  • Welfare and Religion in 21st Century Europe : Volume 1. Configuring the Connections
  • 2010. - 1
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This is an overview of the relationship between welfare regimes and majority churches in eight selected countries in Europe. It shows that there is a connection between the evolution of the respective welfare regime and the religious organisation prevalent in the country studied. It also shows that a changing role of the welfare state and of religious institutions give religious organisations both an innovative role and a voice in the public debate on solidarity values.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study of Christian social practice is a field of academic study that is under development. The field needs to feed from several older fields of study. The aim of this article is to point out the need for integrating gender theory and gender studies into the study of “Diakoniewissenschaft”. This is urgent because social care is a highly gendered area even though gender has hitherto been surprisingly invisible in the academic study of this area. The author argues for the integration of both gender and theology – and the combination of them – into the development of “Diakoniewissenschaft”.

  • Förverkligad katolicitet : Max Thurians syn på vägar till Kyrkans enhet
  • 2014
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Realised Catholicity. Max Thurian’s Understanding of Ways Towards the Unity of the Church. This is a study of the strategies used by Max Thurian (1921–1996) in order to overcomethe division between the Reformed Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. Thurian wasborn in Switzerland, he was ordained a reformed pastor in Geneva 1946 and he became oneof the founders of the well-known ecumenical community in Taizé. He was involved in theEcumenical movement in a number of ways; as a co-worker in the World Council of Churchesand in the Group of Les Dombes. He was invited together with Roger Schütz (the priorof the Community of Taizé) to be an ecumenical observer at the Second Vatican Council. In1987 he became a Roman Catholic, but remained a brother of the Community of Taizé andcontinued to be concerned with the quest for Christian unity. The present dissertation studies how Thurian in his many books and articles seeks to findways to unity between the Reformed Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. Thurian’stexts are analysed from the perspective that in order to unite, the divided churches must beable to mutually recognise catholicity in their respective churches. The dissertation demonstratesthat there is interplay between two strategies used by Thurian in order to bring aboutthis mutual recognition. The first strategy termed Applied Catholicity proving that catholicityis already at hand in the divided churches, while the second termed Created Catholicity aims atbringing about reforms that facilitates a recognition that was not possible Before. The textsby Thurian that are studied are his texts on Eucharist, Baptism, Ministry, The Ministry of theBishop of Rome, and Mariology.
