  • Hyperon Structure and CP tests at BESIII
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: XVIII Workshop on High Energy Spin Physics "DSPIN-2019". - : IOP Publishing.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hyperons are a powerful diagnostic tool that can shed light on some of the most intriguing questions in contemporary physics. Electromagnetic form factors (EMFFs) are currently the best way to study hyperon structure. In the time-like region the EMFFs can be complex with a relative phase. A non-zero phase polarizes the final state even when the initial state is unpolarized. A dedicated data sample collected by the BESIII experiment allowed for a first complete reconstruction of Λ in the time-like region. The ratio, R and relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factor, ΔΦ are measured to be 0.96±0.14(stat)±0.002(syst) and 37°±12°(stat)±6°(syst), respectively. In addition, the BESIII experiment has collected the world's largest J/ψ data sample. Due to symmetric excellent detector conditions and low hadronic background, the experiment offers a clean environment for CP-violation tests using . That hyperons can be polarized allows for a simultaneous measurement of angular distributions of hyperons and antihyperons and to test CP symmetry directly. This has been done for the process recently measured by the BESIII experiment. The experimental results showed that the asymmetry decay parameter α(Λ → ππ−) = +0.750±0.009±0.004, is nearly twenty percent larger compared to the old PDG tabulated value. The test on CP symmetry, is the most sensitive test for Λ CP-violation. Preliminary results are presented for the process . The asymmetry decay parameter and −0.015 ± 0.037 ± 0.008 are both measured for the first time.

  • Peer support for the maintenance of physical activity and health in cancer survivors : the PEER trial - a study protocol of a randomised controlled trial.
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: BMC Cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2407. ; 19:1, s. 656-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Despite an overwhelming body of evidence showing the benefits of physical activity (PA) and exercise for cancer survivors, few survivors meet the exercise oncology guidelines. Moreover, initiating, let alone maintaining exercise programs with cancer survivors continues to have limited success. The aim of this trial is to evaluate the influence of peer support on moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) and various markers of health 12 months following a brief supervised exercise intervention in cancer survivors.METHODS: Men and women previously diagnosed with histologically-confirmed breast, colorectal or prostate cancer (n = 226), who are >1-month post-treatment, will be invited to participate in this trial. Once enrolled, participants will complete 4 weeks (12 sessions) of supervised high intensity interval training (HIIT). On completion of the supervised phase, both groups will be provided with written recommendations and verbally encouraged to achieve three HIIT sessions per week, or equivalent exercise that meets the exercise oncology guidelines. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive 12 months of peer support, or no peer support (control). Primary and secondary outcomes will be assessed at baseline, after the 4-week supervised HIIT phase and at 3-, 6- and 12-months. Primary outcomes will include accelerometry-derived MVPA and prescribed HIIT session adherence; whilst secondary outcomes will include cardiorespiratory fitness ([Formula: see text]), body composition, quality of life and select cytokines, myokines and inflammatory markers. Random effects mixed modelling will be used to compare mean changes in outcomes between groups at each time point. A group x time interaction will be used to formally test for differences between groups (alpha =0.05); utilising intention-to-treat analyses.DISCUSSION: If successful, peer support may be proposed, adopted and implemented as a strategy to encourage cancer survivors to maintain exercise beyond the duration of a short-term, supervised intervention. A peer support-exercise model has the long-term potential to reduce comorbidities, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and significantly reduce the burden of disease in cancer survivors.ETHICS: Human Research Ethics Committee of Bellberry Ltd. • Cross section ratio and angular distributions of the reaction p + d -> He-3 + eta at 48.8MeV and 59.8MeV excess energy
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 50:6, s. 100-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present new data for angular distributions and on the cross section ratio of the p+d -> He-3+eta reaction at excess energies of Q - 48.8MeV and Q - 59.8 MeV. The data have been obtained at the WASA-at-COSY experiment (Forschungszentrum Julich) using a proton beam and a deuterium pellet target. While the shape of obtained angular distributions show only a slow variation with the energy, the new results indicate a distinct and unexpected total cross section fluctuation between Q = 20MeV and Q = 60 MeV, which might indicate the variation of the production mechanism within this energy interval.

