  • Gain of chromosome arm 17q is associated with unfavourable prognosis in neuroblastoma, but does not involve mutations in the somatostatin receptor 2(SSTR2) gene at 17q24.
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: British journal of cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0007-0920 .- 1532-1827. ; 81:8, s. 1402-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Deletion of chromosome arm 1p and amplification of the MYCN oncogene are well-recognized genetic alterations in neuroblastoma cells. Recently, another alteration has been reported; gain of the distal part of chromosome arm 17q. In this study 48 neuroblastoma tumours were successfully analysed for 17q status in relation to known genetic alterations. Chromosome 17 status was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Thirty-one of the 48 neuroblastomas (65%) showed 17q gain, and this was significantly associated with poor prognosis. As previously reported, 17q gain was significantly associated with metastatic stage 4 neuroblastoma and more frequently detected than both deletion of chromosome arm 1p and MYCN amplification in tumours of all stages. 17q gain also showed a strong correlation to survival probability (P = 0.0009). However, the most significant correlation between 17q gain and survival probability was observed in children with low-stage tumours (stage 1, 2, 3 and 4S), with a survival probability of 100% at 5 years from diagnosis for children with tumours showing no 17q gain compared to 52.5% for those showing 17q gain (P = 0.0021). This suggests that 17q gain as a prognostic factor plays a more crucial role in low-stage tumours. Expression of the somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2), localized in chromosome region 17q24, has in previous studies been shown to be positively related to survival in neuroblastoma. A point mutation in the SSTR2 gene has earlier been reported in a human small-cell lung cancer. In this study, mutation screening of the SSTR2 gene in 43 neuroblastoma tumours was carried out with polymerase chain reaction-based single-stranded conformation polymorphism/heteroduplex (SSCP/HD) and DNA sequencing, and none of the tumours showed any aberrations in the SSTR2 gene. These data suggest that mutations in the SSTR2 gene are uncommon in neuroblastoma tumours and do not correlate with either the 17q gain often seen or the reason some tumours do not express SSTR2 receptors. Overall, this study indicates that gain of chromosome arm 17q is the most frequently occurring genetic alteration, and that it is associated with established prognostic factors.

  • DTMsim - DTM channel simulation in ns
  • 2001. - 1
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Dynamic Transfer Mode (DTM) is a ring based MAN technology that provides a channel abstraction with a dynamically adjustable capacity. TCP is a reliable end to end transport protocol capable of adjusting its rate. The primary goal of this work is investigate the coupling of dynamically allocating bandwidth to TCP flows with the affect this has on the congestion control mechanism of TCP. In particular we wanted to find scenerios where this scheme does not work, where either all the link capacity is allocated to TCP or congestion collapse occurs and no capacity is allocated to TCP. We have created a simulation environment using ns-2 to investigate TCP over networks which have a variable capacity link. We begin with a single TCP Tahoe flow over a fixed bandwidth link and progressively add more complexity to understand the behaviour of dynamically adjusting link capacity to TCP and vice versa.

  • Development and Construct Validation of the Swedish Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (S-ZTPI).
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Psychological Assessment. - : Hogrefe Publishing. - 1015-5759 .- 2151-2426. ; 27:4, s. 220-227
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study, we developed and evaluated a Swedish version of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI;Zimbardo & Boyd, 1999). The original version of the ZTPI was extended by including a Future Negative scale, and the psychometric properties of both versions were examined in a sample of 419 adults aged between 18 and 80 years. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) provided support both for the original five-factor solution proposed byZimbardo and Boyd (1999) in a Swedish sample and for a six-factor solution with the Future Negative scale as an independent factor. These findings extend the original ZTPI and suggest that negative feelings about the future constitute a central dimension of the temporal perspective. The Swedish Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (S-ZTPI) provides a reliable and valid instrument for measuring time perspective in the context of Swedish research and to be beneficial in its application in multiple areas of psychology and related disciplines.

    • The importance of the future as an arena for planning, self-regulation and achievement has been of considerable interest in past research. The majority of this research suggests that future-oriented thinking has considerable benefits for psychological adjustment and wellbeing. The future is nevertheless not only a temporal space for goal-setting and positive expectations, it may also be associated with fear, uncertainty and anxiety, which may ultimately have detrimental effects on both mental and physical health. Here we present the outline for the Swedish ZTPI (S-ZTPI) which extends the original ZTPI by separating the Future dimension into two sub-factors: The Future Positive scale and the Future Negative scale. We argue that separating the future into two separate dimensions thus comprehending both a positive and a negative valence of the future, adds important information regarding association between future time perspective and subjective well-being.

