Based on the range images, a new version of the optical flow constraint equation is derived, which can be used to directly estimate 3D motion parameters without any need of imposing other constraints. Since all calculations with the new constraint equation are based on the range images, Z(x, y, t), the existing techniques and experiences developed and accumulated on the topic of motion from optical flow can be directly applied simply by treating the range images as normal intensity images I(x, y, t). In this reported work, it is demonstrated how to employ the new optical flow constraint equation to recover the 3D motion of a moving head from the sequences of range images, and furthermore, how to use an old trick to handle the case when the optical flow is large. It is shown, in the end, that the performance of the proposed approach is comparable with that of some of the state-of-the-art approaches that use range data to recover 3D motion parameters.

Also provided are numerical examples addressing two generic MIMO channel models based on the Kronecker correlation model with Laplacian angle-of-arrival (AoA) and angle-of-departure (AoD) distributions. In the analysis, spherical vector wave multipole modes of order l are considered, including both TE and TM modes.

The amplifier utilises a matching inductor on the gate yielding a return loss of 20 dB. The design is optimised for maximum gain and the optimum noise figure is extracted by noise modelling and predicted to be close to 1 dB for the intrinsic graphene FET at this frequency. The presented results complement existing graphene FET applications and are promising for future graphene microwave circuits.

The FPAR was operated at an incident power level of 24 dBm for several weeks without performance degradation. Its flicker noise constant was calculated from close-in phase noise data as αR=2.1×10^−36/Hz. The results indicate that IC-compatible S0 FPARs are well suited for integrated microwave oscillators with thermal noise floor (TNF) levels below −175 dBc/Hz.

SAR measurements are carried out with a planar wearable antenna and polymeric ferrite shielding to confirm its competence.

Calibration standards with dielectric permittivities much different from those of the measured samples will produce unreliable results. Different intermediate calibration standards are prepared and measurement results are presented. The aim is to obtain various permittivity values between 10 and 80 by diluting methanol and ethanol with distilled water. This technique can also be used for assessing the purity of alcohols.

The parameters of the I-V and Q-V nonlinear constitutive functions are identified by combining low-and high-frequency large-signal measurements with a numerical optimisation routine. Low-frequency dispersion manifesting in the I-V characteristics is also correctly accounted for. As a case study a gallium nitride HEMT on silicon carbide substrate is considered and very good agreement between measurements and simulation is achieved.

Presented is a simple method of bypassing the explicit modelling of the human kinematics based on a variant of the self-organising map (SOM) algorithm. While the literature contains instances of SOM-type algorithms used for dimension reduction, this reported work deals with the inverse problem: dimension increase, as we are going from 4 to 5 degrees of freedom.

About 20 microwave frequencies centred at 10.77 or 21.62 GHz are experimentally observed. The central frequency and the frequency spacing of the multi-frequency microwave source can be freely tuned by changing the frequency shift of the beating optical waves and the driving frequency on the modulator.

These features make it very suitable for real-time applications, as well as for calculating the linear regression of a large number of samples.

The CwT+ makes effective use of a threshold to accurately enhance bit-tracking and in turn lowers the identification time of the communication response. The threshold limits the bitstream of responding tags in an accurate fashion for simplified computation in the interrogation procedure. Simulation results show the outperformance of the CwT+ compared with earlier protocols.

Presented is a simple technology for wafer-scale integration of tunable VCSELs with low mesa capacitance and high modulation bandwidth. Small signal measurements show a 3dB bandwidth of up to 6 GHz over a tuning range of 18 nm. Digital modulation is demonstrated with error-free data transmission at 5 Gbit/s and eye diagrams at 10 Gbit/s.

