    • The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of a rapidly spreading illness, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), affecting more than seventeen million people around the world. Diagnosis and treatment guidelines for clinicians caring for patients are needed. In the early stage, we have issued "A rapid advice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infected pneumonia (standard version)"; now there are many direct evidences emerged and may change some of previous recommendations and it is ripe for develop an evidence-based guideline. We formed a working group of clinical experts and methodologists. The steering group members proposed 29 questions that are relevant to the management of COVID-19 covering the following areas: chemoprophylaxis, diagnosis, treatments, and discharge management. We searched the literature for direct evidence on the management of COVID-19, and assessed its certainty generated recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Recommendations were either strong or weak, or in the form of ungraded consensus-based statement. Finally, we issued 34 statements. Among them, 6 were strong recommendations for, 14 were weak recommendations for, 3 were weak recommendations against and 11 were ungraded consensus-based statement. They covered topics of chemoprophylaxis (including agents and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) agents), diagnosis (including clinical manifestations, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), respiratory tract specimens, IgM and IgG antibody tests, chest computed tomography, chest x-ray, and CT features of asymptomatic infections), treatments (including lopinavir-ritonavir, umifenovir, favipiravir, interferon, remdesivir, combination of antiviral drugs, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine, interleukin-6 inhibitors, interleukin-1 inhibitors, glucocorticoid, qingfei paidu decoction, lianhua qingwen granules/capsules, convalescent plasma, lung transplantation, invasive or noninvasive ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)), and discharge management (including discharge criteria and management plan in patients whose RT-PCR retesting shows SARS-CoV-2 positive after discharge). We also created two figures of these recommendations for the implementation purpose. We hope these recommendations can help support healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients.

  • Re-positive Cases of Nucleic Acid Tests in Discharged Patients With COVID-19 : A Follow-Up Study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Medicine. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 2296-858X. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The frequent emergence of the re-positive patients with COVID-19 is a potential threat worldwide. This study aimed to describe data from admission to follow-up for patients with COVID-19 and analyze the possible causes for re-positive nucleic acid tests to provide more scientific basis for reducing the numbers of re-positive patients after discharge. Methods: We retrospectively recorded 15 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Xianyang Central Hospital, China. The baseline, exposure histories, clinical syndromes, laboratory characteristics, nucleic acid, and follow-up tests were analyzed, and the radiological characteristics of re-positive patient at different periods were compared. Results: Eight (53.33%) patients had the history of travel to Wuhan, four (26.67%) patients had close contact with confirmed patients, and one (6.67%) patient had close contact with suspected patients. After treatment, all patients had two consecutively negative nucleic acid tests and were discharged from hospital. All patients were followed up for more than 14 days, and the average time from discharge to the first follow-up was 14.67 ± 3.31 days (from 9 to 22 days). Most patients showed no clinical symptoms and negative nucleic acid tests, while one patient had an itchy throat, her CT scan showed a light density shadow in the right lower lobe of the lung, and the nucleic acid was once again positive. The second follow-up of the other 14 patients (except the re-positive one) was conducted 20.80 ± 7.78 days (from 13 to 30 days) after discharge, and all of them had negative nucleic acid tests. The positive patient was immediately readmitted and received a new round of treatment. Her family members and colleagues remained healthy until now. Conclusions: The quality of nucleic acid testing reagents should be enhanced, and the training of nucleic acid sampling operators should be strengthened to reduce the false-negative results in the nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-2; the clinical specimens of throat and nasopharynx swabs can be collected at the same time; IgM- and IgG-specific antibodies of SARS-CoV-2 should be carried out for discharged patients; the radiological characteristics should be evaluated strictly; and the discharge standard can be specified according to the baseline and severity of disease of patients.

