    • The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of a rapidly spreading illness, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), affecting more than seventeen million people around the world. Diagnosis and treatment guidelines for clinicians caring for patients are needed. In the early stage, we have issued "A rapid advice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infected pneumonia (standard version)"; now there are many direct evidences emerged and may change some of previous recommendations and it is ripe for develop an evidence-based guideline. We formed a working group of clinical experts and methodologists. The steering group members proposed 29 questions that are relevant to the management of COVID-19 covering the following areas: chemoprophylaxis, diagnosis, treatments, and discharge management. We searched the literature for direct evidence on the management of COVID-19, and assessed its certainty generated recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Recommendations were either strong or weak, or in the form of ungraded consensus-based statement. Finally, we issued 34 statements. Among them, 6 were strong recommendations for, 14 were weak recommendations for, 3 were weak recommendations against and 11 were ungraded consensus-based statement. They covered topics of chemoprophylaxis (including agents and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) agents), diagnosis (including clinical manifestations, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), respiratory tract specimens, IgM and IgG antibody tests, chest computed tomography, chest x-ray, and CT features of asymptomatic infections), treatments (including lopinavir-ritonavir, umifenovir, favipiravir, interferon, remdesivir, combination of antiviral drugs, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine, interleukin-6 inhibitors, interleukin-1 inhibitors, glucocorticoid, qingfei paidu decoction, lianhua qingwen granules/capsules, convalescent plasma, lung transplantation, invasive or noninvasive ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)), and discharge management (including discharge criteria and management plan in patients whose RT-PCR retesting shows SARS-CoV-2 positive after discharge). We also created two figures of these recommendations for the implementation purpose. We hope these recommendations can help support healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients.

    • Because of the diurnal thermal cycle and the irregular shape of the nucleus, gas outflow of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko could be highly anisotropic as indicated by the colliminated dust jet structures on the sunlit side. Based on the OSIRIS imaging observations of the outgassing effect, a simple model of surface sublimation can be constructed by taking into account the dependence on the solar insolation. With preliminary information on the time variability of the global gas production rate, a sequence of gas coma models can be generated at different epochs before and after perihelion. We also investigate different patterns of dust particle dynamics under the influences of nuclear rotation and gas drag. From these considerations, a consistent picture of the spatial distribution of dusty materials across the surface of comet 67P as it moves around the perihelion can be developed. It is found that because of the redeposition of the ejected dust from the Southern hemisphere to the Northern hemisphere during the southern summer season the Hapi region could gain up to 0.4 m while the Wosret region would lose up to 1.8 m of dust mantle per orbit.

    • In 2015 May, the Southern hemisphere of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko became visible by the OSIRIS cameras on-board the Rosetta spacecraft. The resolution was high enough to carry out a detailed analysis of the surface morphology, which is quite different from the Northern hemisphere. Previous works show that fine particle deposits are the most extensive geological unit in the Northern hemisphere. In contrast, the Southern hemisphere is dominated by outcropping consolidated terrain. In this work, we provide geomorphological maps of the Southern hemisphere with the distinction of both geological units and linear features. The geomorphological maps described in this study allow us to gain a better understanding of the processes shaping the comet nucleus and the distribution of primary structures such as fractures and strata.

  • Technology Roadmap for Flexible Sensors

    • Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative efforts, scientific breakthroughs can be made sooner and capitalized for the betterment of humanity.

    • Rab7 is a member of small GTP-binding protein family involved in intracellular vesicle trafficking from late endosome to vacuole, some of them are found to be responsive by different environmental stresses. Here we report the isolation of a Rab7 (RabG3b) cDNA from peanut (Arachis hypogaea). Overexpression of the open reading frame (ORF) of Rab7 cDNA encoding 205 amino acids in E. coli conferred the cells tolerance to various abiotic stresses. Transcription of AhRabG3b was differentially up-regulated by different environmental stimuli such as cold, dehydration, NaCl and the plant hormone ABA. Overexpression of the AhRabG3b exhibited enhanced tolerance to drought and salinity stresses in transgenic peanut. These results suggested that the AhRabG3b be a potential candidate gene responsible for both salinity and dehydration tolerance in cultivated peanut.

