  • A Systematic Review of Parental Self-efficacy Among Parents of School-Age Children and Adolescents
  • 2029
  • Ingår i: Adolescent Research Review. - : Springer. - 2363-8346 .- 2363-8354. ; 9:1, s. 75-91
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • What function does parental self-efficacy have for parenting behaviors and children's adjustment, and what explains individual variations in parents' self-efficacy? Parental self-efficacy involves parents' beliefs about their influence on their children and this systematic review presents results from 35 empirical studies published between 2003 and 2022 among parents of school-aged children and adolescents. First, the studies in this review show a bi-directional association between parental self-efficacy and positive parenting, and some empirical evidence that parental self-efficacy influences children indirectly, via parenting. The few longitudinal studies examining associations between parental self-efficacy and child behaviors suggest that self-efficacy might emerge as a reaction to children's behaviors. Second, many child, parent, and sociocultural factors were shown to predict parental self-efficacy (e.g., child gender and age, parents' psychological well-being, and socio-economic status), and results suggest that these associations are similar across multiple countries and age groups. Finally, studies reporting on parental self-efficacy at different time points or a correlation between self-efficacy and the child's age suggested that parental self-efficacy decreases over the school-age and adolescent period. This review shows the complex role of parental self-efficacy in associations with parent and child factors, and it also highlight questions to address for future research.

  • Deadline-constrained security-aware workflow scheduling in hybrid cloud architecture
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Future Generation Computer Systems. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0167-739X .- 1872-7115. ; 162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A hybrid cloud is an efficient solution to deal with the problem of insufficient resources of a private cloud when computing demands increase beyond its resource capacities. Cost-efficient workflow scheduling, considering security requirements and data dependency among tasks, is a prominent issue in the hybrid cloud. To address this problem, we propose a mathematical model that minimizes the monetary cost of executing a workflow and satisfies the security requirements of tasks under a deadline. The proposed model fulfills data dependency among tasks, and data transmission time is formulated with exact mathematical expressions. The derived model is a Mixed-integer linear programming problem. We evaluate the proposed model with real-world workflows over changes in the input variables of the model, such as the deadline and security requirements. This paper also presents a post-optimality analysis that investigates the stability of the assignment problem. The experimental results show that the proposed model minimizes the cost by decreasing inter-cloud communications for dependent tasks. However, the optimal solutions are affected by the limitations that are imposed by the problem constraints.

  • Reconstructing of the radiation condition and solution for a variable coefficient Helmholtz equation in a semi-infinite strip from Cauchy data on an interior segment
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications. - : ACADEMIC PRESS INC ELSEVIER SCIENCE. - 0022-247X .- 1096-0813. ; 541:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We consider the Helmholtz equation with a variable coefficient in a semi-infinite strip. Homogeneous Neumann conditions are prescribed on a part of the boundary of the strip. Our aim is to find the unknown function in the Dirichlet boundary condition on the remaining part of the boundary from measurements taken on a segment inside the semi-infinite strip. We assume that the radiation condition at infinity is unknown and must be found also. The main difficulty here is the variable coefficient in the Helmholtz equation which does not allow to apply the method of separation of variable as was done in [2]. Such problems appear in acoustics to determine acoustical sources and surface vibrations from acoustic field measurements in non-uniform mediums. We split the problem in two parts. One consists of finding the radiation condition and this problem is well-posed. We derive the equation for finding the parameter of the radiation condition, that holds at infinity. The second one is to find the Dirichlet data and this problem is ill-posed. We present an operator equation with compact operator for finding the Dirichlet data. (c) 2024 The Author(s). • Childism, Intersectionality and the Rights of the Child : The myth of a happy childhood
  • 2025
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book is the first to comprehensively develop the concept of childism to understand, study and analyse age-based discrimination against children. It presents a critical theory to help comprehend intersecting prejudice against children and to examine the weak implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and in what ways violations against children can be analysed through the intersections of racist, sexist and ableist discrimination. The book further offers scholars a new perspective when studying structural forms of discrimination and oppression against children and provides professionals with a new vocabulary on prejudice targeting children when assessing theory, policy and praxis on ‘child-friendly’ and ‘child-centred’ initiatives that overlook the need to protect children against discrimination. This book will be of key interest to scholars, students and practitioners of human rights, child and youth studies, education, prejudice studies, the United Nations and child law, and more broadly to sociology, social policy, psychology, and social work.