  • Gene-educational attainment interactions in a multi-ancestry genome-wide meta-analysis identify novel blood pressure loci
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Molecular Psychiatry. - : Springer Nature. - 1359-4184 .- 1476-5578. ; 26:6, s. 2111-2125
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Educational attainment is widely used as a surrogate for socioeconomic status (SES). Low SES is a risk factor for hypertension and high blood pressure (BP). To identify novel BP loci, we performed multi-ancestry meta-analyses accounting for gene-educational attainment interactions using two variables, “Some College” (yes/no) and “Graduated College” (yes/no). Interactions were evaluated using both a 1 degree of freedom (DF) interaction term and a 2DF joint test of genetic and interaction effects. Analyses were performed for systolic BP, diastolic BP, mean arterial pressure, and pulse pressure. We pursued genome-wide interrogation in Stage 1 studies (N = 117 438) and follow-up on promising variants in Stage 2 studies (N = 293 787) in five ancestry groups. Through combined meta-analyses of Stages 1 and 2, we identified 84 known and 18 novel BP loci at genome-wide significance level (P < 5 × 10-8). Two novel loci were identified based on the 1DF test of interaction with educational attainment, while the remaining 16 loci were identified through the 2DF joint test of genetic and interaction effects. Ten novel loci were identified in individuals of African ancestry. Several novel loci show strong biological plausibility since they involve physiologic systems implicated in BP regulation. They include genes involved in the central nervous system-adrenal signaling axis (ZDHHC17, CADPS, PIK3C2G), vascular structure and function (GNB3, CDON), and renal function (HAS2 and HAS2-AS1, SLIT3). Collectively, these findings suggest a role of educational attainment or SES in further dissection of the genetic architecture of BP.

  • China’s adaptive response to climate change through air-conditioning
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: iScience. - : Elsevier BV. - 2589-0042. ; 26:3, s. 1-19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies have shown that the soaring demand for air conditioners in recent years is closely related to the worsening global warming; however, little evidence has been provided for China. This study uses weekly data of 343 Chinese cities to investigate how air conditioner sales respond to climate variability. We detected a U-shaped relationship between air-conditioning and temperature. An additional day with average temperature above 30°C increases weekly sales by 16.2%. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the adoption of air-conditioning is different for south and north China. By combining our estimates with shared socioeconomic pathway scenarios, we project China’s mid-century air conditioner sales and the resulting electricity demand. Under the fossil-fueled development scenario, air conditioner sales in the Pearl River Delta would rise by 71% (65.7%–87.6%) in summer. On average, the per capita electricity demand for air-conditioning will surge by 28% (23.2%–35.4%) in China by mid-century.

  • Early diagnosis of battery faults through an unsupervised health scoring method for real-world applications
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification. - 2332-7782. ; 10:2, s. 2521-2532
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Battery fault diagnosis is critical to ensure the safe and reliable operation of electric vehicles or energy storage systems. Early diagnosis of battery faults can enable timely maintenance and reduce potential accidents. However, the lead time for detection is still relatively insufficient, and the identification of target vehicle with unidentified fault type has generally been neglected. To fill the gap, an unsupervised health scoring method for early diagnosis of battery faults is proposed in this paper. First, considering the properties of field data, new features and four types of feature sets related to battery health and fault status are derived for each cell. Then, a novel strategy is proposed to transform a typical classification problem into a quantitative scoring problem by performing multiple clustering. To produce ample clustering results, three cluster algorithms based on different principles are used and the features are randomly divided into feature subsets. By coupling temperature information, early determination of thermal runaway faults can be achieved. Finally, the real-world cloud data of three typical accidents are employed for verification, the results indicate that the proposed approach can innovatively achieve the detection of the abnormal cells at the level of days in advance, demonstrating excellent performance.

