  • Decreased sexual function in partners after patients’ first-time myocardial infarction
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. - : Sage Publications. - 1474-5151 .- 1873-1953. ; 17:6, s. 521-526
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: A myocardial infarction event affects not only patients but also partners, although how it affects the partners’ sexual function is not studied.Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe and compare how partners experienced their sexual function one year before with one year after first-time myocardial infarction of their partner. Methods: A longitudinal and comparative design was used. Self-reported data on Watts Sexual Function Questionnaire was collected retrospectively at two occasions from 123 partners (87 women and 36 men), measuring the year prior to the first-time myocardial infarction and the year after. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The total score for Watts Sexual Function Questionnaire showed a significant decrease over time. In all four subscales a decrease was found, which were statistically significant in three out of the four subscales (sexual desire, 19.39 vs 18.61; p<0.001, orgasm, 14.11 vs 13.64; p=0.027 and satisfaction, 12.61 vs 12.31; p=0.042). Twenty-six partners reported that their intercourse frequencies decreased over time, while six partners reported an increased intercourse frequency. Conclusions: Partners’ sexual function decreased after patients’ first-time myocardial infarction. It is important for health personnel to offer information and discussion about sexual function and concerns with both patients and partners after a first-time myocardial infarction.

  • Long-term effect of hand-arm vibration on thermotactile perception thresholds
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1745-6673. ; 13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Occupational exposure to hand-transmitted vibration (HTV) is known to cause neurological symptoms such as numbness, reduced manual dexterity, grip strength and sensory perception. The purpose of this longitudinal study was to compare thermotactile perception thresholds for cold (TPTC) and warmth (TPTW) among vibration exposed manual workers and unexposed white collar workers during a follow-up period of 16 years to elucidate if long-term vibration exposure is related to a change in TPT over time. Methods: The study group consisted of male workers at a production workshop at which some of them were exposed to HTV. They were investigated in 1992 and followed-up in 2008. All participants were physically examined and performed TPT bilaterally at the middle and distal phalanges of the second finger. Two different vibration exposure dosages were calculated for each individual, i.e. the individual cumulative lifetime dose (mh/s2) or a lifetime 8-h equivalent daily exposure (m/s(2)). Results: A significant mean threshold difference was found for all subjects of about 4-5 degrees C and 1-2 degrees C in TPTW and TPTC, respectively, between follow-up and baseline. No significant mean difference in TPTC between vibration exposed and non-exposed workers at each occasion could be stated to exist. For TPTW a small but significant difference was found for the right index finger only. Age was strongly related to thermotactile perception threshold. The 8-h equivalent exposure level (A (8)) dropped from about 1.3 m/s2 in 1992 to about 0.7 m/s(2) in 2008. Conclusions: A lifetime 8-h equivalent daily exposure to hand-transmitted vibration less than 1.3 m/s(2) does not have a significant effect on thermotactile perception. Age, however, has a significant impact on the change of temperature perception thresholds why this covariate has to be considered when using TPT as a tool for health screening.

  • Dance and Revival – from a Swedish Perspective
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Folklore Revival Movements in Europe post 1950 Shifting Contexts and Perspectives / Daniela Stavělová and Theresa Jill Buckland (eds). - Prag : Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. - 9788088081227 ; , s. 345-350
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article outlines the background to the Swedish dance revival of the 1970s and the impact on today’s dancing of folk dances. The primary idea is that folk dances are not the dances of the people but a product of folk dance clubs. Folk dances were stylized in folk dance clubs from 1880 onwards, mainly for presentational purposes. The revivalists of the 1970s wanted the folkdances to be participatory and become closer to popular dances. Today, dancing at folk dance clubs co-exists with the revivalist dancing, mainly at folk music festivals and other dance events outside the folk dance clubs.

  • Udržte tancování při životě. Několik osobních postřehů o tanci jako tradici a dědictví : Keep Dancing Alive. Some personal remarks on dance as tradition and heritage
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Národopisná revue. - 0862-8351. ; :nr 3/2015, s. 291-296
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article discusses tradition versus heritage with example from Scandinavian (mainly Swedish) polska dance. The author also puts forward an idea how to understand a difference between the concepts tradition and heritage, and argues that it is the dancing that primarily must be taken into consideration, not the dances as such. Using heritage has a tendency to focus on the dances, while thinking of the concept of tradition more emphasizes dancing, the ongoing process of dance. This is an important distinction not least in the light of the UNESCO ideas about intangible cultural heritage. The consequence of intangible cultural heritage is that dance is seen more as objects, dances, instead of a process, dancing, since becoming certified heritage needs documentation. Documents are products, not processes, even if they are documents describing processes. The process of documentation creates artefacts put in archives that become heritage, dances, describing the process of dancing. The article does not want to define the concepts of heritage and tradition, but rather use the words to help us understand what happens when we create what is mostly called intangible cultural heritage.

  • Dancing with Strindberg: A social perspective
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Dream-playing across borders: accessing the non-texts of Strindberg’s A dream play in Düsseldorf 1915–18 and beyond / Astrid von Rosen (ed.). - Göteborg : Makadam. - 9789170612329 ; , s. 122-136
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In “Dancing with Strindberg: A Social Perspective”, Astrid von Rosen and Mats Nilsson and explore social dance in Strindberg’s context; the results are then brought back to Düsseldorf in my chapter. We argue that a corporeal and social analysis of the waltz considerably improves our ability to understand emotionally and politically charged dimensions of A Dream Play. While this practical work differs greatly from traditional text-based approaches, it relates to current explorations where practice-based researchers collaborate with humanities scholars. In the words of Tracy C. Davies and Barnaby King, a new creative research model is emerging “that functions contiguously with an archivally based model in that it engages evidence, posits new knowledge, and activates debate”. As dance is still a relatively rare theme in Strindbergian scholarship, we think a more embodied approach to archival investigations opens the way for further critical explorations in the future.

  • Waltzing with Strindberg: Exploring Practices of Memory in A Dream Play
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Dance. - 1891-6708. ; 8:1, s. 4-14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this article is to explore dance as practices of memory in Strindberg’s A Dream Play in order to get a more critically productive understanding of the drama. Employing Diana Taylor’s term “the repertoire” – referring to practices of memory – we juxtapose the dramatic text with an analysis of a 1980 TV-production of the drama. As a result we strongly suggest that paying attention to dance in A Dream Play can give considerably improved access to disappeared memories or lived parts of psychologically, socially and politically charged practices and contexts. Such lively dimensions are difficult to archive in traditional ways, but as we demonstrate they can become more accessible if the “repertoire” – for example in the form of dance practices – is chosen as perspective. What is presented in the article draws on and further expands our work within the project “Dream-Playing across Borders”, at the University of Gothenburg.