  • The Multifaceted Seafarer: An Explorative Discourse Analysis of Seafarers’ Portrayals in Swedish Maritime Magazines
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Ocean and Society. - : Cogitatio Press. ; 2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Seafaring is a highly male‐dominated occupation. Within the industry, there is an ambition to increase the proportion of women working in maritime professions. In this endeavor, it is relevant to examine how seafarers are portrayed in various contexts. This study aimed to explore the image of seafarers as presented in Swedish maritime magazines: How are seafarers described, and can these descriptions be seen as performative in shaping a professional identity? To meet this aim, a discourse analysis was performed, based on 20 texts from two maritime magazines, representing both rating and officer seafarers. Overall, six subject positions inhabited by seafarers were identified, with several overlapping characteristics. For example, traits of the traditional seafarer were also found in the masculine seafarer and the flexible seafarer. Furthermore, it is argued that several of the subject positions are difficult to combine with what is referred to as the gender‐equal seafarer, mainly due to challenges in balancing family life with extended periods at sea. The study shows that today’s seafarers, according to how they are depicted in Swedish maritime magazines, have considerable agency in shaping their own professional identity without being forced to conform to a hegemonic masculinity. Finally, it is suggested that the term “seafarer” be used instead of “seaman” in both print and everyday conversations, for increased inclusiveness and representation.

  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Integrating media studies with history, Media Tactics in the Long Twentieth Century explores the dynamic relationship between tactics and strategies in recent history.Drawing on examples from a range of different countries and world regions, and looking at the infrastructures, entanglements, and institutions involved, the volume makes a strong case for media tactics as a new field of scholarly inquiry and for the importance of a historically informed approach. In contrast to strategic communication approaches, this media historical intervention contributes to new knowledge about the practical implementation of strategies. First foregrounding tactics as an object of study, the volume then counters the presentism of contemporary studies by adding a necessary historical perspective. Moreover, the book theoretically disentangles the concept of strategy – from an abstract contemporary buzzword to concrete, hands-on actions – which in turn reveals the complexity of using media strategies and media tactics in reality. This volume will interest scholars and students working in the field of media and communication in general, and in the subfields of strategic communication, public relations, media history, and propaganda studies.

  • AVT and agency : Revoicing to give a voice to minoritized language communities
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Journal of Audiovisual Translation. - 2617-9148.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • At the 10th Media for All conference, the meagre representation of minoritized languages (including sign language) in audiovisual media on streaming platforms was tackled. In this way, the very ideal of media for all was challenged. Global streaming platforms tend to adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach in limiting their language settings to a minimum. While the users of minoritized languages often are proficient in the dominant language of their country, it is absolutely crucial that content is available in their smaller — and often endangered — languages as well. Some streaming platforms of local public service broadcasters try to accommodate this need. Still, the questions remain: to what extent do not only minoritized languages users, but also the speakers of the majority languages encounter these minoritized languages in audiovisual content, how linguistically diverse and inclusive is this content, but also: what role can audiovisual translation play here? In this article, the importance of audiovisual translation in and out of minoritized languages, with a special focus on revoicing, is discussed. The children’s content broadcast by Swedish public service broadcaster in the national minority languages and sign language is used as a case study.

  • Minority/minoritized language audiovisual translation for younger audiences
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: The Routledge handbook of translation and children’s literature and media. - London : Routledge.
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Revoicing has historically been used to translate children’s audiovisual content. Of the various audiovisual translation (AVT) modes, lip-sync dubbing completely replaces the original dialogue track with a recording of the translated dialogue lines in the target language. Off-screen narration is also used to guide children through a programme, usually in the form of voice-over that does not include traces of the source language. In addition to animated children’s programmes, live-action content targeting older children that used to be subtitled in so-called ‘subtitling countries’ is likewise often dubbed nowadays. Other than dubbing, different AVT modes can be combined within the same programme to make children’s content accessible to audiences with special needs or specific linguistic preferences. Furthermore, besides professional AVT, efforts by laypersons and language activists to provide content in minority languages are also important. In this chapter, AVT in and out of minority/minoritized languages is discussed, including aspects such as the role of language planning and the language acquisition impact on younger audiences.

