  • No clinical utility of KRAS variant rs61764370 for ovarian or breast cancer
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Gynecologic Oncology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0090-8258 .- 1095-6859. ; 141:2, s. 386-401
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective Clinical genetic testing is commercially available for rs61764370, an inherited variant residing in a KRAS 3′ UTR microRNA binding site, based on suggested associations with increased ovarian and breast cancer risk as well as with survival time. However, prior studies, emphasizing particular subgroups, were relatively small. Therefore, we comprehensively evaluated ovarian and breast cancer risks as well as clinical outcome associated with rs61764370. Methods Centralized genotyping and analysis were performed for 140,012 women enrolled in the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium (15,357 ovarian cancer patients; 30,816 controls), the Breast Cancer Association Consortium (33,530 breast cancer patients; 37,640 controls), and the Consortium of Modifiers of BRCA1 and BRCA2 (14,765 BRCA1 and 7904 BRCA2 mutation carriers). Results We found no association with risk of ovarian cancer (OR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.94-1.04, p = 0.74) or breast cancer (OR = 0.98, 95% CI 0.94-1.01, p = 0.19) and results were consistent among mutation carriers (BRCA1, ovarian cancer HR = 1.09, 95% CI 0.97-1.23, p = 0.14, breast cancer HR = 1.04, 95% CI 0.97-1.12, p = 0.27; BRCA2, ovarian cancer HR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.71-1.13, p = 0.34, breast cancer HR = 1.06, 95% CI 0.94-1.19, p = 0.35). Null results were also obtained for associations with overall survival following ovarian cancer (HR = 0.94, 95% CI 0.83-1.07, p = 0.38), breast cancer (HR = 0.96, 95% CI 0.87-1.06, p = 0.38), and all other previously-reported associations. Conclusions rs61764370 is not associated with risk of ovarian or breast cancer nor with clinical outcome for patients with these cancers. Therefore, genotyping this variant has no clinical utility related to the prediction or management of these cancers.

