  • Examining the generalizability of research findings from archival data
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 119:30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This initiative examined systematically the extent to which a large set of archival research findings generalizes across contexts. We repeated the key analyses for 29 original strategic management effects in the same context (direct reproduction) as well as in 52 novel time periods and geographies; 45% of the reproductions returned results matching the original reports together with 55% of tests in different spans of years and 40% of tests in novel geographies. Some original findings were associated with multiple new tests. Reproducibility was the best predictor of generalizability-for the findings that proved directly reproducible, 84% emerged in other available time periods and 57% emerged in other geographies. Overall, only limited empirical evidence emerged for context sensitivity. In a forecasting survey, independent scientists were able to anticipate which effects would find support in tests in new samples.

  • The potential of Λ and Ξ- studies with PANDA at FAIR
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 57:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: p¯ p→ Λ¯ Λ and p¯ p→ Ξ¯ +Ξ-. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA.

  • Study of excited Ξ baryons with the P¯ ANDA detector
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 57:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The study of baryon excitation spectra provides insight into the inner structure of baryons. So far, most of the world-wide efforts have been directed towards N∗ and Δ spectroscopy. Nevertheless, the study of the double and triple strange baryon spectrum provides independent information to the N∗ and Δ spectra. The future antiproton experiment P¯ANDA will provide direct access to final states containing a Ξ¯ Ξ pair, for which production cross sections up to μb are expected in p¯p reactions. With a luminosity of L= 10 31 cm- 2 s- 1 in the first phase of the experiment, the expected cross sections correspond to a production rate of ∼106events/day. With a nearly 4 π detector acceptance, P¯ANDA will thus be a hyperon factory. In this study, reactions of the type p¯p → Ξ¯ +Ξ∗ - as well as p¯p → Ξ¯ ∗ +Ξ- with various decay modes are investigated. For the exclusive reconstruction of the signal events a full decay tree fit is used, resulting in reconstruction efficiencies between 3 and 5%. This allows high statistics data to be collected within a few weeks of data taking.

  • Prospects for fundamental physics with LISA
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: General Relativity and Gravitation. - : SPRINGER/PLENUM PUBLISHERS. - 0001-7701 .- 1572-9532. ; 52:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper, which is of programmatic rather than quantitative nature, we aim to further delineate and sharpen the future potential of the LISA mission in the area of fundamental physics. Given the very broad range of topics that might be relevant to LISA,we present here a sample of what we view as particularly promising fundamental physics directions. We organize these directions through a "science-first" approach that allows us to classify how LISA data can inform theoretical physics in a variety of areas. For each of these theoretical physics classes, we identify the sources that are currently expected to provide the principal contribution to our knowledge, and the areas that need further development. The classification presented here should not be thought of as cast in stone, but rather as a fluid framework that is amenable to change with the flow of new insights in theoretical physics.

  • Isospin Properties of Nuclear Pair Correlations from the Level Structure of the Self-Conjugate Nucleus Ru-88
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 124:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The low-lying energy spectrum of the extremely neutron-deficient self-conjugate (N = Z) nuclide Ru-88(44)44 has been measured using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) spectrometer, the NEDA and Neutron Wall neutron detector arrays, and the DIAMANT charged particle detector array. Excited states in Ru-88 were populated via the Fe-54(Ar-36, 2n gamma)Ru-88* fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex. The observed gamma-ray cascade is assigned to Ru-88 using clean prompt gamma-gamma-2-neutron coincidences in anticoincidence with the detection of charged particles, confirming and extending the previously assigned sequence of low-lying excited states. It is consistent with a moderately deformed rotating system exhibiting a band crossing at a rotational frequency that is significantly higher than standard theoretical predictions with isovector pairing, as well as observations in neighboring N > Z nuclides. The direct observation of such a "delayed" rotational alignment in a deformed N = Z nucleus is in agreement with theoretical predictions related to the presence of strong isoscalar neutron-proton pair correlations.

