Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- A study of excited states in Ni-63 up to an excitation energy of 28 MeV and a probable spin of 57/2 was carried out with the Mg-26(Ca-48,2 alpha 3n gamma)Ni-63 reaction at beam energies between 275 and 320 MeV. Three collective bands, built upon states of single-particle character, were identified. For two of the three bands, the transition quadrupole moments were extracted, herewith quantifying the deformation at high spin. The results have been compared with shell-model and cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. Despite the Z = 28 shell closure and the approach to the purported N = 40 subshell, the Ni-63 isotope is able to sustain collective excitations at moderate and high spin.

Shape coexistence and high-K states in 74Se populated following the β decay of 74Br

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Excited states in 74Se were populated following the ε/β + decay of 74Br, mainly from the J=K=4, 13.8-keV β-decaying isomer. Off-beam γ-ray spectroscopy was performed with the array of Clover HPGe detectors at WNSL Yale. Many new transitions were observed and rigorous spin assignments were made based on γ-γ angular correlations. The β-decay strength was found to proceed almost entirely to a few high-lying states near 4500 keV, which are consistent with deformed two-quasineutron high-K configurations. These doorway states then provide an effective tool for populating and identifying the lower prolate structures. Once categorized, the low-lying states of 74Se can be described as a set of near-spherical vibrational levels mixing strongly with a spectrum of prolate states which have an unperturbed bandhead near 1350 keV. © 2013 American Physical Society.

β decay spectroscopy of light Nd isotopes

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Excited states in 132,134Nd were populated in the β+/ε decay of 132,134Pm and studied through off-beam γ-ray spectroscopy. Level spins and multipole mixing ratios of transitions were determined through an angular correlation analysis. In 132Nd, a new excited 0+ state is identified and in 134Nd the level scheme is significantly extended. Differences in the location of the 02+ state and the γ bandhead above and below N=82 suggest that the lighter isotopes are much more γ-soft than the heavier Nd and that a first-order phase transitional description is not applicable in the N