  • Global, regional, and national life expectancy, all-cause mortality, and cause-specific mortality for 249 causes of death, 1980-2015 : a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2015
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The Lancet. - 0140-6736 .- 1474-547X. ; 388:10053, s. 1459-1544
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Improving survival and extending the longevity of life for all populations requires timely, robust evidence on local mortality levels and trends. The Global Burden of Disease 2015 Study (GBD 2015) provides a comprehensive assessment of all-cause and cause-specific mortality for 249 causes in 195 countries and territories from 1980 to 2015. These results informed an in-depth investigation of observed and expected mortality patterns based on sociodemographic measures.METHODS: We estimated all-cause mortality by age, sex, geography, and year using an improved analytical approach originally developed for GBD 2013 and GBD 2010. Improvements included refinements to the estimation of child and adult mortality and corresponding uncertainty, parameter selection for under-5 mortality synthesis by spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression, and sibling history data processing. We also expanded the database of vital registration, survey, and census data to 14 294 geography-year datapoints. For GBD 2015, eight causes, including Ebola virus disease, were added to the previous GBD cause list for mortality. We used six modelling approaches to assess cause-specific mortality, with the Cause of Death Ensemble Model (CODEm) generating estimates for most causes. We used a series of novel analyses to systematically quantify the drivers of trends in mortality across geographies. First, we assessed observed and expected levels and trends of cause-specific mortality as they relate to the Socio-demographic Index (SDI), a summary indicator derived from measures of income per capita, educational attainment, and fertility. Second, we examined factors affecting total mortality patterns through a series of counterfactual scenarios, testing the magnitude by which population growth, population age structures, and epidemiological changes contributed to shifts in mortality. Finally, we attributed changes in life expectancy to changes in cause of death. We documented each step of the GBD 2015 estimation processes, as well as data sources, in accordance with Guidelines for Accurate and Transparent Health Estimates Reporting (GATHER).FINDINGS: Globally, life expectancy from birth increased from 61·7 years (95% uncertainty interval 61·4-61·9) in 1980 to 71·8 years (71·5-72·2) in 2015. Several countries in sub-Saharan Africa had very large gains in life expectancy from 2005 to 2015, rebounding from an era of exceedingly high loss of life due to HIV/AIDS. At the same time, many geographies saw life expectancy stagnate or decline, particularly for men and in countries with rising mortality from war or interpersonal violence. From 2005 to 2015, male life expectancy in Syria dropped by 11·3 years (3·7-17·4), to 62·6 years (56·5-70·2). Total deaths increased by 4·1% (2·6-5·6) from 2005 to 2015, rising to 55·8 million (54·9 million to 56·6 million) in 2015, but age-standardised death rates fell by 17·0% (15·8-18·1) during this time, underscoring changes in population growth and shifts in global age structures. The result was similar for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with total deaths from these causes increasing by 14·1% (12·6-16·0) to 39·8 million (39·2 million to 40·5 million) in 2015, whereas age-standardised rates decreased by 13·1% (11·9-14·3). Globally, this mortality pattern emerged for several NCDs, including several types of cancer, ischaemic heart disease, cirrhosis, and Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. By contrast, both total deaths and age-standardised death rates due to communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional conditions significantly declined from 2005 to 2015, gains largely attributable to decreases in mortality rates due to HIV/AIDS (42·1%, 39·1-44·6), malaria (43·1%, 34·7-51·8), neonatal preterm birth complications (29·8%, 24·8-34·9), and maternal disorders (29·1%, 19·3-37·1). Progress was slower for several causes, such as lower respiratory infections and nutritional deficiencies, whereas deaths increased for others, including dengue and drug use disorders. Age-standardised death rates due to injuries significantly declined from 2005 to 2015, yet interpersonal violence and war claimed increasingly more lives in some regions, particularly in the Middle East. In 2015, rotaviral enteritis (rotavirus) was the leading cause of under-5 deaths due to diarrhoea (146 000 deaths, 118 000-183 000) and pneumococcal pneumonia was the leading cause of under-5 deaths due to lower respiratory infections (393 000 deaths, 228 000-532 000), although pathogen-specific mortality varied by region. Globally, the effects of population growth, ageing, and changes in age-standardised death rates substantially differed by cause. Our analyses on the expected associations between cause-specific mortality and SDI show the regular shifts in cause of death composition and population age structure with rising SDI. Country patterns of premature mortality (measured as years of life lost [YLLs]) and how they differ from the level expected on the basis of SDI alone revealed distinct but highly heterogeneous patterns by region and country or territory. Ischaemic heart disease, stroke, and diabetes were among the leading causes of YLLs in most regions, but in many cases, intraregional results sharply diverged for ratios of observed and expected YLLs based on SDI. Communicable, maternal, neonatal, and nutritional diseases caused the most YLLs throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with observed YLLs far exceeding expected YLLs for countries in which malaria or HIV/AIDS remained the leading causes of early death.INTERPRETATION: At the global scale, age-specific mortality has steadily improved over the past 35 years; this pattern of general progress continued in the past decade. Progress has been faster in most countries than expected on the basis of development measured by the SDI. Against this background of progress, some countries have seen falls in life expectancy, and age-standardised death rates for some causes are increasing. Despite progress in reducing age-standardised death rates, population growth and ageing mean that the number of deaths from most non-communicable causes are increasing in most countries, putting increased demands on health systems.

