  • Decay Out of the Doubly Magic Superdeformed Band in the N=Z Nucleus 60Zn
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 82:17, s. 3400-3403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The doubly magic superdeformed band in the N = Z nucleus Zn-60 has been identified. Linking transitions connecting this band to the yrast line provide the first spin, parity, and excitation energy measurements for superdeformed states in the A similar to 60 region. The stretched-E2 character and relatively large B(E2) values of these transitions suggest a nonstatistical decay-out process.

  • Characterization of deep level defects in 4H and 6H SiC via DLTS, SIMS and MeV e-beam irradiation
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: III-nitride, SiC and diamond materials for electronic devices. ; , s. 519-524
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electrically active defects in both 4H and 6H polytypes of SiC have been observed through the use of deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS). Schottky contacts were grown by VPE with doping concentrations, the epitaxial layer having a doping concentration in the range of 10 exp 14/cu cm to 10 exp 17/cu cm. Numerous levels have been found in the as-grown n-type 6H-SiC samples, and SIMS and MeV electron irradiation have been employed to correlate the defect levels to impurities or structural defects. In contrast, only a single level is observed in the as-grown 4H-SiC samples.

  • A mechanism-based pharmacokinetic-enzyme model for cyclophosphamide autoinduction in breast cancer patients
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. - 0306-5251 .- 1365-2125. ; 48:5, s. 669-677
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims This study investigated the pharmacokinetics of cyclophosphamide (CP) and its main metabolite 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide (4-OH-CP) in patients with breast cancer undergoing high dose chemotherapy prior to autologous stem cell transplantation. An enzyme turn-over model was also developed to study the time course of cyclophosphamide induction. Methods Fourteen patients received a combination of CP (6 g m(-2)), thiotepum (500 mg m(-2)) and carboplatin (800 mg m(-2)) as a 96 h infusion. Plasma concentrations of CP and 4-OH-CP were determined with h.p.l.c. and a pharmacokinetic and enzyme turn-over model applied to data using NONMEM. Results CP plasma concentrations were described by a two-compartment model with a noninducible and an inducible pathway, the latter forming 4-OH-CP. In the final enzyme model, CP affects the amount of enzymes by increasing the enzyme production rate. CP concentrations decreased during the infusion with no subsequent change in 4-OH-CP concentrations. CP inducible and noninducible clearance were estimated to 1.76 1 h(-1) (90% C.I. 0.92-2.58) and 1.14 1 h(-1) (0.31-1.85), respectively. The induction resulted in an approximately doubled CP clearance through the inducible pathway at the end of treatment. The model predicted the enzyme turn-over half-life to be 24 h. Conclusions The presented mechanism-based enzyme induction model where the pharmacokinetics of the inducer and the enzyme pool counterbalance each other successfully described CP autoinduction. It is reasonable to believe that CP affects its own elimination by increasing the enzyme production rate and thereby increasing the amount of enzyme by which CP is eliminated.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 2-(1-Hydroxyalkyl)-6-oxazolyl-and 2-(1-alkoxyalkyl)-6-oxazolylpyridines serve as versatile ligands in the palladium-catalyzed allylic substitution of rac-1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with dimethyl malonate as nucleophile. The enantioselectivity of the reaction is dependent on the conformation of the ligands, as deduced by NMR, X-ray crystallography and DFT calculations of palladium(II) complexes of the ligands. The reactions are slow, requiring up to four days reaction time. However, with the use of microwave flash heating, reaction times are reduced to 2 min, with only minor loss in stereoselectivity.

  • Smooth Termination of Rotational Bands in 62Zn: Evidence for a Loss of Collectivity
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 80:12, s. 2558-2561
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two sets of strongly coupled rotational bands have been identified in Zn-62. These bands have been observed up to the terminating states of their respective configurations. Lifetime measurements indicate that the transition quadrupole moments in these bands decrease as termination is approached. These results establish the first terminating states of rotational bands in the A similar to 60 mass region and confirm the predicted loss of collectivity associated with smooth band termination.

  • [Nerve cell damages in whiplash injuries. Animal experimental studies] : Nervenzellschäden bei Schleudertraumen. Tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen.
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Der Orthopäde. - 0085-4530. ; 27:12, s. 820-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mechanical loading of the cervical spine during car accidents often lead to a number of neck injury symptoms with the common term Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD). Several of these symptoms could possibly be explained by injuries to the cervical spinal nerve root region. It was hypothesised that the changes in the inner volume of the cervical spinal canal during neck extension-flexion motion would cause transient pressure changes in the CNS as a result of hydro-dynamic effects, and thereby mechanically load the nerve roots and cause tissue damage. To test the hypothesis, anaesthetised pigs were exposed to experimental neck trauma in the extension, flexion and lateral flexion modes. The severity of the trauma was kept below the level where cervical fractures occur. Transient pressure pulses in the cervical spinal canal were duly recorded. Signs of cell membrane dysfunction were found in the nerve cell bodies of the cervical spinal ganglia. Ganglion injuries may explain some of the symptoms associated with soft-tissue neck injuries in car accidents. When the pig's head was pulled rearward relative to its torso to resemble a rear-end collision situation, it was found that ganglion injuries occurred very early on in the neck motion, at the stage where the motion changes from retraction to extension motion. Ganglion injuries did not occur when pigs were exposed to similar static loading of the neck. This indicates that these injuries are a result of dynamic phenomena and thereby further supports the pressure hypothesis. A Neck Injury Criterion (NIC) based on a theoretical model of the pressure effects was developed. It indicated that it was the differential horizontal acceleration and velocity between the head and the upper torso at the point of maximum neck retraction that determined the risk of ganglion injuries.
