  • Synthesis and structural characterization of perovskite type proton conducting BaZr1-xInxO3-delta (0.0 <= x <= 0.75)
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Solid State Ionics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-2738 .- 1872-7689. ; 177:17-18, s. 1395-1403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solid state sintering has been used to prepare the cubic perovskite structured compounds BaZr1-xInxO3-delta (0.0 <= x <= 0.75). Analysis of X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) data reveals that the unit cell parameter, a, increases linearly with an increased Indium concentration. XRPD data was also used to demonstrate the completion of sample hydration, which was reached when the materials showed a set of single-phase Bragg-peaks. Dynamic thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data showed that approx. 89% of the total number of available oxygen vacancies can be filled in BaZr1-xInxO3-delta for x=0.50, and that the maximum water uptake occurs below 300 degrees C. Rietveld analysis of the room temperature neutron powder diffraction (NPD) data confirmed the average cubic symmetry (space group Pm-3m), and an expansion of the unit cell parameter after the hydration reaction. The strong O-H stretch band, 2500-3500 cm(-1), in the infrared absorbance spectrum clearly manifests the presence of protons in the hydrated material. Proton conductivity of hydrated BaZr1-xInxO3-delta, x=0.75 was investigated during heating and cooling cycles under dry argon atmosphere. The total conductivity during the heating cycle was nearly two orders of magnitude greater than that of cooling cycle at 300 degrees C, whilst these values were similar at higher temperatures i.e. T > 600 degrees C.

  • Organisering kring hot och risk
  • 2007

  • Location of deuteron sites in the proton conducting perovskite BaZr0.50In0.50O3-y
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-8388. ; 450:1-2, s. 103-110
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-resolution neutron powder diffraction data have been collected on deuterated and dried samples of the perovskite BaZr0.5In0.5O2.75 at 5 K and room temperature, respectively. Inspection of Fourier nuclear density maps for the deuterated phase have allowed the deuteron position to be refined on a 12h (1/2, y, 0) crystallographic site, with y = 0.217(4) yielding a chemically reasonable O-D distance of 0.92(2) angstrom. Evidence for anisotropy of the deuteron position is also found consistent with a 24k crystallographic site (0.56, 0.21, 0) indicative of displacements of the ion towards neighbouring oxygen ions. The presence of static oxygen disorder in both the dried and deuterated samples is apparent from the structural analyses. Raman spectra confirm short range deviations from cubic symmetry for both dried and hydrated samples.

  • Characterization of T-cell reactive epitopes in glycoprotein G of herpes simplex virus type 2 using synthetic peptides.
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Archives of virology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0304-8608 .- 1432-8798. ; 150:7, s. 1393-406
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have previously shown that the CD4+ T-cell response to herpes simplex virus type 2 glycoprotein G-2 is type-specific and can thus be used to evaluate herpes simplex virus type 2-specific T-cell responses in individuals with a concomitant herpes simplex virus type 1 infection. In this study we have followed the glycoprotein G-2-specific T-cell responses over time, and also tried to identify T-cell epitopes in the membrane bound portion and the secreted portion of glycoprotein G-2 using synthetic peptides spanning the whole amino acid sequence of glycoprotein G-2. We found that the magnitude of the glycoprotein G-2-specific response varied considerably in infected individuals over time, even though all patients responded to at least one of the two glycoproteins at all time-points examined. We could also document strong T-cell responses to synthetic peptides from the secreted glycoprotein G-2 but only low responses to synthetic peptides corresponding to sequences from the heavily glycosylated membrane-bound glycoprotein G-2. We were able to map an immunogenic region (amino acid 31-125) within the secreted glycoprotein G-2. This region of the glycoprotein induced proliferative responses in 47% of the herpes simplex virus type 2-infected individuals. However, we were not able to identify any universal T-cell epitope.

  • Formalizing operations intent and effects for network-centric applications
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 42nd Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, HICSS. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9780769534503
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A Network-Centric approach enables systems to be interconnected in a dynamic and flexible architecture to support multi-lateral, civilian and military missions. Constantly changing environments require commanders to plan for more flexible missions that allow organizations from various nations and agencies to join or separate from the teams performing the missions, depending on the situation. The uncertainty inherent in an actual mission, and the variety of potential organizations that support the mission after it is underway, makes Command Intent (CI) a critical concept for the mission team. Both humans and computerized decision support services need to have the ability to communicate and interpret a shared CI. This paper presents the Operations Intent and Effects Model (OIEM) - a model that relates CI to Effects, and supports both traditional military planning and Effects Based Operation. In the provided example the suggested Command and Control Language is used to express Operations Intent and Effects. © 2009 IEEE.

  • Machine Interpretable Representation of Commander's Intent
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 13th International Command and Control Research and Technology Symposium (13th ICCRTS).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Network-Centric approach envisioned in the Global Information Grid enables the interconnection of systems in a dynamic and flexible architecture to support multi-lateral, civilian and military missions. Constantly changing environments require commanders to plan for missions that allow organizations from various nations and agencies to join or separate from the teams performing the missions, depending on the situation, as missions unfold. The uncertainty within an actual mission, and the variety of potential organizations that support the mission after it is underway, makes Command Intent (CI) a critical concept for the mission team. With new and innovative information technologies, CI can now be made available to the team of organizations in a coalition environment. Using a flexible and linguistically based approach for representing CI allows Intent to be interpreted and processed by all participants – both humans and machines. CI representations need to be able to express mission team’s purpose, the anticipated End-State of the mission and desired key tasks. In this work, the expression of CI is developed to enable the structure and dynamics of collaboration support.

