  • Selection of maintenance strategy for mechanized and automated systems using risk analysis
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Proceedings from 5th International Symposium on Mine Mechanization and Automation, Laurentian Univ. Sudbury, CANADA, JUNE 99.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Taking decision concerning selection of maintenance strategy using risk based criteria is essential to develop cost effective maintenance policies for mechanized and automated systems because in this approach technical features (such as reliability & maintainability characteristics) are analyzed considering economic and safety consequences of each alternative at hand. This approach also provides a holistic view of the various decision scenario concerning maintenance strategy where cost consequences of every possible solution can be assessed quantitatively. It is very important that formal reliability and risk assessment form an integral part of the maintenance planning and control process. This paper emphasizes the need of integration of risk analysis methods in all phases of conception, design manufacturing and operation to arrive at the most optimal maintenance policies/strategies for the system under consideration. The paper also discusses various steps involved in risk analysis and concludes that the risk assessment can be used in many activities related to maintenance for arriving at the best decision among the several alternatives available at hand.

  • Maintenance management for modern mining equipment
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels. - 0022-2755. ; 44:1, s. 25-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The old concept that maintenance is a necessary evil which costs what it costs is no longer valid and most of the leading mining companies are realising that the path to progress and success lies through integrating maintenance fully into the total business system of the company. The increasing scales of operation, the bigger-the better concept of mega sized equipment and the total integration of various processes and unit operations have given a new dimension to the problem of maintenance. Currently, many mining companies are shedding the traditional maintenance management styles in preference to the modern concept of the need based maintenance strategies where the concept of total productive maintenance (TPM) and that of reliability centered maintenance (RCM) are integrated. The mining industry all over the world with a few exceptions is still in transition phase as far as the question of maintenance management for large, complex and integrated systems in the mining industry is concerned. This paper reviews the recent trends and discusses some of the changes that are occurring in the area of maintenance of modern mining machinery and systems

  • Maintenance strategies for mechanized and automated mining systems : a reliability and risk analysis based approach
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels. - 0022-2755. ; 46:11, s. 343-347, 354
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of maintenance is to reduce business risk. In view of this, it is important that formal reliability and risk assessment form an integral part of the maintenance planning and control process. This article emphasizes the need of integration of risk analysis methods in all phases of conception, design, manufacturing and operation to arrive at the most optimal maintenance policies/strategies for the system under consideration. It also discusses various steps involved in risk analysis and concludes that the risk assessment can be used in many activities related to maintenance for arriving at the best decision among the several alternatives available at hand.

  • Study of problems caused by oversized boulders in a mine production system: A case study
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Environment. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1389-5265 .- 1744-5000. ; 11:2, s. 69-73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to present a study that deals with the problem of oversized boulders in a mine production system. This work was performed to study and analyze the disturbances caused by oversized boulders and estimate their impact on the production system at the LKAB Kiruna Iron Ore Mine, Kiruna (KIOM). The results from this study show that by elimination of oversized boulders from the production process, the production capacity and system utilization of a mine like KIOM can be considerably improved.