  • Examination of the production of an isotensor dibaryon in the pp -> pp pi(+)pi(-) reaction
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 99:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The quasifree pp -> pp pi(+)pi(-) reaction has been measured by means of pd collisions at T-p = 1.2 GeV using the WASA detector setup at COSY enabling exclusive and kinematically complete measurements. Total and differential cross sections have been extracted for the energy region T-p = 1.08-1.36 GeV (root s = 2.35-2.46 GeV) covering thus the regions of N* (1440 ) and Delta(1232)Delta(1232) resonance excitations. Calculations describing these excitations by t-channel meson exchange as well as isospin relations based on the pp -> pp pi(0)pi(0) data underpredict substantially the measured total cross section. The calculations are also at variance with specific experimental differential cross sections. An isotensor Delta N dibaryon resonance with I(J(P)) = 2(1(+) ) produced associatedly with a pion is able to overcome these deficiencies. Such a dibaryon was predicted by Dyson and Xuong [Phys. Rev. Lett. 13, 815 (1964)] and more recently calculated by A. Gal and H. Garcilazo [Nucl. Phys. A 928, 73 (2014)].

  • Lambda hyperon spin polarization and CP tests at BESIII
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: MESON 2018 - 15th International Workshop on Meson Physics. - : EDP Sciences.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In these proceedings two preliminary results from the BESIII collaboration on polarized Lambda and (Lambda) over bar are reported. Both results are first observations and concern the resonant and non-resonant processes e(-)e(+) -> J/psi -> Lambda(Lambda) over bar and e(-)e(+) -> gamma* -> Lambda Lambda at root s = 2.396 GeV, respectively. For J/psi -> Lambda Lambda the relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors, Delta Phi, has for the first time been determined, Delta Phi = 42.4(6)(stat) (5)(stat degrees). That Delta Phi not equal 0 allows for a simultaneous measurement also of the asymmetry decay parameters Lambda -> p pi(-) (alpha_), (Lambda) over bar -> (p) over bar pi(+) (alpha(+)) and (Lambda) over bar -> (n) over bar pi(0) ((alpha) over bar (0)). The measured value of alpha_ = 0.750 +/- 0.009 +/- 0.004 differs by 17(3)% from the PDG value. The simultaneous measurement for the asymmetry parameters allows for the most precise test of CP violation conducted for A decays, A(cp) = - 0.006(12)(stat) (7)(syst). The reaction e(-)e(+) -> Lambda(Lambda) over bar at root s = 2.396 GeV is the first complete measurement of the time-like electric (G(E)) and magnetic (G(M)) form factor of any baryon as also the ratio R = vertical bar(GE)/(G(M))vertical bar and Delta Phi have been determined: R = 0.96(14)(12) and Delta Phi = 37(12)(stat) (6)(stat)degrees. The obtained cross-section and effective form factor are sigma = 119.0(53)(stat)(51)(syst) pb and vertical bar G vertical bar = 0.123 (3)(stat) (3)(syst), respectively.

  • Measurement of the ω → π+π−π0 Dalitz plot distribution : The WASA-at-COSY Collaboration
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 770, s. 418-425
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using the production reactions pd -> He-3 omega and pp -> pp omega, the Dalitz plot distribution for the omega -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0)decay is studied with the WASA detector at COSY, based on a combined data sample of (4.408 +/- 0.042) x 10(4) events. The Dalitz plot density is parametrised by a product of the P-wave phase space and a polynomial expansion in the normalised polar Dalitz plot variables Z and phi. For the first time, a deviation from pure P-wave phase space is observed with a significance of 4.1 sigma. The deviation is parametrised by a linear term 1+2 alpha Z, with alpha determined to be +0.147 +/- 0.036, consistent with the expectations of rho-meson-type final-state interactions of the P-wave pion pairs. • Abashian-Booth-Crowe Effect in Basic Double-Pionic Fusion : A New Resonance?
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 106:24, s. 242302-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on an exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurement of the basic double-pionic fusion reaction pn -> d pi(0)pi(0) over the full energy region of the ABC effect, a pronounced low-mass enhancement in the pi pi-invariant mass spectrum. The measurements, which cover also the transition region to the conventional t- channel Delta Delta process, were performed with the upgraded WASA detector setup at COSY. The data reveal the Abashian-Booth-Crowe effect to be uniquely correlated with a Lorentzian energy dependence in the integral cross section. The observables are consistent with a narrow resonance with m = 2.37 GeV, Gamma approximate to 70 MeV and I(J(P)) = 0(3(+)) in both pn and Delta Delta systems. Necessary further tests of the resonance interpretation are discussed.