  • Prognostic and predictive importance of the estrogen receptor coactivator AIB1 in a randomized trial comparing adjuvant letrozole and tamoxifen therapy in postmenopausal breast cancer : the Danish cohort of BIG 1-98
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0167-6806 .- 1573-7217. ; 166, s. 481-490
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: To evaluate the estrogen receptor coactivator amplified in breast cancer 1 (AIB1) as a prognostic marker, as well as a predictive marker for response to adjuvant tamoxifen and/or aromatase inhibitors, in early estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. Method: AIB1 was analyzed with immunohistochemistry in tissue microarrays of the Danish subcohort (N = 1396) of the International Breast Cancer Study Group’s trial BIG 1-98 (randomization between adjuvant tamoxifen versus letrozole versus the sequence of the two drugs). Results: Forty-six percent of the tumors had a high AIB1 expression. In line with previous studies, AIB1 correlated to a more aggressive tumor-phenotype (HER2 amplification and a high malignancy grade). High AIB1 also correlated to higher estrogen receptor expression (80–100 vs. 1–79%), and ductal histological type. High AIB1 expression was associated with a poor disease-free survival (univariable: hazard ratio 1.35, 95% confidence interval 1.12–1.63. Multivariable: hazard ratio 1.29, 95% confidence interval 1.06–1.58) and overall survival (univariable: hazard ratio 1.34, 95% confidence interval 1.07–1.68. Multivariable: hazard ratio 1.25, 95% confidence interval 0.99–1.60). HER2 did not seem to modify the prognostic effect of AIB1. No difference in treatment effect between tamoxifen and letrozole in relation to AIB1 was found. Conclusions: In a subset of the large international randomized trial BIG 1-98, we confirm AIB1 to be a strong prognostic factor in early breast cancer. Hence, although tumor AIB1 expression does not seem to be useful for the choice of tamoxifen versus an aromatase inhibitor in postmenopausal endocrine-responsive breast cancer, AIB1 is an interesting target for new anti-cancer therapies and further investigations of this biomarker is warranted.

  • Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV : Mapping the Milky Way, Nearby Galaxies, and the Distant Universe
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astronomical Journal. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0004-6256 .- 1538-3881. ; 154:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resolution and. high signal-to-noise ratios in the near-infrared. The Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey is obtaining spatially resolved spectroscopy for thousands of nearby galaxies (median z similar to 0.03). The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) is mapping the galaxy, quasar, and neutral gas distributions between z similar to 0.6 and 3.5 to constrain cosmology using baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortions, and the shape of the power spectrum. Within eBOSS, we are conducting two major subprograms: the SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS), investigating X-ray AGNs. and galaxies in X-ray clusters, and the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS), obtaining spectra of variable sources. All programs use the 2.5 m Sloan Foundation Telescope at the. Apache Point Observatory; observations there began in Summer 2014. APOGEE-2 also operates a second near-infrared spectrograph at the 2.5 m du Pont Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, with observations beginning in early 2017. Observations at both facilities are scheduled to continue through 2020. In keeping with previous SDSS policy, SDSS-IV provides regularly scheduled public data releases; the first one, Data Release 13, was made available in 2016 July.

  • Next-generation ARIA care pathways for rhinitis and asthma : a model for multimorbid chronic diseases
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Clinical and Translational Allergy. - : BMC. - 2045-7022. ; 9
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: In all societies, the burden and cost of allergic and chronic respiratory diseases are increasing rapidly. Most economies are struggling to deliver modern health care effectively. There is a need to support the transformation of the health care system into integrated care with organizational health literacy.Main body: As an example for chronic disease care, MASK (Mobile Airways Sentinel NetworK), a new project of the ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma) initiative, and POLLAR (Impact of Air POLLution on Asthma and Rhinitis, EIT Health), in collaboration with professional and patient organizations in the field of allergy and airway diseases, are proposing real-life ICPs centred around the patient with rhinitis, and using mHealth to monitor environmental exposure. Three aspects of care pathways are being developed: (i) Patient participation, health literacy and self-care through technology-assisted "patient activation", (ii) Implementation of care pathways by pharmacists and (iii) Next-generation guidelines assessing the recommendations of GRADE guidelines in rhinitis and asthma using real-world evidence (RWE) obtained through mobile technology. The EU and global political agendas are of great importance in supporting the digital transformation of health and care, and MASK has been recognized by DG Sante as a Good Practice in the field of digitally-enabled, integrated, person-centred care. Conclusion: In 20 years, ARIA has considerably evolved from the first multimorbidity guideline in respiratory diseases to the digital transformation of health and care with a strong political involvement.

