Comparison between Pirata tenuitarsis Simon, new to Sweden and England, and P. piraticus (Clerck), with notes on taxonomic characters in male Pirata (Araneae: Lycosidae)

• Characters are presented for separating the closely allied Pirata tenuitarsis and P. piraticus in connection with the former being reported for the first time from Sweden and England. The terminal part of the male bulbus in the six Pirata species known from Sweden is examined and its configuration found to be of taxonomic importance. The shape of the apophysis of the terminal part and of the embolus has not previously been studied in the genus.
