  • Comparison of electrocardiograms recorded with standardleads and derived from the vectorcardiographic frank leads in high risk patients
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Intensive Care Medicine. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0342-4642 .- 1432-1238. ; 23:10, s. 1049-1055
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dynamic vectorcardiography (VCG) is increasingly employed for ischaemia monitoring with the use of a computerized method for recording and on-line analysis by the calculation of trend parameters. To elucidate how well the derived electrocardiogram (dECG), calculated from the VCC, compares with the simultaneously registered standard ECG (sECG), dECGs from 17 postoperative cardiac-risk patients and 36 subjects with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were compared to sECGs, both quantitatively in leads II, III, V2 and V5 and qualitatively. Despite small, but some significant differences, mainly in the amplitudes of precordial leads, the qualitative interpretation by two independent cardiologists showed good agreement between the methods (kappa = 0.72 and 0.67, respectively) for the diagnosis of AMI/ischaemia. The dECG seems to be reliable and can be used clinically in these groups of patients during VCG recordings.

  • ON THE UPWARD ACCELERATION OF ELECTRONS AND IONS BY LOW-FREQUENCY ELECTRIC-FIELD FLUCTUATIONS OBSERVED BY VIKING
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH-SPACE PHYSICS. - : American Geophysical Union (AGU). - 0148-0227. ; 96:A7, s. 11609-11615
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dependence of the generation of upward electron beams in the to side ionosphere on the amplitude of the slow electric field fluctuations and the magnitude of the dc potential difference in the acceleration region is found to agree with the model involving the fluctuating electric field component presented in 1988 by Hultqvist. The ratio between the amplitude of the electric field fluctuations, E(f), determined by the dipole electric field experiment, and the dc acceleration voltage V(acc), given by the energy of the upflowing ion beam, is much higher on average for satellite spins showing an upward electron beam than for the spins without. It is also shown that low plasma density favors the generation of electron beams.

  • Preschoolers' sexual behavior at daycare centers : An epidemiological study
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Child Abuse & Neglect. - : Elsevier BV. - 0145-2134 .- 1873-7757. ; 19:5, s. 569-577
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The frequency of sexual behaviors in a population of preschoolers (n = 251) attending Swedish daycare centers was studied using a questionnaire given to the staff. Some behaviors turned out to be frequently occurring, like searching for body contact and responding to such contact. However, several behaviors were very uncommon (1% or fewer): touching an adult's genitals; attempting to make the adult touch the child's genitals; using objects against own or other childs genitals/anus; to masturbate obsessively, without pleasure or in a way that caused pain. Other behaviors occurred more frequently but were still uncommon (less than 2% of the children displayed such a behavior “sometimes” or “often/daily”): exhibiting own genitals; playing sexually explorative games; initiating games with a similarity to adult sexual activity; using sexual words; attempting to touch a woman's breast. Only masturbation and clinging body contact were positively correlated with behavioral disturbance. The correlations between age and single behaviors may be summarized as manifestations of the process of socialization. The results offer an incipient frame of reference for statistically normal expected sexual behaviors in preschoolers at daycare centers. The rarity of certain behaviors implies that their occurrence in an individual case may necessitate special clinical attention.

  • Effect of high pressure on volume and ion-ion interaction in poly (propylene glycol) complexed with LiCF3SO3
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Solid State Ionics. - : Elsevier. - 0167-2738 .- 1872-7689. ; 60:1-3, s. 43-46
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Raman spectroscopy has been used to study the ion-ion interaction in poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) complexed with LiCF3SO3 under pressures up to 0.4 GPa. In addition, measurements of the variation of volume with pressure and salt concentration have been made. The Raman studies revealed increasing solubility and fewer ion pairs in the salt-polymer complex with increasing pressure. The volume dependence of the ion-ion interaction was calculated from the experimental data for relative volume versus pressure.

  • On porting VMTP to the x-kernal
  • 1992. - 1
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This report describes our port of Stenford transaction protocol VMTP from the BSD 4.3 UNIX kernal implementation to the x-kernal operating system from University of Arizona. The BSD UNIX kernal dependent functions in the VMTP Implementation are Identified. It is described how we have replaced these functions with corresponding parts from the x-kernal. In particular we describe how BSD UNIX "sockets" are replaced with x-kernal parts and how the BSD UNIX buffer system, "mbufs", is moved into user space. The ported version is the so called minimal implementation of VMTP. It only runs in the simulator of the x-kernal.