The antenna structure consists of a proximity-coupled square ring patch antenna, and a probe fed planar inverted F antenna co-located inside. The operating frequency of the two radiators is designed to be at the same frequency, and a high port isolation below -25 dB is achieved with an extremely narrow edge to edge inter-antenna space of 1 mm (0.008 lambda). The total lateral size of the co-located radiators is only 0.28 lambda x 0.28 lambda, i.e. only about 25% of the size of a half-wavelength dual-port patch antenna. The MIMO structure gives high gains (> 4.0 dB), low correlation (< 0.2), and high diversity gain (about 10 dB).

However, when compared to traditional single-antenna terminals, a comprehensive evaluation of specific absorption rate (SAR) for multi-antenna terminals is impractical. This is because both the power allocation and phase of the electric fields from different antennas are arbitrary in practical MIMO operation, hence requiring exhaustive evaluation over all possible cases. In this context, this paper first proposes time averaged simultaneous peak SAR (TASPS) as an efficient metric to evaluate exposure when more than one antenna is transmitting simultaneously. Then, it is analytically derived that TASPS will be below a given exposure limit, as long as the stand-alone peak SAR for each antenna is smaller than that limit. Thus, SAR evaluation is greatly simplified since only stand-alone SAR needs to be measured. Several examples of dual-antenna mobile handsets are shown to illustrate and validate the analytical result.

It represents a two-port micro-acoustic resonatoremploying Lamb waves in a thin piezoelectric AlNfilm grown ontoa Si carrier substrate with a centre frequency of around 887 MHz.The transfilter has a transformer ratio of 10 and a voltage efficiencyof over 80%. The component has a small size ( < 0.5 mm2) and isshown to sustain power levels of 250 mW. It can be used in avariety of cases where both voltage amplification and frequencyfilter-ing are required. Examples include: charge pumps in RFID tags,energy scavenging, remotely triggered switches, wake-up radios inwireless networks, stand-by units in home electronics etc.

The optically active region consists of 10 layers of p-doped selfassembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) asymmetrically positioned in In0.15Ga0.85As quantum wells (QWs). The dark current is suppressed by an incorporated superlattice (SL) structure composed of 10 pairs of AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure. The very low recorded dark current makes the fabricated p-i-p QDIPs suitable for high-temperature operation. The measured photoresponse reveals broad mid-wave infrared (MWIR) detection up to 200 K.

The capacity is evaluated at 0.825 GHz and 2.35 GHz in an indoor office environment. The results show that adaptive matching enhances capacity by up to 44% and 22% at the low and high frequency bands, respectively, relative to no matching. At the low band, the capacity gain is attributed to both increased received power and decreased channel eigenvalue dispersion, whereas at the high band, the capacity gain is only due to increased power.

The architecture is based on the Winograd Fourier transform algorithm and the complexity is equal to a 7-point DFT in terms of adders/subtractors and multipliers plus only seven multiplexers introduced to enable reconfigurability. The processing element finds potential use in memory-based FFTs, where non-power-of-two sizes are required such as in DMB-T.

The reflective LPG sensor was experimentally fabricated and demonstrated by measuring glycerol/water solutions.

Fabricated using an epitaxial regrowth process, the T-VCSEL is electrically a pnp-type bipolar junction transistor and consists of an undoped AlGaAs/GaAs bottom DBR, an InGaAs triple-quantum-well active layer, an Si/SiO2 dielectric top DBR, and an intracavity contacting scheme with three electrical terminals. The output power is controlled by the base current in combination with the emitter-collector voltage, showing a voltage-controlled operation mode. A low threshold base-current of 0.8 mA and an output power of 1.8 mW have been obtained at room temperature. Continuous-wave operation was performed up to 50 degrees C.

The proposed MIMO antenna system with an overall lateral size of only 0.43 lambda x 0.43 lambda can offer 22.8% bandwidth (1.63-2.05 GHz) and isolation of better than 24 dB. The measured gain is larger than 2.72 dBi over the whole band, and the calculated envelope correlation coefficient is better than 0.01. The radiation patterns and MIMO channel capacity are also measured.