    • Massively parallel sequencing of cDNA has enabled deep and efficient probing of transcriptomes. Current approaches for transcript reconstruction from such data often rely on aligning reads to a reference genome, and are thus unsuitable for samples with a partial or missing reference genome. Here we present the Trinity method for de novo assembly of full-length transcripts and evaluate it on samples from fission yeast, mouse and whitefly, whose reference genome is not yet available. By efficiently constructing and analyzing sets of de Bruijn graphs, Trinity fully reconstructs a large fraction of transcripts, including alternatively spliced isoforms and transcripts from recently duplicated genes. Compared with other de novo transcriptome assemblers, Trinity recovers more full-length transcripts across a broad range of expression levels, with a sensitivity similar to methods that rely on genome alignments. Our approach provides a unified solution for transcriptome reconstruction in any sample, especially in the absence of a reference genome.

    • Aims/hypothesis: The study aimed to investigate the effects of HLA class I genes on susceptibility to type 1 diabetes with different onset ages, in addition to the well-established effects of HLA class II genes. Methods: A total of 361 patients with type 1 diabetes (192 patients with onset <18 years and 169 patients with onset ≥18 years) and 500 healthy control participants from China were enrolled and genotyped for the HLA-A, -B, -C, -DQA1, -DQB1 and -DRB1 genes using next-generation sequencing. Results: The susceptible DR3 (β = −0.09, p = 0.0009) and DR4-DQ8 (β = −0.13, p = 0.0059) haplotypes were negatively associated with onset age, while the protective DR11 (β = 0.21, p = 0.0314) and DR12 (β = 0.27, p < 0.0001) haplotypes were positively associated with onset age. After adjustment for linkage disequilibrium with DR-DQ haplotypes, A*11:01:01 was positively associated with onset age (β = 0.06, p = 0.0370), while the susceptible C*15:02:01 was negatively associated with onset age (β = −0.21, p = 0.0050). The unit for β was double square-root (fourth root) transformed years of change in onset age associated with per copy of the HLA haplotype/allele. In addition, B*46:01:01 was protective (OR 0.41, 0.46; pc [corrected for multiple comparisons] = 0.0044, 0.0040), whereas A*24:02:01 (OR 2.71, 2.25; pc = 0.0003, 0.0002) and B*54:01:01 (OR 3.96, 3.79; pc = 0.0018, 0.0004) were predisposing in both the <18 group and the ≥18 group compared with healthy control participants. In the context of DR4-DQ4, A*11:01:01 (61.29% vs 28.26%, pc = 0.0144) was increased while the predisposing A*24:02:01 (19.35% vs 47.83%, pc = 0.0403) was decreased in patients with onset ≥18 years when compared with patients with onset <18 years. Conclusions/interpretation: In addition to DR-DQ haplotypes, novel HLA class I alleles were detected to play a role in susceptibility to type 1 diabetes with different onset ages, which could improve the understanding of disease heterogeneity and has implications for the design of future studies.     • Two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, known as MXenes, are currently considered as energy storage materials. A generic Lewis acidic etching route for preparing high-rate negative-electrode MXenes with enhanced electrochemical performance in non-aqueous electrolyte is now proposed. Two-dimensional carbides and nitrides of transition metals, known as MXenes, are a fast-growing family of materials that have attracted attention as energy storage materials. MXenes are mainly prepared from Al-containing MAX phases (where A = Al) by Al dissolution in F-containing solution; most other MAX phases have not been explored. Here a redox-controlled A-site etching of MAX phases in Lewis acidic melts is proposed and validated by the synthesis of various MXenes from unconventional MAX-phase precursors with A elements Si, Zn and Ga. A negative electrode of Ti3C2 MXene material obtained through this molten salt synthesis method delivers a Li+ storage capacity of up to 738 C g(-1) (205 mAh g(-1)) with high charge-discharge rate and a pseudocapacitive-like electrochemical signature in 1 M LiPF6 carbonate-based electrolyte. MXenes prepared via this molten salt synthesis route may prove suitable for use as high-rate negative-electrode materials for electrochemical energy storage applications.

    • A theoretical study of a dioxaborine heterocyclic compound in solution provides a case study for an analysis of the effects induced by the so-called HerzbergTeller (HT) vibronic coupling on the one- (OPA) and two-photon absorption (TPA) spectra. For TPA, the HT vibronic coupling induces differences in the shapes of the absorption band. The study highlights the importance of vibronic coupling as a potentially important mechanism in absorption spectroscopy, able to explain differences in the OPA/TPA spectra.

