- A Swedish data model for handling terminology, Spriterm, is presented in this paper. A prototype terminology management system, using the Spriterm data model in also described. This prototype is implemented is Microsoft ACCESS. Furthermore, two other applications using this prototype as a base are introduced. One World Wide Web based application, and a data dictionary.

- There is an obvious need for geographic distribution of expert knowledge among several health care units without increasing the cost of on-site expertise in locations where health care is provided. This paper describes the design of a knowledge-based decision-support system for extended consultation in clinical medicine. The system is based on Arden Syntax for Medical Logic Modules and hypertext using World Wide Web technology. It provides advice and explanations regarding the given advice. The explanations are presented in a hypertext format allowing the user to browse related information and to verify the relevance of the given advice. The system is intended to be used in a closed local network. With special precautions regarding issues of safety and patient security, the system can be used over wider areas such as in rural medicine. A prototype has been developed in the field of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases regarding infective endocarditis.

- The overall purpose of this thesis is to make a critical analysis of the criteria problem inherent in stakeholder evaluation, especially the problem of how to select different criteria in a situation of rapid political change and conflict among different stakeholder groups in the programme context. The aim is also to make a critical examination of the possibilities for a fair and just evaluation of official educational and social programmes.The study is composed of four sections. In the first section the research problem and the aims of the study are introduced. Then the theoretical basis of the study and the connection with the theories of evaluation are discussed. The second section of the thesis contains a deeper analysis of political changes in society and an examination of the circumstances and development lines of the evaluation and the stakeholder evaluation.In the third section the case study and an analysis of different judgement criteria and conflicts of the interest groups are presented. The fourth section contains a discussion of strategies for handling the problems emerging in the shape of general criteria, e.g. social justice, or of contextual equity criteria. Possibilities for a powerffee dialogue between the interest groups, in order to agree upon certain common criteria, are examined in a critical way. How different judgements can be structured together by consensus is analysed from a cognitive and an action-oriented perspective. At the end, some reflections are done about the stakeholder evaluation, its political dimensions and the connections between evaluation theory and political philosopy and political theory.The thesis shows that evaluation of official programmes places the evaluation in the centre of a political context with different stakeholder groups and conflicts. The thesis makes clear that a more explicit perspective of political theory could be a constructive way forward for the further development of evaluation theory.

Passive suspension feeding in Amphiura filiformis (Echinodermata: Ophiuroidea): Feeding behaviour in flume flow and potential feeding rate of field populations

- Experimental studies in a laboratory flume show that the sediment-living brittle-star Amphiura filiformis captures suspended particles. Feeding activity is a function of now velocity with few animals extending feeding arms in still water. Flow velocity also affects the orientation of feeding arms, and we suggest that this orientation is partly controlled by A. filiformis. By combining field measurements of current velocity and seston concentration with morphometrics and filtration models, a theoretical encounter rate of suspended particles was calculated for A. filiformis. In terms of organic content, A. filiformis can potentially balance growth and respiration with ingested seston although balance will strongly depend on retention efficiency and particle quality. Detailed measurements of flow around feeding arms revealed complex now patterns that will limit the applicability of available models of food encounter for passive suspension feeders, but our sensitivity analysis indicates that suspended aggregates may be especially important in the nutrition of this species.
