  • Attraction of Male Pine Sawflies, Diprion jingyuanensis, to Synthetic Pheromone Candidates: Synergism between Two Stereoisomers
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Forests. - : MDPI. - 1999-4907. ; 14:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pine sawfly Diprion jingyuanensis Xiao and Zhang (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) is a serious pest of Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. in the Shanxi, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia provinces in P. R. China. The sex pheromone of D. jingyuanensis was shown to be the propionate ester of 3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol. Virgin females contained an approximate 1:3 blend of the pheromone precursors erythro-(2S,3S,7R/S and 2R,3R,7R/S)-3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol and threo-(2S,3R,7R/S and 2R,3S,7R/S)-3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol, but the exact stereoisomers were not determined. Males responded the strongest to the propionate ester of the two threo-isomers, (2S,3R,7R) and (2S,3R,7S), in electroantennogram (EAG) recordings, followed by a significant EAG response to the (2S,3R,7R) propionate of diprionol (pheromone component of D. similis), whereas the remaining two isomers (2S,3S,7S and 2S,3S,7R) of the propionate ester of 3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol and the acetate of the (2S,3R,7R) isomer (one of the two pheromone components of D. pini) did not elicit any significant increase in antennal response. In the field, the strongly EAG-active (2S,3R,7R)-isomer alone was only weakly (but significantly) attractive to D. jingyuanensis males at 100 & mu;g, while the equally EAG- active (2S,3R,7S)-isomer alone at the same loading was 8-14 times more attractive than was the (2S,3R,7R)-isomer alone. Traps baited with the same amounts of the two threo-isomers ((2S,3R,7R) and (2S,3R,7S), 100 & mu;g + 100 & mu;g) caught significantly more males than did traps baited with other isomers, either of the two isomers alone or other proportions of the two isomers. Thus, the (2S,3R,7S)-isomer is considered as a strong and essential sex-attractant component for D. jingyuanensis males, whereas the (2S,3R,7R)-isomer is a weak but synergistic sex-attractant. This is one of the few examples of a pine sawfly responding significantly stronger to a binary blend of stereoisomers in a synergistic fashion than to a single stereoisomer alone.

  • Rhombohedral and turbostratic boron nitride : X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence signatures
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 119:26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Boron nitride (BN) layers with sp(2) bonding have been grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition on AlN underlayers, which are deposited on c-plane sapphire substrates. Two different boron precursors were employed-trimethylboron and triethylboron-while ammonia was used as the nitrogen precursor. The BN obtained epitaxial BN films contain ordered rhombohedral (rBN) and partially ordered turbostratic (tBN) stackings as evidenced by x-ray diffraction analysis. We discriminatively identify the PL signatures of the rBN and tBN from those typical of the hexagonal (hBN) and Bernal stackings (bBN). The optical signature of tBN appears at 5.45eV, and it intercalates between the two recombination bands typical of rBN at 5.35eV (strong intensity) and 5.55eV(weaker intensity). The analogs of the high intensity band at 5.35eV in rBN sit at 5.47eV for hBN and at 5.54eV for bBN.

  • Cost Model for remanufacturing
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: SPSS2022 : Proceedings of the 10th Swedish Production Symposium - Proceedings of the 10th Swedish Production Symposium. - 2352-7528 .- 2352-751X. - 9781643682693 - 9781643682686 ; 21, s. 267-278
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the years, remanufacturing practices have grown in popularity in industrial areas. It is one of the most effective ways to keep products out of landfills by turning end-of-life items into usable products. However, the available literature on cost models is limited or specific to a product. A general cost model for remanufacturing is presented in this paper to understand the major costs involved in the process to aid decision-making. A model is developed based on activity-based costing and performance-based costing by considering both the activities that occur during the process and their performance. As a result of using the proposed model, it is easier to monitor the costs of each activity, changes in performance, and understand the resulting impact on the cost of finished products.

