  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings 2015 IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision Workshops ICCVW 2015. - : IEEE. - 9780769557205 ; , s. 564-586
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge 2015, VOT2015, aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. Results of 62 trackers are presented. The number of tested trackers makes VOT 2015 the largest benchmark on short-term tracking to date. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the appendix. Features of the VOT2015 challenge that go beyond its VOT2014 predecessor are: (i) a new VOT2015 dataset twice as large as in VOT2014 with full annotation of targets by rotated bounding boxes and per-frame attribute, (ii) extensions of the VOT2014 evaluation methodology by introduction of a new performance measure. The dataset, the evaluation kit as well as the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2016 aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. Results of 70 trackers are presented, with a large number of trackers being published at major computer vision conferences and journals in the recent years. The number of tested state-of-the-art trackers makes the VOT 2016 the largest and most challenging benchmark on short-term tracking to date. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the Appendix. The VOT2016 goes beyond its predecessors by (i) introducing a new semi-automatic ground truth bounding box annotation methodology and (ii) extending the evaluation system with the no-reset experiment.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Computer Vision – ECCV 2016 Workshops. ECCV 2016.. - Cham : SPRINGER INT PUBLISHING AG. - 9783319488813 - 9783319488806 ; , s. 824-849
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Thermal Infrared Visual Object Tracking challenge 2016, VOT-TIR2016, aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that work on thermal infrared (TIR) sequences and do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. VOT-TIR2016 is the second benchmark on short-term tracking in TIR sequences. Results of 24 trackers are presented. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the appendix. The VOT-TIR2016 challenge is similar to the 2015 challenge, the main difference is the introduction of new, more difficult sequences into the dataset. Furthermore, VOT-TIR2016 evaluation adopted the improvements regarding overlap calculation in VOT2016. Compared to VOT-TIR2015, a significant general improvement of results has been observed, which partly compensate for the more difficult sequences. The dataset, the evaluation kit, as well as the results are publicly available at the challenge website.

  • Interethnic analyses of blood pressure loci in populations of East Asian and European descent
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Nature. - 2041-1723. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Blood pressure (BP) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and more than 200 genetic loci associated with BP are known. Here, we perform a multi-stage genome-wide association study for BP (max N = 289,038) principally in East Asians and meta-analysis in East Asians and Europeans. We report 19 new genetic loci and ancestry-specific BP variants, conforming to a common ancestry-specific variant association model. At 10 unique loci, distinct non-rare ancestry-specific variants colocalize within the same linkage disequilibrium block despite the significantly discordant effects for the proxy shared variants between the ethnic groups. The genome-wide transethnic correlation of causal-variant effect-sizes is 0.898 and 0.851 for systolic and diastolic BP, respectively. Some of the ancestry-specific association signals are also influenced by a selective sweep. Our results provide new evidence for the role of common ancestry-specific variants and natural selection in ethnic differences in complex traits such as BP.

  • Multiancestry Genome-Wide Association Study of Lipid Levels Incorporating Gene-Alcohol Interactions
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: American Journal of Epidemiology. - : Oxford University Press. - 0002-9262 .- 1476-6256. ; 188:6, s. 1033-1054
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A person's lipid profile is influenced by genetic variants and alcohol consumption, but the contribution of interactions between these exposures has not been studied. We therefore incorporated gene-alcohol interactions into a multiancestry genome-wide association study of levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides. We included 45 studies in stage 1 (genome-wide discovery) and 66 studies in stage 2 (focused follow-up), for a total of 394,584 individuals from 5 ancestry groups. Analyses covered the period July 2014-November 2017. Genetic main effects and interaction effects were jointly assessed by means of a 2-degrees-of-freedom (df) test, and a 1-df test was used to assess the interaction effects alone. Variants at 495 loci were at least suggestively associated (P < 1 x 10(-6)) with lipid levels in stage 1 and were evaluated in stage 2, followed by combined analyses of stage 1 and stage 2. In the combined analysis of stages 1 and 2, a total of 147 independent loci were associated with lipid levels at P < 5 x 10(-8) using 2-df tests, of which 18 were novel. No genome-wide-significant associations were found testing the interaction effect alone. The novel loci included several genes (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 5 (PCSK5), vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGFB), and apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide 1 (APOBEC1) complementation factor (A1CF)) that have a putative role in lipid metabolism on the basis of existing evidence from cellular and experimental models.

