  • Depression-like behavior in rat: Involvement of galanin receptor subtype 1 in the ventral periaqueductal gray
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : NATL ACAD SCIENCES. - 0027-8424 .- 1091-6490. ; 113:32, s. E4726-E4735
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The neuropeptide galanin coexists in rat brain with serotonin in the dorsal raphe nucleus and with noradrenaline in the locus coeruleus (LC), and it has been suggested to be involved in depression. We studied rats exposed to chronic mild stress (CMS), a rodent model of depression. As expected, these rats showed several endophenotypes relevant to depression-like behavior compared with controls. All these endophenotypes were normalized after administration of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. The transcripts for galanin and two of its receptors, galanin receptor 1 (GALR1) and GALR2, were analyzed with quantitative real-time PCR using laser capture microdissection in the following brain regions: the hippocampal formation, LC, and ventral periaqueductal gray (vPAG). Only Galr1 mRNA levels were significantly increased, and only in the latter region. After knocking down Galr1 in the vPAG with an siRNA technique, all parameters of the depressive behavioral phenotype were similar to controls. Thus, the depression-like behavior in rats exposed to CMS is likely related to an elevated expression of Galr1 in the vPAG, suggesting that a GALR1 antagonist could have antidepressant effects.

  • Sparsest Random Sampling for Cluster-Based Compressive Data Gathering in Wireless Sensor Networks
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2169-3536. ; 6, s. 36383-36394
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Compressive data gathering (CDG) has been recognized as a promising technique to collect sensory data in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with reduced energy cost and better traffic load balancing. Besides, clustering is often integrated into CDG to further facilitate the network performance. However, existing cluster-based CDG methods generally require a large number of sensor nodes to participate in each compressive sensing (CS) measurement gathering and rarely consider possible node failures due to power depletion or malicious attacks, leading to insufficient energy efficiency and poor system robustness. In this paper, we propose a sparsest random sampling scheme for cluster-based CDG (SRS-CCDG) in WSNs to achieve energy efficient and robust data collection. Specifically, sensor nodes are organized into clusters. In each round of data gathering, a random subset of sensor nodes sense the monitored field and transmit their measurements to the corresponding cluster heads (CHs). Then, each CH transmits the data gathered within its cluster to the sink. In SRS-CCDG, each sensor reading is regarded as one CS measurement, and both intra-cluster and inter-cluster data transmissions can be realized by two methods, i.e., relaying or direct transmission. Furthermore, we propose analytical models that study the relationship between the size of clusters and the energy cost when using different intra-cluster and inter-cluster transmission schemes, aimed at finding the optimal size of clusters and transmission schemes that could lead to minimum energy cost. Then, we present a centralized clustering algorithm based on the theoretical analysis. Finally, we investigate the robustness of signal recovery performance of SRS-CCDG when node failures happen. Extensive simulations demonstrate that SRS-CCDG can significantly reduce the energy cost and improve the system robustness to node failures.

  • Sulfuric Acid Assisted Preparation of Red-Emitting Carbonized Polymer Dots and the Application of Bio-lmaging
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nanoscale Research Letters. - : SPRINGEROPEN. - 1931-7573 .- 1556-276X. ; 13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Red-emitting carbonized polymer dots (CPDs) was prepared from p-phenylenediamine (p-PD) aqueous solution with the assistance of sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and the optical properties and bio-imaging application were studied in this paper. Compared with other strong acids-assisted systems, SA-CPDs (prepared from H2SO4-assisted system, average diameter is similar to 5 nm) is the brightest. The photoluminescence Quantum Yields (QYs) is 21.4% (in water), and the product yield is 16.5%. SA-CPDs aqueous solution emits at 600 nm when excited by the light from 300 to 580 nm. The emission wavelength is independent on the excitation wavelength. Formation energies of CPDs in two ways were calculated to show that longitudinal growth (forming polymers) is difficult, and the transverse growth (forming CPDs) is easy. In addition, the two-photon photoluminescence properties (emitting at 602 nm when excited by 850 nm femtosecond pulse laser) of SA-CPDs were also utilized in the experiments for HeLa cells staining and shown to have potential applications in bio-imaging.

  • A Near-Infrared Photoactive Morphology Modifier Leads to Significant Current Improvement and Energy Loss Mitigation for Ternary Organic Solar Cells
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Advanced Science. - : WILEY. - 2198-3844. ; 5:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Herein, efficient organic solar cells (OSCs) are realized with the ternary blend of a medium band gap donor (poly[(2,6-(4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)-benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b]dithiophene))-alt-(5,5-(1,3-di-2-thienyl-5,7-bis(2-ethylhexyl)benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c]dithiophene-4,8-dione)] (PBDB-T)) with a low band gap acceptor (2,2-((2Z,2Z)-(((2,5-difluoro-1,4-phenylene)bis(4,4-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b]dithiophene-6,2-diyl))bis(methanylylidene))bis(5,6-difluoro-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-2,1-diylidene))dimalononitrile (HF-PCIC)) and a near-infrared acceptor (2,2-((2Z,2Z)-(((4,4,9,9-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-4,9-dihydro-s-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b]dithiophene-2,7-diyl)bis(4-((2-ethylhexyl)oxy)thiophene-5,2-diyl))bis(methanylylidene))bis(5,6-difluoro-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-2,1-diylidene))dimalononitrile (IEICO-4F)). It is shown that the introduction of IEICO-4F third component into PBDB-T:HF-PCIC blend increases the short-circuit current density (J(sc)) of the ternary OSC to 23.46 mA cm(-2), with a 44% increment over those of binary devices. The significant current improvement originates from the broadened absorption range and the active layer morphology optimization through the introduction of IEICO-4F component. Furthermore, the energy loss of the ternary cells (0.59 eV) is much decreased over that of the binary cells (0.80 eV) due to the reduction of both radiative recombination from the absorption below the band gap and nonradiative recombination upon the addition of IEICO-4F. Therefore, the power conversion efficiency increases dramatically from 8.82% for the binary cells to 11.20% for the ternary cells. This work provides good examples for simultaneously achieving both significant current enhancement and energy loss mitigation in OSCs, which would lead to the further construction of highly efficient ternary OSCs.