  • Flintmining at Södra Sallerups (Sweden)
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Prehistoric Flint Mines in Europe. - : Archaeopress. - 9781803272214 - 9781803272221 ; , s. 327-339
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The area in Södra Sallerup is, as far as we know, the only large-scale flint mining area in Sweden. Radiocarbon dates indicate that the flint was mined mainly during the Early Neolithic. It is clear, however, that the flint that was scattered throughout the area by the mining activity was used during later periods, even as late as the Viking and Medieval Periods. The large-scale mining during the Early Neolithic was probably related to the extraction of high-quality flint for the production of point-butted axes. The concentration of these axes to south-west Scania and eastern Zealand points in this direction. However, it would be wrong to assume that the mines were merely ‘axe factories’, motivated by economic reasons only. The very extraction of flint from pits and shafts in the chalk was most probably socially and symbolically significant in itself. The activity was probably an integral part of the Early Neolithic mentality involving extraction of resources from the land on a scale that was not envisioned until the introduction of farming in this part of Scandinavia.

  • Clonal competition within complex evolutionary hierarchies shapes AML over time
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 11:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Clonal heterogeneity and evolution has major implications for disease progression and relapse in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To model clonal dynamics in vivo, we serially transplanted 23 AML cases to immunodeficient mice and followed clonal composition for up to 15 months by whole-exome sequencing of 84 xenografts across two generations. We demonstrate vast changes in clonality that both progress and reverse over time, and define five patterns of clonal dynamics: Monoclonal, Stable, Loss, Expansion and Burst. We also show that subclonal expansion in vivo correlates with a more adverse prognosis. Furthermore, clonal expansion enabled detection of very rare clones with AML driver mutations that were undetectable by sequencing at diagnosis, demonstrating that the vast majority of AML cases harbor multiple clones already at diagnosis. Finally, the rise and fall of related clones enabled deconstruction of the complex evolutionary hierarchies of the clones that compete to shape AML over time.

  • Epitaxial thin films of group 4 transition metal diborides
  • 2023
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Group 4 transition metal diboride films were deposited epitaxially onto different substrates, typically at 900 °C, using direct-current magnetron sputtering from compound targets of ZrB2, TiB2, and HfB2. Epitaxial ZrB2 has been deposited on Al2O3(0001), 4H-SiC(0001), and Si(100) describing the epitaxial relationships on Si(100) for the first time, where two relationships were observed from pole-figure analysis, namely A) in-plane: ZrB2[001] ∥ Si[110] and ZrB2[110] ∥ Si[110], out-of-plane: ZrB2(100) ∥ Si(100), and B) in-plane: ZrB2[11] ∥ Si[110] and the same rotated 90° around the 102 axis, out-of- plane: ZrB2(102) ∥ Si(100). Composition analysis by time-of-flight elastic recoil detection analysis revealed typically B-rich ZrB2 and TiB2, and stoichiometric to Hf-rich HfB2. For ZrB2, the application of an additional external magnetic field during growth influenced the B-to-Zr ratio towards being stoichiometric. Rocking curve measurements of ZrB2 deposited onto Si(100) reveal a higher crystal order in the 100-oriented domains, compared to the 102-oriented domains. In ZrB2 films annealed to temperatures in the range of 1100-1500 °C, rocking curve measurements of the symmetric 001 reflection as well as the asymmetric 101 reflection reveal increased order with increased temperature. This phenomenon occurred at lower temperature when the annealing was performed in H2 compared to Ar.The morphology in plan-view transmission electron microscopy reflects the composition of the film: TiB2.5 has B-rich areas around the grain boundaries, forming an almost continuous network around the grains. ZrBx films with x between 2.0 and 2.3 also contain B-rich regions, though to a smaller extent and mostly in areas where more than two grains adjoin each other. In Hf-rich HfB1.8, no B-rich areas were observed. Scanning transmission electron micrographs and a combination of B electron energy loss spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis Hf distribution maps revealed Hf-rich areas in a close-to single crystalline matrix. The hardness of epitaxial HfB2 films is reported to 33 and 36 GPa for films deposited onto Al2O3 and SiC, respectively. These values are slightly higher than reported for bulk HfB2. ZrB2 films on SiC decrease in hardness to 38, 37, and 30 GPa, upon annealing in Ar up to 1100, 1300, and 1500 °C, respectively. In summary, the knowledge is expanded about epitaxially grown group 4 transition metal diborides in terms of their Chemical composition, crystallographic orientations, microstructure, electrical and mechanical properties, as well as their response to heat treatment.