  • Circulating markers of cellular immune activation in prediagnostic blood sample and lung cancer risk in the Lung Cancer Cohort Consortium (LC3)
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Cancer. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0020-7136 .- 1097-0215. ; 146:9, s. 2394-2405

    • Cell-mediated immune suppression may play an important role in lung carcinogenesis. We investigated the associations for circulating levels of tryptophan, kynurenine, kynurenine:tryptophan ratio (KTR), quinolinic acid (QA) and neopterin as markers of immune regulation and inflammation with lung cancer risk in 5,364 smoking-matched case-control pairs from 20 prospective cohorts included in the international Lung Cancer Cohort Consortium. All biomarkers were quantified by mass spectrometry-based methods in serum/plasma samples collected on average 6 years before lung cancer diagnosis. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for lung cancer associated with individual biomarkers were calculated using conditional logistic regression with adjustment for circulating cotinine. Compared to the lowest quintile, the highest quintiles of kynurenine, KTR, QA and neopterin were associated with a 20-30% higher risk, and tryptophan with a 15% lower risk of lung cancer (all p(trend) < 0.05). The strongest associations were seen for current smokers, where the adjusted ORs (95% CIs) of lung cancer for the highest quintile of KTR, QA and neopterin were 1.42 (1.15-1.75), 1.42 (1.14-1.76) and 1.45 (1.13-1.86), respectively. A stronger association was also seen for KTR and QA with risk of lung squamous cell carcinoma followed by adenocarcinoma, and for lung cancer diagnosed within the first 2 years after blood draw. This study demonstrated that components of the tryptophan-kynurenine pathway with immunomodulatory effects are associated with risk of lung cancer overall, especially for current smokers. Further research is needed to evaluate the role of these biomarkers in lung carcinogenesis and progression.

    • Genetic variants within nearly 1000 loci are known to contribute to modulation of blood lipid levels. However, the biological pathways underlying these associations are frequently unknown, limiting understanding of these findings and hindering downstream translational efforts such as drug target discovery. To expand our understanding of the underlying biological pathways and mechanisms controlling blood lipid levels, we leverage a large multi-ancestry meta-analysis (N=1,654,960) of blood lipids to prioritize putative causal genes for 2286 lipid associations using six gene prediction approaches. Using phenome-wide association (PheWAS) scans, we identify relationships of genetically predicted lipid levels to other diseases and conditions. We confirm known pleiotropic associations with cardiovascular phenotypes and determine novel associations, notably with cholelithiasis risk. We perform sex-stratified GWAS meta-analysis of lipid levels and show that 3-5% of autosomal lipid-associated loci demonstrate sex-biased effects. Finally, we report 21 novel lipid loci identified on the X chromosome. Many of the sex-biased autosomal and X chromosome lipid loci show pleiotropic associations with sex hormones, emphasizing the role of hormone regulation in lipid metabolism.Taken together, our findings provide insights into the biological mechanisms through which associated variants lead to altered lipid levels and potentially cardiovascular disease risk.

  • Ingår i: Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention. - : American Association for Cancer Research. - 1055-9965 .- 1538-7755. ; 29:2, s. 477-486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Risk variants identified so far for colorectal cancer explain only a small proportion of milial risk of this cancer, particularly in Asians. Methods: We performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of colorectal cancer in East Asians, cluding 23,572 colorectal cancer cases and 48,700 controls. To identify novel risk loci, we selected 60 omising risk variants for replication using data from 58,131 colorectal cancer cases and 67,347 controls European descent. To identify additional risk variants in known colorectal cancer loci, we performed nditional analyses in East Asians. Results: An indel variant, rs67052019 at 1p13.3, was found to be associated with colorectal cancer risk P = 3.9 x 10(-8) in Asians (OR per allele deletion = 1.13, 95% confidence interval = 1.08-1.18). This sociation was replicated in European descendants using a variant (rs2938616) in complete linkage sequilibrium with rs67052019 (P = 7.7 x 10(-3)). Of the remaining 59 variants, 12 showed an association P < 0.05 in the European-ancestry study, including rs11108175 and rs9634162 at P < 5 x 10(-8) and o variants with an association near the genome-wide significance level (rs60911071, P = 5.8 x 10(-8); 62558833, P = 7.5 x 10(-8)) in the combined analyses of Asian- and European-ancestry data. In addition, ing data from East Asians, we identified 13 new risk variants at 11 loci reported from previous GWAS.Conclusions: In this large GWAS, we identified three novel risk loci and two highly suggestive loci for lorectal cancer risk and provided evidence for potential roles of multiple genes and pathways in the iology of colorectal cancer. In addition, we showed that additional risk variants exist in many colorectal ncer risk loci identified previously.Impact: Our study provides novel data to improve the understanding of the genetic basis for colorectal ncer risk.

