• Incidence of cardiovascular diseases and type-2-diabetes mellitus in patients with psychiatric disorders
• 2018
• Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0803-9488 .- 1502-4725. ; 72:7, s. 455-461
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Objective: To assess the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and type-2-diabetes in patients with psychiatric disorders. Methods: A population-based study was conducted using the Swedish national health registries. Patients were identified from the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in 20 primary care centers and were categorized in four diagnosis cohorts according to their first psychiatric diagnosis: bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, or other mood disorder. A control cohort of patients with no psychiatric disorders followed in the same primary care centers was also identified. Incident CVD and type-2-diabetes were defined as the presence of a diagnosis of CVD or diabetes during the follow-up period in patients without prior event. Results: The age and sex standardized incidence rate of CVD was 13.5 per 1000 patient-year in the patients with any psychiatric disorder versus 6.3 per 1000 patient-year in the controls. A similar trend was observed for incident diabetes (5.7 versus 3.4 per 1000 patient-year, respectively). The bipolar disorder and the schizophrenia cohorts showed the highest standardized incidence rates. Conclusion: Incidence of CVD and to a lesser extent type-2-diabetes was particularly high in patients with psychiatric disorders. This carries strong clinical implications for the prevention of CVD and type-2-diabetes in these patients.

• Climatology and firn processes in the lower accumulation area of the Greenland ice sheet
• 2016
• Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• The Greenland ice sheet is the largest Northern Hemisphere store of fresh water, and it is responding rapidly to the warming climate. In situ observations document the changing ice sheet properties in the lower accumulation area, Southwest Greenland. Firn densities from 1840 meters above sea level retrieved in May 2012 revealed the existence of a 5.5-meter-thick, near-surface ice layer in response to the recent increased melt and refreezing in firn. As a consequence, vertical meltwater percolation in the extreme summer 2012 was inefficient, resulting in surface runoff. Meltwater percolated and refroze at six meters depth only after the end of the melt season. This prolonged autumn refreezing under the newly accumulated snowpack resulted in unprecedented firn warming with temperature at ten meters depth increased by more than four degrees Celsius. Simulations confirm that meltwater reached nine meters depth at most. The refrozen meltwater was estimated at 0.23 meters water equivalent, amounting to 25 % of the total 2012 ablation.A surface energy balance model was used to evaluate the seasonal and interannual variability of all surface energy fluxes at that elevation in the years 2009 to 2013. Due to the meltwater presence at the surface in 2012, the summer-averaged albedo was significantly reduced (0.71 in 2012; typically 0.78). A sensitivity analysis revealed that 71 % of the subsequent additional solar radiation in 2012 was used for melt, corresponding to 36 % of the total 2012 surface lowering. This interplay between melt and firn properties highlights that the lower accumulation area of the Greenland ice sheet will be responding rapidly in a warming climate.

• A version of Huet's algorithm for higher-order unification
• 1989. - 1
• Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• This paper describes a procedure for unification in extensional higher order logics. The procedure is due to Gerard Huet and was described in /Hu75/. In this paper we consider unification in extensional theories' which is a significantly simpler problem and is not described in detail in Huet's paper. In addition, the description here focuses on computation of substitutions rather than deciding inifiability, as in Huet's paper. To this some explanatory and clarifying material has been added.

• Development of Industrial Oil Crop Crambe abyssinica for Wax Ester Production through Metabolic Engineering and Cross Breeding
• 2019
• Ingår i: Plant and Cell Physiology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0032-0781 .- 1471-9053. ; 60, s. 1274-1283
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• As an important industrial feedstock, wax esters ( WEs) have been used as lubricants in a number of technical processes. There is however currently no large-scale biological source for WE production and alteration in metabolic pathways of plant oils for producing WEs could be attractive to the commercial markets. Here, we present the breeding results of long-term studies on successful development of new crambe lines producing WEs through genetic engineering and cross breeding. The transgenic crambe lines producing WEs at over 25% of the total seed oil were first generated by introduction of the jojoba WE biosynthetic genes ScFAR and ScWS. Further improvement of the lines aiming at improving oxidative stability of WEs was achieved through introducing the CaFAD2-RNAi gene into these lines by crossing. The hybrid lines possessed similar agronomic traits to the wild type and a stable level of WEs over several generations, suggesting a high potential of crambe as an industrial crop for WE production.