    • OBJECTIVES: Obesity is associated with a proinflammatory state that may be involved in the etiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), for which there are plausible biological mechanisms. Our aim was to perform the first prospective cohort study investigating if there is an association between obesity and the development of incident IBD. METHODS: A total of 300,724 participants were recruited into the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study. At recruitment, anthropometric measurements of height and weight plus physical activity and total energy intake from validated questionnaires were recorded. The cohort was monitored identifying participants who developed either Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). Each case was matched with four controls and conditional logistic regression used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) for body mass index (BMI) adjusted for smoking, energy intake, and physical activity. RESULTS: In the cohort, 177 participants developed incident UC and 75 participants developed incident CD. There were no associations with the four higher categories of BMI compared with a normal BMI for UC (P-trend = 0.36) or CD (P-trend = 0.83). The lack of associations was consistent when BMI was analyzed as a continuous or binary variable (BMI 18.5 <25.0 vs. >= 25 kg/m(2)). Physical activity and total energy intake, factors that influence BMI, did not show any association with UC (physical activity, P-trend = 0.79; total energy intake, P-trend = 0.18) or CD (physical activity, P-trend = 0.42; total energy, P-trend = 0.11). CONCLUSIONS: Obesity as measured by BMI is not associated with the development of incident UC or CD. Alternative measures of obesity are required to further investigate the role of obesity in the development of incident IBD.

  • Analysis of the most widely used building environmental assessment methods
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Sciences(China). - : Informa UK Limited. - 1001-0742 .- 1878-7320. ; 3:3, s. 175-192
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Building Environmental Assessment (BEA) is a term used for several methods for environmental assessment of the building environment. Generally, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an important foundation and part of the BEA method, but current BEA methods form more comprehensive tools than LCA. Indicators and weight assignments are the two most important factors characterizing BEA. From the comparison of the three most widely used BEA methods, EcoHomes (BREEAM for residential buildings), LEED-NC and GBTool, it can be seen that BEA methods are shifting from ecological, indicator-based scientific systems to more integrated systems covering ecological, social and economic categories. Being relatively new methods, current BEA systems are far from perfect and are under continuous development. The further development of BEA methods will focus more on non-ecological indicators and how to promote implementation. Most BEA methods are developed based on regional regulations and LCA methods, but they do not attempt to replace these regulations. On the contrary, they try to extend implementation by incentive programmes. There are several ways to enhance BEA in the future: expand the studied scope from design levels to whole life-cycle levels of constructions, enhance international cooperation, accelerate legislation and standardize and develop user-oriented assessment systems.

  • Natural Language Response Formats for Assessing Depression
  • 2023
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE:Recent advances in AI-based Large Language Models (LLM) can transform individuals’ descriptions of emotional health into numeric representations that predict rating scales with an accuracy approaching theoretical upper limits. This advancement enables examing various open-ended response formats. We develop and evaluate formats ranging from closed to more open: 1) selecting descriptive words from a pre-defined list (the select format), and generating own 2) descriptive words (the word format), 3) descriptive phrases (the phrase format), or 4) descriptive texts (the text format).MATERIAL AND METHODS:Participants (N = 963) were recruited online to answer questions about their depression using the four response formats. They also completed depression rating scales, including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Language responses were first transformed into numeric representations using an LLM and then trained to predict the PHQ-9 using cross-validated ridge regression.RESULTS:The highest accuracy for the PHQ-9 score (Pearson correlation between out-of-sample predictions and observed scores) is achieved by combining all four formats (r=.76). In single-format predictions of the PHQ-9, the select format yields the highest (r=.73), followed by the phrase (r=.68), text (r=.68), and word (r=.67) formats. The select format has the fastest completion time (median = 30 sec), followed by the word (median = 67 sec), the phrase (median = 80 sec), and the text (median = 122 sec) formats.CONCLUSION:The response formats have advantages, with varying predictive accuracy on rating scales and different completion times. This provides the potential to select a response format according to situations and needs.

