  • Dissociation Reactions of the Be-11 One-Neutron Halo - the Interplay between Structure and Reaction-Mechanism
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 304:1-2, s. 55-59
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The angular distributions of the forward neutrons in the exclusive (Be-10 + n) channel have been measured. They can be accounted for quantitatively and without free parameters in terms of Coulomb and diffraction dissociation. The results show that the transverse momentum distributions result from an interplay between the tail of the wave function (the halo) and the reaction mechanism.

  • Exclusive and Restricted-Inclusive Reactions Involving the Be-11 One-Neutron Halo
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 575:1, s. 125-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reactions of a 41 MeV/u beam of the radioactive halo nucleus Be-11 have been studied with a counter telescope coupled to an array of neutron detectors covering angles up to 97-degrees. The technique allows to determine single-neutron inclusive and exclusive angular distributions. The targets (Be, Ti and Au) were chosen to illustrate the relative roles played by nuclear and Coulomb mechanisms. The channels leading to Be-10, the dissociation channels, correspond to impact parameters larger than the sum of the radii of the target and the Be-10 core. It is shown that for the dissociation process it is possible to account almost quantitatively for the integral, single- and double-differential cross sections from models without free parameters including the Coulomb, Serber and Glauber (diffraction-dissociation) mechanisms. The neutron distributions from the nondissociative reaction channels show little individuality and it is convenient to group them together as the channel ''neutron plus anything different from Be-10''. We refer to these as ''restricted-inclusive'' reactions. These seem to be a promising tool for obtaining accurate information on the halo wave function in momentum coordinates.

  • Beta-Decay to the Proton Halo State in F-17
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693. ; 317:1-2, s. 25-30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the first experiment at the newly constructed ISOLDE Facility the first-forbidden beta-decay of Ne-17 into the first excited state of F-17 has been measured. It is a factor two faster than the corresponding mirror decay and thus gives one of the largest recorded asymmetries for beta decays feeding bound final states. Shell-model calculations can only reproduce the asymmetry if the halo structure of the F-17 state is taken into account.

  • Study of Charged-Particles Emitted in the Beta-Decay of He-6,He-8
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics A. - 0375-9474. ; 560:2, s. 664-676
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The beta-delayed charged particle spectra from He-6 and He-8 were measured with a telescope consisting of a gas counter and a Si surface barrier detector. Beta-delayed deuterons and tritons are emitted in the two cases with branching ratios of (7.6 +/- 0.6) x 10(-6), E(d) > 350 keV and (8.0 +/- 0.5) x 10(-3), respectively. Both spectra present anomalies that must be due to the special structure of these nuclei (an alpha core surrounded by several neutrons).

  • Super-Allowed Beta-Decay of Nuclei at the Drip-Line
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Zeitschrift fur Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei. - 1431-5831 .- 0939-7922. ; 340:3, s. 255-261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have investigated the continuous particle spectra following the beta decay of the neutron-rich nuclei that terminate the mass 6, 8, 9 and 11 isobaric chains. Strong beta transitions feeding the very top of the spectrum are found systematically. The favoured states are within a few MeV of the energy of the initial state. This phenomenon seems to be linked to the occurrence of a di-neutron structure or neutron halo in the drip-line nuclei.

  • Experimental-Determination of Cross-Talk between Neutron Detectors
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - 0168-9002. ; 317:1-2, s. 273-280
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron cross-talk measurements have been performed with 14.1 MeV neutrons for organic scintillator detectors with n-gamma discrimination capability. The probability for cross-talk between two 156 mm thick neutron detectors with a hexagonal cross section (effective diameter 167 mm) placed 0.33 m apart was found to be (2.5+/-1.1) 10(-4). A similar measurement between two 100 mm thick, cylindrically shaped detectors with 50 mm diameter and at 75 mm distance from each other yielded a cross-talk probability of (2.5+/-0.4) 10(-3). The measured cross-talk probabilities are in agreement with values from a Monte Carlo calculation.

  • Dose-response effects of boiled carrots and effects of carrots in lactic acid in mixed meals on glycaemic response and satiety
  • 1994
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. - 0954-3007. ; 48:6, s. 386-396
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To evaluate the effect of dosage on the metabolic response to vegetables added to a mixed lunch meal, and to relate the amounts to the tripartite plate model. Carrots were chosen as an example, and the carrots were blanched, frozen and boiled to include possible effects of processing and cooking. The effects of carrots steeped in lactic acid, as produced at fermentation, were also studied. Design: The test meals with carrots, and the control meal without vegetables, were balanced regarding energy (2000 kJ) and digestible carbohydrates (60 g) and similar in fat (17 g) and protein (16-19 g) content. The carrot portions of 100, 200 and 300 g contained 2.9, 5.8 and 8.7 g dietary fibre respectively. The meals were served in the morning after an overnight fast and in random order. Blood samples for the analysis of blood glucose, plasma insulin and C-peptide were collected and satiety was graded until 210 min postprandially. Setting: The study was performed at the research laboratory, Dalby Health Sciences Centre (primary care). Subjects: The 10 healthy, male volunteers, around 40 years of age, were recruited at random from the district's population list. None dropped out. Results: The larger the carrot portion the lower were the glucose and insulin/C-peptide responses and the higher the satiety scores. The minimum amount causing significant effects was 200 g. According to the plate model, 200 g of boiled carrots was the most that could be included on half the plate. Addition of lactic acid to 200 g carrots augmented the effects on satiety scores and hormonal response. Conclusions: The addition of generous amounts of vegetables to a mixed meal improves the metabolic response.

  • Effects of different vegetables in mixed meals on glucose homeostasis and satiety
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. - 0954-3007. ; 47:3, s. 192-200
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Different vegetables--carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts and spinach--were added to a typical Swedish lunch test meal in portions of 96-164 g. The test and the control meals without vegetables were balanced with respect to digestible carbohydrates (59.7 g) and energy (2000 kJ, 475 kcal), and as far as possible also concerning protein and fat. The added vegetables contained 4.4 g dietary fibre. The meals were prepared by microwave heating and served in the morning after an overnight fast to 10 healthy, male volunteers. Postprandial blood glucose, plasma insulin and C-peptide levels were measured at regular intervals until 210 min. The satiety was graded on a simple scale of 1-10. The meal with spinach elicited significantly lower insulin and C-peptide responses than the control meal, but no significant differences in glucose response or satiety were observed. The other vegetables tested showed no significant effects either on glucose and hormonal responses or on satiety.

  • Study of Neutron Rich Neon Isotopes
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Zeitschrift fur Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei. - 1431-5831 .- 0939-7922. ; 342:3, s. 303-307
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The half-lives and P(n)-values of the neutron rich isotopes Ne-26-29 have been determined. The results are compared to shell-model calculations and good agreement is found except for Ne-29, where the half-life exceeds the predictions by more than an order of magnitude. This unexpectedly long half-life can be explained as due to a fp intruder configuration.

  • Rheological and Chemical Properties of Mucilage in Different Varieties from Linseed (Linum Usitatissimum)
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0001-5121. ; 41:3, s. 311-319
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The rheological properties of linseed mucilage from different flax (Linum usitatissimum) varieties have been measured as well as the polysaccharide content and composition. The viscosity varied over a wide range from 0.02 to 0.28 Pas for 1 % solutions. It increased with increasing concentration and decreased with increasing shear rate. Depending on the variety and the concentration, the mucilage could behave like a viscous fluid, viscoelastic fluid or as a nearly elastic body. Both the elasticity and the viscosity increased with increasing proportion of xylose residues and decreasing proportion of uronic acids in the polysaccharides.
