- The 1962 Missile Crisis is a well-known episode of the Cold War and twentieth-century history. It is documented in a wide variety of sources, and it has been the subject of extensive historical research. But what remains today of the missile sites that once were a focus of world interest? What does a World Crisis in ruin look like? In order to find new ways of looking at the Crisis we conducted archaeological fieldwork, looking for memories in the ground as well as in people's minds. The pictorial results of our efforts are presented in this book.

- Background: The genes caspase-8 (CASP8) and caspase-10 (CASP10) functionally cooperate and play a key role in the initiation of apoptosis. Suppression of apoptosis is one of the major mechanisms underlying the origin and progression of cancer. Previous case-control studies have indicated that the polymorphisms CASP8 D302H and CASP10 V410I are associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer in the general population.Methods: To evaluate whether the CASP8 D302H (CASP10 V410I) polymorphisms modify breast or ovarian cancer risk in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers, we analyzed 7,353 (7,227) subjects of white European origin provided by 19 (18) study groups that participate in the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 (CIMBA). A weighted cohort approach was used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).Results: The minor allele of CASP8 D302H was significantly associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer (per-allele HR, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.76-0.97; Ptrend = 0.011) and ovarian cancer (per-allele HR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.53-0.89; Ptrend = 0.004) for BRCA1 but not for BRCA2 mutation carriers. The CASP10 V410I polymorphism was not associated with breast or ovarian cancer risk for BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation carriers.Conclusions: CASP8 D302H decreases breast and ovarian cancer risk for BRCA1 mutation carriers but not for BRCA2 mutation carriers.Impact: The combined application of these and other recently identified genetic riskmodifiers could in the future allow better individual risk calculation and could aid in the individualized counseling and decision making with respect to preventive options in BRCA1 mutation carriers.

- It is shown that the queuing delay involved in the congestion control algorithm is state-dependent and does not depend on the current time. Then, using an accurate formulation for buffers, networks with arbitrary topologies can be built. At equilibrium, our model reduces to the widely used setup by Paganini et al. Using this model, the delay-derivative is analyzed and it is proved that the delay time-derivative does not exceed one for the considered topologies. It is then shown that the considered congestion control algorithm globally stabilizes a delay-free single buffer network. Finally, using a specific linearization result for systems with state-dependent delays from Cooke and Huang, we show the local stability of the single bottleneck network.

- Half a century ago – in October 1962 – the world was on the threshold to the unthinkable: a full-scale nuclear war between the USA and the Soviet Union. The focus of the conflict was a number of Soviet launching sites for medium-range missiles situated in the Cuban countryside. Today, at first glance it is difficult to discover traces at these sites that testify to their important role in twentieth-century history. A closer look, however, reveals not only material remains but also an extensive, peaceful reuse of elements from the former military installations. This photo-essay presents some of the material evidence found during archaeological fieldwork at the missile site at Santa Cruz de los Pinos, also known as San Cristobal 3, situated c. 100 kilometres west of Havana.

- This article present the reader with an overview of a contemporary archaeology project approaching the “Missile Crisis” (1962), and more specifically the former Soviet nuclear missile base at Santa Cruz de los Pinos, Cuba. The project is a cooperation between Swedish and Cuban historians, anthropologists and archaeologists and it shows that it is possible to complement the meta-narrative of the crisis with material and immaterial remains and memories in a manner where the crisis is approached and explained “from below”. The project has also developed into to a study of how the cultural heritage of the former missile base at Santa Cruz de los Pinos can be used by the local museum in San Cristóbal to foster a sustainable development at the local level since the public in various ways are invited to participate in the development of this cultural heritage.

Low Prevalence of Transmitted Drug Resistance in Patients Newly Diagnosed with HIV-1 Infection in Sweden 2003-2010.

- Transmitted drug resistance (TDR) is a clinical and epidemiological problem because it may contribute to failure of antiretroviral treatment. The prevalence of TDR varies geographically, and its prevalence in Sweden during the last decade has not been reported. Plasma samples from 1,463 patients newly diagnosed with HIV-1 infection between 2003 and 2010, representing 44% of all patients diagnosed in Sweden during this period, were analyzed using the WHO 2009 list of mutations for surveillance of TDR. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses were used to determine genetic subtype and to investigate the relatedness of the sequences. Eighty-two patients showed evidence of TDR, representing a prevalence of 5.6% (95% CI: 4.5%-6.9%) without any significant time trends or differences between patients infected in Sweden or abroad. Multivariable logistic regression showed that TDR was positively associated with men who have sex with men (MSM) and subtype B infection and negatively associated with CD4 cell counts. Among patients with TDR, 54 (68%) had single resistance mutations, whereas five patients had multi-drug resistant HIV-1. Phylogenetic analyses identified nine significantly supported clusters involving 29 of the patients with TDR, including 23 of 42 (55%) of the patients with TDR acquired in Sweden. One cluster contained 18 viruses with a M41L resistance mutation, which had spread among MSM in Stockholm over a period of at least 16 years (1994-2010). Another cluster, which contained the five multidrug resistant viruses, also involved MSM from Stockholm. The prevalence of TDR in Sweden 2003-2010 was lower than in many other European countries. TDR was concentrated among MSM, where clustering of TDR strains was observed, which highlights the need for continued and improved measures for targeted interventions.

- This book studies and discusses questions concerning authenticity, staging and public communication at eight World Heritage classified rock art sites from different parts of the world. Is is an empirically grounded comparative analysis of how the content of the concept of authenticity is materialized and put into practice at the sites studied. This book demonstrates how this materialization influences the public´s physical and imaginative access to the rock art as well as to the past. The authors also present a renewed attitude towards the concept of authenticity which they consider to be crucial for a constructive future relationship between heritage management and the public.
