  • Longitudinal and Transverse-Momentum Distributions of Li-9 Fragments from Break-up of Li-11
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 347:3-4, s. 198-204
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transverse and longitudinal momentum distributions of Li-9 fragments from Li-11 break-up reactions in C, Al and Pb targets have been measured at 280 MeV/u. The two-neutron removal cross-section was measured to be sigma(-2n), = 0.26 +/- 0.02 b for the carbon target, sigma(-2n) = 0.47 +/- 0.08 b for the aluminum target and sigma(-2n), = 1.9 +/- 0.4 b for the lead target. No significant difference is observed between the narrow widths (FWHM approximate to 47 MeV/c) of the transverse and longitudinal momentum distributions of the Li-9 fragments. The physical implications of this are discussed.

  • He-6 and neutron momentum distributions from He-8 in nuclear break-up reactions at 240 MeV/u
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 598:3, s. 418-434
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron and He-6 momentum distributions from He-8 break-up reactions in a C target have been measured at 240 MeV/u. The two-neutron removal cross section was found to be sigma(-2n) = 0.27 +/- 0.03 b. The nature of the momentum distributions is interpreted in some simple reaction scenarios.

  • Neutron Momentum Distributions from Core Break-up Reactions of Halo Nuclei
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Europhysics Letters. - 0295-5075 .- 1286-4854. ; 30:1, s. 19-24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron angular distributions from violent break-up reactions of Li-11 and Be-11 have been measured at 28 MeV/u and 280 MeV/u and at 41 MeV/u and 460 MeV/u, respectively. The derived neutron momentum distributions show a narrow component in transverse momentum that is within uncertainties independent of beam energy and target charge. This component is suggested to be simply related to the momentum distribution of the loosely bound halo neutron(s) in the projectiles.

  • Invariant-mass spectroscopy of Li-10 and Li-11
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 619:1-2, s. 151-176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Break-up of secondary Li-11 ion beams (280 MeV/nucleon) on C and Pb targets into Li-9 and neutrons is studied experimentally. Cross sections and neutron multiplicity distributions are obtained, characterizing different reaction mechanisms. Invariant-mass spectroscopy for Li-11 and Li-10 is performed. The E1 strength distribution, deduced from electromagnetic excitation of Li-11 up to an excitation energy of 4 MeV comprises similar to 8% of the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn energy-weighted sumrule strength. Two low-lying resonance-like structures are observed for Li-10 at decay energies of 0.21(5) and 0.62(10) MeV, the former one carrying 26(10)% of the strength and likely to be associated with an s-wave neutron decay. A strong di-neutron correlation in Li-11 can be discarded. Calculations in a quasi-particle RPA approach are compared with the experimental results for Li-10 and Li-11. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

  • Risk factor clustering in patients with hypertension and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The Skaraborg Hypertension Project
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of Internal Medicine. - 1365-2796. ; 243:3, s. 223-232
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: To assess the coexistence of hypertension and diabetes, associations with cardiovascular risk factors and the achievement of current treatment goals. DESIGN: A community-based, cross-sectional, observational study. SETTING: Hypertension and diabetes outpatient clinics in primary health care, Skara, Sweden. SUBJECTS: All patients (n = 1116; 488 men, 628 women) who performed an annual follow-up from May 1992 to September 1993. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Hypertension, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), blood pressure, fasting B-glucose, lipids, HbAlc, body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR). RESULTS: Hypertension alone was found in 286 men and 430 women, hypertension and NIDDM combined in 102 men and 102 women, and NIDDM alone in 100 men and 96 women. Taking new cases into account, the proportion of hypertension among NIDDM patients was 57%, and the proportion of NIDDM among hypertensives was 26%. Men and women with both hypertension and NIDDM had a higher systolic blood pressure and women also had a higher diastolic blood pressure (men 168/88 mmHg, women 165/86 mmHg) than those with hypertension alone (men 152/87 mmHg, women 156/82 mmHg) (P < or = 0.001). Cardiovascular risk factors accumulated in patients with both hypertension and NIDDM (triglycerides, BMI and WHR). A diastolic blood pressure < or = 90 mmHg was achieved by 71% men and 84% women with hypertension. HbAlc < 7.5% was attained by 71% men and 70% women with NIDDM. CONCLUSIONS: A considerable coexistence of hypertension and NIDDM was demonstrated. Cardiovascular risk factors clustered in patients with both diseases and their blood pressure was less controlled. These patients thus comprised a clinically defined group at high risk. By current guidelines, control of hypertension and NIDDM seemed appropriate.