  • Evidence for enhanced neutron-proton correlations from the levelstructure of the N= Z+ 1 nucleus 8743Tc44
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - : American Physical Society. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 104:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N = Z + 1 nucleus (87)(43)Tcc(44) have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction Fe-54(Ar-36, 2n1p)Tc-87 at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliary NEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt gamma rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of Tc-87 from the (9/2(g.s.)(+)) state to the (33/2(1)(+)) state was established based on six mutually coincident gamma-ray transitions. The constructed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp backbending at (h) over bar omega approximate to 0.50 MeV. A decrease in alignment frequency and increase in alignment sharpness in the odd-mass isotonic chains around N = 44 is proposed as an effect of the enhanced isoscalar neutron-proton interactions in odd-mass nuclei when approaching the N = Z line.

  • Normative Modeling of Brain Morphometry Across the Lifespan Using CentileBrain: Algorithm Benchmarking and Model Optimization
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: bioRxiv : the preprint server for biology. - : Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background: Normative modeling is a statistical approach to quantify the degree to which a particular individual-level measure deviates from the pattern observed in a normative reference population. When applied to human brain morphometric measures it has the potential to inform about the significance of normative deviations for health and disease. Normative models can be implemented using a variety of algorithms that have not been systematically appraised. Methods: To address this gap, eight algorithms were compared in terms of performance and computational efficiency using brain regional morphometric data from 37,407 healthy individuals (53% female; aged 3-90 years) collated from 87 international MRI datasets. Performance was assessed with the mean absolute error (MAE) and computational efficiency was inferred from central processing unit (CPU) time. The algorithms evaluated were Ordinary Least Squares Regression (OLSR), Bayesian Linear Regression (BLR), Generalized Additive Models for Location, Scale, and Shape (GAMLSS), Parametric Lambda, Mu, Sigma (LMS), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Warped Bayesian Linear Regression (WBLG), Hierarchical Bayesian Regression (HBR), and Multivariable Fractional Polynomial Regression (MFPR). Model optimization involved testing nine covariate combinations pertaining to acquisition features, parcellation software versions, and global neuroimaging measures (i.e., total intracranial volume, mean cortical thickness, and mean cortical surface area). Findings: Statistical comparisons across models at PFDR<0.05 indicated that the MFPR-derived sex- and region-specific models with nonlinear polynomials for age and linear effects of global measures had superior predictive accuracy; the range of the MAE of the models of regional subcortical volumes was 70-520 mm3 and the corresponding ranges for regional cortical thickness and regional cortical surface area were 0.09-0.26 mm and 24-560 mm2, respectively. The MFPR-derived models were also computationally more efficient with a CPU time below one second compared to a range of 2 seconds to 60 minutes for the other algorithms. The performance of all sex- and region-specific MFPR models plateaued at sample sizes exceeding 3,000 and showed comparable MAEs across distinct 10-year age-bins covering the human lifespan. Interpretation: These results provide an empirically benchmarked framework for normative modeling of brain morphometry that is useful for interpreting prior literature and supporting future study designs. The model and tools described here are freely available through CentileBrain (https://centilebrain.org/), a user-friendly web platform.

  • Sex differences in oncogenic mutational processes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sex differences have been observed in multiple facets of cancer epidemiology, treatment and biology, and in most cancers outside the sex organs. Efforts to link these clinical differences to specific molecular features have focused on somatic mutations within the coding regions of the genome. Here we report a pan-cancer analysis of sex differences in whole genomes of 1983 tumours of 28 subtypes as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium. We both confirm the results of exome studies, and also uncover previously undescribed sex differences. These include sex-biases in coding and non-coding cancer drivers, mutation prevalence and strikingly, in mutational signatures related to underlying mutational processes. These results underline the pervasiveness of molecular sex differences and strengthen the call for increased consideration of sex in molecular cancer research.

  • Observation of a Strongly Isospin-Mixed Doublet in Si-26 via beta-Delayed Two-Proton Decay of P-26
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 129:24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • beta decay of proton-rich nuclei plays an important role in exploring isospin mixing. The beta decay of P-26 at the proton drip line is studied using double-sided silicon strip detectors operating in conjunction with high-purity germanium detectors. The T = 2 isobaric analog state (IAS) at 13 055 keV and two new high-lying states at 13 380 and 11 912 keV in Si-26 are unambiguously identified through beta-delayed two-proton emission (beta 2p). Angular correlations of two protons emitted from Si-26 excited states populated by P-26 beta decay are measured, which suggests that the two protons are emitted mainly sequentially. We report the first observation of a strongly isospin-mixed doublet that deexcites mainly via two-proton decay. The isospin mixing matrix element between the Si-26 IAS and the nearby 13 380-keV state is determined to be 130(21) keV, and this result represents the strongest mixing, highest excitation energy, and largest level spacing of a doublet ever observed in beta-decay experiments.