  • Identification of four novel susceptibility loci for oestrogen receptor negative breast cancer
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2041-1723. ; 7:11375, s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Common variants in 94 loci have been associated with breast cancer including 15 loci with genome-wide significant associations (P<5 x 10(-8)) with oestrogen receptor (ER)-negative breast cancer and BRCA1-associated breast cancer risk. In this study, to identify new ER-negative susceptibility loci, we performed a meta-analysis of 11 genome-wide association studies (GWAS) consisting of 4,939 ER-negative cases and 14,352 controls, combined with 7,333 ER-negative cases and 42,468 controls and 15,252 BRCA1 mutation carriers genotyped on the iCOGS array. We identify four previously unidentified loci including two loci at 13q22 near KLF5, a 2p23.2 locus near WDR43 and a 2q33 locus near PPIL3 that display genome-wide significant associations with ER-negative breast cancer. In addition, 19 known breast cancer risk loci have genome-wide significant associations and 40 had moderate associations (P<0.05) with ER-negative disease. Using functional and eQTL studies we implicate TRMT61B and WDR43 at 2p23.2 and PPIL3 at 2q33 in ER-negative breast cancer aetiology. All ER-negative loci combined account for similar to 11% of familial relative risk for ER-negative disease and may contribute to improved ER-negative and BRCA1 breast cancer risk prediction.

  • Analysis of five chronic inflammatory diseases identifies 27 new associations and highlights disease-specific patterns at shared loci
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nature Genetics. - New York, USA : Nature Publishing Group. - 1061-4036 .- 1546-1718. ; 48:5, s. 510-518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We simultaneously investigated the genetic landscape of ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, psoriasis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and ulcerative colitis to investigate pleiotropy and the relationship between these clinically related diseases. Using high-density genotype data from more than 86,000 individuals of European ancestry, we identified 244 independent multidisease signals, including 27 new genome-wide significant susceptibility loci and 3 unreported shared risk loci. Complex pleiotropy was supported when contrasting multidisease signals with expression data sets from human, rat and mouse together with epigenetic and expressed enhancer profiles. The comorbidities among the five immune diseases were best explained by biological pleiotropy rather than heterogeneity (a subgroup of cases genetically identical to those with another disease, possibly owing to diagnostic misclassification, molecular subtypes or excessive comorbidity). In particular, the strong comorbidity between primary sclerosing cholangitis and inflammatory bowel disease is likely the result of a unique disease, which is genetically distinct from classical inflammatory bowel disease phenotypes.

  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The concluding study offers reflections and a synthetic analysis of all the studies in the casebook, presented from the perspective of a "first reader". The pattern of external factors, editorial challenges, methodologies and forms of presentation is discussed. It offers an interpretation of how the body of case studies manifest a wide spectrum of methodologies. The case studies are categorized through two suggested models, one expressed as a map of varieties of editions produced using different methods and approaches; the other as a hermeneutic editorial circle revolving around four interrelated factors every editor has to take into consideration. The map sets out to clarify the editorial task, while the editorial circle problematizes it by bringing into the equation experiential parameters often omitted in theoretical discussions.