  • Understanding filamentous cyanobacteria and their adaptive niches in Lake Honghu, a shallow eutrophic lake
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Sciences (China). - 1001-0742. ; 152, s. 219-234
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Freshwater lakes globally are witnessing an escalation in the frequency and intensity of cyanobacterial harmful blooms. However, underlying factors influencing the succession or coexistence of cyanobacteria, especially filamentous ones, remain poorly understood. Lake Honghu, a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance with degrading aquatic ecological quality, served as a case study to elucidate the intricate relationship between environmental changes and cyanobacterial dynamics. Our analysis revealed a significant increase in the dominance of filamentous cyanobacteria, marked by high spatiotemporal variability in community structure. This dominance of filamentous diazotrophic cyanobacteria is attributed to a decrease in the ratio of dissolved inorganic nitrogen to total phosphorus and their capacity to utilize organic phosphorus in phosphorus-deficient conditions. Species-specific density variations were linked to diverse environmental factors, with total nitrogen or total phosphorus concentration remaining as a crucial factor influencing dominant cyanobacterial density fluctuations. The dominance of low-temperature-tolerant Aphanizomenon and Pseudanabaena was evident in spring and winter, whereas Dolichospermum and Cylindrospermopsis, which prefer higher temperatures, thrived in summer and autumn. Additionally, non-algal turbidity and heterogeneity can potentially alter the competitive outcome among filamentous cyanobacteria or foster coexistence under conditions of elevated temperatures and nutrient limitation. This study predicts that filamentous cyanobacteria may spread and persist in lakes spanning a wide trophic range. Current findings enhance our comprehension of the dynamic responses exhibited by filamentous bloom-forming cyanobacteria in the face of environmental changes within shallow eutrophic lakes and provide valuable insights for lake managers involved in the remediation of degraded shallow lakes.

  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Comics, Activism, Feminisms. - London : Routledge. - 9781032545509 - 9781032545523 - 9781003425397 ; , s. 126-140
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As feminist comics circulate globally, understanding their transfer from local to international contexts is crucial. Original comics’ local feminism risks erasure in the translation process, favouring elements suiting the target culture. This study examines how Pénélope Bagieu’s comics work is reinscribed in the Swedish comics landscape. Selection and reception instances are analysed drawing on translation and cultural transfer studies. The study traces the selection instance by publishing houses and the reception of Bagieu and French feminist comics in Francophone and Swedish comics scenes. Results show increased recognition of French and Francophone female and feminist comics artists in Sweden after 2010. Incoming female comics artists often get niched in children’s literature, despite potential within the feminist comics landscape. Sweden shows unawareness of the gap between locally promoted feminist comics and the reception of imported equivalents. Selection and reception orchestration crucially impact how a work is received in the target culture. Awareness of incoming feminist comics artists’ works and their connections to works in the target culture can offer nuanced perspectives on cross-border development in the field.

  • Integrated optimisation of multi-pass cutting parameters and tool path with hierarchical reinforcement learning towards green manufacturing
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing. - : PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD. - 0736-5845 .- 1879-2537. ; 91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Five-axis machining, especially flank milling, is popular in machining thin-walled freeform surface parts with high energy consumption. Reducing the machining energy consumption is paramount for advancing green manufacturing. Therefore, this paper proposes an energy-efficient integration optimisation of cutting parameters and tool path with hierarchical reinforcement learning (HRL). Firstly, a novel multi-pass machining energy consumption model is developed with cutting and path parameters, based on which the integrated optimisation problem is modelled considering a dynamic workpiece deformation constraint. Secondly, HRL with a Soft Actor Critic agent (HSAC) decouples the model into two Markov Decision Processes at different timescales. The higherlayer plans cutting parameters for each pass on a macro timescale, while the micro-timescale lower-layer performs multiple tool path expansions with the planned cutting parameters, and provides feedback to the higher layer. By hierarchical optimisation and non-hierarchical interaction, the model is efficiently solved. Moreover, curriculum transfer learning is applied to expedite task completion of the lower layer, enhancing interaction efficiency between the two layers. Experiments show that, compared with two benchmarks, the proposed method improves machining energy consumption by 35.02 % and 30.92 %, and reduces machining time by 38.57 % and 27.17 %, providing a promising paradigm of green practices for thin-walled freeform parts and the broader manufacturing industry.

