  • Rotation induced octupole correlations in the neutron-deficient Te-109 nucleus
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 437:3-4, s. 236-242
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High spin states in the neutron deficient nucleus 109Te have been populated with the 58Ni+54Fe reaction at 220 MeV and investigated through γ-spectroscopy methods at the GASP spectrometer making use of reaction channel selection with the ISIS Si-ball. The level scheme has been extended up to an excitation energy of ≈12.1 MeV. The spins and parities of the observed levels are assigned tentatively supporting the identification of two bands of opposite parity connected by strong dipole transitions inferred to be of E1 character. Octupole correlations in 109Te induced by rotation are suggested as the cause of this effect.

  • Collective Excitations in the Vicinity of N=Z
  • 1999. - 1 SUPPL. 1
  • Ingår i: Proceedings INPC 1998. - 0375-9474. ; 654, s. 659-662
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In our contribution to the INPC98 conference we reported on the experimental investigation of high spin collective states in medium and heavy mass N≈Z nuclei at LNL. The main purpose is to set light on the role of the proton-neutron interaction in the collective behavior of the nucleus. In medium mass N=Z nuclei, in contrast with the stable nuclei, valence protons and neutrons occupy the same orbitals and one may expect a reinforcement of neutron-proton T=0 (np) pairing correlations[1]. In this interesting subject, the medium mass N=Z=36 72Kr has been studied and completely reported in [2]. In this proceedings we will concentrate in unpublished results concerning the onset of collectivity on nearly spherical nuclei in the 100Sn region. In nuclei with Z=50 and Z=49 dipole bands have been found indicating the presence of "Magnetic Rotation" [3].

  • Localization of neuropeptide Y Y1 receptors in cerebral blood vessels
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. - 0027-8424. ; 94:23, s. 12661-12666
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The localization of neuropeptide Y (NPY) Y1 receptor (R) -like immunoreactivity (LI) has been studied in cerebral arteries and arterioles of the rat by immunohistochemistry using fluorescence, confocal, and electron microscopy. High levels of Y1-R-LI were observed in smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the small arterioles of the pial arterial network, especially on the basal surface of the brain, and low levels in the major basal cerebral arteries. The levels of Y1-R-LI varied strongly between adjacent SMCs. Y1-R-LI was associated with small endocytosis vesicles, mainly on the outer surface of the SMCs, but also on their endothelial side and often laterally at the interface between two SMCs. NPY-immunoreactive (Ir) nerve fibers could not be detected in association with the Y1-R-rich small arterioles but only around arteries with low Y1-R levels. A dense network of central NPY-Ir nerve fibers in the superficial layers of the brain was lying close to the strongly Y1-R-Ir small arterioles. The results indicate that NPY has a profound effect on small arterioles of the brain acting on Y1-Rs, both on the peripheral and luminal side of the SMCs. However, the source of the endogenous ligand, NPY, remains unclear. NPY released from central neurons may play a role, in addition to blood-borne NPY.

  • Levels of mdr1 and mrp mRNA in leukaemic cell populations from patients with acute myelocytic leukaemia are heterogenous and inversely correlated to cellular daunorubicin accumulation
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Haematology. - : Wiley. - 0007-1048 .- 1365-2141. ; 92:4, s. 847-854
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multidrug resistance gene (mdr1) expression is associated with a poor prognosis in acute myelocytic leukaemia (AML). Whether expression of the recently described multidrug resistance-associated gene (mrp) has any prognostic importance in AML is still unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the functional role of the mdr1 and mrp mRNA levels in peripheral leukaemic cell populations from patients with AML. Peripheral leukaemic cells from 10 patients with AML were incubated with daunorubicin (DNR). Cellular DNR content was analysed with a fluorescence-activated cell sorter (FACS). From each cell population the 20–25% cells with the lowest and highest DNR content were sorted out, and mdr1 and mrp RNA were quantified in these subpopulations with competitive polymerase chain reaction. The ratio between the mean DNR content in the cell populations with high and low DNR content varied between 1.9 and 6.6. The cell fraction with low DNR content had higher (3.8–40 times) mdr1 mRNA levels in 10/10 patients and higher (1.4–26 times) mrp mRNA levels in 8/10, as compared to the cell fraction with high DNR accumulation. In conclusion, mdr1 and mrp mRNA expressions are heterogenous in leukaemic cell populations from patients with AML. The mdr1 expression, and to some extent mrp expression, is inversely correlated to DNR accumulation in vitro.
