  • Porous functional nanofilms for designing bioinspired sensor surfaces
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceeding of Advanced Materials World Congress. - Linköping, Sweden : VBRI Press. - 9789188252005
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Bio-mimicking of recognition features typical of biological molecules such as aminoacids, peptides, nucleic acid etc. is leading to the design and development of novel functional (artificial) materials for chemical/biochemical sensing applications. The insertion of biological molecules or their active sites into the backbone of synthetic polymers is one of the possible ways to achieve this. Herein, we synthesised a polymerisable derivative of an amino acid (L-histidine) through a set of reactions with 1-(1Hbenzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-1-yl)-2-methylprop-2-en-1-one (MA-Bt), since amino acid residues are the origin for the functional properties and highly selective substrate-binding ability of many extended biological structures. We obtained a functional monomer methacryloylamidohistidine (MAH), which was polymerised with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate in presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on a gold surface. The aim of using PVA was to obtain highly porous polymeric structure. For control purpose, polymers without MAH and PVA were also synthesised. The morphology of the polymeric film on gold surface was characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The obtained polymer showed significant affinity for Cu2+. The electrochemical behaviour of the polymeric films was systematically investigated with differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The presence of pores was shown to significantly improve the recognition performance of the film.

  • Searches for scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at [Formula: see text] = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Searches for pair-produced scalar leptoquarks are performed using 20 fb[Formula: see text] of proton-proton collision data provided by the LHC and recorded by the ATLAS detector at [Formula: see text] TeV. Events with two electrons (muons) and two or more jets in the final state are used to search for first (second)-generation leptoquarks. The results from two previously published ATLAS analyses are interpreted in terms of third-generation leptoquarks decaying to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] final states. No statistically significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed in any channel and scalar leptoquarks are excluded at 95 % CL with masses up to [Formula: see text] 1050 GeV for first-generation leptoquarks, [Formula: see text] 1000 GeV for second-generation leptoquarks, [Formula: see text] 625 GeV for third-generation leptoquarks in the [Formula: see text] channel, and 200 [Formula: see text] 640 GeV in the [Formula: see text] channel.

  • Performance of Cell-Free Massive MIMO With Rician Fading and Phase Shifts
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1536-1276 .- 1558-2248. ; 18:11, s. 5299-5315
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we study the uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) spectral efficiency (SE) of a cell-free massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system over Rician fading channels. The phase of the line-of-sight (LoS) path is modeled as a uniformly distributed random variable to take the phase-shifts due to mobility and phase noise into account. Considering the availability of prior information at the access points (APs), the phase-aware minimum mean square error (MMSE), non-aware linear MMSE (LMMSE), and least-square (LS) estimators are derived. The MMSE estimator requires perfectly estimated phase knowledge whereas the LMMSE and LS are derived without it. In the UL, a two-layer decoding method is investigated in order to mitigate both coherent and non-coherent interference. Closed-form UL SE expressions with phase-aware MMSE, LMMSE, and LS estimators are derived for maximum-ratio (MR) combining in the first layer and optimal large-scale fading decoding (LSFD) in the second layer. In the DL, two different transmission modes are studied: coherent and non-coherent. Closed-form DL SE expressions for both transmission modes with MR precoding are derived for the three estimators. Numerical results show that the LSFD improves the UL SE performance and coherent transmission mode performs much better than non-coherent transmission in the DL. Besides, the performance loss due to the lack of phase information depends on the pilot length and it is small when the pilot contamination is low.

  • Determination of spin and parity of the Higgs boson in the [Formula: see text] decay channel with the ATLAS detector.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 75:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Studies of the spin and parity quantum numbers of the Higgs boson in the [Formula: see text] final state are presented, based on proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text] at a centre-of-mass energy of [Formula: see text] TeV. The Standard Model spin-parity [Formula: see text] hypothesis is compared with alternative hypotheses for both spin and CP. The case where the observed resonance is a mixture of the Standard-Model-like Higgs boson and CP-even ([Formula: see text]) or CP-odd ([Formula: see text]) Higgs boson in scenarios beyond the Standard Model is also studied. The data are found to be consistent with the Standard Model prediction and limits are placed on alternative spin and CP hypotheses, including CP mixing in different scenarios.