  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0736-5845 .- 1879-2537. ; 91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the process of metal cutting, realizing effective monitoring of tool wear is of great significance to ensure the quality of parts machining. To address the tool wear monitoring (TWM) problem, a tool wear monitoring method based on data-driven and physical output is proposed. The method divides two Physical models (PM) into multiple stages according to the tool wear in real machining scenarios, making the coefficients of PM variable. Meanwhile, by analyzing the monitoring capabilities of different PMs at each stage and fusing them, the PM's ability to deal with complex nonlinear relationships, which is difficult to handle, is improved, and the flexibility of the model is improved; The pre-processed signal data features were extracted, and the original features were fused and downscaled using Stacked Sparse Auto-Encoder (SSAE) networker to build a data-driven model (DDM). At the same time, the DDM is used as a guidance layer to guide the fused PM for the prediction of wear amount at each stage of the tool, which enhances the interpretability of the monitoring model. The experimental results show that the proposed method can realize the accurate monitoring of tool wear, which has a certain reference value for the flexible tool change in the actual metal-cutting process.

  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Separation and Purification Technology. - : Elsevier. - 1383-5866 .- 1873-3794. ; 352
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The current study presented a porous liquid (PL) prepared from propylene glycol-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) and hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCP) that are liquids over wide temperature ranges, including ambient temperature. It was shown that the solvent molecules are too large to penetrate the pores of HCP, so the PL is maintained as a suspension with permanent free volume for several months and can absorb large amounts of gases. This study marks the pioneering use of DESs as the liquid medium, replacing ionic liquids due to their closely matched properties. The structural features of both DES and HCP are retained; the increase in CO2 absorption capacity compared to pure DES is due to the presence of a porous solid and is proportional to the amount of solid. The absorbed CO2 amount rises from 1.0105 mmol·g−1 in pure DES to 1.3232, 1.6027, and 1.2168 mmol·g−1 in PL-1, PL-2, and PL-3, respectively. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the enthalpy of gas absorption allows straightforward regeneration of the PLs in the studied cases. The investigated PLs show great potential as gas absorbents, with the incorporation of just 0.5 wt% of porous polymer material leading to an impressive increase in solvent absorption capacity, up to 59 %.

  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0736-5845 .- 1879-2537. ; 91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Additive Manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized the production landscape by enabling on-demand customized manufacturing. However, the efficient management of dynamic AM orders poses significant challenges for production planning and scheduling. This paper addresses the dynamic scheduling problem considering batch processing, random order arrival and machine eligibility constraints, aiming to minimize total tardiness in a parallel non-identical AM machine environment. To tackle this problem, we propose the out-of-order enabled dueling deep Q network (O3-DDQN) approach. In the proposed approach, the problem is formulated as a Markov decision process (MDP). Three-dimensional features, encompassing dynamic orders, AM machines, and delays, are extracted using a ‘look around’ method to represent the production status at a rescheduling point. Additionally, five novel composite scheduling rules based on the out-of-order principle are introduced for selection when an AM machine completes processing or a new order arrives. Moreover, we design a reward function that is strongly correlated with the objective to evaluate the agent's chosen action. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the O3-DDQN approach over single scheduling rules, randomly selected rules, and the classic DQN method. The average improvement rate of performance reaches 13.09% compared to composite scheduling rules and random rules. Additionally, the O3-DDQN outperforms the classic DQN agent with a 6.54% improvement rate. The O3-DDQN algorithm improves scheduling in dynamic AM environments, enhancing productivity and on-time delivery. This research contributes to advancing AM production and offers insights into efficient resource allocation.

  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the past few years, 'fashion law' has emerged as a vibrant field of inquiry. The legal and policy issues affecting the fashion sector have been investigated with increasing intensity, while a growing number of private practice lawyers and in-house counsel regard themselves as practising fashion law. But what is fashion law? And what are the specific legal challenges facing the fashion sector, as well as related solutions? The Handbook of Fashion Law seeks to answer these questions by bringing together multiple voices, approaches, and jurisdictions. Its contributions are organized into four thematic areas. Part I considers the legal infrastructure or the fashion and luxury industries, addressing issues related to intellectual property (IP) as well as the demands of the circular economy, protection of cultural heritage, and freedom of expression and information. Part II maps the IP dimensions of fashion by reviewing the application of design rights, copyright, trademarks, geographical indications, plant variety rights, and trade secrets. Part III analyses specific contractual issues arising in the fashion sector. It examines the application of principles and rules found in regulatory frameworks, including those governing advertising, competition, consumer, and tax laws. Finally, Part IV dissects and evaluates the role of new and emerging technologies in the fashion sector from a legal perspective. It considers concepts such as ecommerce, 3D printing, counterfeiting, artificial intelligence, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the metaverse, gaming, and wearable technology. The Handbook of Fashion Law offers readers a multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional understanding of legal challenges facing the fashion sector. Bringing together a diverse range of experts, its contributions offer readers an in-depth, critical, and strategic understanding of the fashion industry's legal intricacies.