  • Core-breakup reactions of the halo nuclei Be-11 and Li-11: momentum distributions and shadow effects
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 650:1, s. 47-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The halo nuclei Be-11 and Li-11 have been studied in core-breakup reactions where the halo neutrons are expected to be released without a major distortion due to the reaction. The widths of the halo-neutron momentum distributions have been extracted in coincidence with He fragments, Gamma = 32 +/- 4 MeV/c, and Li fragments, Gamma = 42 +/- 4 MeV/c for Be-11 and with He fragments, Gamma =42+/-6 MeV/c for Li-11. The Be-11 breakup gives a very low neutron multiplicity of 0.38+/-0.09 which is a manifestation of the shadowing of the neutron in the core-breakup reaction. This value can be understood from a simple theoretical calculation, which also accounts for the observed transverse momentum widths at small angles. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.

  • Retningslinjer for utredning og behandling av kronisk obstruktiv lungesykdom
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Tidsskrift for Den Norske Lægeforening. - 0029-2001. ; 115:6, s. 710-713
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A group of chest physicians, general practitioners, clinical pharmacologist and pharmacists appointed by the Institute of Pharmacotherapy, University of Oslo has evaluated the present knowledge about treatment of chronic obstructive lung disease. The group discusses today's medical treatment of this rather numerous group of patients. It is stated that, to a high degree, the treatment of these patients lacks proper documentation, and that treatment needs to be tested out on an individual basis. The group proposes a flow chart for this purpose.

  • On the Non-Stoichiometry in Rutile-Type »SbVO4
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Journal of Solid State Chemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-4596. ; 116:2, s. 369-377
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heating equimolar mixtures of Sb2O3 and V2O5 at 800 degrees C in flowing gas with varying O-2/N-2 ratios produces a continuous nonstoichiometric series of rutile type, i.e., Sb(0.9)V(0.9+x)square(0.2-x)O(4), 0 < x < 0.2, and varying amounts of alpha-Sb2O4. Oxidized Sb(0.9)V(0.9)square(0.2)O(4), a = 4.63, c = 3.03 Angstrom (X ray powder data, XRD), is formed in pure oxygen and exhibits a modulated structure with an approximate supercell: 2 root 2a, 2 root 2b, 4c (electron diffraction, ED). In pure nitrogen, reduced Sb0.9V1.1O4, a = 4.60, c = 3.08 Angstrom (XRD), with the supercell root 2a, root 2b, 2c (ED), is produced. Heating at intermediate partial pressures of oxygen give phases with the basic rutile cell a = b, c (XRD, ED). The formulation of this series is supported by data obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Under reducing conditions (in pure nitrogen), a solid solution series of Sb0.9V1.1O4 and VO2 is observed, i.e., Sb0.9-yV1.1+yO4, 0 < y < 0.7. Vanadium-rich Sb0.2V1.8O4, with a = 4.55, c = 2.99 Angstrom (XRD), exhibits a basic rutile lattice with diffuse intensity between Bragg spots (ED). (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.

  • DNA ploidy analysis in breast carcinoma. Comparison of unfixed and fixed tissue analyzed by image and flow cytometry
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Analytical and Quantitative Cytology and Histology. - 0884-6812. ; 19:5, s. 413-422
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To form a methodologic basis for DNA analysis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive carcinoma (IC) of the breast, including very small lesions, by comparison of flow cytometric (FCM) and image cytometric (ICM) methods for DNA quantitation. STUDY DESIGN: The material consisted of 41 DCIS lesions and 26 ICs. FCM DNA analysis of unfixed, frozen samples were compared to (1) FCM of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue; (2) ICM of imprints; and (3) ICM of paraffin-embedded tissue sections. RESULTS: FCM of unfixed tissue showed higher DNA measurement precision and a higher number of DNA nondiploid clones as compared to the other three methods. For the classification of DNA diploid/nondiploid cases, high concordance rates were found between the methods. Discordant cases were predominantly DNA neardiploid by FCM of unfixed tissue but DNA diploid by the other methods. The reproducibility of the DNA index (DI) was best in the interval 1.2 < DI < or = 2.2; it was 74% for FCM of fixed tissue and 79% for ICM of imprints. Clones with DI > 3 were found almost exclusively by ICM of imprints. For ICM of tissue sections, DI could not be reliably estimated. By ICM, contrary to FCM, a combined DNA diploid and nondiploid pattern was found frequently. CONCLUSION: Each of the methods has its own advantages and limitations. If possible, FCM should be combined with ICM. FCM of unfixed tissue is superior to the other methods with respect to precise DI estimation. Alternatively, FCM of fixed tissue and ICM of imprints may both give a reliable estimate of DI. ICM of tissue sections can discriminate DNA diploid from nondiploid clones, except for neardiploid subpopulations, and permits the analysis of very small lesions.

  • Electromagnetic polarizabilities of nucleons bound in 40Ca, 16O and 4He
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 646:1, s. 67-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differential cross sections for elastic scattering of photons have been measured for 40Ca at energies of 58 and 74 MeV and for 16O and 4He at 61 MeV, in the angular range from 45° to 150°. Evidence is obtained that there are no significant in-medium modifications of the electromagnetic polarizabilities except for those originating from meson exchange currents.