  • A New Insight Into Oxidation Mechanisms of Sulphide Minerals
  • 2014
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an oxidizing agent stronger than oxygen, by sulphide minerals during grinding was examined. It was found that pyrite (FeS2), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), sphalerite ((Zn, Fe) S), and galena (PbS) generated H2O2 in pulp liquid during wet grinding and also when the freshly ground solids are placed in water immediately after dry grinding. Pyrite produced more H2O2 than other minerals and the order of H2O2 production by the minerals was found to be pyrite > chalcopyrite > sphalerite > galena. The pH of the water influenced the extent of hydrogen peroxide formation with greater amounts of H2O2 produced at highly acidic pH. Furthermore, the effect of mixed sulphide minerals, i.e., pyrite–chalcopyrite, pyrite–galena, chalcopyrite–galena and sphalerite–pyrite, sphalerite–chalcopyrite and sphalerite-galena on the formation of H2O2 showed increasing H2O2 formation with increasing pyrite fraction. There is clear correlation of the amount of H2O2 production with the rest potential of the sulphide minerals; the greater the rest potential of a mineral the greater the formation of H2O2. This study highlights the necessity of revisiting the electrochemical and/or galvanic interactions between sulphide minerals, and interaction mechanisms between pyrite and other sulphide minerals in terms of their flotation behaviour in the context of inevitable H2O2 existence in the pulp liquid

  • Nonresponders of Physical Activity on Prescription (PAP) Can Increase Their Exercise Capacity with Enhanced Physiotherapist Support
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. - : MDPI AG. - 1660-4601. ; 18:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Swedish physical activity on prescription (PAP) is an evidence-based method to promote physical activity. However, few studies have investigated the effect of Swedish PAP on physical fitness, in which better cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with lower risks of all-cause mortality and diagnose-specific mortality. Direct measures of cardiorespiratory fitness, usually expressed as maximal oxygen uptake, are difficult to obtain. Hence, exercise capacity can be assessed from a submaximal cycle ergometer test, taking the linear relationship between heart rate, work rate, and oxygen uptake into account. The aim of this study was to evaluate exercise capacity in the long term, following PAP treatment with enhanced physiotherapist support in a nonresponding patient cohort. In total, 98 patients (48 women) with insufficient physical activity levels, with at least one component of the metabolic syndrome and nonresponding to a previous six-month PAP treatment, were randomized to PAP treatment with enhanced support from a physiotherapist and additional exercise capacity tests during a two-year period. A significant increase in exercise capacity was observed for the whole cohort at two-year follow-up (7.6 W, p <= 0.001), with a medium effect size (r = 0.34). Females (7.3 W, p = 0.025), males (8.0 W, p = 0.018) and patients >= 58 years old (7.7 W, p = 0.002) improved significantly, whereas a nonsignificant increase was observed for patients <58 years old (7.6 W, p = 0.085). Patients with insufficient physical activity levels who did not respond to a previous six-month PAP treatment can improve their exercise capacity following PAP treatment with enhanced support from a physiotherapist during a two-year period. Future studies should include larger cohorts with a control group to ensure valid estimations of exercise capacity and PAP.

  • Thermal stability and mechanical properties of arc evaporated ZrN/ZrAlN multilayers
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Thin Solid Films. - : Elsevier. - 0040-6090 .- 1879-2731. ; 519:2, s. 694-699
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ZrN1.20/Zr0.44Al0.56N1.20 multilayer films as well as ZrN1.17 and Zr0.44Al0.56N1.20 films were deposited by reactive arc evaporation on WC–Co substrates. Samples were post-deposition annealed for 2 h at 800–1200 °C. As-deposited and heat treated films were characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and nanoindentation. The thermal stability was studied using a combination of differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and mass spectrometry. The as-deposited Zr0.44Al0.56N1.20 film exhibits a nanocomposite structure of cubic and wurtzite ZrAlN. During annealing, the formation of ZrN- and AlN-rich domains results in age hardening of both the Zr0.44Al0.56N1.20 and the ZrN/ZrAlN multilayers. The age hardening is enhanced in the ZrN/ZrAlN multilayer due to straining of the ZrAlN sublayers in which a maximum hardness of 31 GPa is obtained after annealing at 1100 °C.