  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Sciences(China). - : Elsevier. - 1001-0742 .- 1878-7320. ; 152, s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To explore the multicenter characteristics of endocrine-like phthalate esters (PAEs) in household dust and propose effective control strategies for global indoor public health. An on-site observational investigation was conducted in nine Chinese cities from 2018 to 2019. A total of 246 household dust samples were collected and analyzed for ten PAE congeners using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Questionnaires were used to gather information on building conditions, indoor behaviors, and ventilation habits. In residential dust from the nine cities, the total concentrations of the ten PAE congeners (∑PAEs) ranged from 0.921 to 29097.297 µg/g. Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) and di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) were the dominant congeners in ∑PAEs. Childhood exposure to PAEs through dust ingestion was four orders of magnitude higher than through inhalation, with a carcinogenic risk of 5.47 × 10−6 for DEHP exposure in household dust. Higher ∑PAEs concentrations were associated with higher temperature, double glazing, wall paint usage, television and computer use, and indoor plant growth. This multicenter on-site investigation confirmed PAE pollution characteristics and uncovered the inacceptable risk of daily DEHP exposure in household dust under real living conditions. Effective mitigation measures based on household-related information, residential characteristics, decoration materials, and lifestyle should be taken to build a healthy household environment.

  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Science & Technology. - : Chinese Society of Metals. - 1005-0302. ; 205, s. 191-203
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nano-scale chemical inhomogeneity in surface oxide films formed on a V- and N-containing martensite stainless steel and tempering heating induced changes are investigated by a combination of synchrotron- based hard X-ray Photoelectron emission spectroscopy (HAXPES) and microscopy (HAXPEEM) as well as microscopic X-ray absorption spectroscopy (μ-XAS) techniques. The results reveal the inhomogeneity in the oxide films on the micron-sized Cr2N- and VN-type particles, while the inhomogeneity on the martensite matrix phase exists due to localised formation of nano-sized tempering nitride particles at 600 °C. The oxide film formed on Cr2N-type particles is rich in Cr2O3 compared with that on the martensite matrix and VN-type particles. With the increase of tempering temperature, Cr2O3 formation is faster for the oxidation of Cr in the martensite matrix than the oxidation of Cr nitride-rich particles.

  • Learning accurate and efficient three-finger grasp generation in clutters with an auto-annotated large-scale dataset
  • 2025
  • Ingår i: Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing. - : Elsevier BV. - 0736-5845 .- 1879-2537. ; 91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the development of intelligent manufacturing and robotic technologies, the capability of grasping unknown objects in unstructured environments is becoming more prominent for robots with extensive applications. However, current robotic three-finger grasping studies only focus on grasp generation for single objects or scattered scenes, and suffer from high time expenditure to label grasp ground truth, making them incapable of predicting grasp poses for cluttered objects or generating large-scale datasets. To address such limitations, we first introduce a novel three-finger grasp representation with fewer prediction dimensions, which balances the training difficulty and representation accuracy to obtain efficient grasp performance. Based on this representation, we develop an auto-annotation pipeline and contribute a large-scale three-finger grasp dataset (TF-Grasp Dataset). Our dataset contains 222,720 RGB-D images with over 2 billion grasp annotations in cluttered scenes. In addition, we also propose a three-finger grasp pose detection network (TF-GPD), which detects globally while fine-tuning locally to predict high-quality collision-free grasps from a single-view point cloud. In sum, our work addresses the issue of high-quality collision-free three-finger grasp generation in cluttered scenes based on the proposed pipeline. Extensive comparative experiments show that our proposed methodology outperforms previous methods and improves the grasp quality and efficiency in clutters. The superior results in real-world robot grasping experiments not only prove the reliability of our grasp model but also pave the way for practical applications of three-finger grasping. Our dataset and source code will be released.