  • Novel genetic associations for blood pressure identified via gene-alcohol interaction in up to 570K individuals across multiple ancestries
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: PLOS ONE. - : Public library science. - 1932-6203. ; 13:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heavy alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for hypertension; the mechanism by which alcohol consumption impact blood pressure (BP) regulation remains unknown. We hypothesized that a genome-wide association study accounting for gene-alcohol consumption interaction for BP might identify additional BP loci and contribute to the understanding of alcohol-related BP regulation. We conducted a large two-stage investigation incorporating joint testing of main genetic effects and single nucleotide variant (SNV)-alcohol consumption interactions. In Stage 1, genome-wide discovery meta-analyses in approximate to 131 K individuals across several ancestry groups yielded 3,514 SNVs (245 loci) with suggestive evidence of association (P <1.0 x 10(-5)). In Stage 2, these SNVs were tested for independent external replication in individuals across multiple ancestries. We identified and replicated (at Bonferroni correction threshold) five novel BP loci (380 SNVs in 21 genes) and 49 previously reported BP loci (2,159 SNVs in 109 genes) in European ancestry, and in multi-ancestry meta-analyses (P < 5.0 x 10(-8)). For African ancestry samples, we detected 18 potentially novel BP loci (P< 5.0 x 10(-8)) in Stage 1 that warrant further replication. Additionally, correlated meta-analysis identified eight novel BP loci (11 genes). Several genes in these loci (e.g., PINX1, GATA4, BLK, FTO and GABBR2 have been previously reported to be associated with alcohol consumption. These findings provide insights into the role of alcohol consumption in the genetic architecture of hypertension.

  • Stable and bright formamidinium-based perovskite light-emitting diodes with high energy conversion efficiency
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2041-1723. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solution-processable perovskites show highly emissive and good charge transport, making them attractive for low-cost light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with high energy conversion efficiencies. Despite recent advances in device efficiency, the stability of perovskite LEDs is still a major obstacle. Here, we demonstrate stable and bright perovskite LEDs with high energy conversion efficiencies by optimizing formamidinium lead iodide films. Our LEDs show an energy conversion efficiency of 10.7%, and an external quantum efficiency of 14.2% without outcoupling enhancement through controlling the concentration of the precursor solutions. The device shows low efficiency droop, i.e. 8.3% energy conversion efficiency and 14.0% external quantum efficiency at a current density of 300 mA cm(-2), making the device more efficient than state-of-the-art organic and quantum-dot LEDs at high current densities. Furthermore, the half-lifetime of device with benzylamine treatment is 23.7 hr under a current density of 100 mA cm(-2), comparable to the lifetime of near-infrared organic LEDs.

  • A multi-ancestry genome-wide study incorporating gene-smoking interactions identifies multiple new loci for pulse pressure and mean arterial pressure
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Human Molecular Genetics. - : Oxford University Press. - 0964-6906 .- 1460-2083. ; 28:15, s. 2615-2633
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Elevated blood pressure (BP), a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, is influenced by both genetic and lifestyle factors. Cigarette smoking is one such lifestyle factor. Across five ancestries, we performed a genome-wide gene–smoking interaction study of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and pulse pressure (PP) in 129 913 individuals in stage 1 and follow-up analysis in 480 178 additional individuals in stage 2. We report here 136 loci significantly associated with MAP and/or PP. Of these, 61 were previously published through main-effect analysis of BP traits, 37 were recently reported by us for systolic BP and/or diastolic BP through gene–smoking interaction analysis and 38 were newly identified (P < 5 × 10−8, false discovery rate < 0.05). We also identified nine new signals near known loci. Of the 136 loci, 8 showed significant interaction with smoking status. They include CSMD1 previously reported for insulin resistance and BP in the spontaneously hypertensive rats. Many of the 38 new loci show biologic plausibility for a role in BP regulation. SLC26A7 encodes a chloride/bicarbonate exchanger expressed in the renal outer medullary collecting duct. AVPR1A is widely expressed, including in vascular smooth muscle cells, kidney, myocardium and brain. FHAD1 is a long non-coding RNA overexpressed in heart failure. TMEM51 was associated with contractile function in cardiomyocytes. CASP9 plays a central role in cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Identified only in African ancestry were 30 novel loci. Our findings highlight the value of multi-ancestry investigations, particularly in studies of interaction with lifestyle factors, where genomic and lifestyle differences may contribute to novel findings.

