  • Multi-leptons with high transverse momentum at HERA
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1029-8479. ; :10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Events with at least two high transverse momentum leptons (electrons or muons) are studied using the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA with an integrated luminosity of 0.94 fb(-1). The observed numbers of events are in general agreement with the Standard Model predictions. Seven di- and tri-lepton events are observed in e(+)p collision data with a scalar sum of the lepton transverse momenta above 100 GeV while 1.94 +/- 0.17 events are expected. Such events are not observed in e(-)p collisions for which 1.19 +/- 0.12 are predicted. Total visible and differential di-electron and di-muon photoproduction cross sections are extracted in a restricted phase space dominated by photon-photon collisions.

  • Effect of momentum relaxation on exciton spin dynamics in diluted magnetic semiconductor ZnMnSe CdSe superlattices
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 71:16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • cw hot photoluminescence (PL) complemented by transient PL measurements is employed to evaluate momentum and spin relaxation of heavy hole (HH) excitons in ZnMnSe CdSe superlattices. The rate of acoustic-phonon assisted momentum relaxation is concluded to be comparable to the total rate of exciton decay processes, about (2-3) × 1010 s-1, independent of applied magnetic fields. In magnetic fields when the Zeeman splitting ? of the exciton states is below the energy of the longitudinal optical (LO) phonon (?LO), a surprisingly strong suppression of spin relaxation rate from the bottom of the upper spin band is observed, which becomes comparable to that of momentum scattering via acoustic phonons. On the other hand, dramatic acceleration of the spin relaxation process by more than one order of magnitude is found for the excitons with a high momentum K. The findings are interpreted as being due to electron and hole spin flip processes via exchange interaction with isolated Mn2+ ions. Experimental evidence for the efficient interaction between the hot excitons and Mn impurities is also provided by the observation of spin flip transitions within Mn2+ - Mn2+ pairs that accompany the momentum relaxation of the hot HH excitons. In higher magnetic fields ?= ?LO, abrupt shortening of the spin flip time is observed. It indicates involvement of a new and more efficient spin relaxation process and is attributed to direct LO-assisted exciton spin relaxation with a subpicosecond spin relaxation time. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

  • Transient Spectroscopy of Optical Spin Injection in ZnMnSe/ZnCdSe Quantum Structures
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Superconductivity. - Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism, vol. 18 : Springer. - 0896-1107 .- 1572-9605.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show, by time-resolved magneto-photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy in combination with selective laser excitation, that optical polarization of the ZnCdSe spin detector induced by spin injection from the ZnMnSe spin injector persists over a much longer time scale than the lifetime of the ZnMnSe excitons. This finding provides compelling experimental evidence that the dominant mechanism for the observed spin injection in the ZnMnSe/ZnCdSe structures should not be due to injection of the excitonic spins of the diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS). It is rather due to e.g. a delayed spin injection arising from tunneling of individual carriers or/and trapped spins in ZnMnSe.

  • Coexistence of type-I and type-II band lineups in Cd(Te,Se)/ZnSe quantum-dot structures
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 89:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors report on transmission electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence, and time resolved photoluminescence studies of thin Cd(Te,Se) layers in a ZnSe matrix, grown by molecular beam epitaxy. All observations confirm strain-induced self-assembly of quantum dots (QD's), induced primarily by the 14% lattice mismatch between CdTe and ZnSe. The emission spectrum of the structure is the superposition of a relatively narrow luminescence line originating from CdSe-enriched type-I QD's and a broad band attributed to the emission of an ultrathin ZnTeSe/ZnSe layer with type-II band lineup, formed in between the QD's. © 2006 American Institute of Physics.

  • Studying 3C-SiC epilayers grown on the (0001)C face of 6H-SiC substrates
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Technical physics letters. - 1063-7850 .- 1090-6533. ; 33:6, s. 524-526
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Epitaxial 3C-SiC films grown on the (0001)C face of 6H-SiC substrates by sublimation epitaxy in vacuum have been studied. The results of x-ray diffraction measurements show evidence of a rather high structural perfection of silicon carbide epilayers. The Raman spectroscopy data confirm that the 3C-SiC layer grows immediately on the 6H-SiC substrate without any transition layers. It is concluded that the structures under consideration are well suited for the investigation of a two-dimensional electron gas at the 3C-SiC/6C-SiC heterojunction. © Nauka/Interperiodica 2007.

  • Density-dependent dynamics of exciton magnetic polarons in ZnMnSe/ZnSSe type-II quantum wells
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - : APS. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 73:24, s. 245335-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on time-resolved photoluminescence studies of exciton dynamics in a ZnMnSe/ZnSSe type-II quantum well. Strong separation of the electrons, confined to the nonmagnetic semiconductor ZnSSe, and holes, confined to the diluted magnetic semiconductor ZnMnSe, results in an exciton lifetime exceeding 3 ns. Two excitonic emission lines are observed in this structure at low temperatures. The lower-energy line was associated with the formation of an exciton magnetic polaron (EMP), whereas the higher-energy line was attributed to the emission of nonmagnetically localized excitons. The intensity of the EMP line was found to saturate at a relatively low density of photoexcited carriers well below the exciton Mott density. This behavior evidences a limited density of sites where the hole localization radius is small enough to ensure the fast formation of EMP's with a noticeable binding energy. © 2006 The American Physical Society.