  • Reduced motor cortex GABABR function following chronic alcohol exposure
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Molecular Psychiatry. - : SPRINGERNATURE. - 1359-4184 .- 1476-5578. ; 26:2, s. 383-395
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The GABA(B) receptor (GABA(B)R) agonist baclofen has been used to treat alcohol and several other substance use disorders (AUD/SUD), yet its underlying neural mechanism remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate cortical GABA(B)R dynamics following chronic alcohol exposure. Ex vivo brain slice recordings from mice chronically exposed to alcohol revealed a reduction in GABA(B)R-mediated currents, as well as a decrease of GABA(B1/2)R and G-protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channel 2 (GIRK2) activities in the motor cortex. Moreover, our data indicated that these alterations could be attributed to dephosphorylation at the site of serine 783 (ser-783) in GABA(B2) subunit, which regulates the surface expression of GABA(B)R. Furthermore, a human study using paired-pulse-transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) analysis further demonstrated a reduced cortical inhibition mediated by GABA(B)R in patients with AUD. Our findings provide the first evidence that chronic alcohol exposure is associated with significantly impaired cortical GABA(B)R function. The ability to promote GABA(B)R signaling may account for the therapeutic efficacy of baclofen in AUD.

  • Autonomic ganglionic injection of α-synuclein fibrils as a model of pure autonomic failure α-synucleinopathy
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 11:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • α-Synucleinopathies are characterized by autonomic dysfunction and motor impairments. In the pure autonomic failure (PAF), α-synuclein (α-Syn) pathology is confined within the autonomic nervous system with no motor features, but mouse models recapitulating PAF without motor dysfunction are lacking. Here, we show that in TgM83+/− mice, inoculation of α-Syn preformed fibrils (PFFs) into the stellate and celiac ganglia induces spreading of α-Syn pathology only through the autonomic pathway to both the central nervous system (CNS) and the autonomic innervation of peripheral organs bidirectionally. In parallel, the mice develop autonomic dysfunction, featured by orthostatic hypotension, constipation, hypohidrosis and hyposmia, without motor dysfunction. Thus, we have generated a mouse model of pure autonomic dysfunction caused by α-Syn pathology. This model may help define the mechanistic link between transmission of pathological α-Syn and the cardinal features of autonomic dysfunction in α-synucleinopathy.

  • Ab initio investigation on predissociation of the A2Σ+ state of the SeH radical induced by spin-orbit coupling
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer. - : Elsevier. - 0022-4073 .- 1879-1352. ; 311
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-level ab initio calculations are performed to investigate potential energy curves (PECs) of seven low-lying Λ-S states associated with the two lowest dissociation limits of the SeH radical by utilizing the internally contracted multireference configuration interaction (icMRCI) method in combination with the aug-cc-pwCV5Z Gaussian basis set. The scalar relativistic effect (SR), the electronic core-valence (CV) correction, and Davidson (+Q) modification are included in our calculations. The fourteen Ω states generated from the seven Λ-S states are yielded when the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect is taken into account by using the Breit-Pauli operator. On the ground of the obtained PECs, the spectroscopic constants of the bound Λ-S and Ω states are evaluated, which reproduce pretty well the available experimental and theoretical values. By virtue of SOC matrix elements between the bound A2Σ+ state and repulsive 4Σ–(I), 2Σ–(I), or 4∏(I) states crossing with the A2Σ+ state PEC, the spin-orbit perturbations in the A2Σ+ rovibrational manifold in the crossing region and the A-state predissociation mechanism are analyzed. It is clearly exhibited that the avoided crossing phenomena between electronic states possessing the same Ω quantum number provide obvious spectroscopic effects in the transition dipole moments (TMDs) and Franck-Condon factors (FCFs) of the A2Σ+-X2Π transition. The radiative lifetimes of the A2Σ+ vibrational sublevels are determined. In addition, we finalized our study of the SeH molecule by optimizing its equilibrium ground state geometry in terms of a restricted coupled cluster approach including singles and doubles with perturbative triples account (RCCSD(T) method) plus CV, SR, and SOC corrections with extrapolating to complete basis set (CBS) limit.