  • Measurements of fiducial cross-sections for [Formula: see text] production with one or two additional b-jets in pp collisions at [Formula: see text]=8 TeV using the ATLAS detector.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fiducial cross-sections for [Formula: see text] production with one or two additional b-jets are reported, using an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text] of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider, collected with the ATLAS detector. The cross-section times branching ratio for [Formula: see text] events with at least one additional b-jet is measured to be 950 [Formula: see text] 70 (stat.) [Formula: see text] (syst.) fb in the lepton-plus-jets channel and 50 [Formula: see text] 10 (stat.) [Formula: see text] (syst.) fb in the [Formula: see text] channel. The cross-section times branching ratio for events with at least two additional b-jets is measured to be 19.3 [Formula: see text] 3.5 (stat.) [Formula: see text] 5.7 (syst.) fb in the dilepton channel ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and ee) using a method based on tight selection criteria, and 13.5 [Formula: see text] 3.3 (stat.) [Formula: see text] 3.6 (syst.) fb using a looser selection that allows the background normalisation to be extracted from data. The latter method also measures a value of 1.30 [Formula: see text] 0.33 (stat.) [Formula: see text] 0.28 (syst.)% for the ratio of [Formula: see text] production with two additional b-jets to [Formula: see text] production with any two additional jets. All measurements are in good agreement with recent theory predictions.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for a new resonance decaying to a W or Z boson and a Higgs boson in the [Formula: see text] final states is performed using 20.3 fb[Formula: see text] of pp collision data recorded at [Formula: see text] 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The search is conducted by examining the WH / ZH invariant mass distribution for a localized excess. No significant deviation from the Standard Model background prediction is observed. The results are interpreted in terms of constraints on the Minimal Walking Technicolor model and on a simplified approach based on a phenomenological Lagrangian of Heavy Vector Triplets.

  • Search for Higgs boson pair production in the [Formula: see text] final state from pp collisions at [Formula: see text] TeVwith the ATLAS detector.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 75:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for Higgs boson pair production [Formula: see text] is performed with 19.5 fb[Formula: see text] of proton-proton collision data at [Formula: see text] TeV, which were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012. The decay products of each Higgs boson are reconstructed as a high-momentum [Formula: see text] system with either a pair of small-radius jets or a single large-radius jet, the latter exploiting jet substructure techniques and associated b-tagged track-jets. No evidence for resonant or non-resonant Higgs boson pair production is observed. The data are interpreted in the context of the Randall-Sundrum model with a warped extra dimension as well as the two-Higgs-doublet model. An upper limit on the cross-section for [Formula: see text] of 3.2 (2.3) fb is set for a Kaluza-Klein graviton [Formula: see text] mass of 1.0 (1.5) TeV, at the 95 % confidence level. The search for non-resonant Standard Model hh production sets an observed 95 % confidence level upper limit on the production cross-section [Formula: see text] of 202 fb, compared to a Standard Model prediction of [Formula: see text] fb.

  • Study of the [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decays with the ATLAS detector.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The decays [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.9 and 20.6 fb[Formula: see text] of pp collisions collected at centre-of-mass energies [Formula: see text] TeV and 8 TeV, respectively. Signal candidates are identified through [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decays. With a two-dimensional likelihood fit involving the [Formula: see text] reconstructed invariant mass and an angle between the [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] candidate momenta in the muon pair rest frame, the yields of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], and the transverse polarisation fraction in [Formula: see text] decay are measured. The transverse polarisation fraction is determined to be [Formula: see text], and the derived ratio of the branching fractions of the two modes is [Formula: see text], where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. Finally, a sample of [Formula: see text] decays is used to derive the ratios of branching fractions [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], where the third error corresponds to the uncertainty of the branching fraction of [Formula: see text] decay. The available theoretical predictions are generally consistent with the measurement.

