  • Cross-Version Software Defect Prediction Considering Concept Drift and Chronological Splitting
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Symmetry. - : Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI). - 2073-8994. ; 15:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Concept drift (CD) refers to a phenomenon where the data distribution within datasets changes over time, and this can have adverse effects on the performance of prediction models in software engineering (SE), including those used for tasks like cost estimation and defect prediction. Detecting CD in SE datasets is difficult, but important, because it identifies the need for retraining prediction models and in turn improves their performance. If the concept drift is caused by symmetric changes in the data distribution, the model adaptation process might need to account for this symmetry to maintain accurate predictions. This paper explores the impact of CD within the context of cross-version defect prediction (CVDP), aiming to enhance the reliability of prediction performance and to make the data more symmetric. A concept drift detection (CDD) approach is further proposed to identify data distributions that change over software versions. The proposed CDD framework consists of three stages: (i) data pre-processing for CD detection; (ii) notification of CD by triggering one of the three flags (i.e., CD, warning, and control); and (iii) providing guidance on when to update an existing model. Several experiments on 30 versions of seven software projects reveal the value of the proposed CDD. Some of the key findings of the proposed work include: (i) An exponential increase in the error-rate across different software versions is associated with CD. (ii) A moving-window approach to train defect prediction models on chronologically ordered defect data results in better CD detection than using all historical data with a large effect size (Formula presented.).

  • What's in a Grade? Teacher Candidates' Experiences of Grading in Higher Education : A Phenomenographic Study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Education Sciences. - : MDPI AG. - 2227-7102. ; 11:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study explores teacher candidates' experiences of grading in higher education. A phenomenographic approach was adopted and four qualitatively different categories were identified. Grading was experienced as: self-identification, motivation, personal interpretation and academic enculturation. The results indicate that teacher candidates accept existing grading systems but have difficulty interpreting and explaining them, illustrating areas of importance in teacher education and argues that if teacher candidates do not perceive genuine differences in the performance of assessing by grade descriptors, there is a risk that they may develop an insufficient understanding of grading practices.

  • Right Heart Structure, Geometry and Function Assessed by Echocardiography in 6-Year-Old Children Born Extremely Preterm-A Population-Based Cohort Study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Medicine. - : MDPI. - 2077-0383. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Preterm birth has been associated with altered cardiac phenotype in adults. Our aim was to test the hypothesis that children surviving extremely preterm birth have important structural or functional changes of the right heart or pulmonary circulation. We also examined relations between birth size, gestational age, neonatal diagnoses of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with cardiac outcomes. We assessed a population-based cohort of children born in Sweden before 27 weeks of gestation with echocardiography at 6.5 years of age (n = 176). Each preterm child was matched to a healthy control child born at term. Children born preterm had significantly smaller right atria, right ventricles with smaller widths, higher relative wall thickness and higher estimated pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) than controls. In preterm children, PVR and right ventricular myocardial performance index (RVmpi') were significantly higher in those with a PDA as neonates than in those without PDA, but no such associations were found with BPD. In conclusion, children born extremely preterm exhibit higher estimated PVR, altered right heart structure and function compared with children born at term.