  • Pharmacokinetic and pharmacologic properties of antiuterotonic oxytocin analogs in the rat
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. - 1521-0103. ; 264:2, s. 783-788
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic properties were evaluated in a series of antiuterotonic oxytocin analogs, modified at positions 1, 2, 4, 8 and, in one case, position 9 of the oxytocin (OT) molecule. [Mpa1,D-Tyr2(Et),Val4,Orn8,desGly9]-OT, [Mpa1,Tyr2(Et),Val4,Orn8]-OT and [Mpa1,D-Tyr2,Val4,Orn8]-OT displayed similar plasma clearance rates (Clps) using the constant infusion method in rats. Two analogs, [Mpa1,D-Tyr2(Et),Val4,Orn8]-OT and, particularly, [Mpa1,D-Tyr2(Et),Thr4,Orn8]-OT, were cleared at significantly higher rates compared with the others. [Mpa1, D-Tyr2(Et), Val4, Orn8]-OT and [Mpa1, D-Tyr2(Et), Thr4, Orn8, desGly9]-OT were most potent in eliciting a short-term in vivo antiuterotonic effect, whereas the duration of effect was longest for [Mpa1, D-Tyr2, Val4, Orn8]-OT and [Mpa1, D-Tyr2(Et), Thr4, Orn8, desGly9]-OT. The Clp of [Mpa1, D-Tyr2, Val4, Orn8]-OT was similar regardless of the infusion rate. No relationship between antiuterotonic effect and Clp of the five peptides could be demonstrated, and no significant linear correlation between Clp and effect duration was found. The apparent volumes of distribution for the present analogs were 10-fold larger than the blood volume, a finding to be considered when measuring in vivo antagonistic activity. The 24-h urinary excretion ranged from 14.3 to 25.6% of the i.v. dose and was negatively correlated with peptide lipophilicity. It is concluded that, in addition to diverging pharmacologic properties, peptide analogs may differ markedly in kinetic parameters like Clp, volumes of distribution and urinary excretion despite minor molecular modifications.

  • Practical Design and Performance Based Regulations
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Fire Science and Technology. - 0285-9521. ; 18:1, s. 33-42
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper presents a sample design of a multi-storey building with respect to the fire safety. Three design strategies are examined, a standard solution according to the requirements, a fire safety engineering design without a sprinkler system and finally a fire safety engineering design with a sprinkler system. The objective was to demonstrate different design strategies and still comply with the performance based Swedish building regulation. Mostly, only the safety to people has been considered in the design for the three cases. The use of fire safety engineering methods for the design shows that an optimised solution can be achieved with respect to both fire safety and economics.

  • The Swedish Case Study, Fire Safety Design for a Multitenant Business Occupancy
  • 1996
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The report presents a sample design of a multi-storey building with respect to the fire safety. Three design strategies are examined, a standard solution according to the requirements, a fire safety engineering design without a sprinkler system and finally a fire safety engineering solution with a sprinkler system. Both occupant safety and structural safety have been considered in the design for the three cases. The use of fire safety engineering methods for the design shows that an optimised solution can be achieved with respect to both fire safety and economics. An executive summary is also attached to the report, which describes the major findings.

  • Fullerenes under pressure : Structure, order, and disorder
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: High Pressure Science and Technology. - Singapore : World Scientific. - 9810225474 ; , s. 697-701
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The weak intermolecular interactions in solid C60 and other fullerenes make crystal structures and other properties very sensitive to applied pressure. We review recent results on the properties and phases of fullerenes under pressure, concentrating on the low-p range up to about 1 GPa. Subjects discussed include compression and transport studies, orientational and rotational disorder, the glassy crystal transition, and pressure-induced polymerization.

  • Orientational disorder and the p-T phase diagram of fullerenes
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Fullerenes: Recent Advances in the Chemistry and Physics of Fullerenes and Related Materials, volume 2. - Pennington, NJ : The Electrochemical Society. - 1566771048 ; , s. 891-905
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The translational and orientational structures of fullerenes are very sensitive to pressure, p, because of the weak intermolecular potentials. We have recently carried out high-p studies of the thermal conductivity lambda and the bulk modulus B of C60 and C70, and we show here how the p-T phase diagrams of these materials can be mapped from data for B and lambda and a knowledge of the structures at zero pressure. We discuss how B and lambda are modified by translational, rotational and orientational disorder in the materials, mainly showing examples related to the orientational substructure and its evolution with T and p in C60. We also discuss briefly the structures and phase diagrams of C70 and C61H2, and we show preliminary experimental results suggesting that the structure of high-p, high-T treated C60 is probably not polymeric as recently suggested by several groups.

  • Passive knee muscle moment arms measured in vivo with MRI
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Clinical Biomechanics. - Oxon, United Kingdom : Butterworth-Heinemann. - 0268-0033 .- 1879-1271. ; 11:8, s. 439-446
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To determine moment arm lengths from seven knee muscles and the patellar tendon. The knee muscles were the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus, gracilis, sartorius, and the lateral and medial gastrocnemius muscles.Design: The moment arms were calculated based on MRI measurements. Background: Moment arm lengths of different muscles with respect to the joint centre of rotation (CR) or the centre of the contact point between joint surfaces are necessary basic data for biomechanical models predicting joint load. Methods: Ten male and seven female subjects participated. Using a 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging system, 3-dimensional coordinates of relevant points were recorded from a 3-D volume reconstruction of the right knee at knee flexion angles of 0, 30 and 60 degrees. Muscular moment arms were calculated in both the sagittal and frontal planes. The recordings were all made during passive mode, which means that no muscular contraction was performed. Results: All muscles except the lateral gastrocnemius showed statistically significant differences (P<0.05) of moment arm lengths between gender in the frontal plane. All muscles except biceps femoris and sartorius showed significant differences (P<0.05) of moment arm lengths between gender in the sagittal plane. Most muscles also showed a linear or quadratic trend of changing moment arms with varying knee angle. CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that for most biomechanical analyses involving knee muscles, gender- and angle-specific moment arms should be used.
