Three Shades of Prosumer-to-Business Interaction in Business Networks

- Prosumerism has not yet been discussed and linked to effects on the business network. Facing different forms of prosumerism and with little attention to the embedded contexts, managers and researchers have limited guiding from the current literature on prosumerism. In this paper, we compare three case studies which represent different shades of prosumption and prosumer-to-business interaction in network-embedded contexts, and discuss implications for managers and research. The paper contributes to the business-to-business interaction approach; exploring and discussing effects and characteristics of prosumption within business networks, it provides means for understanding the connectedness of prosumer-to-business interaction in business networks.

- An agent-based simulation model for supporting the decision making in urban transport planning is presented. The model can be used to investigate how different transport infrastructure investments and policy instruments will affect the travel choices of passengers. We identified four main categories of factors influencing the choice of travel: cost, time, convenience, and social norm. However, travelers value these factors differently depending on their in-dividual characteristics, such as age, income, work flexibility and environmen-tal engagement, as well as on external factors, such as the weather. Moreover, instead of modeling the transport system explicitly, online web services are used to generate travel options. The model can support transport planners by providing estimations of modal share, as well as economical and environmental consequences. As a first step towards validation of the model, we have con-ducted a simple case study of three scenarios where we analyze the effects of changes to the public transport fares on commuters’ travel choices in the Malmö-Lund region in Sweden.

- The paper aims to develop image segmentation algorithms for classification of multi-sensor data in urban areas. For this purpose an algorithm called KTHSEG has been developed using an edge-aware region growing and merging algorithm. Four-date ENVISAT ASAR C-HH data and one-date HJ-1B covering the city of Shanghai acquired during the vegetation season of 2009 were selected this research. The results show that the segmentation algorithm is effective for urban land cover classification using SAR and optical data. The results also confirm that the fusion of SAR and optical data is beneficial for urban land cover mapping. Further, the study showed that the combination of one SAR and one optical scene is enough to achieve good results and the addition of multitemporal SAR data from the same beam mode does not improve classification accuracy.

The Impact of Background Removal on Performance of Neural Networks for Fashion Image Classification and Segmentation

- Fashion understanding is a hot topic in computer vision, with many applications having great business value in the market. Fashion understanding remains a difficult challenge for computer vision due to the immense diversity of garments and various scenes and backgrounds. In this work, we try removing the background from fashion images to boost data quality and increase model performance. Having fashion images of evident persons in fully visible garments, we can utilize Salient Object Detection to achieve the background removal of fashion data to our expectations. A fashion image with the background removed is claimed as the ”rembg” image, contrasting with the original one in the fashion dataset. We conducted extensive comparative experiments with these two types of images on multiple aspects of model training, including model architectures, model initialization, compatibility with other training tricks and data augmentations, and target task types. Our experiments show that background removal can effectively work for fashion data in simple and shallow networks that are not susceptible to overfitting. It can improve model accuracy by up to 5% in the classification on the FashionStyle14 dataset when training models from scratch. However, background removal does not perform well in deep neural networks due to incompatibility with other regularization techniques like batch normalization, pre-trained initialization, and data augmentations introducing randomness. The loss of background pixels invalidates many existing training tricks in the model training, adding the risk of overfitting for deep models.

- OBJECTIVES: Only a little research has focused on the evaluation of female sexual function. With sexual stimulation, the clitoris becomes engorged with blood and tumescent. Nevertheless, only little is known about the significance of the cyclic nucleotide-mediated signal transduction in the control of this process. We sought to elucidate the presence of the phosphodiesterase (PDE) isoenzymes 3, 4, and 5 in the human clitoris using immunohistochemical and molecular biology methods.METHODS: Thin sections of clitoral specimens were incubated with primary antibodies directed against PDE isoenzymes 3, 4, and 5. Next, the sections were incubated with either Texas red or fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled secondary antibodies, and visualization was done using laser microscopy. The expression of mRNA encoding for various PDE isoenzymes was evaluated using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS: Immunofluorescence indicating the presence of PDE4 (cyclic adenosine monophosphate-PDE) was observed in the nonvascular smooth musculature of the corpus cavernosum clitoris, sinusoidal endothelial and subendothelial layers, and nerve fibers innervating the tissue. Immunoreactivity specific for PDE5 (cyclic guanosine monophosphate-PDE) was limited to the smooth muscle of the clitoral erectile tissue. The fluorescein isothiocyanate reaction indicating the expression of PDE3 (cyclic adenosine monophosphate-PDE) was registered to a certain degree only in the clitoral epidermis. In the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction studies, a predominant expression of mRNA encoding for PDE1A was registered, but only small amounts of mRNA encoding for PDE4 and PDE5 were detected.CONCLUSIONS: Our results have demonstrated the presence of cyclic adenosine monophosphate-PDE and cyclic guanosine monophosphate-PDE in the human clitoris and may indicate a regulatory function of these enzymes in the cyclic nucleotide-mediated control of smooth muscle tone.