  • Survival Outcomes in Patients With Previously Untreated BRAF Wild-Type Advanced Melanoma Treated With Nivolumab Therapy: Three-Year Follow-up of a Randomized Phase 3 Trial.
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: JAMA oncology. - : American Medical Association (AMA). - 2374-2445 .- 2374-2437. ; 5:2, s. 187-194
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This analysis provides long-term follow-up in patients with BRAF wild-type advanced melanoma receiving first-line therapy based on anti-programmed cell death 1 receptor inhibitors. To compare the 3-year survival with nivolumab vs that with dacarbazine in patients with previously untreated BRAF wild-type advanced melanoma. This follow-up of a randomized phase 3 trial analyzed 3-year overall survival data from the randomized, controlled, double-blind CheckMate 066 phase 3 clinical trial. For this ongoing, multicenter academic institution trial, patients were enrolled from January 2013 through February 2014. Eligible patients were 18 years or older with confirmed unresectable previously untreated stage III or IV melanoma and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1 but without a BRAF mutation.Patients were treated until progression or unacceptable toxic events with nivolumab (3 mg/kg every 2 weeks plus dacarbazine-matched placebo every 3 weeks) or dacarbazine (1000 mg/m2 every 3 weeks plus nivolumab-matched placebo every 2 weeks).Overall survival. At minimum follow-ups of 38.4 months among 210 participants in the nivolumab group (median age, 64 years [range, 18-86 years]; 57.6% male) and 38.5 months among 208 participants in the dacarbazine group (median age, 66 years [range, 25-87 years]; 60.1% male), 3-year overall survival rates were 51.2% (95% CI, 44.1%-57.9%) and 21.6% (95% CI, 16.1%-27.6%), respectively. The median overall survival was 37.5 months (95% CI, 25.5 months-not reached) in the nivolumab group and 11.2 months (95% CI, 9.6-13.0 months) in the dacarbazine group (hazard ratio, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.36-0.59; P<.001). Complete and partial responses, respectively, were reported for 19.0% (40 of 210) and 23.8% (50 of 210) of patients in the nivolumab group compared with 1.4% (3 of 208) and 13.0% (27 of 208) of patients in the dacarbazine group. Additional analyses were performed on outcomes with subsequent therapies. Treatment-related grade 3/4 adverse events occurred in 15.0% (31 of 206) of nivolumab-treated patients and in 17.6% (36 of 205) of dacarbazine-treated patients. There were no deaths due to study drug toxic effects.Nivolumab led to improved 3-year overall survival vs dacarbazine in patients with previously untreated BRAF wild-type advanced melanoma.ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT01721772.

  • When strong correlations become weak : Consistent merging of GW and DMFT
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - 1098-0121. ; 94:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The cubic perovskite SrVO3 is generally considered to be a prototype strongly correlated metal with a characteristic three-peak structure of the d-electron spectral function, featuring a renormalized quasiparticle band in between pronounced Hubbard sidebands. Here we show that this interpretation, which has been supported by numerous "ab initio" simulations, has to be reconsidered. Using a fully self-consistent GW + extended dynamical mean-field theory calculation we find that the screening from nonlocal Coulomb interactions substantially reduces the effective local Coulomb repulsion, and at the same time leads to strong plasmonic effects. The resulting effective local interactions are too weak to produce pronounced Hubbard bands in the local spectral function, while prominent plasmon satellites appear at energies which agree with those of the experimentally observed sidebands. Our results demonstrate the important role of nonlocal interactions and dynamical screening in determining the effective interaction strength of correlated compounds.

  • Self-organization of double-chained and pseudodouble-chained surfactants: counterion and geometry effects
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Advances in Colloid and Interface Science. - 1873-3727. ; 100-102, s. 83-104
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Self-organization in aqueous systems based on ionic surfactants, and their mixtures, can be broadly understood by a balance between the packing properties of the surfactants and double-layer electrostatic interactions. While the equilibrium properties of micellar systems have been extensively studied and are understood, those of bilayer systems are less well characterized. Double-chained and pseudodouble-chained (or catanionic) surfactants are among the amphiphiles which typically form bilayer structures, such as lamellar liquid-crystalline phases and vesicles. In the past 10-15 years, an experimental effort has been made to get deeper insight into their aggregation patterns. With the double-chai ed amphiphiles, by changing counterion, adding salt or adding anionic surfactant, there are possibilities to depart from the bilayer aggregate in a controlled manner. This is demonstrated by several studies on the didodecyldimethylammonium bromide surfactant. Mixtures of cationic and anionic surfactants yield the catanionics, surfactants of the swelling type, and also show a rich phase behavior per se. A variety of liquid-crystalline phases and, in dilute regimes, equilibrium vesicles and different micellar shapes are often encountered. Phase diagrams and detailed structural studies, based on several techniques (NMR, microscopy and scattering methods), have been reported, as well as theoretical studies. The main features and conclusions emerging from such investigations are presented. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Peri-implant health
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: J Clin Periodontol. - : Wiley. - 0303-6979. ; 45
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ObjectiveThe aim is to define clinical and histologic characteristics of peri-implant tissues in health and describe the mucosa-implant interface. ImportanceAn understanding of the characteristics of healthy peri-implant tissues facilitates the recognition of disease (i.e., departure from health). FindingsThe healthy peri-implant mucosa is, at the microscopic level, comprised of a core of connective tissue covered by either a keratinized (masticatory mucosa) or non-keratinized epithelium (lining mucosa). The peri-implant mucosa averages about 3 to 4mm high, and presents with an epithelium (about 2mm long) facing the implant surface. Small clusters of inflammatory cells are usually present in the connective tissue lateral to the barrier epithelium. Most of the intrabony part of the implant appears to be in contact with mineralized bone (about 60%), while the remaining portion faces bone marrow, vascular structures, or fibrous tissue. During healing following implant installation, bone modeling occurs that may result in some reduction of the marginal bone level. ConclusionsThe characteristics of the peri-implant tissues in health are properly identified in the literature, including tissue dimensions and composition. Deviation from the features of health may be used by the clinician (and researcher) to identify disease, including peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.