  • Inhomogeneous degradation in metal halide perovskites
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AMER INST PHYSICS. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 111:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although the rapid development of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite solar cells has led to certified power conversion efficiencies of above 20%, their poor stability remains a major challenge, preventing their practical commercialization. In this paper, we investigate the intrinsic origin of the poor stability in perovskite solar cells by using a confocal fluorescence microscope. We find that the degradation of perovskite films starts from grain boundaries and gradually extend to the center of the grains. Firmly based on our findings, we further demonstrate that the device stability can be significantly enhanced by increasing the grain size of perovskite crystals. Our results have important implications to further enhance the stability of optoelectronic devices based on metal halide perovskites. Published by AIP Publishing.

  • Minimising efficiency roll-off in high-brightness perovskite light-emitting diodes
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : NATURE PUBLISHING GROUP. - 2041-1723. ; 9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Efficiency roll-off is a major issue for most types of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and its origins remain controversial. Here we present investigations of the efficiency roll-off in perovskite LEDs based on two-dimensional layered perovskites. By simultaneously measuring electroluminescence and photoluminescence on a working device, supported by transient photoluminescence decay measurements, we conclude that the efficiency roll-off in perovskite LEDs is mainly due to luminescence quenching which is likely caused by non-radiative Auger recombination. This detrimental effect can be suppressed by increasing the width of quantum wells, which can be easily realized in the layered perovskites by tuning the ratio of large and small organic cations in the precursor solution. This approach leads to the realization of a perovskite LED with a record external quantum efficiency of 12.7%, and the efficiency remains to be high, at approximately 10%, under a high current density of 500 mA cm(-2).

  • Extremal Union-Closed Set Families
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Graphs and Combinatorics. - : Springer Japan. - 0911-0119 .- 1435-5914. ; 35:6, s. 1495-1502
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A family of finite sets is called union-closed if it contains the union of any two sets in it. The Union-Closed Sets Conjecture of Frankl from 1979 states that each union-closed family contains an element that belongs to at least half of the members of the family. In this paper, we study structural properties of union-closed families. It is known that under the inclusion relation, every union-closed family forms a lattice. We call two union-closed families isomorphic if their corresponding lattices are isomorphic. Let F be a union-closed family and boolean OR(F is an element of F) F be the universe of F. Among all union-closed families isomorphic to F, we develop an algorithm to find one with a maximum universe, and an algorithm to find one with a minimum universe. We also study properties of these two extremal union-closed families in connection with the Union-Closed Set Conjecture. More specifically, a lower bound of sizes of sets of a minimum counterexample to the dual version of the Union-Closed Sets Conjecture is obtained.

  • Pressure-Induced Structural and Electronic Transition in Sr2ZnWO6 Double Perovskite
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Inorganic Chemistry. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0020-1669 .- 1520-510X. ; 55:13, s. 6770-6775
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-pressure structural and electrical properties of Sr2ZnWO6 double perovskite were investigated using in situ angle-dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, and alternating current (AC) impedance spectroscopy. A structural transition from monoclinic (P2(1)/n) to triclinic (P (1) over bar) phase around 9 GPa was observed due to the pressure-induced distortion of (W, Zn)O-6 octahedron. In situ high-pressure Raman spectroscopy showed the increasing interaction among O-W-O in WO6 octahedron with pressure and a transition pressure consistent with the XRD results. From the AC impedance spectroscopy measurements, the resistivity increased steeply by similar to 1 order of magnitude around 11 GPa, indicating an electronic transition accompanying the symmetry change. The increase in the interaction among O-W-O enhances the attraction of O2- electrons toward W6+, thus increasing the covalence, which in turn lowers the charge transfer energy between O2- and W6+ and induces the resistivity increase under high pressure.

