  • Self-organized hexagonal patterns of independent magnetic nanodots
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : Wiley. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 19:24, s. 4375-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A method for producing self-organised arrays of nanometric metallic dots is reported. It consists on developing first the nanodot pattern by ion erosion on a semiconductor cover film and transferring it to a previously buried metallic layer. This procedure has been applied to Co, and the ferromagnetic behaviour of the dots at room temperature is demonstrated.

  • Carrier-envelope phase stabilization of a multi-millijoule, regenerative-amplifier-based chirped-pulse amplifier system
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087. ; 17:23, s. 21091-21097
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article reports on the successful stabilization of the carrier-envelope phase of a 1-kHz laser system that includes a large grating stretcher, a regenerative amplifier, a multipass amplifier and a grating compressor. Phase stability for pulse energies up to 6 mJ is demonstrated using electronic feedback to the oscillator locking electronics as well as feedback via an acousto-optic programmable dispersive filter. • Experimental investigation of the spin reorientation of Co/Au based magnetic nanodot arrays
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 77:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • (Co/Au) and (Au/ Co/ Au) nanomagnet arrays grown on nanostructured self-organized SiGe templates have been characterized by means of x-ray photoemission electron microscopy, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, and by extended x-ray absorption spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation. In-plane magnetization is observed at room temperature for practically all Co thicknesses, a stable macroscopic perpendicular magnetic order only at low temperature. The spin reorientation transition in these dot arrays takes place for smaller Co thicknesses over a broader thickness range than in two-dimensional systems. This finding appears to be related with structural relaxation modifications, occurring within the local Co atom environment, which are not necessarily connected with the orbital moment variations. These variations appear in the form of a systematic increase, correlated with the existence of out-of-plane magnetization.

  • Spatial and spectral properties of the high-order harmonic emission in argon for seeding applications
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A (Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics). - 1050-2947. ; 79:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We characterize and control the harmonic emission in the spectral and spatial domains in order to define in which conditions the harmonic radiation can be a high-quality seed for soft x-ray and x-ray free-electron lasers. The length of the gas cell, where harmonics are generated, was optimized and the energy per pulse was determined in absolute value with a calibrated x-ray photodiode. The beam spatial profile was measured and, in some conditions, a very collimated beam with a half-angle divergence below 1 mrad could be obtained. We also show that increasing the intensity of the fundamental laser field leads to a considerable broadening of the bandwidth of the harmonic radiation, allowing us to cover a large spectral range. This effect is due to fundamental reshaping leading to an efficient phase matching of both short- and long-trajectory contributions.

  • Association of small CAB-like proteins (SCPs) of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 with Photosystem II
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Photosynthesis Research. - : SpringerLink. - 0166-8595 .- 1573-5079. ; 95:2/3, s. 135-145
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The cyanobacterial small CAB-like proteins (SCPs) are one-helix proteins with compelling similarity to the first and third transmembrane helix of proteins belonging to the CAB family of light-harvesting complex proteins in plants. The SCP proteins are transiently expressed at high light intensity and other stress conditions but their exact function remains largely unknown. Recently we showed association of ScpD with light-stressed, monomeric Photosystem II in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (Yao et al. J Biol Chem 282:267-276, 2007). Here we show that ScpB associates with Photosystem II at normal growth conditions. Moreover, upon introduction of a construct into Synechocystis so that ScpB is expressed continuously under normal growth conditions, ScpE was detected under non-stressed conditions as well, and was copurified with tagged ScpB and Photosystem II. We also report on a one-helix protein, Slr1544, that is somewhat similar to the SCPs and whose gene is cotranscribed with that of ScpD; Slr1544 is another member of the extended light-harvesting-like (Lil) protein family, and we propose to name it LilA.

  • Digital in-line holography with a single high-order harmonic pulse
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Holography : Advances and Modern Trends - Advances and Modern Trends. - : SPIE. - 9780819476326 ; 7358
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we review the optimization and characterization of a high-order harmonic generation (HHG) source for application in coherence imaging, and the use of this light source in a digital in-line holography setup. The high-order harmonic beam is generated by focusing a powerful infrared beam into an Ar gas cell. The length of the cell and the focusing parameters are optimized to maximize the HHG output. By spectrally filtering and focusing the generated harmonic beam and positioning a 2D detector, we obtain a table-top light source suitable for in-line holography, capable of recording a hologram with a single 40 fs XUV pulse. The reconstructed images have a spatial resolution in the micrometer range.

  • Single-shot holography using high-order harmonics
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Modern Optics. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0950-0340 .- 1362-3044. ; 55:16, s. 2723-2730
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work demonstrates single-shot holography with ultrashort XUV pulses. The pulses are generated by high-harmonic generation in an Ar gas cell and focused to produce a strongly divergent reference beam suitable for in-line holography of micrometer size objects. The achieved intensity of the high-order harmonics in the XUV regime is sufficient for single-shot holography with good signal-to-noise ratio. A numerical algorithm is applied to reconstruct real images from the recorded holograms, which also includes an iterative process to reduce the twin-image blurring. Holograms and reconstructed images of microscope tips are presented and a description of the algorithm is given.