  • Nucleotide exchange factors Fes1 and HspBP1 mimic substrate to release misfolded proteins from Hsp70
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nature Structural & Molecular Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1545-9993 .- 1545-9985. ; 25:1, s. 83-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Protein quality control depends on the tight regulation of interactions between molecular chaperones and polypeptide substrates. Substrate release from the chaperone Hsp70 is triggered by nucleotide-exchange factors (NEFs) that control folding and degradation fates via poorly understood mechanisms. We found that the armadillo-type NEFs budding yeast Fes1 and its human homolog HspBP1 employ flexible N-terminal release domains (RDs) with substrate-mimicking properties to ensure the efficient release of persistent substrates from Hsp70. The RD contacts the substrate-binding domain of the chaperone, competes with peptide substrate for binding and is essential for proper function in yeast and mammalian cells. Thus, the armadillo domain engages Hsp70 to trigger nucleotide exchange, whereas the RD safeguards the release of substrates. Our findings provide fundamental mechanistic insight into the functional specialization of Hsp70 NEFs and have implications for the understanding of proteostasis-related disorders, including Marinesco-Sjögren syndrome.

  • Analysis of Gaseous and Gaseous-Dusty, Premixed Flame Propagation in Obstructed Passages with Tightly Placed Obstacles
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Fluids. - : MDPI. - 2311-5521. ; 5:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A recent predictive scenario of premixed flame propagation in unobstructed passages is extended to account for obstructions that can be encountered in facilities dealing with explosive materials such as in coalmines. Specifically, the theory of globally-spherical, self-accelerating premixed expanding flames and that of flame acceleration in obstructed conduits are combined to form a new analytical formulation. The coalmining configuration is imitated by two-dimensional and cylindrical passages of high aspect ratio, with a comb-shaped array of tightly placed obstacles attached to the walls. It is assumed that the spacing between the obstacles is much less or, at least, does not exceed the obstacle height. The passage has one extreme open end such that a flame is ignited at a closed end and propagates to an exit. The key stages of the flame evolution such as the velocity of the flame front and the run-up distance are scrutinized for variety of the flame and mining parameters. Starting with gaseous methane-air and propane-air flames, the analysis is subsequently extended to gaseous-dusty environments. Specifically, the coal (combustible, i.e., facilitating the fire) and inert (such as sand, moderating the process) dust and their combinations are considered, and the impact of the size and concentration of the dust particles on flame acceleration is quantified. Overall, the influence of both the obstacles and the combustion instability on the fire scenario is substantial, and it gets stronger with the blockage ratio.

  • Towards a social semiotics of rhythm in popular music
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Semiotica. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 0037-1998 .- 1613-3692. ; 197, s. 119-140
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There have been attempts to describe rhythm in technical and musicological terms, yet it has remained one of the most elusive aspects of music for theorists as it is comprised of a range of interacting sounds. This article explores the contribution that could be made by a social semiotic approach to rhythm in popular music. The paper provides an inventory of sound qualities that can be seen as a set of meaning potentials for the creation of certain kinds of "groove" or "movement" in music, since these have different kinds of associations in terms of ideas, moods, and attitudes.