  • An alternative reading of religion and authoritarianism : the new logic between religion and state in the AKPs New Turkey
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Southeast European and Black Sea Studies. - : Routledge. - 1468-3857 .- 1743-9639. ; 19:1, s. 79-98
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since roughly 2011, the Turkish state and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have been going through a process of mutual transformation. Some of the historical apprehensions, biases and frustrations exhibited by Turkey as a middle power have been absorbed by the relatively reformist AKP. Conversely, the AKP and its undisputed leader Erdogan have seen their socio-political fears, power based conflicts and ethno-religious desires become dominant in all areas, including religion. As a consequence of this bilateral transformation, Turkey has become both an inclusionary and a hegemonic-authoritarian state, and at the same time a weak one. Within this new identity and structure of the state, Sunni Islam has become one of the regimes key focal points, with a new logic. This article seeks to explain the transformation of the relations between the AKPs Turkish state, religion and religious groups, by scrutinising Karrie Koesels logic of state-religion interaction in authoritarian regimes.

  • Measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates and coupling strengths using pp collision data at [Formula: see text] and 8 TeV in the ATLAS experiment.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Combined analyses of the Higgs boson production and decay rates as well as its coupling strengths to vector bosons and fermions are presented. The combinations include the results of the analyses of the [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] decay modes, and the constraints on the associated production with a pair of top quarks and on the off-shell coupling strengths of the Higgs boson. The results are based on the LHC proton-proton collision datasets, with integrated luminosities of up to 4.7 [Formula: see text] at [Formula: see text] TeV and 20.3 [Formula: see text] at [Formula: see text] TeV, recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2011 and 2012. Combining all production modes and decay channels, the measured signal yield, normalised to the Standard Model expectation, is [Formula: see text]. The observed Higgs boson production and decay rates are interpreted in a leading-order coupling framework, exploring a wide range of benchmark coupling models both with and without assumptions on the Higgs boson width and on the Standard Model particle content in loop processes. The data are found to be compatible with the Standard Model expectations for a Higgs boson at a mass of 125.36 GeV for all models considered.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 75:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for heavy long-lived multi-charged particles is performed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Data collected in 2012 at [Formula: see text] TeV from pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb[Formula: see text]are examined. Particles producing anomalously high ionisation, consistent with long-lived massive particles with electric charges from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] are searched for. No signal candidate events are observed, and 95 % confidence level cross-section upper limits are interpreted as lower mass limits for a Drell-Yan production model. The mass limits range between 660 and 785 GeV.

  • Symmetrical doherty amplifier with high efficiency over large output power dynamic range
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest. - 0149-645X. - 9781479938698
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • For the conventional Doherty power amplifiers, asymmetrical cells are used to achieve high efficiency over large (> 6 dB) output power dynamic ranges, i.e. larger class-C cell. In this paper, it will be theoretically proven that high efficiency over large dynamic ranges also can be achieved using symmetrical devices, while still maintaining full voltage and current swing of both transistor cells. Using a smaller class-C cell compared to the asymmetrical Doherty has the advantages of higher gain and power added efficiency (PAE). The proposed symmetrical Doherty concept is experimentally verified by a 3.5 GHz 28 Watt circuit demonstrator fabricated using identical GaN HEMT devices. An average power added efficiency of 52% and adjacent power leakage ratio of -52 dB is obtained with 9 dB peak-to-average power-ratio 20 MHz LTE test signals.

    • Our aim in this paper is to evaluate the causal effect of foreign acquisition on research and development (R&D) intensity in targeted domestic firms. We are able to distinguish domestic multinational enterprises (MNEs) and non-MNEs, which allows us to investigate the fear that the change in ownership of domestic MNEs to foreign MNEs leads to a reduction in R&D activity in the country. Overall, our results give no support to the fears that foreign acquisition of domestic firms leads to a relocation of R&D activity in Swedish MNEs. Rather, in this paper, we find robust evidence that foreign acquisitions lead to increasing R&D intensity in acquired domestic MNEs and non-MNEs.

  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2162-2337 .- 2162-2345. ; 9:5, s. 581-585
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Intelligent reflecting surfaces can improve the communication between a source and a destination. The surface contains metamaterial that is configured to "reflect" the incident wave from the source towards the destination. Two incompatible pathloss models have been used in prior work. In this letter, we derive the far-field pathloss using physical optics techniques and explain why the surface consists of many elements that individually act as diffuse scatterers but can jointly beamform the signal in a desired direction with a certain beamwidth. We disprove one of the previously conjectured pathloss models.