  • Structural and electronic phase transitions of Co2Te3O8 spiroffite under high pressure
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969. ; 99:24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structural and electronic phase transitions of Co2Te3O8 spiroffite have been studied with a suite of in situ high-pressure characterization techniques including synchrotron x-ray diffraction, Raman, x-ray emission spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption, and electrical transport measurement. Two pressure-induced phase transitions were observed at about 6.9 and 14.4 GPa. The first transition is attributed to a small spin transition of Co along with discontinuity in unit-cell volume change, while the second one represents a first-order phase transition with a volume collapse of 4.5%. The latter transition is accompanied by the relaxation of distortion in CoO6 octahedron, which enhances the crystal-field strength inhibiting the occurrence of spin transition. What is more, the competition between contributions of electrons and oxygen ion to the overall conductivity is observed and affected by the phase transition under high pressure. This demonstration provides insights into the relationship between the lattice-structural and spin degrees of freedom, and highlights the impact of pressure on the control of structural and electronic states of a given material for optimized functionalities.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Optical Materials Express. - : Optical Society of America. - 2159-3930 .- 2159-3930. ; 6:4, s. 1161-1171
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • UCNP-based drug delivery systems commonly rely on stimulisensitive auxiliaries, lacking a straightforward manipulation strategy. Here we designed Yb3+-enhanced upconversion/ mesoporous silica nanocomposites (UCNP@SiO2) for consecutive cell imaging, photothermal drug delivery and cancer therapy. Core UCNPs (NaYbF4: 2% Er3+) were synthesized and coated with mesoporous silica, whose high-efficiency photothermal properties were verified in vitro. Then doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) was loaded on the UCNP@SiO2 and successfully triggered to release by a 975 nm laser of 150 mW or 300 mW. Before the therapy, we used a much lower laser power of 15 mW (which would cause little DOX release) for UCNP-probed fluorescence imaging of Hela cells and affirmed a favorable cell uptake of nanocomposites. Subsequently, cell viability assay and PI stain have demonstrated that the 300 mW laser could manipulate drug delivery of UCNP@SiO2-DOX and cause a severe loss of cell viability. The Yb3+-enhanced UCNP@SiO2 shows a great potential in simultaneous biomedical imaging and photothermal-triggered on-site drug delivery for chemotherapy of cancer. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America

  • Deep, high contrast microscopic cell imaging using three-photon luminescence of beta-(NaYF4:Er3+/NaYF4) nanoprobe excited by 1480-nm CW laser of only 1.5-mW
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Optics Express. - 2156-7085. ; 6:5, s. 1857-1866
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is challenging to achieve deep microscopic imaging for the strong scattering in biotissue. An efficient three-photon luminescence can effectively increase the penetration depth. Here we report that beta-NaYF4: Er3+/NaYF4 UCNPs were excited by a 1480-nm CW-laser and emitted 543/653-nm light through a three-photon process. With the merit of the hexagonal crystal phase, sub-milliwatt laser power was utilized to excite the UCNP-probed cells to minimize the heating effect. The polymer-coated UCNPs were shown to be harmless to cells. The deep, high contrast in vitro microscopic imaging was implemented through an artificial phantom. Imaging depth of 800 mu m was achieved using only 1.5 mW excitation and a 0.7 NA objective. The green/red emission intensities ratio after penetrating the phantom was studied, indicating that longer emission wavelength is preferred for deep multiphoton microscopy. The proposed and demonstrated beta-UCNPs would have great potential in three-photon microscopy. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Optical Materials Express. - 2159-3930 .- 2159-3930. ; 5:8, s. 1759-1771
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) is a class of promising probes widely used in protein molecules imaging due to the no photobleaching and non-blinking emission. However, it is still remained challenging to synthesize a type of ultra-small but bright UCNPs. In this paper, a new class of efficient sub-5-nm upconversion nanodots (UCNDs) was elaborately designed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed uniform UCNDs comprise two parts: a 3.5-nm Ln(3+)-doped ZrO2 core and 0.5-nm NaYF4 shell. The emission intensity of the proposed UCNDs was measured to be more than 10 times brighter than that of the conventional 10-nm NaYF4 UCNPs. Under 300 kW.cm(-2) irradiance excitation, the 15 mol% Er3+-doped UCNDs exhibit an 18-fold enhanced intensity and one fifth emission lifetime compared to the 0.5 mol% Er3+-doped ones. Using the biocompatible UCNDs, the aptamer-mediated proteins-targeted imaging was performed and demonstrated high efficiency. These ultra-small, efficient UCNDs would have great potentials in rapid scanning and cellular imaging.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: RSC Advances. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2046-2069. ; 5:100, s. 81897-81904
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal nanoparticles (MNPs) can be used as a kind of new photodynamic therapy (PDT) agent because singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) can be generated through directly sensitizing MNPs. Gold nanorods, gold nanoshells and gold nanoechinus were confirmed to be efficient PDT agents in vivo. However, the major excitation spectra of O-1(2) from all of them are not in the optical biological window (650-900 nm). Herein, gold bipyramids (GBPs) with tunable absorption wavelength were prepared and used to explore O-1(2) generation capability. O-1(2) can be generated when GBPs were excited by continuous-wave light within a wide range of wavelengths (660-975 nm). The highest O-1(2) generation capabilities were obtained when they were excited at the wavelength of the absorption peak, which was quite different from those of other gold nanomaterials. It was also found that O-1(2) can be generated efficiently by a laser of very low power density (200 mW cm(-2)). The capability of GBPs for PDT has been demonstrated through the destruction of cancer cells. The synergistic effect of PDT and photothermal therapy for the destruction of cancer cells was also demonstrated.