  • Magnetotail reconnection onset caused by electron kinetics with a strong external driver
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Nature. - 2041-1723. ; 11:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Magnetotail reconnection plays a crucial role in explosive energy conversion in geospace. Because of the lack of in-situ spacecraft observations, the onset mechanism of magnetotail reconnection, however, has been controversial for decades. The key question is whether magnetotail reconnection is externally driven to occur first on electron scales or spontaneously arising from an unstable configuration on ion scales. Here, we show, using spacecraft observations and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, that magnetotail reconnection starts from electron reconnection in the presence of a strong external driver. Our PIC simulations show that this electron reconnection then develops into ion reconnection. These results provide direct evidence for magnetotail reconnection onset caused by electron kinetics with a strong external driver.

  • Chlorophyll-a concentrations in 82 large alpine lakes on the Tibetan Plateau during 2003-2017: temporal-spatial variations and influencing factors
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Digital Earth. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1753-8947 .- 1753-8955. ; 14:6, s. 714-735
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As essential parts of the unique ecosystem of Tibetan Plateau (TP), the sizes and associated physical properties of alpine lakes have long been investigated. However, little is known about one of the most critical biogeochemical properties, i.e. the Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations. Here, for the first time, we presented a comprehensive investigation of the temporal-spatial variations in Chl-a in 82 lakes (>50 km(2)) across the entire TP region, based on MODIS observations in the period of 2003-2017. The results showed that the 82 lakes exhibited an average long-term mean Chl-a of 3.3 +/- 4.3 mg m(-3), with high Chl-a lakes concentrated in the eastern and southern inner TP basin and northeastern parts of the TP. An interannual trend analysis revealed that lakes exhibiting (significantly) decreasing Chl-a trends and (significantly) increasing Chl-a trends were comparable in numbers but differed in distribution patterns. A correlation analysis indicated that at least 70% of the interannual variability in Chl-a values of lakes was significantly correlated with one of the four environmental factors (wind speed, ice cover duration, lake water surface temperature and surface runoff) and lake size. In addition, glacier meltwater tended to reduce lake Chl-a while salinity levels showed minor influences.

  • A Muscle Teleoperation System of a Robotic Rollator Based on Bilateral Shared Control
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2169-3536. ; 8, s. 151160-151170
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The approach that achieves the teleoperation between human muscle signals and the mobile robot is increasingly applied to transfer human muscle stiffness to enhance robotic performance. In this paper, we develop a mobile rollator control system applying a muscle teleoperation interface and a shared control method to enhance the obstacle avoidance in an effective way. In order to control intuitively, haptic feedback is utilized in the teleoperation interface and is integrated with EMG stiffness to provide a large composition force. Then the composition force is implemented with an artificial potential field method to keep the robotic rollator away from the obstacle in advance. This algorithm is superior to the traditional APF algorithm regardless of the required time and trajectory length. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed muscle teleoperation system.