  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 26:14, s. 11023-11036
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Owing to the key role of the lead dimer (Pb2) as a heavy element benchmark for the Group IV-A dimers the assignment of its spectroscopic properties and chemical bonding is an important undertaking. To meet this demand, the present work provides comprehensive and detailed information on electronic structure and properties comprising a wide set of Pb2 states. Calculations are performed by a high-level ab initio approach. Firstly, the potential energy curves (PECs) of 19 Λ–S states as well as those of 24 ungerade Ω states are calculated by utilizing the multi-reference configuration interaction plus Davidson correction (MRCI + Q) method taking into account core–valence correlation (CV) and spin–orbit coupling (SOC) effect, where Ω is a quantum number of the total (Λ + S) angular momentum projection. Secondly, interactions between the bound F3Σ−u, 23Σ+u states and repulsive 15Πu state induced by strong SOC are discussed based on the PECs analysis and calculated SOC matrix, which also indicates that the F3Σ−u state is predissociative. Thirdly, based on the calculated electric dipole transition moments and energy gaps between the 0+u(III), F0+u(II), C0+u(I) and X0+g states, the intense absorption bands of Pb2 due to these transitions are interpreted. Our results indicate that the trends in intensity of absorption spectra (F0+u(II), C0+u(I) ← X0+g) in the range of 12 600–13 600 and 22 200–23 800 cm−1 are consistent with the previously observed spectra of Pb2 in the qualitatively similar regions (15 200–16 200 and 19 800–21 800 cm−1). Finally, the calculated intensity of the weak magnetic-dipole transitions from the singlet excited b1Σ+g and a1Δg states to the triplet ground X3Σ−g state and their electric quadrupole components are presented for the Pb2 molecule in terms of SOC perturbations for the calculated Ω states expressed in Λ–S state notation. Based on our theoretical assignment, we predict that the weak emission a1Δg2 → X3Σ−g1 bands could be observed experimentally. The present work provides comprehensive electronic structure information and sheds new light on the absorption and emission spectra of the Pb2 dimer.

    • The ground and excited states of Sn2 are calculated using the multireference configuration interaction method combined with Davidson correction (MRCI+Q). The influence of the spin–orbit coupling (SOC) effect on the electronic structure is also considered by the state interaction method of Breit–Pauli Hamiltonian. In the calculations, the potential energy curves and spectroscopic constants of 23 Λ-S states and 31 Ω states of Sn2 are obtained. The prominent spectral features in the visible region, new constants, and potential energy curves are discussed. The intensity of weak magnetic and quadrupole transitions in the near IR spectra is also calculated. From a computational point of view, we predict that the weak v′(0–2)–v″(0–5) bands of the magnetic b1Σg,0++-X3Σg,1(Ms=±1)– transition may be detected experimentally; the sub-bands (0, 0), (1, 0), and (2, 0) of the a1Δg,2-X3Σg,1(Ms=±1)– transition also may be observed in experiments since they are not overlapped by the strong electric dipole transition in the same IR region. According to the SOC matrix elements and contributions of the 15Πu0+, 15Πu1 (|Σ| = 0), and 15Πu1 (|Σ| = 2) states to the predissociation line width of the 13Σu– -X3Σg1– transition, the broading and other predissociation features of the 13Σu– state are analyzed. From our calculations, it follows that the strong coupling between the bound 13Σu– state and the repulsive 15Πu state causes the predissociation of the 13Σu– state at the vibrational levels v′ ≥ 8. In addition, our results suggest that the previously observed bands of Sn2 in the visible range of 19000–20000 cm–1 should be reassigned into the mixing transitions among the X3Σg,1–-23Σu,0–+ and X3Σg,0+–-23Σu,1+ manifold. The results are expected to provide new comprehensive information for better understanding the spectra and dynamics of the electronic excited states of the Sn2 molecule.

