  • Loess correlations – Between myth and reality
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0031-0182 .- 1872-616X. ; 509, s. 4-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The correlation of loess sequences across global, hemispheric, regional and local scales is one of the most fundamental aspects to loess research. However, despite recent progress in stratigraphic and chronometric methods, the correlation of many loess sequences is often still based on untested assumptions over loess deposition, preservation, soil type and age. As such, the aim of this overview is to provide an adequate framework for evaluation of the accuracy of loess correlations applied on different temporal and spatial scales across Eurasia. This opens up possibilities for detailed temporal and spatial environmental reconstructions across the huge loess provinces of the Eurasia and provides a framework for future extension of this to North America. Additionally, we evaluate the potential development of appropriate sub-millennial scale loess correlations, as well as essentially important chronological approaches for establishing valid correlations between different loess records, such as current improvements in tephrochronology, C-14 and luminescence dating techniques.

  • Collective and noncollective states in (120)Te
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 85:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in (120)Te were populated in the reaction (80)Se((48)Ca, alpha 4n)(120)Te at a beam energy of 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidences were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. The previously known level scheme is extended to higher spin and new interband transitions and side-feeding branches are established. Five highly deformed rotational bands, extending up to almost I = 50, are observed for the first time. The bands are compared with similar structures found recently in neighboring nuclei. The experimental results are interpreted within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. Configuration assignments to several terminating states and to the high-spin bands are discussed.

  • Observation of high-spin bands with large moments of inertia in Xe 124
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813. ; 94:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Xe124 have been populated using the Se80(Ca48,4n) reaction at a beam energy of 207 MeV and high-multiplicity, γ-ray coincidence events were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Six high-spin bands with large moments of inertia, similar to those observed in neighboring nuclei, have been observed. The experimental results are compared with calculations within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky model. It is suggested that the configurations of the bands involve excitations of protons across the Z=50 shell gap coupled to neutrons within the N=50-82 shell or excited across the N=82 shell closure.

  • Revised level structure of Te-120
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 90:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level scheme of the nucleus Te-120, populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48, alpha 4n), was reinvestigated using gamma-ray coincidence data measured with the Gammasphere spectrometer. Previously, five high-spin rotational bands were discovered in this nucleus. The present reinvestigation revealed that the decay of band b1 is more complex than suggested in the earlier work and that it cannot be uniquely determined. Furthermore, a number of new transitions are added to the level scheme. The implications for the spin assignments and excitation energies of the five bands and for comparisons with cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations are discussed.

  • Evidence for noncollective oblate structures at high spin in Cs-123
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 70:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Cs-123 were populated in the Ni-64(Ni-64,p4n) reaction at a beam energy of 265 MeV. Gamma-ray coincidences were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Two additional bands have been placed in the level scheme and the four previously known bands have been extended to higher spin. At the highest spins, two of the bands show irregular level sequences. These structures of noncollective excitations, which compete with collective rotation, are interpreted as band-terminating states. The results are compared to cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations, and configuration assignments to the bands and to the terminating states are discussed.

  • Core excitations beyond maximally aligned configurations in I-123
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 85:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in I-123 have been populated in the Se-80(Ca-48, p4n) I-123 reaction at 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events have been recorded with the Gammasphere spectrometer. The level scheme of I-123 has been extended up to spin I = 63/2. The nucleus undergoes a shape transition from moderately deformed states with collective rotation at low spins to noncollective oblate configurations at higher spins. Maximally aligned terminating states involving all nine particles outside the Sn-114 core and states with one particle antialigned are identified. A large number of weak transitions feed the terminating states. Cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations have been performed to determine possible configurations for the observed energy levels.

  • High-spin rotational bands in I-123
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813. ; 86:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in I-123 were populated in the reaction Se-80(Ca-48,p4n)I-123 at a beam energy of 207 MeV and gamma-ray coincidence events were measured using the Gammasphere spectrometer. Three weakly populated, high-spin rotational bands have been discovered with characteristics similar to those of the long collective bands recently observed in other nuclei of this mass region. Configuration assignments are proposed based on calculations within the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevC.86.067305

  • Disappearance of the N=14 shell gap in the carbon isotopic chain
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 78:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structure of C-17-20(6) nuclei was investigated by means of the in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy technique using fragmentation reactions of radioactive beams. Based on particle-gamma and particle-gamma gamma coincidence data, level schemes are constructed for the neutron-rich C17-20 nuclei. The systematics of the first excited 2(+) states in the carbon isotopes is extended for the first time to A = 20 showing that in contrast to the case of the oxygen isotopes, the N = 14 subshell closure disappears. Experimental results are compared with shell-model calculations. Agreement between them is found only if a reduced neutron-neutron effective interaction is used. Implications of this reduced interaction in some properties of weakly bound neutron-rich Carbon are discussed.