  • Prenatal exposure to mixture of heavy metals, pesticides and phenols and IQ in children at 7 years of age : The SMBCS study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Environment International. - : Elsevier. - 0160-4120 .- 1873-6750. ; 139
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: Prenatal exposure to heavy metals, pesticides and phenols has been suggested to interfere with neurodevelopment, but the neurotoxicity of their mixtures is still unclear. We aimed to elucidate the associations of maternal urinary concentrations of selected chemical mixtures with intelligence quotient (IQ) in children. Methods: Maternal urinary concentrations of selected heavy metals, pesticide metabolites, and phenols were quantified in pregnant women who participated in the Sheyang Mini Birth Cohort Study (SMBCS) from June 2009 to January 2010. At age 7 years, child's IQ score was assessed using the Chinese version of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (C-WISC) by trained pediatricians. Generalized linear regression models (GLM), Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models and elastic net regression (ENR) models were used to assess the associations of urinary concentrations individual chemicals and their mixtures with IQ scores of the 7-year-old children. Results: Of 326 mother-child pairs, single-chemical models indicated that prenatal urinary concentrations of lead (Pb) and bisphenol A (BPA) were significantly negatively associated with full intelligence quotient (FIQ) among children aged 7 years [β = −2.31, 95% confidence interval (CI): −4.13, −0.48; p = 0.013, sex interaction p-value = 0.076; β = −1.18, 95% CI: −2.21, −0.15; p = 0.025; sex interaction p-value = 0.296, for Pb and BPA, respectively]. Stratified analysis by sex indicated that the associations were only statistically significant in boys. In multi-chemical BKMR and ENR models, statistically significant inverse association was found between prenatal urinary Pb level and boy's FIQ scores at 7 years. Furthermore, BKMR analysis indicated that the overall mixture was associated with decreases in boy's IQ when all the chemicals’ concentrations were at their 75th percentiles or higher, compared to at their 50th percentiles. ENR models revealed that maternal urinary Pb levels were statistically significantly associated with lower FIQ scores (β = −2.20, 95% CI: −4.20, −0.20; p = 0.031).Conclusions: Prenatal exposure to selected chemical mixtures may affect intellectual performance at 7 years of age, particularly in boys. Pb and BPA were suspected as primary chemicals associated with child neurodevelopment.

  • Urinary bisphenol A concentrations and adiposity measures at age 7 years in a prospective birth cohort
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Chemosphere. - : Pergamon Press. - 0045-6535 .- 1879-1298. ; 251
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bisphenol A (BPA) exposure during early life may increase risk of childhood obesity, however, prospective evidence of birth cohort is limited and inconclusive. We aimed to explore the associations of maternal and childhood BPA exposure with child adiposity measures, including body mass index, waist circumference and skinfold thickness and waist to height ratio of children at 7 years. 430 mother-child pairs were examined from a population-based prospective cohort in a rural area of East China. BPA concentrations of spot urine samples were quantified in mothers and their children aged 3 and 7 years. Maternal urinary BPA concentration was significantly positively associated with waist circumference in children aged 7 years (β = 0.508 cm, 95% CI: 0.067, 0.950). These significant associations were not modified by child sex, but they were only observed among girls in sex-stratified analyses. Risk of central obesity related to prenatal BPA exposure was significantly higher in the second and the third tertile than those in the first tertile (odds ratio, OR = 2.510, 95% CI = 1.146, 5.499; OR = 2.584, 95% CI = 1.186, 5.631, respectively; p for trend = 0.022). The present findings suggested that prenatal exposure to BPA may enhance waist circumference of children and thereby increase risk of central obesity in school-age girls.

  • Rapid Acidification of the Arctic Chukchi Sea Waters Driven by Anthropogenic Forcing and Biological Carbon Recycling
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Geophysical Research Letters. - : American Geophysical Union (AGU). - 0094-8276 .- 1944-8007. ; 49:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The acidification of coastal waters is distinguished from the open ocean because of much stronger synergistic effects between anthropogenic forcing and local biogeochemical processes. However, ocean acidification research is still rather limited in polar coastal oceans. Here, we present a 17-year (2002-2019) observational data set in the Chukchi Sea to determine the long-term changes in pH and aragonite saturation state (omega(arag)). We found that pH and omega(arag) declined in different water masses with average rates of -0.0047 +/- 0.0026 years(-1) and -0.017 +/- 0.009 years(-1), respectively, and are similar to 2-3 times faster than those solely due to increasing atmospheric CO2. We attributed the rapid acidification to the increased dissolved inorganic carbon owing to a combination of ice melt-induced increased atmospheric CO2 invasion and subsurface remineralization induced by a stronger surface biological production as a result of the increased inflow of the nutrient-rich Pacific water.