  • Spitzer Microlensing Parallax for OGLE-2017-BLG-0896 Reveals a Counter-rotating Low-mass Brown Dwarf
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astronomical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-6256 .- 1538-3881. ; 157:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The kinematics of isolated brown dwarfs in the Galaxy, beyond the solar neighborhood, is virtually unknown. Microlensing has the potential to probe this hidden population, as it can measure both the mass and five of the six phase-space coordinates (all except the radial velocity) even of a dark isolated lens. However, the measurements of both the microlens-parallax and finite-source effects are needed in order to recover the full information. Here, we combine the Spitzer satellite parallax measurement with the ground-based light curve, which exhibits strong finite-source effects, of event OGLE-2017-BLG-0896. We find two degenerate solutions for the lens (due to the known satellite-parallax degeneracy), which are consistent with each other except for their proper motion. The lens is an isolated brown dwarf with a mass of either 18 +/- 1 M-J or 20 +/- 1 M-J. This is the lowest isolated-object mass measurement to date, only similar to 45% more massive than the theoretical deuterium-fusion boundary at solar metallicity, which is the common definition of a free-floating planet. The brown dwarf is located at either 3.9 +/- 0.1 kpc or 4.1 +/- 0.1 kpc toward the Galactic bulge, but with proper motion in the opposite direction of disk stars, with one solution suggesting it is moving within the Galactic plane. While it is possibly a halo brown dwarf, it might also represent a different, unknown population.

  • Histopathological investigation of colon liver metastases–which factors affect survival after surgery?
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0036-5521 .- 1502-7708. ; 58:6, s. 627-633
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Novel therapeutic options have improved prognosis for patients with colonic liver metastases (CLM) over the last decades. Despite this, the challenge to select and stratify patients for optimal treatment regimen persists. This study aimed to evaluate established and novel histopathological features and investigate the impact on overall survival (OS) and recurrence in patients undergoing surgery for CLM. Methods: Two hundred and sixty patients who underwent resection of CLM with curative intent 2006–2017 were included in the study. Clinicopathological characteristics were retrieved from patient medical records. The following histopathological parameters were investigated: vascular/lymphatic invasion, perineural invasion, tumor regression grade (TRG), tumor growth pattern, pseudocapsule and acellular mucin. Histopathological traits were correlated to OS. Results: Vascular and lymphatic invasion, as well as perineural invasion, significantly correlated with an adverse prognosis hazard ratio (HR) = 1.7, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.23–2.40 and HR = 1.7, 95% CI 1.20–2.51, respectively. Results retrieved from the study could not propose any novel explorative histopathological features (TRG, tumor growth pattern, pseudocapsule and acellular mucin) to be of significant value as comes correlation with patient OS. Discussion: Classical histopathological characteristics of previously reported influence on survival were confirmed, while more novel factors that has been proposed, like tumor growth pattern, tumor regression and grade and presence of a pseudocapsule, were not. Further studies are thus needed to identify better ways of understanding the impact of tumor microenvironment and tumor biology on patient outcome and not at least for stratification and improved treatment response.

  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Elementa. - : University of California Press. - 2325-1026. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2016 Germain-Aubrey et al. Published by the Botanical Society of America. The Amundsen Sea Polynya (ASP) has, on average, the highest productivity per unit area in Antarctic waters. To investigate community structure and the role that zooplankton may play in utilizing this productivity, animals were collected at six stations inside and outside the ASP using paired "day-night" tows with a 1 m2 MOCNESS. Stations were selected according to productivity based on satellite imagery, distance from the ice edge, and depth of the water column. Depths sampled were stratified from the surface to ∼ 50-100 m above the seafloor. Macrozooplankton were also collected at four stations located in different parts of the ASP using a 2 m2 Metro Net for krill surface trawls (0-120 m). The most abundant groups of zooplankton were copepods, ostracods, and euphausiids. Zooplankton biovolume (0.001 to 1.22 ml m-3) and abundance (0.21 to 97.5 individuals m-3) varied throughout all depth levels, with a midsurface maximum trend at ∼ 60-100 m. A segregation of increasing zooplankton trophic position with depth was observed in the MOCNESS tows. In general, zooplankton abundance was low above the mixed layer depth, a result attributed to a thick layer of the unpalatable colonial haptophyte, Phaeocystis antarctica. Abundances of the ice krill, Euphausia crystallarophias, however, were highest near the edge of the ice sheet within the ASP and larvae:adult ratios correlated with temperature above a depth of 60 m. Total zooplankton abundance correlated positively with chlorophyll a above 150 m, but negative correlations observed for biovolume vs. the proportion of P. antarctica in the phytoplankton estimated from pigment ratios (19'hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin:fucoxanthin) again pointed to avoidance of P. antarctica. Quantifying zooplankton community structure, abundance, and biovolume (biomass) in this highly productive polynya helps shed light on how carbon may be transferred to higher trophic levels and to depth in a region undergoing rapid warming.