• Lambda-Policy Iteration with Randomization for Contractive Models with Infinite Policies : Well-Posedness and Convergence
• 2020
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2nd Conference on Learning for Dynamics and Control, L4DC 2020. - : ML Research Press. ; , s. 540-549
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• dynamic programming models are used to analyze λ-policy iteration with randomization algorithms. Particularly, contractive models with infinite policies are considered and it is shown that well-posedness of the λ-operator plays a central role in the algorithm. The operator is known to be well-posed for problems with finite states, but our analysis shows that it is also well-defined for the contractive models with infinite states studied. Similarly, the algorithm we analyze is known to converge for problems with finite policies, but we identify the conditions required to guarantee convergence with probability one when the policy space is infinite regardless of the number of states. Guided by the analysis, we exemplify a data-driven approximated implementation of the algorithm for estimation of optimal costs of constrained linear and nonlinear control problems. Numerical results indicate potentials of this method in practice.

• Study of Supporting Sequences in DBMSs - Data Model, Query Language, and Storage Management
• 1998
• Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• Many real life applications require data that are inherently sequential. Sequential data exist in many domains such as temporal databases, execution monitors, trigger mechanisms, and list processing. Traditional database systems did not pay special attention to sequence data, which resulted in tedious query expression and bad performance. This report summarizes recent research on supporting sequence data in DBMSs, covering issues such as data model, query language, query optimization, and storage management. The sequence database system SEQ is described.

• Overview and classification of Design for Environment tools – A diverse toolbox for vehicle developers
• Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• Design for environment (DfE) tools, are defined as any type of systematised aid that facilitates the integration of environmental considerations during product development. A variety of DfE tools is available and informed selection based on the company’s, user’s and product’s needs is important for their successful implementation. Through systematic review of the literature, the goal of this paper is to provide a compilation of DfE tools that can be used during vehicle design and development processes. The review resulted in a rich and diverse toolbox of 41 DfE tools the majority of which exhibiting features that are relevant from a vehicle design perspective, such as environmental impacts that are important to monitor for this product category, life cycle considerations, functional and regulation requirements and more. No tool covers all features thus the use of a combination of tools may be necessary. By collecting and presenting the DfE tools available, this paper is expected to assist the adoption and systematic use of existing tools. Gaps and limitations are identified, indicating areas for improvement, for the development of future tools.

• Overview of Design for Environment tools and investigation of their application potential within vehicle design and development processes
• Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• This paper provides a compilation of 31 Design for Environment (DfE) tools that are available today and investigates the potential of those tools to be used during vehicle design processes. The assessment is based on a variety of parameters that cover methodological characteristics of the identified tools but also aspects that are relevant from a vehicle design perspective. The results show that product developers have a rich and diverse toolbox where suitable tools can be selected. When it comes to vehicle design, combinations of DfE tools have the potential to capture the parameters and requirements considered. The paper identifies a need for tools that manage to integrate a multi-criteria perspective related to vehicle design i.e. by incorporating environmental, functional, economic, stakeholder’s and regulation requirements but also for tools that provide possibilities for integration into engineering tools.

• MemoryBank: Enhancing Large Language Models with Long-Term Memory
• 2024
• Ingår i: Proceedings Of The Aaai Conference On Artificial Intelligence. - : Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). ; , s. 19724-19731
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Large Language Models (LLMs) have drastically reshaped our interactions with artificial intelligence (AI) systems, showcasing impressive performance across an extensive array of tasks. Despite this, a notable hindrance remains—the deficiency of a long-term memory mechanism within these models. This shortfall becomes increasingly evident in situations demanding sustained interaction, such as personal companion systems, psychological counseling, and secretarial assistance. Recognizing the necessity for long-term memory, we propose MemoryBank, a novel memory mechanism tailored for LLMs. MemoryBank enables the models to summon relevant memories, continually evolve through continuous memory updates, comprehend, and adapt to a user’s personality over time by synthesizing information from previous interactions. To mimic anthropomorphic behaviors and selectively preserve memory, MemoryBank incorporates a memory updating mechanism, inspired by the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve theory. This mechanism permits the AI to forget and reinforce memory based on time elapsed and the relative significance of the memory, thereby offering a more human-like memory mechanism and enriched user experience. MemoryBank is versatile in accommodating both closed-source models like ChatGPT and open-source models such as ChatGLM. To validate MemoryBank’s effectiveness, we exemplify its application through the creation of an LLM-based chatbot named SiliconFriend in a long-term AI Companion scenario. Further tuned with psychological dialog data, SiliconFriend displays heightened empathy and discernment in its interactions. Experiment involves both qualitative analysis with real-world user dialogs and quantitative analysis with simulated dialogs. In the latter, ChatGPT acts as multiple users with diverse characteristics and generates long-term dialog contexts covering a wide array of topics. The results of our analysis reveal that SiliconFriend, equipped with MemoryBank, exhibits a strong capability for long-term companionship as it can provide emphatic response, recall relevant memories and understand user personality.