  • Carbon availability shifts the nitrogen removal pathway and microbial community in biofilm airlift reactor
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Bioresource Technology. - : Elsevier. - 0960-8524 .- 1873-2976. ; 323
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigated the response of nitrogen removal performance and microbial community to different carbon composites in biofilm airlift reactors for wastewater treatment. Three reactors were filled with poly (butylene succinate) and bamboo powder composite at the blending ratio of 9:1, 1:1 and 1:9. Increasing the component of bamboo powder in the carrier reduced the carbon availability and had an adverse effect on nitrate removal efficiency. However, bamboo powder improved the ammonia removal rate which mainly through autotrophic nitrification. Three reactors exhibited distinct microbial compositions in both bacterial and fungal diversity. High inclusion of bamboo power decreased the relative abundance of denitrifiers Denitromonas and increased the relative abundance of nitrifiers, including Nitromonas, Nitrospina and Nitrospira. Moreover, correlation network revealed a competitive interaction between the taxa responsible for ammonia removal and nitrate removal processes. Those results indicated the feasibility of steering nitrogen removal pathway through carrier formulation in wastewater treatment.

  • Deep C-LSTM Neural Network for Epileptic Seizure and Tumor Detection Using High-Dimension EEG Signals
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2169-3536. ; 8, s. 37495-37504
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electroencephalography (EEG) is a common and significant tool for aiding in the diagnosis of epilepsy and studying the human brain electrical activity. Previously, the traditional machine learning (ML)-based classifier are used to identify the seizure by extracting features from the EEG signals manually. Although the effectiveness of these contributions have already been proved, they cannot achieve multiple class classification with automatic feature extraction. Meanwhile, the identifiable EEG segment is too long to limit the capability of real-time epileptic seizure detection. In this paper, a novel deep convolutional long short-term memory (C-LSTM) model is proposed for detecting seizure and tumor in human brain and identifying two eyes statuses (open and close). It achieves to predict a result in every 0.006 seconds with a short detection duration (one second). By comparing with other two types deep learning approaches (DCNN and LSTM), the presented deep C-LSTM obtains the best performance for classifying these five classes. All of the obtained total accuracy are over 98.80%.

  • Denitrification performance and microbial communities of solid-phase denitrifying reactors using poly (butylene succinate)/bamboo powder composite
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Bioresource Technology. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0960-8524 .- 1873-2976. ; 305
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study explored the denitrification performance of solid-phase denitrification (SPD) systems packed with poly (butylene succinate)/bamboo powder composite to treat synthetic aquaculture wastewater under different salinity conditions (0‰ Vs. 25‰). The results showed composite could achieve the maximum denitrification rates of 0.22 kg (salinity, 0‰) and 0.34 kg NO3−-N m−3 d−1 (salinity, 25‰) over 200-day operation. No significant nitrite accumulation and less dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release (<15 mg/L) were found. The morphological and spectroscopic analyses demonstrated the mixture composites degradation. Microbial community analysis showed that Acidovorax, Simplicispira, Denitromonas, SM1A02, Marinicella and Formosa were the dominant genera for denitrifying bacteria, while Aspergillus was the major genus for denitrifying fungus. The co-network analysis also indicated the interactions between bacterial and fungal community played an important role in composite degradation and denitrification. The outcomes provided a potential strategy of DOC control and cost reduction for aquaculture nitrate removal by SPD.

  • Divergent and Changing Importance of Glaciers and Snow as Natural Water Reservoirs in the Eastern and Southern Tibetan Plateau
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres. - : American Geophysical Union (AGU). - 2169-897X .- 2169-8996. ; 127:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Glaciers and snow are natural water reservoirs in the Tibetan Plateau (TP), affecting ecosystems, water and food security, and more than one billion downstream people. Meltwater volumes are traditionally estimated using the degree-day concept considering only air temperature, which cannot consider the influence from downward solar and longwave radiation, humidity, wind and resultant turbulent heat fluxes. Here, we used a physically based energy budget approach considering the full energy balance in seven large river basins in the eastern and southern TP. For 1982-2011, the estimated average glacier melt was 0.32 +/- 0.007 m water equivalent/yr with large spatial variability. Air temperature, downward longwave radiation, humidity, and wind speed influenced the overall glacier melt trend, and glacier melt accelerated with a rate of 0.42 mm/yr. Yet, downward shortwave radiation played an additional role in influencing the glacier melt rate fluctuation. On average, snow and glacier melt contributed 17.6% of annual river discharge during 1982-2011, including 10.0% from snow and 7.6% from glaciers. The highest and lowest relative melt contributions were in the Yarlung Tsangpo and Yalong Rivers, respectively. Mainly due to decreasing snow melt, glacier and snow melt contributions to discharge would decrease to 11.9% during 2021-2050 under the extreme climate scenario (RCP8.5), and the greatest change in the relative contributions would occur in the Upper Nu River (-9.2%). These findings indicate the divergent and changing importance of glaciers and snow as natural water reservoirs, potentially affecting socioeconomic development and adaptation to climate change in South, Southeast, and East Asia.