  • III-V/II-VI heterovalent double quantum wells
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physica status solidi. B, Basic research. - : Wiley. - 0370-1972 .- 1521-3951. ; 243:4, s. 819-826
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on design, fabrication by molecular beam epitaxy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies of III-V/II-VI heterovalent structures containing a GaAs/AlGaAs/ZnSe/ZnCdMnSe double quantum well (QW). The studies of temperature-dependent and time-resolved PL have provided an insight into the nature of the exciton localization potential induced by the heterovalent interface. It is found that under the resonant conditions the observed emission mostly originates from the recombination of excitons confined in type II quantum-dot-like structures, where the holes are localised within the GaAs QW due to the well width fluctuations and the electrons are localized in the plane of the ZnCdMnSe QW due to the fluctuations of the conduction band offset at the heterovalent interface, induced by random variation of the interface microscopic structure. © 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. • Generation of a conditionally null allele of the laminin alpha 1 gene
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Genesis: The Journal of Genetics and Development. - : Wiley. - 1526-954X. ; 43:2, s. 59-70
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Laminins are heterotrimeric glycoproteins of the basement membranes. Laminin 1 (alpha 1, beta 1, gamma 1) is the major laminin expressed during early mouse embryogenesis. To gain access, to the physiological function of laminin alpha 1 chain, we developed a conditionally null allele of its encoding gene (Lama1) using the cre/loxP system. Floxed-allele-carrying mice (Lama1(flox/flox)) display no overt phenotype. Lama1(flox/flox) mice were crossed with transgenic deleter mice (CMV-Cre) to generate Lama1-deficient mice (Lama1(Delta/Delta)). Lama1(Delta/Delta) embryos die during the early postimplantation period after embryonic day 6.5. They lack Reichert's membrane, an extraembryonic basement membrane in which laminin all is normally highly expressed. In parallel, Lama1(Delta/Delta) embryos display 1) parietal and visceral endoderm differentiation defects with altered expression of cytokeratin 19 and GATA4, respectively, and 2) an induction of apoptosis. This new mouse model is of particular interest as it will allow time- and tissue-specific inactivation of the Lamal gene in various organs. genesis 43:59-70, 2005.

  • The expression pattern of laminin isoforms in Hirschsprung disease reveals a distal peripheral nerve differentiation
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Human Pathology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1532-8392 .- 0046-8177. ; 36:10, s. 1055-1065
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hirschsprung disease (HD), a developmental disorder, is associated with failure of enteric ganglia formation. Signaling molecules, including secreted basement membrane molecules, derived from the mesenchyme of the gut wall play an important role in the colonization and/or differentiation of the enteric nervous system. The current study aims to define the possible alterations of laminins involved in the pathogenesis of HD. Expression of the various laminin alpha, beta, and gamma chains, was assessed in the aganglionic, transitional, and ganglionic bowel segments of patients with HD or with other motor disorders. Cytoskeletal, neuronal, and glial markers were also included in this study. The major finding highlighted by the present work concerns the clear identification and location of myenteric aganglionic plexuses in HD with some of the laminin antibodies, which reveal a peripheral nerve type of differentiation. Furthermore, we could show an increase of laminin alpha 5 chain immunostaining in the dilated muscle of the ganglionic bowel upstream the distal aganglionic region in a subgroup of patients with HD, as well as a relocalization of laminin alpha 2 chain in the subepithelial basement membrane. Overall, these basement membrane molecules could provide useful markers for diagnosis of aganglionosis or hypoganglionosis.

  • Compositional differences between infant and adult human corneal basement membranes
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. - : Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). - 1552-5783. ; 48:11, s. 4989-4999
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PURPOSE. Adult human corneal epithelial basement membrane ( EBM) and Descemet's membrane ( DM) components exhibit heterogeneous distribution. The purpose of the study was to identify changes of these components during postnatal corneal development. METHODS. Thirty healthy adult corneas and 10 corneas from 12-day- to 3-year-old children were studied by immunofluorescence with antibodies against BM components. RESULTS. Type IV collagen composition of infant corneal central EBM over Bowman's layer changed from alpha 1-alpha 2 to alpha 3-alpha 4 chains after 3 years of life; in the adult, alpha 1-alpha 2 chains were retained only in the limbal BM. Laminin alpha 2 and beta 2 chains were present in the adult limbal BM where epithelial stem cells are located. By 3 years of age, beta 2 chain appeared in the limbal BM. In all corneas, limbal BM contained laminin gamma 3 chain. In the infant DM, type IV collagen alpha 1-alpha 6 chains, perlecan, nidogen-1, nidogen-2, and netrin-4 were found on both faces, but they remained only on the endothelial face of the adult DM. The stromal face of the infant but not the adult DM was positive for tenascin-C, fibrillin-1, SPARC, and laminin-332. Type VIII collagen shifted from the endothelial face of infant DM to its stromal face in the adult. Matrilin-4 largely disappeared after the age of 3 years. CONCLUSIONS. The distribution of laminin gamma 3 chain, nidogen-2, netrin-4, matrilin-2, and matrilin-4 is described in the cornea for the first time. The observed differences between adult and infant corneal BMs may relate to changes in their mechanical strength, corneal cell adhesion and differentiation in the process of postnatal corneal maturation.