  • Vanishing Magnetic Interactions in Ferromagnetic Thin Films
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 94:21, s. 217202-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have used element-specific hysteresis measurements, based on the x-ray magnetic circular dichroism technique, to investigate magnetic trilayer structures composed of Fe and Ni layers. Within a critical regime we have discovered a class of structures in which the exchange interaction, the mechanism responsible for the macroscopic magnetism, can become vanishingly small. The experimental observations are supported by first principles theory and are explained as arising from a cancellation of several competing magnetic interactions. Hence, we have discovered a system with a novel exchange interaction between magnetic layers in direct contact that replaces the conventional exchange interaction in ferromagnets.

  • Quasielastic neutron scattering of hydrated BaZr0.90A0.10O2.95 (A = Y and Sc)
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Solid State Ionics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-2738. ; 180:1, s. 22-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Proton motions in hydrated proton conducting perovskites BaZr 0.90 A 0.10 O 2.95 (A = Y and Sc) have been investigated using quasielastic neutron scattering. The results reveal a localized motion on the ps time scale and with an activation energy of ~ 10-30 meV, in both materials. The temperature dependence of the total mean square displacement of the protons shows an onset of this motion at a temperature of about 300 K. The low activation energy, much lower than the activation energy for the macroscopic proton conductivity, suggests that this motion is not the rate-limiting process for the long-range proton diffusion, i.e. it is not linked to the two materials significantly different proton conductivities. In fact, a comparison of the QENS results with density functional theory calculations indicates that for both materials the observed motion may be ascribed to intra-octahedral proton transfers occurring close to a dopant atom. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. • Vibrational Properties of Protons in Hydrated BaInxZr1-xO3-x/2
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B - Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969. ; 72, s. 1-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the local proton dynamics in the proton conducting hydrated perovskite system BaInxZr1-xO3-x/2 (x=0.25-0.75) using infrared spectroscopy and first-principles calculations. We show that oxygen vacancies and dopant atoms in the vicinity of the proton tilt the proton toward a neighboring oxygen creating strongly hydrogen-bonded configurations. This is manifested as a strong redshift of the O-H stretch band in the infrared absorption spectrum. We also find considerable fluctuations of the nearest and next-nearest oxygen-proton distances with time, resulting in additional spectral broadening. By comparing the frequencies of computed O-H stretch modes we can relate specific local configurations to different parts of the broad O-H stretch band. Even though hydrogen-bonded configurations favor proton transfer they hinder the long-range migration by decreasing the reorientational rate. Thus, in order to optimize the proton mobility it is important to avoid extreme configurations caused by either oxygen vacancies or dopant atoms in the perovskite structure.

  • Anisotropy in the electronic structure of V2GeC investigated by soft x-ray emission spectroscopy and first-principles theory
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 78:035117
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Theanisotropy of the electronic structure of ternary nanolaminate V2GeC isinvestigated by bulk-sensitive soft x-ray emission spectroscopy. The measured polarization-dependentemission spectra of V L2,3, C K, Ge M1, and Ge M2,3 in V2GeCare compared with those from monocarbide VC and pure Ge.The experimental emission spectra are interpreted with calculated spectra usingab initio density-functional theory including dipole transition matrix elements. Differenttypes of covalent chemical bond regions are revealed: V 3d-C 2p bondingat −3.8  eV, Ge 4p-C 2p bonding at −6  eV, and Ge 4p-C 2s interaction mediatedvia the V 3d orbitals at −11  eV below the Fermi level. We find that the anisotropic effects are high for the4p valence states and the shallow 3d core levels ofGe, while relatively small anisotropy is detected for the V 3dstates. The macroscopic properties of the V2GeC nanolaminate result fromthe chemical bonds with the anisotropic pattern as shown inthis work.

  • A 3'-untranslated region polymorphism in the TBX21 gene encoding T-bet is a risk factor for genital herpes simplex virus type 2 infection in humans.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: The Journal of general virology. - : Microbiology Society. - 0022-1317 .- 1465-2099. ; 89:Pt 9, s. 2262-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It was recently shown that the transcription factor T-bet is crucial for adequate innate and acquired immune responses to genital herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection in mice. To test the possible genetic influence of variations in the TBX21 gene encoding T-bet on susceptibility to infection, this study evaluated the frequencies of five different single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the human TBX21 gene in 159 HSV-2-infected individuals and compared them with those in 186 healthy HSV-2-seronegative controls. The data showed that one variation (rs17244587) in the 3'-untranslated region of TBX21 was strongly associated with the incidence of genital HSV-2 infection. The frequency of the A allele at this position was 0.19 in the group of HSV-2-infected individuals compared with 0.05 in the group of uninfected controls (P=9.3x10(-8)). Furthermore, a homozygous AA genotype was found only among HSV-2-infected individuals and not in seronegative controls. These results indicate that the host genetic background may affect susceptibility to HSV-2 infection in humans, with TBX21 as a strong candidate gene.