    • In this paper, one- and two-photon absorption properties as well as the transition nature of a series of donor-pi-acceptor-type compounds with trivalent boron as an acceptor have been theoretically studied by using INDO/SDCI method. Our calculations indicate that the four o-methyl moieties on the two mesityl groups play an important part in protecting the trivalent boron from being attacked by oxygen in the air. The trivalent boron containing group can be an all-right electron-acceptor with some bulky groups attached to it. On the basis of geometry optimization and UV-vis spectra, the positions and strengths of two-photon absorption for these molecules were reported.

    • We propose an effective method to alleviate the conflict between large group delay and wide frequency band in electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) design. Two kinds of electrically induced transparency (E-IT) and magnetically induced transparency (M-IT) are proposed, respectively. Then an EIT with wide transparency window is developed by combining the independent E-IT and M-IT structures. All of the transparencies are designed in a closed waveguide system, and high efficiency is obtained at the same time. One sample is fabricated and the bandwidth is increased to more than 3 times without decrease of the group delay and increase of the size.

  • Understand and realize an "invisible gateway" in a classical way

    • We create an invisible gateway simply by putting electric and magnetic superscatterers in a metallic waveguide. The characteristics of the electric and magnetic resonators are analyzed in a metallic hollow waveguide, and the dual-mode superscattering property is discussed in detail to broaden the bandwidth of the invisible gateway. Good agreement is achieved between the simulation and measurement for such an invisible gateway. The present work help readers understand easily how an invisible gateway works (or makes sense) in a classical way without using any complex metamaterial or complicated method of transformation optics.

    • A generalized nonlinear Baker failure criterion is employed with the upper bound limit analysis to study the surrounding rock stability of underground cavities. A three-dimensional (3D) failure mode is established by extending the two-dimensional (2D) failure mode, which offers an upper bound expression of the surrounding rock pressure. This method is validated with a series of examples before the influence of four parameters of scale parameter, curvature parameter, shift parameter and lateral pressure coefficient, on the surrounding rock pressure is analyzed. According to these results, failure ranges of the underground cavities are determined. The following conclusions are reached: (1) the proposed approach is more accurate to predict surrounding rock pressure than the Mohr−Coulomb failure criterion; (2) the surrounding rock with large scale parameter, curvature parameter, shift parameter, and lateral pressure coefficient can lead to a more stable underground cavity; (3) the failure range in 3D mode can be predicted according to the upper bound solutions.

    • The effects of laser irradiation on the surface microstructure and optical properties of ZnO films deposited on glass substrates were investigated experimentally and compared with those of thermal annealing. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements showed that the irradiation treatment with an Ar+ laser of 514 nm for 5 min improves the crystalline quality of ZnO thin films through increasing the grain size and enhancing the c-axis orientation, with the effects similar to those of the thermal annealing at 500 °C for 1 h. Laser irradiation was found to be more effective both for the relaxation of the residual compressive stress in the as-grown films and for the modification of the surface morphology. A significant increase in the UV absorption and a widening in the optical band-gap of the films were also observed after laser irradiation.

    • ZnO thin films were prepared by radio frequency (RF) reactive magnetron sputtering at varying deposition conditions. The effects of RF power (from 40 to 90 W) and substrate temperature (from 100 to 200 degrees C) on the grain growth behavior, surface morphology evolution, and the structural and optical properties of the films were investigated. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements confirmed that the grain size and surface roughness depend mainly on the RF power and increase with increasing it at the initial deposition stage of 5 s, and are strongly affected by the substrate temperature and increase with increasing it at the final deposition stage of 45 min. The influence of both the deposition parameters on the surface structure of the ZnO films at different deposition stages and the mechanism concerning this influence were discussed. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical absorption spectra analysis indicated that all the films deposited for 45 min are in the state of the compressive stress and exhibit polycrystalline nature with the (002) preferential orientation, and they have high optical transparency in the visible range and sharp absorption edges around the wavelength 360 nm corresponding to the ZnO exciton. With the increase of the RF power and substrate temperature, the grain size increases, the residual compressive stress relaxes, and the optical band gaps broaden. In comparison with the RF power, the substrate temperature has more evident influence on the microstructure of the ZnO thin films.