  • Impact on quality of life of IMRT versus 3-D conformal radiation therapy in head and neck cancer patients: A case control study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Advances in Radiation Oncology. - : Elsevier BV. - 2452-1094. ; 2:3, s. 346-353
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective The purpose of this study was to prospectively and longitudinally compare the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes between head and neck (HN) cancer patients treated with parotid-sparing intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and patients treated with 3-dimensional conventional radiation therapy (3D-CRT). Methods and materials Before and up to 12 months after treatment, HRQOL was recorded in patients with HN cancer who were referred to the Department of Oncology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital for curative IMRT. The study group's HRQOL was compared with a matched group of patients from previous descriptive HRQOL studies treated with 3D-CRT. Both groups' HRQOL was measured by the European Organization for Research and Treatment for Cancer QLQ-C30 and European Organization for Research and Treatment for Cancer QLQ-HN35 at 6 time points in the first year after diagnosis. Results Two hundred and seven patients were included, 111 treated with IMRT and 96 matched controls treated with 3D-CRT. Both groups' HRQOL deteriorated during and after treatment. Just after treatment, worse HRQOL scores were observed in the IMRT group regarding insomnia (38 vs 27; P = .032), appetite loss (64 vs 50; P = .019), senses (54 vs 41; P = .017), and coughing (39 vs 26, P = .009). At 12 months, however, significantly better HRQOL scores were observed in the IMRT group regarding problems with dry mouth (72 vs 62; P = .018), pain (28 vs 20; P = .018), sexuality (37 vs 23; P = .016), social contacts (10 vs 6; P = .026), cognitive functioning (79 vs 87; P = .0057), and financial difficulties (12 vs 20; P = .0019). Conclusions This study further supports the hypothesis that the introduction of IMRT has improved the long-term quality of life of HN cancer patients who have been treated with radiation therapy, but might cause more acute side effects. Longer follow-up is needed to study late complications.

  • Analyses of apoptotic regulators CASP9 and DFFA at 1P36.2, reveal rare allele variants in human neuroblastoma tumours.

  • Ingår i: British journal of cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0007-0920 .- 1532-1827. ; 86:4, s. 596-604
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The genes encoding Caspase-9 and DFF45 have both recently been mapped to chromosome region 1p36.2, that is a region alleged to involve one or several tumour suppressor genes in neuroblastoma tumours. This study presents an update contig of the 'Smallest Region of Overlap of deletions' in Scandinavian neuroblastoma tumours and suggests that DFF45 is localized in the region. The genomic organization of the human DFF45 gene, deduced by in-silico comparisons of DNA sequences, is described for the first time in this paper. In the present study 44 primary tumours were screened for mutation by analysis of the genomic sequences of the genes. In two out of the 44 tumours this detected in the DFFA gene one rare allele variant that caused a non-polar to a polar amino acid exchange in a preserved hydrophobic patch of DFF45. One case was hemizygous due to deletion of the more common allele of this polymorphism. Out of 194 normal control alleles only one was found to carry this variant allele, so in respect of it, no healthy control individual out of 97 was homozygous. Moreover, our RT-PCR expression studies showed that DFF45 is preferably expressed in low-stage neuroblastoma tumours and to a lesser degree in high-stage neuroblastomas. We conclude that although coding mutations of Caspase-9 and DFF45 are infrequent in neuroblastoma tumours, our discovery of a rare allele in two neuroblastoma cases should be taken to warrant further studies of the role of DFF45 in neuroblastoma genetics.

  • Treatment with sorafenib and sunitinib in renal cell cancer: a Swedish register-based study.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Medical oncology (Northwood, London, England). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1559-131X .- 1357-0560. ; 30:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sorafenib and sunitinib are used for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The objective was to study the treatment duration and time to death in Swedish RCC patients on sorafenib or sunitinib as first-line or monotherapy or as sequential therapy. Patients with an RCC diagnosis were identified in the Swedish Cancer Register. Information on treatment with sorafenib and sunitinib was collected from the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register, and time of death from the Cause of Death Register. Outcome measures were duration of treatment and time to death on sorafenib or sunitinib as first-line or monotherapy and sequential therapy (sorafenib-sunitinib versus sunitinib-sorafenib). Poisson regression models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). No difference was observed for sorafenib (n=123 patients) versus sunitinib (n=261 patients) in treatment duration (HR 1.00; CI 0.80-1.24) or risk for death (HR 1.30; CI 0.91-1.85) when used as first-line or monotherapy. The same applied for sequential therapy with sorafenib-sunitinib (n=43 patients) versus sunitinib-sorafenib (n=54 patients), HR 1.47 (CI 0.71-3.02) and HR 2.01 (CI 0.86-4.68), respectively. There was a difference between the two treatments in how the duration of first-line treatment influenced the duration of second-line treatment and time to death, in favor of starting with sorafenib. In conclusion, no difference was detected between sorafenib and sunitinib in the duration of treatment or time to death when used as first-line or monotherapy. The impact of the duration of first-line treatment differed between the two sequences, and the results indicated that sorafenib as first-line treatment is a favorable choice.