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 2021 IEEE International Conference on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics (SSRR), October 25-27 2021, New York, USA..
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Area coverage and robot navigation are two  important research fields within robotics. However, their intersection has received limited attention. In coverage problems, perfect navigation is often assumed, and in robot navigation, the focus is often to minimize the localization error while traveling a given trajectory. The need for integration of the two becomes clear in environments with very sparse features or landmarks, for example when an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is to search the seafloor for dangerous objects, such as mines. The potential consequences of missing a mine due to navigation errors can be catastrophic. If the localization error is large, a trajectory that was designed to guarantee complete coverage might have missed significant parts of the area. Thus, the coverage trajectory must be planned with the navigation performance in mind, applying a combination of using large enough planned overlaps of sensor footprints to account for the position uncertainty, and reducing this uncertainty by re-visiting the known sparse landmarks. In this paper we compute trajectories that guarantee coverage for a given area under assumptions on worst case localization error growth. We further more compute upper bounds for how large areas can be covered using common coverage patterns and a single landmark, which leads to bounds on how sparse the landmarks can be in the regions to be covered.

  • Better safe than sorry: An empirical investigation of the role of purchaser experience
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The lead times of suppliers vary considerably, causing manufacturers to suffer from low service levels and also to accumulate material and product inventories. Although various inventory control and production planning models have been studied in the operations management literature, there is scant research on the behavioral aspects of purchasing decisions beyond the ordering quantity. Drawing on transaction-level purchasing data from a large European manufacturer, we investigate the purchasers' ordering behavior under variable lead times. We examine the learning of the purchasers from their experiences with the suppliers, in terms of both how many encounters they had with the suppliers and how the experiences went. We apply two-part regression models with fixed effects to estimate the effects of purchaser experience and past supplier performance. Our analysis reveals insights into the purchasers' learning process, indicating that they rely on their prior encounters with suppliers and change their ordering behavior as they gain experience. We show that the decision to add positive safety time is driven mainly by supplier performance. With experience, purchasers become more eager to use safety time as a buffering strategy, while simultaneously learning not to overreact to past supplier performance. Furthermore, purchasers give higher weights to the normalized lateness/tardiness of their most recent encounters than to earlier ones. Our results highlight the importance of understanding the behavioral aspects that impact purchasing operations, due to which employees might have objectives that are misaligned with the company goals. This finding also points to a need for further automation of ordering tasks as well as the incorporation of behavioral factors to decision support systems.

  • Retinoic acid receptor and CNGA2 channel signaling are part of a regulatory feedback loop controlling axonal convergence and survival of olfactory sensory neurons
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: The FASEB Journal. - : Federation of American Society of Experimental Biology (FASEB). - 0892-6638 .- 1530-6860. ; 26:2, s. 617-627
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Little is known about the identities and functions of extracellular signaling molecules that work in concert with neuronal activity to regulate refinement and maintenance of the mouse olfactory sensory map. We show that expression of a dominant negative retinoic acid receptor (RAR) in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) increased the number of glomeruli that incorrectly contained OSN axons expressing different odorant receptors. This phenotype became apparent postnatally, coincided with increased cell death, and was preceded by increased Neuropilin-1 and reduced Kirrel-2 expressions. Kirrel-2-mediated cell adhesion influences odorant receptor-specific axonal convergence and is regulated by odorant receptor signaling via the olfactory cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) ion channel. Accordingly, we found that inhibited RAR function correlated with reduced CNG channel expression. Naris occlusion experiments and analysis of CNG channel-deficient mice further indicated that RAR-regulated CNG channel levels influenced the intrinsic neuronal activity required for cell survival in the absence of odor stimulation. Finally, we showed that CNG channel activity regulated expression of the retinoic acid-degrading enzyme Cyp26B1. Combined, these results identify a novel homeostatic feedback mechanism involving retinoic acid metabolism and CNG channel activity, which influences glomerular homogeneity and maintenance of precisely connected OSNs.

    • The material innovations and developments can play a key role in realizing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) commercialization. However, it seems missing in the long SOFC R&D strategy. Recent R&D. on innovative ceria-based composites (CBCs) make a breakthrough and open a new research subject on low-temperature (300-600 degrees C) SOFCs. Low temperatures create many freedoms to develop next generation fuel cell technology for commercialization.
