  • Analysis of core-excited n = 3 configurations in S VI, Cl VII, Ar VIII and Ti XII
  • 1990
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : IOP Publishing. - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; 42:1, s. 44-50
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • By means of the beam-foil method, 74 new lines have been identified as combinations between the core-excited 2p5 3s3p, 3s3d and 3p2 configurations in Na-like sulphur, chlorine, argon and titanium. Relative energies have been determined for most of the quartet levels in S, Cl and Ar with an internal uncertainty of less than 25 cm−1. We also report the first observation in the isoelectronic sequence of Δn = 0, n = 3 transitions from the quasi-metastable 2p5 3p2(3P) 2D5/2 level. The identifications are supported by isoelectronic studies and comparisons with theoretical results obtained in superposition-of-configuration calculations including continuum channels.

  • Anticipation in Swedish families with bipolar affective disorder.
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Journal of Medical Genetics. - 0022-2593 .- 1468-6244. ; 31:9, s. 686-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anticipation describes an inheritance pattern within a pedigree with an increase in disease severity or decrease in age at onset or both in successive generations. The phenomenon of anticipation has recently been shown to be correlated with the expansion of trinucleotide repeat sequences in different disorders. We have studied differences of age at onset and disease severity between two generations in 14 families with unilinear inheritance of bipolar affective disorder (BPAD). There was a significant difference in age at onset (p < 0.008), in episodes per year with (p < 0.006) and without (p < 0.03) lithium treatment, and in total episodes per year (p < 0.002) between generations I and II. Furthermore, there was a highly significant correlation (p < 0.001) in age at onset between generations I and II. No evidence for specific paternal or maternal inheritance was found. We found evidence of anticipation and could rule out ascertainment bias or some other artefact. Anticipation is thus an inheritance pattern in BPAD which suggests that the expansion of trinucleotide repeat sequences is a possible mode of inheritance in BPAD.

  • Parathyroid hormone and enamel formation in rat maxillary incisors.
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian journal of dental research. - 0029-845X. ; 99:2, s. 90-5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parathyroid hormone (PTH) plays an important role in regulating calcium in serum. It is also known to affect bone and dentin formation. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate enamel formation in normal rats receiving added PTH. It is in two parts: a pilot study where a known method was tested, followed by the main study where the rats were given different doses of PTH. The enamel was examined in both studies and in the main study the ameloblasts were also investigated. Contradictory results were seen. In the pilot study, severe enamel aberrations occurred, while no divergence from normal amelogenesis was noted in the main study. A factor causing the disparate results was the use of a hard tissue marker (oxytetracycline) in the pilot study. It can be concluded that injections of PTH in doses that affect bone and dentin did not cause any changes in normal enamel formation.

  • Purification and characterization of a human neutrophil lipocalin (HNL) from the secondary granules of human neutrophils
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation. - 0036-5513 .- 1502-7686. ; 54:5, s. 365-376
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A 45 kDa-protein was purified from the granules of human neutrophils. The protein consists of two apparently identical subunits. The isoelectric point was pH8.40, and the molecular weight 45kDa (unreduced) or 24kDa (reduced). Treatment of the protein with Endoglucosidase F resulted in a reduction in the molecular weight to 20 kDa, indicating the presence of N-linked carbohydrate. The extinction coefficient was E1%lcm = 13.76 at 280nm. The 60 amino acid sequence revealed up to 65% sequence homology with rat α2-microglobulin-related protein, which belongs to the lipocalin family. The protein co-sedimented with secondary (specific) granule marker proteins and correlated to the neutrophil content of Lactoferrin (r = 0.81,p<0.001) and was estimated to be 0.59 fig 10-6 cells. Release studies showed that the neutrophils released 51.4 ± 9.0% of the total cellular content of the protein when they were exposed to serum-opsonized particles, which was much higher than the release of Myeloperoxidase (12.7 ±3.5%) and Lactoferrin (22.9 ± 4.7%). The N-terminal and four tryptic fragment amino acid sequence of the protein was identical with an N-formyl peptide binding 24 kDa protein and gelatinase associated protein of human neutrophils. In conclusion, we have purified and characterized a protein, human neutrophil lipocalin (HNL), from the secondary granules of human neutrophils and shown that it is readily mobilized from the neutrophils upon stimulation.