  • Backward single-pion production in the pd -> He-3 pi(0)reaction with WASA-at-COSY
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : SPRINGER. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 54:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New data on the production of single neutral pions in the pd -> He-3 pi(0) reaction are presented. For fifteen proton beam momenta between p(p) = 1.60GeV/c and p(p) = 1.74 GeV/c, differential cross sections are determined over a large fraction of the backward hemisphere. Since the only previous systematic measurements of single-pion production at these energies were made in collinear kinematics, the present work constitutes a significant extension of the current knowledge on this reaction. Even this far above the production threshold, significant changes are found in the behaviour of the angular distributions over small intervals in beam momentum.

  • Charge symmetry breaking in dd -> He-4 pi(0) with WASA-at-COSY
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 739, s. 44-49
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Charge symmetry breaking (CSB) observables are a suitable experimental tool to examine effects induced by quark masses on the nuclear level. Previous high precision data from TRIUMF and IUCF are currently used to develop a consistent description of CSB within the framework of chiral perturbation theory. In this work the experimental studies on the reaction dd -> He-4 pi(0) have been extended towards higher excess energies in order to provide information on the contribution of p-waves in the final state. For this, an exclusive measurement has been carried out at a beam momentum of p(d) = 1.2GeV/c using the WASA-at-COSY facility. The total cross section amounts to sigma(tot) =(118 +/- 18(stat) +/- 13(sys) +/- 8(ext)) p band first data on the differential cross section are consistent with s-wave pion production.

  • CP symmetry tests in the cascade-anticascade decay of charmonium
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 100:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We analyze joint angular distributions of a charmonium decay to the Xi(Xi) over bar pair using the Xi -> Lambda pi -> p pi(-) pi weak decay chain for the cascade and the charge conjugated mode for the anticascade. The decays allow a direct comparison of the baryon and antibaryon decay properties and a sensitive test of CP symmetry in the strange baryon sector. We show that all involved decay parameters can be determined separately in vector and (pseudo)scalar charmonia decays into Xi(Xi) over bar due to the spin correlations between the weak decay chains. Contrary to the recently measured ethorne e(+)e(-) -> J/psi -> Lambda(Lambda) over bar process, the transverse polarization of the cascade is not needed and has almost no impact on the uncertainties of the decay parameters.

  • Isoscalar single-pion production in the region of Roper and d*(2380) resonances
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 774, s. 599-607
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Exclusive measurements of the quasi-free pn -> pp pi(-) and pp -> pp pi(0) reactions have been performed by means of pd collisions at T-p= 1.2 GeV using the WASA detector setup at COSY. Total and differential cross sections have been obtained covering the energy region T-p= 0.95-1.3 GeV (root s = 2.3-2.46 GeV), which includes the regions of triangle(1232), N*(1440) and d*(2380) resonance excitations. From these measurements the isoscalar single-pion production has been extracted, for which data existed so far only below T-p = 1 GeV. We observe a substantial increase of this cross section around 1 GeV, which can be related to the Roper resonance N*(1440), the strength of which shows up isolated from the triangle resonance in the isoscalar (N pi)(I=0) invariant-mass spectrum. No evidence for a decay of the dibaryon resonance d*(2380) into the isoscalar (NN pi)(I=0) channel is found. An upper limit of 180 mu b (90% CL.) corresponding to a branching ratio of 9% has been deduced.

    • We report on a high-statistics measurement of the most basic double-pionic fusion reaction over the energy region of the d (*)(2380) resonance by use of a polarized deuteron beam and observing the double fusion reaction in the quasifree scattering mode. The measurements were performed with the WASA detector setup at COSY. The data reveal substantial analyzing powers and confirm conclusions about the d(*) resonance obtained from unpolarized measurements. We also confirm the previous unpolarized data obtained under complementary kinematic conditions.

  • Studies of the Decay η→π+π-π0 with WASA-at-COSY
  • 2012
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In 2008 a large statistics sample of approximately 1·107 η-decays has been collected with the WASA detector at COSY using the pd→3Heη reaction at the beam kinetic energy of 1 GeV. These data are being used to study the not so rare η decays involving charged pions, like η→π+π-π0. This decay proceeds mainly via a strong isospin violating contribution, where the decay width is proportional to the light quark mass difference squared, (md-mu)2. In addition this decay can be used to search for C-violating effects. The analysis is presented and the Dalitz plot parameters with statistical and systematical uncertainties are determined from a sample of 1.33·105 η→π+π-π0 events in the Dalitz plot. The asymmetry parameters with statistical uncertainties are presented which show no evidence of C-violation.