  • Spatially resolved structural and chemical properties of the white layer in machined Inconel 718 super alloy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Materials and Design. - 0264-1275. ; 239
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inconel 718 is one type of nickel-based alloy used for a large range of applications, including gas turbines and aeroengines components. Although mechanical and thermodynamic properties of this material have been deeply studied in the past years, a method able to investigate local properties of the thin white layer formed on the alloy surface after machining remains challenging. Here, a 90 nm X-ray beam is used to probe the local strain, crystal orientation, and chemical composition of grains in the white layer. Data reveals mosaicity induced by the tool during machining. The high spatial resolution, combined with crystal lattice sensitivity, shows that the average grain size is around 30 nm throughout the white layer, while the strain is anisotropic nearest to the surface. Results provide new insights on the basic properties of the white layer in super alloys, revealing important information about the impact of finish machining which might help to explain fatigue and cracking formation on these materials during their usage phase.

  • A World Order in Transformation? : A Comparative Study of Consequences of the War and Reactions to These Changes in the Region
  • 2024
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Russia's full-scale invasion and war of aggression against Ukraine has, in addition to all the destruction, grief and terror for the people concerned, unravelled the profound instability in what has conventionally been understood as the world order. The annual publication CBEES State of the Region report focuses on Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Balkans, and the Baltic Sea region, where we find countries that are closest to the war. This year, we have engaged over 30 scholars to analyze how the countries in this region have been affected by the war to form a tentative understanding of the unfolding consequences of the war for the region. Understandably, the consequences of the war tie into historical and contemporary conditions that also preceded the war.The report presents a contemporary overview of the diversity of challenges the region and its countries face today, both on a macro level and on a grassroots level and gives a preliminary analysis of the implications for the region's future.

  • A TDD Distributed MIMO Testbed Using a 1-bit Radio-Over-Fiber Fronthaul Architecture
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. - 0018-9480 .- 1557-9670. ; In Press
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the uplink and downlink of a time-division duplex distributed multiple-input multiple-output (D-MIMO) testbed, based on a 1-bit radio-over-fiber architecture, which is low cost and scalable. The proposed architecture involves a central unit (CU) that is equipped with 1-bit digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters, operating at 10 GS/s. The CU is connected to multiple single-antenna remote radio heads (RRHs) via optical fibers, over which a binary radio frequency (RF) waveform is transmitted. In the uplink, a binary RF waveform is generated at the RRHs by a comparator, whose inputs are the received RF signal and a suitably designed dither signal. In the downlink, a binary RF waveform is generated at the CU via bandpass sigma-delta modulation. Our measurement results show that low error-vector magnitude (EVM) can be achieved in both the uplink and the downlink, despite 1-bit sampling at the CU. Specifically, for point-to-point over-cable transmission between a single user equipment (UE) and a CU equipped with a single RRH, we report, for a 10-MBd signal using single-carrier (SC) 16 quadratic-amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation, an EVM of 3.3% in the downlink, and of 4.5% in the uplink. We then consider a CU connected to three RRHs serving over the air two UEs, and show that, after over-the-air reciprocity calibration, a downlink zero-forcing precoder designed on the basis of uplink channel estimates at the CU achieves an EVM of 6.4% and 10.9% at UE 1 and UE 2, respectively. Finally, we investigate the ability of the proposed architecture to support orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveforms, and its robustness against both in-band and out-of-band interference.

  • Development of a novel solar dryer with an incorporated heat exchanger
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy. - 0038-092X. ; 269
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study analyzes the thermal performance of an indirect-type solar dryer incorporated with a heat exchanger to recover heat from the exhaust. Data were recorded for 8 h from 9:00 to 17:00 from November to January to determine the drying rate for varying airflows from 2 l/s to 12 l/s under the weather conditions of Nepal and Bhutan. The air temperatures in multiple locations in the dryer were recorded and logged for 30-second intervals. The results indicated that incorporating a simple heat exchanger can achieve 78 % and 81 % effectiveness for the lowest tested airflow of 2.5 l/s and 2 l/s in Nepal and Bhutan. The heat transfer effectiveness increases with decreasing flow, resulting in a higher cold side outlet temperature of the heat exchanger for lower airflows. The solar air collector demonstrated efficient performance, achieving 80 % and 90 % efficiencies for the highest tested airflows of 12 l/s and 10 l/s in Nepal and Bhutan, respectively. Due to an increased heat transfer coefficient, the incoming air can effectively remove the accumulated heat from the absorber plate for higher airflows. The drying rates were observed to be the highest for 12 l/s, with a value of 85 g/(h × m2) for apples and 10 l/s, with a value of 56 g/(h × m2) for gingers in Nepal and Bhutan, respectively. From both cases, it can be concluded that the highest tested airflows provide higher air circulation for effective heat and mass transfer from the product to the surrounding air for drying.

