF in 13 injections (0%) (P<0.05). Iodixanol + 19 mM NaCl + 0.3 mM CaCl(2) caused VF in 9 of 9 injections (100%) after 61+/-4 s. GE-145 + 45 mM NaCl + 0.1, 0.3, or 0.7 mM CaCl(2) did not cause any VF during or after 9 injections of each agent (0%) (P<0.05). The least hemodynamic effects were seen with GE-145 + 45 mM NaCl + 0.7 mM CaCl(2). Conclusion: In this model of direct administration of CM into the LAD of anesthetized pigs, the tested GE-145 formulations had a significantly lower propensity to induce VF than iodixanol with electrolytes. Favorable hemodynamic properties of GE-145 can be achieved by optimizing concentrations of sodium and calcium.

  • Strengthening practical wisdom: mental health workers' learning and development
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nursing ethics. - : SAGE Publications. - 1477-0989 .- 0969-7330. ; 21:6, s. 707-719
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Practical wisdom, understood as knowing how to be or act in any present situation with clients, is believed to be an essential part of the knowledge needed to be a professional mental health worker. Exploring processes of adapting, extending knowledge and refining tacit knowledge grounded in mental health workers’ experiences with being in practice may bring awareness of how mental health workers reflect, learn and practice professional ‘artistry’. Research question: The aim of the article was to explore mental health workers’ processes of development and learning as they appeared in focus groups intended to develop practical wisdom. The main research question was ‘How might the processes of development and learning contribute to developing practical wisdom in the individual as well as in the practice culture?’ Research design: The design was multi-stage focus groups, and the same participants met four times. A phenomenological hermeneutical method for researching lived experience guided the analysis. Participants and context: Eight experienced mental health workers representing four Norwegian municipalities participated. The research context was community-based mental health services. Ethical considerations: The study was reported to Norwegian Social Data Services, and procedures for informed consent were followed. Findings: Two examples of processes of re-evaluation of experience (Association, Integration, Validation, Appropriation and Outcomes and action) were explored. The health workers had developed knowledge in previous encounters with clients. In sharing practice experiences, this knowledge was expressed and developed, and also tested and validated against the aims of practice. Discussions led to adapted and extended knowledge, and as tacit knowledge was expressed it could be used actively. Discussion: Learning to reflect, being ready to be provoked and learning to endure indecisiveness may be foundational in developing practical wisdom. Openness is demanding, and changing habits of mind is difficult. Conclusion: Reflection on, and confrontation with, set practices are essential to building practice cultures in line with the aims of mental health services.

  • LEAF INDUMENTUM TYPES IN POTENTILLA (ROSACEAE) AND RELATED GENERA IN IRAN
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: ACTA SOCIETATIS BOTANICORUM POLONIAE. - 0001-6977. ; 79:2, s. 139-145
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Indumentum types of the leaves in 31 species of Potentilla L. (Rosaceae) and four related genera, especially Tylospermaa Botsch., Schistophyllidium (Juz. ex Fed.) Ikonn., Drymocallis Fourr. ex Rydb., and Sibbaldia L. from Iran were investigated. Indumentum ultrastructure was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM observation revealed three type classes based on leaf indumentum: 1) straight Oppressed erect); 2) straight-erect and crispate, and 3) crispate-floccose. The straight hair character (1 type class) is widely distributed among all genera sampled and six sections of Potentilla. In contrast the crispate-floccose indumentum (III type class) is confined to all examined species of sections Speciosae and Pensylvanicae. While some sections especially Rectae (straight and straight - crispate hairs) and Terminales (straight - crispate and floccose - crispate) posses two indumentum type classes. The present survey shows that indumentum types are of systematic importance and may form good key characters for identification purposes.