  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Substance Use. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1465-9891 .- 1475-9942. ; 27:5, s. 475-481
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES This study aimed to measure the extent to which risky drinkers identify themselves as a heavy/binge drinker and to examine if risky drinkers who identify themselves as a heavy/binge drinker experience less negative drinking-related consequences than those who do not classify themselves as a heavy/binge drinker.METHODS Participants, who met our criterion for heavy and/or binge drinking, were asked about their drinking patterns and to describe themselves as a non-, ex-, occasional, light, social, heavy or binge drinker. Self-identified and researcher-defined (based on participants' past 12 months consumption) drinker types were compared among 4,562 participants (74% males, mean age of 43.4).RESULTS Over half of the researcher-defined binge and heavy drinkers classified themselves as social drinkers. Researcher-defined binge and heavy drinkers who classified themselves accurately experienced more drinking-related harms than those who classified themselves as a social drinker.CONCLUSIONS This study found that rather than using consumption-based definitions, drinkers may classify their drinking based on harms experienced, rather than their risk of harm. Health promotion campaigns aiming to prevent harms in risky drinkers should be aware that drinkers who would be considered at risk may not see themselves that way until they have experienced harm from their drinking.

  • Variations in knowledge, awareness and treatment of hypertension and stroke risk by country income level
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Heart. - : BMJ. - 1355-6037 .- 1468-201X. ; 107:4, s. 282-289
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective Hypertension is the most important modifiable risk factor for stroke globally. We hypothesised that country-income level variations in knowledge, detection and treatment of hypertension may contribute to variations in the association of blood pressure with stroke. Methods We undertook a standardised case-control study in 32 countries (INTERSTROKE). Cases were patients with acute first stroke (n=13 462) who were matched by age, sex and site to controls (n=13 483). We evaluated the associations of knowledge, awareness and treatment of hypertension with risk of stroke and its subtypes and whether this varied by gross national income (GNI) of country. We estimated OR and population attributable risk (PAR) associated with treated and untreated hypertension. Results Hypertension was associated with a graded increase in OR by reducing GNI, ranging from OR 1.92 (99% CI 1.48 to 2.49) to OR 3.27 (2.72 to 3.93) for highest to lowest country-level GNI (p-heterogeneity<0.0001). Untreated hypertension was associated with a higher OR for stroke (OR 5.25; 4.53 to 6.10) than treated hypertension (OR 2.60; 2.32 to 2.91) and younger age of first stroke (61.4 vs 65.4 years; p<0.01). Untreated hypertension was associated with a greater risk of intracerebral haemorrhage (OR 6.95; 5.61 to 8.60) than ischaemic stroke (OR 4.76; 3.99 to 5.68). The PAR associated with untreated hypertension was higher in lower-income regions, PAR 36.3%, 26.3%, 19.8% to 10.4% by increasing GNI of countries. Lifetime non-measurement of blood pressure was associated with stroke (OR 1.80; 1.32 to 2.46). Conclusions Deficits in knowledge, detection and treatment of hypertension contribute to higher risk of stroke, younger age of onset and larger proportion of intracerebral haemorrhage in lower-income countries.

  • Morality and Progress : IR narratives on international revisionism and the status quo
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Cambridge Review of International Affairs. - : Routledge. - 0955-7571 .- 1474-449X. ; 32:4, s. 407-428
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Scholars debate the ambitions and policies of today’s ‘rising powers’ and the extent to which they are revising or upholding the international status quo. While elements of the relevant literature provide valuable insight, this article argues that the concepts of revisionism and the status quo within mainstream International Relations (IR) have always constituted deeply rooted, autobiographical narratives of a traditionally Western-dominated discipline. As ‘ordering narratives’ of morality and progress, they constrain and organize debate so that revisionism is typically conceived not merely as disruption, but as disruption from the non-West amidst a fundamentally moral Western order that represents civilizational progress. This often makes them inherently problematic and unreliable descriptors of the actors and behaviours they are designed to explain. After exploring the formations and development of these concepts throughout the IR tradition, the analysis is directed towards narratives around the contemporary ‘rise’ of China. Both scholarly and wider political narratives typically tell the story of revisionist challenges China presents to a US/Western-led status quo, promoting unduly binary divisions between the West and non-West, and tensions and suspicions in the international realm. The aim must be to develop a new language and logic that recognize the contingent, autobiographical nature of ‘revisionist’ and ‘status quo’ actors and behaviours.