    • Intensity of infrared band transitions from the singlet excited b1 sigma+g and a1 Delta g states to the triplet ground X3 sigma-g state of the Pb2 molecule has been studied utilizing high-level ab initio multi-reference configuration interaction (MRCI) method taking into account core-valence correlation (CV), the Davidson correction (+Q) and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect. Intensity of the magnetic dipole transition b1 sigma+g,0+- X3 sigma-g,1 is calculated accounting the spin (S) and orbital (L) angular momentum. The former is determined by the zero-field splitting of the ground X3 sigma-g multiplet and the SOC-induced mixing coefficient between b1 sigma+g,0+ and X3 sigma-g,0+ states; the latter is determined by the admixtures of the intermediate 3 pi g and 1 pi g states in the framework of SOC perturbation theory. Furthermore, the intensity of magnetic dipole a1 Delta g,2-X3 sigma-g,1 transition only needs to take into account the orbital angular momenta interactions with magnetic wave, which arise from the a1 Delta g-1 pi g and X3 sigma-g-3 pi g magnetic transitions. The weak a, b-X3 sigma-g,1 vibronic bands induced by magnetic dipole transition moments are easily overlapped by the stronger a - A3 pi u,1,2 and b - A3 pi u,1 vibronic bands of electric-dipole nature; therefore, the intensity of related a, b- A bands is also calculated. At the same time, it is concluded that the vibronic progressions (0, 1)-(0 - 12) for the b-X3 sigma-g,1 transition and the (0, 1)-(0 - 11) series for the a-X3 sigma-g,1 intercombination could be observed experimentally. The electro-quadrupole a1 Delta g,2-X3 sigma-g,0+transition can be greatly enhanced, since it "borrows intensity" from the a1 Delta g,2- b1 sigma+g,0+ quadrupole transition. Thus, we calculate, predict, and interpret series of the weak forbidden bands in the Pb2 infrared spectroscopy, which will extend our understanding of SOC effects in the IV series dimers of periodic system.

    • High level ab initio calculations on the electronic states of a silicon dimer (Si2) have been carried out by employing a multi-reference configuration interaction plus Davidson correction (MRCI + Q) approach with the aug-cc-pVQZ basis set. The scalar relativistic correction is taken into consideration by the second-order Douglas–Kroll–Hess approximation. In the present work, the transition properties (oscillator strength, Einstein spontaneous emission coefficient and radiative lifetime) of the singlet–singlet, triplet–triplet, and quintet–quintet transitions of Si2 are discussed. We emphasize the triplet–triplet emission bands H3Σ−u–X3Σ−g, K3Σ−u–X3Σ−g and D3Πu–L3Πg which are dominant for 0–11 (18 822 cm−1), 0–0 (30 672 cm−1), and 0–0 (28 881 cm−1) transitions, respectively. In addition, the strong experimentally observed b1Πu–d1Σ+g band around 4184 cm−1 corresponds to the second 1Σ+g–b1Πu combination in the infrared region. The calculated oscillator strengths of the singlet–singlet transitions (f1Πg–e1Σ−u, 21Πg–b1Πu, b1Πu–d1Σ+g and g1Δu–a1Δg) are in the order of 10−3. From a theoretical point of view, the 0–0 sub-band for the f1Πg–e1Σ−u transition, 0–7 for 21Πg–b1Πu, 0–0 for b1Πu–d1Σ+g and the 0–7 vibronic bands for the g1Δu–a1Δg transition may be observed experimentally. It is expected that the present results could provide theoretical support for a deeper understanding of the experimental Si2 spectra providing further applications in astrophysics.