  • Coronavirus Disease 2019 Related Clinical Studies : A Cross-Sectional Analysis

    • Objective: The quality and rationality of many recently registered clinical studies related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) needs to be assessed. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the current status of COVID-19 related registered clinical trial. Methods: We did an electronic search of COVID-19 related clinical studies registered between December 1, 2019 and February 21, 2020 (updated to May 28, 2020) from the ClinicalTrials.gov, and collected registration information, study details, recruitment status, characteristics of the subjects, and relevant information about the trial implementation process. Results: A total of 1,706 studies were included 10.0% of which (n=171) were from France, 943 (55.3%) used an interventional design, and 600 (35.2%) used an observational design. Most of studies (73.6%) aimed to recruit fewer than 500 people. Interferon was the main prevention program, and antiviral drugs were the main treatment program. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine (230/943, 24.4%) were widely studied. Some registered clinical trials are incomplete in content, and 37.4% of the 1,706 studies may have had insufficient sample size. Conclusion: The quality of COVID-19 related studies needs to be improved by strengthening the registration process and improving the quality of clinical study protocols so that these clinical studies can provide high-quality clinical evidence related to COVID-19.

  • Wideband design of compact monopole-Like circular patch antenna using modal analysis

    • In this paper, we present a systematic approach to design a compact dual-mode monopole-like patch antenna using characteristic mode analysis (CMA). The modal analysis of a slotted circular patch structure incorporating a new shorting pin loading technique is presented. To achieve a compact monopole-like antenna with wideband operation, it is demonstrated that the first two significant modes with monopole-like patterns are the most suitable ones for dual-mode excitation. Based on the analysis of the modal currents and electric fields, four groups of shorting pins and four slots are introduced to individually tune the two modes, which facilitates the optimization. The effects of these slots and shorting pins on the resonant frequencies of the two modes are analyzed in detail. Finally, a CPW T-junction power divider is applied to simultaneously excite these two modes and suppress the undesired modes. Apart from a more compact form factor and higher gain than existing work, it also features a competitive gain-bandwidth per volume ratio.

    • This paper presents a broadside antenna with three ports operating at the same frequency. The TM030 and TM003 modes of a patch are excited by two coaxial cables to generate two orthogonal linear polarizations. The patch can be transformed into a slotted SIW cavity whose TE201 and TE102 modes are jointly excited by the third cable. A matching cavity and a matching patch are introduced to broaden the impedance bandwidth of the third port. The simulated results show that the isolations between these three ports are higher than 18 dB, even though the radiation patterns of the three ports are all broadside. The proposed three-port antenna can provide a solution to increase the number of the ports per unit area in outdoor massive MIMO antennas.

    • In this communication, a novel planar structure-shared diverse two-port ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with high isolation and common ground is proposed based on a new slot-loaded method. A tapered slot with an end-fire radiation pattern is etched in the top middle section of a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed printed monopole antenna to reduce its effects on the monopole mode. The two-port UWB antenna features diverse patterns which can fully cover the upper space. A nonuniformly symmetric-coupled coplanar waveguide (NSC-CPW) is introduced to enable the two sets of the feeding structures sharing a ground plane with minimum interaction. Due to the modal orthogonality, high isolation between the two ports is obtained without additional decoupling structures. The experimental results of the proposed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna indicate that the isolation is higher than 31.4 dB and the diversity gain is approximately 10 dB within a wide frequency range from 2.98 to 10 GHz. Meanwhile, high realized peak gain (>2.5 dB) and good efficiency (>80%) are also obtained for both the ports.

    • A new efficient synthesis method of angular selective surfaces (ASSs) based on the accurate equivalent circuit model is proposed. The angular dispersion of different components under oblique incidence is modeled by virtual lumped elements in the angular domain. The processes of obtaining the equivalent circuit for substrates, electrically small grids and patch arrays are presented in detail. The synthesized circuits are simple and accurate. Full-wave simulations are carried out to obtain the angular dispersion of different structures, and the calculated results are in good agreement with those of the equivalent circuit. A third-order ASS with bandpass response and a second-order ASS with a tunable bandwidth are given as design examples. The implemented second-order ASS shows the 0.33 to 0.52 tunable bandwidth in the angular domain. The transmission loss is better than 1.2 dB when the incidence angle is 65°-77°. The simulation results and calculated results are in good agreement with the measured results.