Here, we report the final analysis of efficacy and safety from COLUMBA after a median of 29.3 months follow-up (additional 21.8 months after the primary analysis). In total, 522 patients were randomized (DARA SC, n=263; DARA IV, n=259). With longer follow-up, DARA SC and DARA IV continued to show consistent efficacy and maximum trough daratumumab concentration as compared with the primary analysis. The overall response rate was 43.7% for DARA SC and 39.8% for DARA IV. The maximum mean (standard deviation [SD]) trough concentration (cycle 3, day 1 pre-dose) of serum DARA was 581 (SD, 315) μg/mL for DARA SC and 496 (SD, 231) μg/mL for DARA IV. Median progression-free survival was 5.6 months for DARA SC and 6.1 months for DARA IV; median overall survival was 28.2 months and 25.6 months, respectively. Grade 3/4 treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 50.8% of patients in the DARA SC group and 52.7% in the DARA IV group; the most common (≥10%) were thrombocytopenia (DARA SC, 14.2%; DARA IV, 13.6%), anemia (13.8%; 15.1%), and neutropenia (13.1%; 7.8%). The safety profile remained consistent with the primary analysis after longer follow-up. In summary, DARA SC and DARA IV continue to demonstrate similar efficacy and safety, with a low rate of infusion-related reactions (12.7% vs. 34.5%, respectively) and shorter administration time (3-5 minutes vs. 3-7 hours) supporting DARA SC as a preferable therapeutic choice. • Effect of Polyphenols on Cognitive Function : Evidence from Population-based Studies and Clinical Trials
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1279-7707 .- 1760-4788. ; 25:10, s. 1190-1204
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to progressive population aging, a new dementia case occurs at every 3 seconds, placing a heavy burden of disease. Identifying potential risk or preventive factors is emphasized owing to a lack of effective treatment for dementia. There has been emerging evidence on the link of certain dietary components, particularly polyphenols, to brain wellness and cognitive outcomes. Findings from animal and in vitro studies appear more consistent and conclusive. However, such an association has not been investigated in depth in human beings. In this review, we examined studies on the effect of dietary polyphenols (including flavonoids, curcumin, and resveratrol) on cognitive function. Intervention in early stages of dementia/Alzheimer's disease might be a target to slow down age-related cognitive decline before disease onset. We summarized 28 epidemiological studies (8 cross-sectional and 20 cohort studies) and 55 trials in this review. Preliminary evidence from epidemiological data provides the necessity for intervention trials, even though the measures of polyphenol intake tend to be less precise. Clinical trials are in favor of the role of some polyphenols in benefiting specific domains of cognition. This review also describes the divergence of results and current limitations of research in this field.

  • The Stellar β-decay Rate of 134Cs and Its Impact on the Barium Nucleosynthesis in the s-process
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Letters. - : American Astronomical Society. - 2041-8205 .- 2041-8213. ; 919:2, s. L19-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have calculated the stellar β-decay rate of the important s-process branching point 134Cs based on the state-of-the-art shell model calculations. At typical s-process temperatures (T ∼ 0.2-0.3 GK), our new rate is one order of magnitude lower than the widely used rate from Takahashi and Yokoi (hereafter TY87). The impact on the nucleosynthesis in AGB stars is investigated with various masses and metallicities. Our new decay rate leads to an overall decrease in the 134Ba/136Ba ratio, and well explains the measured ratio in meteorites without introducing the i-process. We also derive the elapsed time from the last AGB nucleosynthetic event that polluted the early solar system to be >28 Myr based on the 135Cs/133Cs ratio, which is consistent with the elapsed times derived from 107Pd and 182Hf. The s-process abundance sum of 135Ba and 135Cs is found to increase, resulting in a smaller r-process contribution of 135Ba in the solar system.