    • Background: Systemic delivery of anti-tumor therapeutic agents to brain tumors is thwarted by the blood-brain barrier (BBB), an organotypic specialization of brain endothelial cells (ECs). A failure of pharmacological compounds to cross BBB is one culprit for the dismal prognosis of glioblastoma (GBM) patients. Identification of novel vascular targets to overcome the challenges posed by the BBB in tumors for GBM treatment is urgently needed. Methods: Temozolomide (TMZ) delivery was investigated in CT2A and PDGFB-driven RCAS/tv-a orthotopic glioma models. Transcriptome analysis was performed on ECs from murine gliomas. Mfsd2a deficient, Cav1 deficient, and Mfsd2a EC-specific inducible mice were developed to study the underlying molecular mechanisms. Results: We demonstrated that inhibiting Wnt signaling by LGK974 could increase TMZ delivery and sensitize glioma to chemotherapy in both murine glioma models. Transcriptome analysis of ECs from murine gliomas revealed that Wnt signaling inhibition enhanced vascular transcytosis as indicated by the upregulation of PLVAP and downregulation of MFSD2A. Mfsd2a deficiency in mice enhances TMZ delivery in tumors, whereas constitutive expression of Mfsd2a in ECs suppresses the enhanced TMZ delivery induced by Wnt pathway inhibition in murine glioma. In addition, Wnt signaling inhibition enhanced caveolin-1 (Cav1)-positive caveolae-mediated transcytosis in tumor ECs. Moreover, Wnt signaling inhibitor or Mfsd2a deficiency fails to enhance TMZ penetration in tumors from Cav1-deficient mice. Conclusions: These results demonstrated that Wnt signaling regulates MFSD2A-dependent TMZ delivery through a caveolae-mediated EC transcytosis pathway. Our findings identify Wnt signaling as a promising therapeutic target to improve drug delivery for GBM treatment.

  • Financial support for micro and small enterprises : Economic benefit or social responsibility?
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 115, s. 266-271
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regarding the financial support provided to micro and small enterprises (MSEs), deciding whether to prioritize economic benefit or social responsibility is a crucial policy choice, especially in developing countries. This paper establishes a new research framework for density of enterprise output value and wages conditional on loans to balance economic benefit (sales revenue) and social responsibility (employee payroll). Using data on 9125 Chinese enterprises from January 2015 to December 2017, this paper shows that loans have a range effect on sales revenue and employee payroll, which ascends gradually to a plateau and eventually descends. Based on this finding, this paper proposes a reallocation scheme. With total loans unchanged, fixed sales revenue can increase employee payroll by 3.8%. Similarly, fixed employee payroll can increase sales revenue by 5.2%. This study not only provides empirical evidence for financially supporting MSEs, but also provides alternative decision support for policy design.