  • Designed Er3+-singly doped NaYF4 with double excitation bands for simultaneous deep macroscopic and microscopic upconverting bioimaging
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Optics Express. - : OSA - The Optical Society. - 2156-7085. ; 7:6, s. 2174-2185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Simultaneous deep macroscopic imaging and microscopic imaging is in urgent demand, but is challenging to achieve experimentally due to the lack of proper fluorescent probes. Herein, we have designed and successfully synthesized simplex Er3+-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with double excitation bands for simultaneous deep macroscopic and microscopic imaging. The material structure and the excitation wavelength of Er3+-singly doped UCNPs were further optimized to enhance the upconversion emission efficiency. After optimization, we found that NaYF4:30% Er3+@NaYF4:2% Er3+ could simultaneously achieve efficient two-photon excitation (2PE) macroscopic tissue imaging and three-photon excitation (3PE) deep microscopic when excited by 808 nm continuous wave (CW) and 1480 nm CW lasers, respectively. In vitro cell imaging and in vivo imaging have also been implemented to demonstrate the feasibility and potential of the proposed simplex Er3+-doped UCNPs as bioprobe.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 30:51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Quasi-2D layered organometal halide perovskites have recently emerged as promising candidates for solar cells, because of their intrinsic stability compared to 3D analogs. However, relatively low power conversion efficiency (PCE) limits the application of 2D layered perovskites in photovoltaics, due to large energy band gap, high exciton binding energy, and poor interlayer charge transport. Here, efficient and water-stable quasi-2D perovskite solar cells with a peak PCE of 18.20% by using 3-bromobenzylammonium iodide are demonstrated. The unencapsulated devices sustain over 82% of their initial efficiency after 2400 h under relative humidity of approximate to 40%, and show almost unchanged photovoltaic parameters after immersion into water for 60 s. The robust performance of perovskite solar cells results from the quasi-2D perovskite films with hydrophobic nature and a high degree of electronic order and high crystallinity, which consists of both ordered large-bandgap perovskites with the vertical growth in the bottom region and oriented small-bandgap components in the top region. Moreover, due to the suppressed nonradiative recombination, the unencapsulated photovoltaic devices can work well as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), exhibiting an external quantum efficiency of 3.85% and a long operational lifetime of approximate to 96 h at a high current density of 200 mA cm(-2) in air.

  • Ingår i: Progress In Electromagnetics Research. - : EMW PUBLISHING. - 1070-4698 .- 1559-8985. ; 166, s. 107-117
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Layered molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) can efficiently emit photoluminescence (PL) excited by visible light. However, one-photon PL of MoS2 for bioimaging purposes suffers from strong autofluorescence and ion-induced PL quenching. Herein, we report single layer chitosan decorated MoS2 nanosheets as nonbleaching and nonblinking optical nanoprobes under near infrared femtosecond laser excitation and their applications for two photon luminescence (TPL) and second harmonic generation (SHG) bioimaging. The TPL can resist the ion-induced quenching by the cellular membrane. The proposed TPL and SHG of single layer MoS2 show great potential for real-time, deep and multiphoton bioimaging.