  • Parental Burnout Around the Globe : a 42-Country Study

    • High levels of stress in the parenting domain can lead to parental burnout, a condition that has severe consequences for both parents and children. It is not yet clear, however, whether parental burnout varies by culture, and if so, why it might do so. In this study, we examined the prevalence of parental burnout in 42 countries (17,409 parents; 71% mothers; Mage = 39.20) and showed that the prevalence of parental burnout varies dramatically across countries. Analyses of cultural values revealed that individualistic cultures, in particular, displayed a noticeably higher prevalence and mean level of parental burnout. Indeed, individualism plays a larger role in parental burnout than either economic inequalities across countries, or any other individual and family characteristic examined so far, including the number and age of children and the number of hours spent with them. These results suggest that cultural values in Western countries may put parents under heightened levels of stress.Supplementary Information: The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s42761-020-00028-4.

  • An improved CRLH wide-band filter using CSRRs with high stop band rejection

    • In this paper, a filter based on Composite Right/Left Handed (CRLH) structures is presented, wide pass band is obtained due to the balanced CRLH properties. Besides, it has Complementary Split-Ring Resonator (CSRR) units etched on ground plane, which improves signal rejection in its upper stop band. The CSRRs work as a stop band filter in a band near the main pass band of the filter and bring in equivalent negative permittivity. CSRRs and CRLH units occupy the two sides of substrate respectively and have little mutual affection in the pass band, so either structure can be designed independently, without considering the effect from the other. The improvement occupy no additional space, the size is as large as the original filter. Detailed design procedure is illustrated. Good agreements among simulation and measurement results are achieved. In addition, the filter has a semi-enclosed structure and compact size, and the performance is greatly improved.

  • Facile Hydrothermal Synthesis of Highly Efficient and Durable Ternary PtPdCu Electrocatalysts for the Methanol Oxidation Reaction

    • Precious metal Pt-based electrocatalysts have been widely used in the methanol catalytic oxidation anodes in direct methanol fuel cells. However, decreasing their cost and improving their efficiency and durability have still been challenging. Herein, ternary PtPdCu nanocatalysts are synthesized through a facile one-step hydrothermal synthesis method. When KI is present with a suitable amount in the synthesis, PtPdCu nanospheres with surface-embedded CuI clusters (CuI/PtPdCu) are fabricated. However, without KI, the prepared PtPdCu catalysts show a distinct hollow structure (h-PtPtCu). CuI/PtPdCu displays the highest specific activity with enhancement 4 times higher than commercial Pt/C for the methanol oxidation reaction in an alkaline medium. The superior activity can be attributed to two aspects: 1) the electronic effect originating from the highly alloyed PtPdCu; 2) the synergetic effect resulting from surface inlaid CuI clusters, which can promote the CO intermediate removal. Furthermore, because of the stable Pt-Pd-rich surface and its special linked hollow structure, the h-PtPtCu catalyst exhibits good durability with only a 3.6% decay in the specific activity.

    • The bulk heterojunction (BHJ) morphology of photovoltaic materials is crucial to the fundamental optoelectronic properties of organic solar cells (OSCs). However, in the photoactive layer, the intrinsic crystalline packing structure of Y6, currently the hallmark molecule among Y-series non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs), has not been unambiguously determined. Here, employing grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS), we managed to uncover the intrinsic crystalline packing structure of Y6 in the BHJ active layer of OSCs, which is found to be different from its single-crystal structure reported previously. Moreover, we find that solvent additive 1-chloronaphthalene (CN) can induce highly ordered packing of Y6 in BHJ thin films. With the help of atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, it is revealed that pi-pi interactions generally exist between naphthalene derivatives and IC terminals of Y6 analogues, which would essentially improve their long-range ordering. Our work reveals the intrinsic crystalline packing structure of Y6 in the BHJ active layer as well as its crystallization mechanism in thin films, thus providing direct correlations between this crystalline packing and the device characteristics and photophysical properties.

    • Aluminium-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films have been deposited on flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate by RF reactive magnetron sputtering process at low substrate temperature (room -100 degrees C), and their photoluminescence (PL) behavior at room temperature and the influence of O-2:Ar ratio, substrate temperature, and deposition time were investigated. The strong near band-edge UV emission and the weak blue emission were observed, while the defect-related deep-level green emission was nearly absent, indicating that high optical quality AZO films, grown on flexible PET substrate, were obtained using the RF reactive magnetron sputtering technique. The origin of the emissions is discussed.