  • A precise measurement of the Z-boson double-differential transverse momentum and rapidity distributions in the full phase space of the decay leptons with the ATLAS experiment at s=8 TeV
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 84:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents for the first time a precise measurement of the production properties of the Z boson in the full phase space of the decay leptons. This is in contrast to the many previous precise unfolded measurements performed in the fiducial phase space of the decay leptons. The measurement is obtained from proton–proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2012 at s=8 TeV at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb-1. The results, based on a total of 15.3 million Z-boson decays to electron and muon pairs, extend and improve a previous measurement of the full set of angular coefficients describing Z-boson decay. The double-differential cross-section distributions in Z-boson transverse momentum pT and rapidity y are measured in the pole region, defined as 80

  • A search for top-squark pair production, in final states containing a top quark, a charm quark and missing transverse momentum, using the 139 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 2024:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a search for top-squark pair production in final states with a top quark, a charm quark and missing transverse momentum. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector during LHC Run 2 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV. The analysis is motivated by an extended Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model featuring a non-minimal flavour violation in the second- and third-generation squark sector. The top squark in this model has two possible decay modes, either t~1→cχ~10 or t~1→tχ~10, where the χ~10 is undetected. The analysis is optimised assuming that both of the decay modes are equally probable, leading to the most likely final state of tc+ETmiss. Good agreement is found between the Standard Model expectation and the data in the search regions. Exclusion limits at 95% CL are obtained in the mt~1 vs. mχ~10 plane and, in addition, limits on the branching ratio of the t~1→tχ~10 decay as a function of m(t~1) are also produced. Top-squark masses of up to 800 GeV are excluded for scenarios with light neutralinos, and top-squark masses up to 600 GeV are excluded in scenarios where the neutralino and the top squark are almost mass degenerate.

  • Azimuthal Angle Correlations of Muons Produced via Heavy-Flavor Decays in 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and pp Collisions with the ATLAS Detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007. ; 132:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Angular correlations between heavy quarks provide a unique probe of the quark-gluon plasma created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Results are presented of a measurement of the azimuthal angle correlations between muons originating from semileptonic decays of heavy quarks produced in 5.02 TeV Formula Presented and Formula Presented collisions at the LHC. The muons are measured with transverse momenta and pseudorapidities satisfying Formula Presented and Formula Presented, respectively. The distributions of azimuthal angle separation Formula Presented for muon pairs having pseudorapidity separation Formula Presented, are measured in different Formula Presented centrality intervals and compared to the same distribution measured in Formula Presented collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. Results are presented separately for muon pairs with opposite-sign charges, same-sign charges, and all pairs. A clear peak is observed in all Formula Presented distributions at Formula Presented, consistent with the parent heavy-quark pairs being produced via hard-scattering processes. The widths of that peak, characterized using Cauchy-Lorentz fits to the Formula Presented distributions, are found to not vary significantly as a function of Formula Presented collision centrality and are similar for Formula Presented and Formula Presented collisions. This observation will provide important constraints on theoretical descriptions of heavy-quark interactions with the quark-gluon plasma. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration.

  • Combination of searches for pair-produced leptoquarks at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 854
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A statistical combination of various searches for pair-produced leptoquarks is presented, using the full LHC Run 2 (2015–2018) data set of 139 fb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector from proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV. All possible decays of the leptoquarks into quarks of the third generation and charged or neutral leptons of any generation are investigated. Since no significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed in any of the individual analyses, combined exclusion limits are set on the production cross-sections for scalar and vector leptoquarks. The resulting lower bounds on leptoquark masses exceed those from the individual analyses by up to 100 GeV, depending on the signal hypothesis.

  • Differential cross-section measurements of the production of four charged leptons in association with two jets using the ATLAS detector
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Nature. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 2024:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Differential cross-sections are measured for the production of four charged leptons in association with two jets. These measurements are sensitive to final states in which the jets are produced via the strong interaction as well as to the purely-electroweak vector boson scattering process. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by ATLAS at root s = 13TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb(-1). The data are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution and are compared to stateof-the-art Monte Carlo event generator predictions. The differential cross-sections are used to search for anomalous weak-boson self-interactions that are induced by dimension-six and dimension-eight operators in Standard Model effective field theory.