  • Association Between Telomere Length and Risk of Cancer and Non-Neoplastic Diseases A Mendelian Randomization Study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: JAMA Oncology. - : American Medical Association. - 2374-2437 .- 2374-2445. ; 3:5, s. 636-651
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IMPORTANCE: The causal direction and magnitude of the association between telomere length and incidence of cancer and non-neoplastic diseases is uncertain owing to the susceptibility of observational studies to confounding and reverse causation. OBJECTIVE: To conduct a Mendelian randomization study, using germline genetic variants as instrumental variables, to appraise the causal relevance of telomere length for risk of cancer and non-neoplastic diseases. DATA SOURCES: Genomewide association studies (GWAS) published up to January 15, 2015. STUDY SELECTION: GWAS of noncommunicable diseases that assayed germline genetic variation and did not select cohort or control participants on the basis of preexisting diseases. Of 163 GWAS of noncommunicable diseases identified, summary data from 103 were available. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: Summary association statistics for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are strongly associated with telomere length in the general population. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for disease per standard deviation (SD) higher telomere length due to germline genetic variation. RESULTS: Summary data were available for 35 cancers and 48 non-neoplastic diseases, corresponding to 420 081 cases (median cases, 2526 per disease) and 1 093 105 controls (median, 6789 per disease). Increased telomere length due to germline genetic variation was generally associated with increased risk for site-specific cancers. The strongest associations (ORs [ 95% CIs] per 1-SD change in genetically increased telomere length) were observed for glioma, 5.27 (3.15-8.81); serous low-malignant-potential ovarian cancer, 4.35 (2.39-7.94); lung adenocarcinoma, 3.19 (2.40-4.22); neuroblastoma, 2.98 (1.92-4.62); bladder cancer, 2.19 (1.32-3.66); melanoma, 1.87 (1.55-2.26); testicular cancer, 1.76 (1.02-3.04); kidney cancer, 1.55 (1.08-2.23); and endometrial cancer, 1.31 (1.07-1.61). Associations were stronger for rarer cancers and at tissue sites with lower rates of stem cell division. There was generally little evidence of association between genetically increased telomere length and risk of psychiatric, autoimmune, inflammatory, diabetic, and other non-neoplastic diseases, except for coronary heart disease (OR, 0.78 [ 95% CI, 0.67-0.90]), abdominal aortic aneurysm (OR, 0.63 [ 95% CI, 0.49-0.81]), celiac disease (OR, 0.42 [ 95% CI, 0.28-0.61]) and interstitial lung disease (OR, 0.09 [ 95% CI, 0.05-0.15]). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: It is likely that longer telomeres increase risk for several cancers but reduce risk for some non-neoplastic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Water Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0043-1354 .- 1879-2448. ; 97, s. 122-132
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 114 lakes treated with aluminum (Al) salts to reduce internal phosphorus (P) loading were analyzed to identify factors driving longevity of post-treatment water quality improvements. Lakes varied greatly in morphology, applied Al dose, and other factors that may have affected overall treatment effectiveness. Treatment longevity based on declines in epilimnetic total P (TP) concentration averaged 11 years for all lakes (range of 0-45 years). When longevity estimates were used for lakes with improved conditions through the end of measurements, average longevity increased to 15 years. Significant differences in treatment longevity between deeper, stratified lakes (mean 21 years) and shallow, polymictic lakes (mean 5.7 years) were detected, indicating factors related to lake morphology are important for treatment success. A decision tree developed using a partition model suggested Al dose, Osgood index (01, a morphological index), and watershed to lake area ratio (related to hydraulic residence time, WA:LA) were the most important variables determining treatment longevity. Multiple linear regression showed that Al dose, WA:LA, and 01 explained 47, 32 and 3% respectively of the variation in treatment longevity. Other variables (too data limited to include in the analysis) also appeared to be of importance, including sediment P content to Al dose ratios and the presence of benthic feeding fish in shallow, polymictic lakes.

    • The Lectionarium Placentinum contains in its Sanctorale (Piacenza,Bibl. Capitolare 62) two unknown sermons ascribed to Augustine, one of which is assigned tothe feast of the four Roman martyrs Basilides, Cyrinus, Nabor and Nazarius (f. 141-143r, inc.:Beati martyres ut securi), the other one on Peter’s walking on the sea (f. 182-182v, inc.: Nulluspotest esse securus navigator). In this joint study, we provide a critical edition and examinetheir authenticity. As a result, the sermon on the martyrs is proved authentic (Augustine, Sermo335N), the other one certainly spurious. In addition, a previously neglected fragment quoted inAmbrosius Autpertus’ Sermo de Mathia can be assigned to Augustine as well (Augustine, Sermo112B).