  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the IADIS International Conference on Game and Entertainment Technologies. - : IADIS Press. - 9789728939182 ; , s. 35-44
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article presents the process of creating the game Testament; an action role-playing game for PC which uses the Old Testament as its setting. The game is primarily designed for confirmation education in the Church of Sweden, with the purpose to create interest in the Old Testament. In this paper we describe our experiences with the process of creating a game  where  the  work  has  been  guided  by  three,  in  some  cases,  contradictory  goals:  the  educational  value,  the  source authenticity and the gaming entertainment.  Our  conclusion  is  that  clear  requirements  for  the  entertainment  must  be  created  as  a  counterweight  to  the  practical aspects' requirements, e.g. education and authenticity. To create requirements  for game experience, it can be useful to identify a game genre and find a game that can serve as a template. One consequence of the fact that a specific goal for entertainment and a very clear requirement on content existed was that a number of fundamental contradictions could be identified  (e.g.  narrative,  game  mechanics,  adaptation).  When  these  inconsistencies  were  encountered,  a  suitable approach could be chosen in order to reach a compromise. If an existing game used as a reference wasn't available, it is likely that the entertainment would have suffered for the benefit of the educational aspects and biblical authenticity.

  • 2015
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the current article it is analyzed how ideas of PT-symmetricquantum mechanics can be applied to quantum graphs, in particular tothe star graph. The class of rotationally-symmetric vertex conditionsis analyzed. It is shown that all such conditions can effectively be described bycirculant  matrices: real in the case of odd number of edges and complex having particular block structure  in the even case. Spectral properties of thecorresponding operators are discussed.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adaptive comparative judgment (ACJ), a relatively new approach to assessment, has proven valid, reliable, and feasible for the assessment of open-ended design problems. The use of ACJ for assessment has shown positive results in various countries around the world. The potential for ACJ, as a tool for international collaboration in assessment, has not yet been addressed. Preliminary findings from a study involving ACJ use in three countries (United States, United Kingdom, and Sweden) and future directions for research are shared.

  • 2008
  • Ingår i: ICAS Secr. - Int. Counc. Aeronaut. Sci. ICAS. - 9781605607153 ; , s. 1718-1727
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An overview of a novel variable-fidelity aerostructural computational suite targeted for prediction at the conceptual design phase is presented herein. The computational suite consists of two primary modules known as CADac (Computer Aided Design Aircraft) and NeoCASS (Next generation Conceptual Aero-Structural Sizing Suite). The methodology is based upon the integration of geometry construction, aerodynamic and structural analysis codes that combine depictive, computational, analytical, and semiempirical methods, validated in an aircraft design environment. The aerodynamics sub-space is analyzed using methods based upon a Vortex-Lattice Method used to examine large structural deformations, a Doublet Lattice Method in order to predict flutter boundaries in the subsonic speed regime, and, an Euler based method to cater for identification of flutter points in the transonic regime. A quasi-analytical method that provides accurate weights estimation and refined prediction of airframe moments of inertia data has also been introduced, thus facilitating a more comprehensive investigation of the quasi-static aeroelastic problem. To illustrate the new computational system capabilities, the methodology was applied to a complete flexible structural model of the B747-100 transport aircraft. The quasianalytical weight prediction of the NeoCASS suite was found to generate an accuracy of less than 0.5% error compared to published results.