  • Role of the upper airways in patients with chronic cough
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Curr Opin Allergy Clin Immunol.. ; 6:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: Chronic cough can be caused by a number of factors, including infections, rhinosinusitis, asthma and environmental stimuli. This paper reviews recent findings and opinions regarding the role played by the upper airways in chronic cough. RECENT FINDINGS: Chronic cough has a significant impact on quality of life, which is more pronounced in women. In Western countries, the reported occurrence of rhinosinusitis in patient groups with chronic cough ranges from 8% to 81%. Allergic rhinitis is a risk factor for later development of asthma. In children, bronchiectasis is combined with upper airway abnormalities in the majority of cases. Increased expression of the capsaicin receptor subtype named 'transient receptor potential vanilloid-1', which correlates with capsaicin cough response, has been identified in patients with chronic cough. Patients with airway chemical sensitivity and chronic cough as one symptom have augmented capsaicin cough sensitivity that is related to changed levels of nerve growth factor in nasal lavage. SUMMARY: Involvement of the upper airways in chronic cough has been confirmed in several studies. However, there are considerable differences between different health centres in the occurrence of rhinosinusitis as a cause of chronic cough. In patients with chronic cough of various causes, a neurochemical alteration in both the upper and the lower airways appears to have taken place, followed by increased cough sensitivity.

  • Voice change in seasonal allergic rhinitis.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of voice : official journal of the Voice Foundation. - : Elsevier BV. - 0892-1997. ; 22:4, s. 512-5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Voice problems are seldom reported in pollen allergy, although the allergic reaction involves the entire airways. The objective of this study was to investigate voice dysfunction during the pollen season in patients with allergic rhinitis. Thirty patients with verified birch pollen allergy and 30 controls were investigated twice, during the pollen season and outside the pollen season. Both times they scored respiratory and voice symptoms, the latter with the validated questionnaire Voice Handicap Index (VHI), and performed standardized voice recordings. These recordings were analyzed in a controlled manner by a professional voice therapist. During the allergy season, patients reported more respiratory and voice symptoms compared with controls. Those with blinded scored voice dysfunction scored their voice quality during springtime as 31 mm (95% confidence interval [CI] 20-42 mm), compared with 13 mm (95% CI 6-21 mm for participants without voice dysfunction (P<0.01). Furthermore, the group with experienced voice dysfunction scored significantly higher on the VHI in the functional and physical domains and in the total VHI score. Although voice problems during the pollen season are rarely discussed, in allergic rhinitis the larynx may also be involved. These findings support that some patients experience voice change, an experience which can be objectively confirmed.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have fabricated nanometer-sized interdigitated electrode patterns using electron beam lithography and liftoff techniques. The aim of the investigation was to find out whether the dimensions (i.e., the electrode separations) of the pattern would affect the admittance signal of the biomolecules in between the electrodes. Since the admittance signal scales with the geometrical factor A/d, where A is the electrode area and d is the separation, we chose to keep A/d constant when changing the electrode separation in order to eliminate this trivial effect on the admittance signal. An interdigitated electrode structure having an interelectrode spacing in the nanometer regime makes it possible to reach high nonstationary as well as stationary electric field strengths while having a low applied voltage level. Hence, electrode reactions will be as small as possible, while a high signal to noise ratio is obtained. We have been able to experimentally study the response of the impedance behavior to high electric fields exhibiting either a positive or a negative shift of the permittivity as a function of the field being a high alternating-current or a direct-current field, respectively.

  • Differential Effects on ERP Post-Adoption Stages across Scandinavian and Iberian SMEs1
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Global Information Management. - : IGI Global. - 1062-7375 .- 1533-7995. ; 21:3, s. 1-20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enterprise resource planning (ERP) post-adoption stages (use and value) and small and medium enterprises (SME) are of high interest among both academics and practitioners. Grounded in the diffusion of innovation theory to explain ERP use and resource-based view theory to explain ERP value the authors postulate that use is an important link to value. The authors propose and test a model using a unique dataset of 883 SMEs from Scandinavia and Iberia. Whereas for both regions, competitive pressure, efficiency, and best-practices are important factors to use ERP, analytics and collaboration are important factors for ERP value. Whereas complexity and training are not relevant for ERP use among Scandinavian SMEs, they are facilitators for Iberian firms. This is an empirical theoretically grounded research studying ERP use and value among SMEs across two distinct European regions, thus adding an international dimension to the IS literature, as well moving beyond dichotomous “adoption versus non-adoption”.