    • Recycling appears an appropriateterm to describe a large part of pre-modernliterary activities in Latin and Greek. The subject of the paper is the recycling of fables of the Roman poet Phaedrus, who translated prose fables of the Greek author Aesop into Latin verse. As examples of this literary process are investigated the post-millennial collections of the abbot Ademar of Chabannes(ca. 1030) and the Dominican monk Vincent of Beauvais in his encyclopaedic work Speculum maius (1247-1259). To illustrate recycling of single fables, some medieval versions of Phaedrus III.12 'Pullus ad margaritam' and Phaedrus I.1 'Lupus et agnus' are analysed.

    • Pope Gregory the Great is one of the prominent Christian authors transmitted in the medieval manuscripts in the Biblioteca Capitolare in Piacenza. Among the 84 codices in this library one of the oldest contains his Regula pastoralis and another from c. 1215 the Moralia in Iob, but his authorship is especially represented in the twelfth-century sources for the celebration of both the mass and the divine office of the episcopal liturgy, revised in the wake of the Gregorian reform in the late 1070s.In my contribution I analyse some mass chants in the Graduale part of the liturgical totum codex 65 from 1142, also known as the Liber magistri, e.g. the non-biblical introit antiphon Gaudeamus in domino which Gregory is said to have composed for the re-dedication of the former Arian church Agatha dei Gothi in Rome in 592, and the texts for the celebration of his feast-day on March 12, as well as various aspects of the liturgical use and reception of a large number of his homilies, especially the Homiliae in Euangelia, and some of the hagiographical texts from his Dialogi that had been selected and assigned as lessons in the full lectionary for the divine office.

Afterwards Hugo composed De sancto et immortali Deo to present the dogmatics of the Western church in both Greek and Latin, and sent the opus to pope Alexander in Rome and to the patriarch in Antioch. The accompanying letters and well as the treatise itself contain a number of attacks on the Greek theologians of the Byzantine period.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As exegesis of the Gospel readings, sermons, homelies and tractatus of the church fathers play an important pastoral part in the medieval mass. Moreover, such texts appear as lessons to be read at Matins of the divine office like they do in the 12th century Lectionarium Placentinum. A presentation of the two parts of this medieval lectionary (Temporale and Sanctorale) made for the cathedral of Piacenza as well as its contents of feasts, saints and texts for the liturgical year. The main focus will be on the Temporale with its more than 140 feasts with Gospel incipits and ca. 335 texts, the major part of which is attributed to the Big Four: Ambrose, Augustine, Leo Magnus and Gregory the Great. The second focus on the ca. 140 texts attributed to Augustine. Various authentic sermons and selected parts of tractatus in euangelium Iohannis constitute the major part of Augustine’s ”contribution” to the Temporale, but of greater interest for the conference will probably be the ones attributed to Augustine but now considered to be written by others and the ones attributed to other authors but now considered to be Augustinian texts. Finally, I present some texts attributed to Augustine which I have not been able to identify yet.

  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics, Conference Series. - : IOP Science. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 211:1, s. 012030-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the characterization of the new I1011 beamline at the MAX-II storage ring, in the MAX-lab synchrotron radiation laboratory and give examples of first results. This beamline is using an Elliptically Polarizing Undulator source, producing soft x-rays of a variable polarization state. It delivers high flux and high brightness circularly polarized x-rays in the energy range 0.2 to 1.7 keV, covering the L-edges of the late 3d elements. The new beamline will operate with an octupole magnet endstation. It is specially engineered to solve the problem of the limited optical access typically associated with magnetic fields and synchrotron radiation endstations. Eight water-cooled magnets allow the application of the magnetic field of up to 1 T in any direction. X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray resonant reflectivity and the corresponding magnetic variants, i.e., XMCD, XMLD and XRMS experiments are possible also under an applied magnetic field. The high flux allows working with dilute magnetic systems such as ultra-thin films and nano structures.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Synchrotron Radiation. - 1600-5775. ; 23:Pt 5, s. 1076-1081
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The vibrational stability of a horizontally deflecting double-crystal monochromator (HDCM) is investigated. Inherently a HDCM will preserve the vertical beam stability better than a `normal' vertical double-crystal monochromator as the vibrations of a HDCM will almost exclusively affect the horizontal stability. Here both the relative pitch vibration between the first and second crystal and the absolute pitch vibration of the second crystal are measured. All reported measurements are obtained under active cooling by means of flowing liquid nitrogen (LN2). It is found that it is favorable to circulate the LN2 at high pressures and low flow rates (up to 5.9 bar and down to 3 l min(-1) is tested) to attain low vibrations. An absolute pitch stability of the second crystal of 18 nrad RMS, 2-2500 Hz, and a relative pitch stability between the two crystals of 25 nrad RMS, 1-2500 Hz, is obtained under cryocooling conditions that allow for 1516 W to be adsorbed by the LN2 before it vaporizes.