  • 2020

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature Medicine. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1078-8956 .- 1546-170X. ; 25:10, s. 1540-1548
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An aim of molecular biomarkers is to stratify patients with cancer into disease subtypes predictive of outcome, improving diagnostic precision beyond clinical descriptors such as tumor stage(1). Transcriptomic intratumor heterogeneity (RNA-ITH) has been shown to confound existing expression-based biomarkers across multiple cancer types(2-6). Here, we analyze multi-region whole-exome and RNA sequencing data for 156 tumor regions from 48 patients enrolled in the TRACERx study to explore and control for RNA-ITH in non-small cell lung cancer. We find that chromosomal instability is a major driver of RNA-ITH, and existing prognostic gene expression signatures are vulnerable to tumor sampling bias. To address this, we identify genes expressed homogeneously within individual tumors that encode expression modules of cancer cell proliferation and are often driven by DNA copy-number gains selected early in tumor evolution. Clonal transcriptomic biomarkers overcome tumor sampling bias, associate with survival independent of clinicopathological risk factors, and may provide a general strategy to refine biomarker design across cancer types.

  • High level of protection against COVID-19 after two doses of BNT162b2 vaccine in the working age population–first results from a cohort study in Southern Sweden
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Infectious Diseases. - : Informa UK Limited. - 2374-4235 .- 2374-4243. ; 54:2, s. 128-133
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 needs to be assessed in diverse real-world population settings. Methods: A cohort study of 805,741 residents in Skåne county, Southern Sweden, aged 18–64 years, of whom 26,587 received at least one dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine. Incidence rates of COVID-19 were estimated in sex- and age-adjusted analysis and stratified in two-week periods with substantial community spread of the disease. Results: The estimated vaccine effectiveness in preventing infection ≥7 days after second dose was 86% (95% CI 72–94%) but only 42% (95% CI 14–63%) ≥14 days after a single dose. No difference in vaccine effectiveness was observed between females and males. Having a prior positive test was associated with 91% (95% CI 85–94%) effectiveness against new infection among the unvaccinated. Conclusion: A satisfactory effectiveness of BNT162b2 after the second dose was suggested, but with possibly substantially lower effect before the second dose.

  • Ingår i: Optics Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 0030-4018 .- 1873-0310. ; 282:2, s. 258-262
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report five-user quantum key distribution (QKD) over switched fiber networks in both star and tree configurations, using the BB84-protocol [1] with phase encoding. Both setups implement polarization insensitive phase modulators, necessary for birefringent single mode fiber (SMF) networks. In both configurations we have achieved transmission distances between 25 km and 50 km with quantum bit error rates between 1.24% and 5.56% for the mean photon number l ¼ 0:1. The measurements have showed feasibility of multiuser QKD over switched fiber networks, using standard fiber telecom components.

  • Modellerade miljöeffekter - för bättre ersättningar till jordbrukare
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Policy brief / AgriFood Economics Centre.

  • Autonomy by Decree: How Administrative Law Shapes Bureaucratic Autonomy in Four Administrative Traditions
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Administration and Society. - 0095-3997 .- 1552-3039. ; 56:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Administrative law is a not a frequent subject of research in public administration, but it can reveal a great deal about the functioning of the public sector and governance in general. The nature of administrative law is, we argue, closely linked with administrative traditions, and therefore administrative law is an especially apt focus for comparative analysis. This article discusses administrative law in four countries representing different administrative traditions. The perspective is that of the student of public governance, rather than that of the lawyer, with the principal concern here understanding bureaucratic autonomy within the administrative system.

  • The best laid plans?: international governance perspectives in AMR national action plans in Europe
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Public Health. - 1101-1262. ; 33:4, s. 682-686
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background There is a broad consensus in the European public health community that international collaboration and coordination are key in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Yet, while experts typically testify the importance of cross-national learning and a coordinated effort to reduce the spread of multi-resistant bacteria, there are mixed views about how that is best realized in practice, particularly on the dichotomy between horizontal and vertical activities. Methods National action plans (NAP) from all EU member states were systematically overviewed by two independent researchers. We followed a fixed procedure for locating a broad and comparable content on the international dimensions, and letting these vary on scales. Results We find that countries adhere to four different strategies for international coordination, varying between 'high' and 'low' on values of vertical and horizontal activities. Most countries spend none or very little space to discuss international activities, while some countries use their NAPs to outline their aspiration for taking leading roles in the international struggle. Moreover, in line with previous research, we find that many countries directly mimic the Global Action Plan, but also that a large share of countries describe independent arrangements in their international strategies. Conclusions European countries recognize AMR and its inherent international governance challenge differently in their NAPs, which may have implications for coordinated action to address the issue.