  • Spectroscopy of (26)F
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 85:1, s. 017303-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structure of the weakly bound (26)(9)F(17) odd-odd nucleus, produced from (27,28)Na nuclei, has been investigated at GANIL by means of the in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy technique. A single gamma-line is observed at 657(7) keV in (26)(9)F which has been ascribed to the decay of the excited J = 2(+) state to the J = 1(+) ground state. The possible presence of intruder negative parity states in (26)F is also discussed.

  • Study of drip line nuclei through two-step fragmentation
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 20:1, s. 95-96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have studied the structure of light neutron-rich nuclei around N = 16 by employing the in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy technique using the fragmentation of secondary beams of Ne-25,Ne-26, Na-27,Na-28 and Mg-29,Mg-30 isotopes. This secondary-beam cocktail was obtained by the fragmentation of a 36 S beam at 77.5 MeV.A by the SISSI/GANIL facility. By a second-step fragmentation, we have measured gamma-ray-residue coincidences in C17-20 and O-23,O-24 and described the obtained levels in the framework of the shell model.

  • Excited states in the neutron-rich nucleus F-25
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 89:5, s. 054323-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structure of the nucleus F-25(9) was investigated through in-beam. gamma-ray spectroscopy of the fragmentation of Ne-26 and Na-27,Na-28 ion beams. Based on the particle-gamma and particle-gamma gamma coincidence data, a level scheme was constructed and compared with shell model and coupled-cluster calculations. Some of the observed states were interpreted as quasi-single-particle states built on top of the closed-shell nucleus O-24, while the others were described as states arising from coupling of a single proton to the 2(broken vertical bar) core excitation of O-24.

  • Cell-Permeable Succinate Rescues Mitochondrial Respiration in Cellular Models of Statin Toxicity
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Molecular Sciences. - : MDPI AG. - 1661-6596 .- 1422-0067. ; 22:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Statins are the cornerstone of lipid-lowering therapy. Although generally well tolerated, statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS) represent the main reason for treatment discontinuation. Mitochondrial dysfunction of complex I has been implicated in the pathophysiology of SAMS. The present study proposed to assess the concentration-dependent ex vivo effects of three statins on mito-chondrial respiration in viable human platelets and to investigate whether a cell-permeable prodrug of succinate (complex II substrate) can compensate for statin-induced mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondrial respiration was assessed by high-resolution respirometry in human platelets, acutely exposed to statins in the presence/absence of the prodrug NV118. Statins concentration-dependently inhibited mitochondrial respiration in both intact and permeabilized cells. Further, statins caused an increase in non-ATP generating oxygen consumption (uncoupling), severely limiting the OXPHOS coupling efficiency, a measure of the ATP generating capacity. Cerivastatin (commercially withdrawn due to muscle toxicity) displayed a similar inhibitory capacity compared with the widely prescribed and tolerable atorvastatin, but did not elicit direct complex I inhibition. NV118 increased succinate-supported mitochondrial oxygen consumption in atorvastatin/cerivastatin-exposed platelets leading to normalization of coupled (ATP generating) respiration. The results acquired in isolated human platelets were validated in a limited set of experiments using atorvastatin in HepG2 cells, reinforcing the generalizability of the findings.

  • Newly identified form of phenotypic plasticity of cancer : immunogenic mimicry
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Cancer and Metastasis Reviews. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0167-7659 .- 1573-7233. ; 42:1, s. 323-334
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cancer plasticity is now a recognized new hallmark of cancer which is due to disturbances of cell differentiation programs. It is manifested not only in various forms like the best-known epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) but also in vasculogenic and megakaryocytic mimicries regulated by EMT-specific or less-specific transcription factors such as HIF1a or STAT1/2. Studies in the past decades provided ample data that cancer plasticity can be manifested also in the expression of a vast array of immune cell genes; best-known examples are PDL1/CD274, CD47, or IDO, and we termed it immunogenic mimicry (IGM). However, unlike other types of plasticities which are epigenetically regulated, expression of IGM genes are frequently due to gene amplifications. It is important that the majority of the IGM genes are regulated by interferons (IFNs) suggesting that their protein expressions are regulated by the immune microenvironment. Most of the IGM genes have been shown to be involved in immune escape of cancers broadening the repertoire of these mechanisms and offering novel targets for immunotherapeutics.