  • 2023
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The realisation of a successful product requires collaboration between developers andproducers, taking account of stakeholder value, reinforcing the contribution of industry tosociety and enhancing the wellbeing of workers while respecting planetary boundaries.Founded in 2006, the Swedish Production Academy (SPA) aims to drive and developproduction research and education and to increase cooperation within the production area.SPA initiated and hosts the conference Swedish Production Symposium. This specialissue is based on invited papers from the 10th Swedish Production Symposium(SPS2022), held in Skövde, Sweden, from 26–29 April 2022. The overall theme forSPS2022 was ‘Industry 5.0 transformation – towards a sustainable, human-centric, andresilient production’.As stated by the European Commission the vision of Industry 5.0 recognises societalgoals. It goes beyond a techno-economic vision, industrial value chains and growthaiming for the industry to become a resilient provider of prosperity, respecting ourplanets boundaries, and placing the industrial worker, her well-being, at the centre of theproduction process. In this special issue, we set out to explore the transition to a resilient, sustainable andhuman centric industry. The first paper explores the need for a joint strategical vision thatinclude technology (selection, development, and implementation), organisation(structure, agility, management, stakeholder collaborations, work environment) andpeople (skills and competences, participation, innovation and creative collaborativeculture, and change readiness), to achieve a resilient and sustainable production systemeffectively and efficiently. The second paper discusses how reconfigurable manufacturingsystems can enable sustainable manufacturing and circularity, achieving highresponsiveness and cost efficiency. The third paper, a synthesis of universal workplacedesign in assembly, explores how human assembly workplaces can be designed in abetter way in regard to inclusion of diverse worker populations. The fourth paperdiscusses different meanings of digital transformation in manufacturing industry fromboth a theoretical and industrial perspective. The fifth paper explores challenges to designa product service system at an SME as an approach to support transition to Industry 5.0.The concluding paper in this special issue discusses a knowledge extraction platform forreproducible decision support based on data from multi-objective experiments. The organiser of SPS2022 has found these six outstanding papers to perfectly alignwith the theme ‘Industry 5.0 transformation’ and express their gratitude to theEditor-in-Chief of IJMR for accepting them for publication in this special issue.

  • Investigation on resource-efficient aluminium recycling – A state of the art review
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: SPS2022: Proceedings of the 10th Swedish production symposium. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 2352-7528 .- 2352-751X. - 9781643682686 - 9781643682693 ; , s. 15-27
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recycling is an important area to improve to reduce negative impact on the environment. With increased material recovery, less virgin materials are needed to provide the same benefits for the society. Aluminium is an important metal in the efforts to reduce negative climate impact. Demand for wrought aluminium will heavily increase with electrification of vehicles. However, with today’s recycling, contamination of aluminium alloys results in significant losses where wrought aluminium products are downcycled to cast aluminium with lower value and performance. This paper review the state of the art of aluminium recycling and investigate the current knowledge on the recyclability of current important aluminium alloys and their alloying elements. Future implementations and research are explored to find possible road maps for a sustainable circular economy of aluminium products. The findings indicate that closed-loop recycling trough better developed sorting and separation processes are one of the primary improvement directions. Also, improve utilization of the alloys and their alloying elements in the making of new aluminium alloys.