  • Lectionarium Placentinum. Sanctorale : Vol. 3, Pars prima : edition of a twelfth century lectionary for the divine office
  • 2018
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Lectionarium Placentinum is contained in four parchment manuscripts, Piacenza, Biblioteca Capitolare codices 60-63, which have been dated to the second half of the twelfth century and form part of a collection of liturgical manuscripts produced in that period. The lectionary is divided in two parts, each consisting of two manuscripts: the Temporale contained in Pia 61-60, and the Sanctorale in Pia 62- 63. The four manuscripts contain around 250 Gospel incipits and 700 texts. While the majority of the texts in the Temporale are sermons written by Ambrose of Milan, Augustine of Hippo and the popes Leo the Great and Gregory the Great, the major part of the texts in the Sanctorale are anonymous saints’ vitae and passion stories. Like the Temporale edition, the Sanctorale edition is divided in two volumes, the first including an introduction to hagiography, a description of the manuscripts and their contents, and the second an inventory, bibliography and indices. The first part of the edition covers the period from Stephen protomartyr (December 26) to Bishop Germanus (July 31) and the second part the period from Peter in Chains (August 1) to Victoria (December 23). Both parts moreover contain an appropriate commune sanctorum section. The lectionary provides information on the reception and liturgical use of texts of the patristic and early medieval church fathers in the twelfth century and presents an instrument for further studies to scholars in various fields of research. The edition might be a useful tool to liturgists investigating the contents and structure of the medieval office as well as to scholars investigating and/or analysing the Latin language, liturgical literature, biblical exegesis and commentaries, theology, hagiography, history of ideas and mentality, as well as Latin translations of Greek texts.

  • BB rat Gimap gene expression in sorted lymphoid T and B cells
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Life Sciences. - : Elsevier BV. - 1879-0631 .- 0024-3205. ; 89:19-20, s. 748-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: The Gimap gene family has been shown to be integral to T cell survival and development. A frameshift mutation in Gimap5, one of seven members of the Gimap family, results in lymphopenia and is a prerequisite for spontaneous type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the BioBreeding (BB) rat. While not contributing to lymphopenia, the Gimap family members proximal to Gimap5, encompassed within the Iddm39 quantitative trait locus (QTL), have been implicated in T1D. We hypothesized that expression of the Gimap family members within the Iddm39 QTL, during thymocyte development as well as in peripheral T and B cells contribute to T1D. Main methods: Cell sorted subpopulations were analyzed by quantitative real time (qRT) PCR. Key findings: Gimap4 expression was reduced in DR.(lyp/lyp) rat double negative, double positive and CD8 single positive (SP) thymocytes while expression of Gimap8, Gimap6, and Gimap7 was reduced only in CD8 SP thymocytes. Interestingly, expression of the entire Gimap gene family was reduced in DR.(lyp/lyp) rat peripheral T cells compared to non-lymphopenic, non-diabetic DR.(+/+) rats. With the exception of Gimap6. the Gimap family genes were not expressed in B cells from spleen and mesenteric lymph node (MLN). Expression of Gimap9 was only detected in hematopoietic cells of non B cell lineage such as macrophage, dendritic or NK cells. Significance: These results suggest that lack of the Gimap5 protein in the DR.(lyp/lyp) congenic rat was associated with impaired expression of the entire family of Gimap genes and may regulate T cell homeostasis in the peripheral lymphoid organs.