  • Association of Dietary Fiber and Yogurt Consumption With Lung Cancer Risk : A Pooled Analysis
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: JAMA Oncology. - : American Medical Association. - 2374-2437 .- 2374-2445. ; 6:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Importance: Dietary fiber (the main source of prebiotics) and yogurt (a probiotic food) confer various health benefits via modulating the gut microbiota and metabolic pathways. However, their associations with lung cancer risk have not been well investigated. Objective: To evaluate the individual and joint associations of dietary fiber and yogurt consumption with lung cancer risk and to assess the potential effect modification of the associations by lifestyle and other dietary factors.Design, Setting, and Participants: This pooled analysis included 10 prospective cohorts involving 1 445 850 adults from studies that were conducted in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Data analyses were performed between November 2017 and February 2019. Using harmonized individual participant data, hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals for lung cancer risk associated with dietary fiber and yogurt intakes were estimated for each cohort by Cox regression and pooled using random-effects meta-analysis. Participants who had a history of cancer at enrollment or developed any cancer, died, or were lost to follow-up within 2 years after enrollment were excluded.Exposures: Dietary fiber intake and yogurt consumption measured by validated instruments.Main Outcomes and Measures: Incident lung cancer, subclassified by histologic type (eg, adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and small cell carcinoma). Results: The analytic sample included 627 988 men, with a mean (SD) age of 57.9 (9.0) years, and 817 862 women, with a mean (SD) age of 54.8 (9.7) years. During a median follow-up of 8.6 years, 18 822 incident lung cancer cases were documented. Both fiber and yogurt intakes were inversely associated with lung cancer risk after adjustment for status and pack-years of smoking and other lung cancer risk factors: hazard ratio, 0.83 (95% CI, 0.76-0.91) for the highest vs lowest quintile of fiber intake; and hazard ratio, 0.81 (95% CI, 0.76-0.87) for high vs no yogurt consumption. The fiber or yogurt associations with lung cancer were significant in never smokers and were consistently observed across sex, race/ethnicity, and tumor histologic type. When considered jointly, high yogurt consumption with the highest quintile of fiber intake showed more than 30% reduced risk of lung cancer than nonyogurt consumption with the lowest quintile of fiber intake (hazard ratio, 0.67 [95% CI, 0.61-0.73] in total study populations; hazard ratio 0.69 [95% CI, 0.54-0.89] in never smokers), suggesting potential synergism. Conclusions and Relevance: Dietary fiber and yogurt consumption was associated with reduced risk of lung cancer after adjusting for known risk factors and among never smokers. Our findings suggest a potential protective role of prebiotics and probiotics against lung carcinogenesis.

  • Gram-scale synthesis of carbon quantum dots with a large Stokes shift for the fabrication of eco-friendly and high-efficiency luminescent solar concentrators
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Energy & Environmental Science. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1754-5692 .- 1754-5706. ; 14:1, s. 396-406
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) are large-area sunlight collectors coupled to small area solar cells, for efficient solar-to-electricity conversion. The three key points for the successful market penetration of LSCs are: (i) removal of light losses due to reabsorption during light collection; (ii) high light-to-electrical power conversion efficiency of the final device; (iii) long-term stability of the LSC structure related to the stability of both the matrix and the luminophores. Among various types of fluorophores, carbon quantum dots (C-dots) offer a wide absorption spectrum, high quantum yield, non-toxicity, environmental friendliness, low-cost, and eco-friendly synthetic methods. However, they are characterized by a relatively small Stokes shift, compared to inorganic quantum dots, which limits the highest external optical efficiency that can be obtained for a large-area single-layer LSC (>100 cm2) based on C-dots below 2%. Herein, we report highly efficient large-area LSCs (100–225 cm2) based on colloidal C-dots synthesized via a space-confined vacuum-heating approach. This one batch reaction could produce Gram-scale C-dots with a high quantum yield (QY) (∼65%) using eco-friendly citric acid and urea as precursors. Thanks to their very narrow size distribution, the C-dots produced via the space-confined vacuum-heating approach had a large Stokes shift of 0.53 eV, 50% larger than C-dots synthesized via a standard solvothermal reaction using the same precursors with a similar absorption range. The large-area LSC (15 × 15 × 0.5 cm3) prepared by using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) polymer as a matrix exhibited an external optical efficiency of 2.2% (under natural sun irradiation, 60 mW cm−2, uncharacterized spectrum). After coupling to silicon solar cells, the LSC exhibited a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.13% under natural sunlight illumination (20 mW cm−2, uncharacterized spectrum). These unprecedented results were obtained by completely suppressing the reabsorption losses during light collection, as proved by optical spectroscopy. These findings demonstrate the possibility of obtaining eco-friendly, high-efficiency, large-area LSCs through scalable production techniques, paving the way to the lab-to-fab transition of this kind of devices.
