  • Assessing co-creation of value using Service Science to promote students shift from passive to active learners
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Lärarlärdom. - Kalmar : Linnaeus University. - 9789188357083 ; , s. 1-24
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper our aim is to study the co-creation of value in E-learning in the context of Swedish higher education. In order to conceptualize the value realization in learning processes, we propose a framework based on service dominant logic and service science as well as on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy. The service science approach contends that universities and teachers can only propose value of education and offer resources to its realization, but the real value of learning is always created collaboratively and interactively with learners and learner networks. The interactive participation within learning networks entails that it is not sufficient to only acquire factual knowledge from others but it is also necessary to create and exchange new knowledge. In terms of the revised Bloom’s taxonomy this implies a shift from lower to higher order of thinking, towards more abstract forms of cognitive skills. We suggest that a successful interactive value realization in the learning process can facilitate the anticipated progress from passive to active learners. A pilot test has been conducted at the end of the spring semester 2015 on two distance based courses for bachelor students offered by the Department of Computer Science at Linnaeus University. The result from this preliminary survey aims to point out the direction for further research efforts.

  • Going digital as a result of COVID-19 : Insights from students’ and teachers’ impressions in a Swedish university
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Educational Research Open. - : Elsevier. - 2666-3740. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the past two years, the entire world has been coping with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemics. The need for physical distancing, forced an accelerated digital transformation of the education sector. The emergency remote education (ERE) has been manifested differently across diverse countries in the world. In this paper, we bring a case study about students’ and teachers’ impressions and experiences regarding the changes that have happened due to pandemic conditions in university courses in informatics at a Swedish university. This research is conducted through a mix of quantitative and qualitative empirical data. These data have been collected through the students surveys, course logs, as well as teachers and ICT pedagogue interviews. The collected data have been analyzed through the technology-mediated learning (TML) theoretical framework. Based on the thematic analysis on the collected data, we have identified three main themes: a) Preparedness, b) Challenges with ERE and c) Opportunities with ERE. As a result, through analyzing data in the light of the ERE experiences that encompasses the educational process, affordance, and beliefs, knowledge, and practices, we provide a set of lessons-learned experiences and indicate the possible lines of actions when it comes to the learning design in the constrained pandemic situations.

  • Tackling the Sustainability of Digital Aging Innovations Through Design Thinking and Systems Thinking Perspectives
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ICT for Health, Accessibility and Wellbeing. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030942083 - 9783030942090 ; , s. 179-184
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The digitalization of society brings many opportunities and challenges, especially on how we organize the welfare society in the future. This becomes especially pertinent as we are heading toward a global increase of older people, which will strain healthcare and bring the challenge of building sustainable solutions. In this paper, we argue that the unsustainable solutions within healthcare are due to them being defined and ‘solved’ with a single approach or approaches used in silos. We advocate that a more sustainable solution could be achieved by combining systems thinking and design thinking perspectives throughout the entire process—from problem definition to solution offering. A benefit of such combined perspectives is the ability to develop a shared context among all stakeholders, which helps uncover unique tacit knowledge from their experience. This will serve as a solid foundation to generate unconventional ideas that will lead to sustainable and satisfactory solutions.

  • Current Knowledge about Providing Drug–Drug Interaction Services for Patients : A Scoping Review
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Pharmacy. - : MDPI. - 2226-4787. ; 9:2
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Drug–drug interactions (DDIs) pose a major problem to patient safety. eHealth solutions have the potential to address this problem and generally improve medication management by providing digital services for health care professionals and patients. Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) to alert physicians or pharmacists about DDIs are common, and there is an extensive body of research about CDSS for professionals. Information about DDIs is commonly requested by patients, but little is known about providing similar support to patients. The aim of this scoping review was to explore and describe current knowledge about providing digital DDI services for patients. Using a broad search strategy and an established framework for scoping reviews, 19 papers were included. The results show that although some patients want to check for DDIs themselves, there are differences between patients, in terms of demands and ability. There are numerous DDI services available, but the existence of large variations regarding service quality implies potential safety issues. The review includes suggestions about design features but also indicates a substantial knowledge gap highlighting the need for further research about how to best design and provide digital DDI to patients without risking patient safety or having other unintended consequences.

  • Exploring Smart Watch Ecosystem Value Co-creation Experience : A Qualitative Case Study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: The Eighth International Conference on Smart Portable, Wearable, Implantableand Disability-oriented Devices and Systems. - : International Academy, Research and Industry Association (IARIA). - 9781612089638 ; , s. 1-7
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology paradigm comprising physical objects such as smart watches embedded with sensors, software, and networking technologies that are used to connect and exchange data with other devices such as smart phones and systems over the Internet. Smart watches and other wearables are emerging at a rapid speed, and they have engaged the users in redefining their interaction with mobile and pervasive technologies by creating an ecosystem of relevant devices. This research work focused on the issue of value co-creation and better understanding of smart watch consumer’s adoption and appropriation process which can highlight the factors motivating or demotivating the consumers to use the smart watches to achieve different objectives. Through a qualitative research method, empirical data was collected by observation, written questionnaire, and interviews. Using a thematic analysis scheme, the following four themes were generated from the collected data: (1) Getting motivated and maintaining motivation, (2) Usefulness – value-in-use and value-in context, (3) Technical issues with smart watch resources, and (4) Information security and privacy concerns about smart technologies.

  • Innovative Approaches in Health Care : Observational Study at an Elderly Care Unit in Japan
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: UBT International Conference. - : UBT Knowledge center. - 9789951550192
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study attempts to capture a holistic view of the phenomenon of ageing and what kind of impact information and communication technologies can have on the quality of life in ageing society, with special focus on health care. The systemic view recognizes the different perspectives of patients, front line care providers and the health care organization. The ultimate goal is to scrutinize the value co-creation opportunities as well as the challenges and risks when innovative technology is implemented in a complex service ecosystem. The empirical material is collected through an observational study at an elderly care unit in Tokyo, Japan, where robots are used in order to facilitate different kinds of social interaction among the elderly patients. In this context, it is highly relevant to discuss what kind of innovations can be considered as both desirable and feasible – and how the decisions can best be guided by different perspectives.

  • att lära säkert : IT-säkerhet i Nätuniversitetets distansutbildningar
  • 2005
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The current higher education, both distance education and traditional campus courses, relies more and more on modern information and communication technologies (ICT).The use of computer systems and networks results in a wide range of security issues thatmust be dealt with in order to create a safe learning environment. In this work, we studythe security status within the Swedish Net University, where several universitiescollaborate in order to offer ICT supported higher education distance courses. The totalICT-security is defined as a combination of computer security and information security, and the focus in this work is on the information security. The four main components ofthe information security that are used in the study are: confidentiality, integrity, availability and accountability. The data gathering was made in two steps: first preliminary interviews then themain questionnaire. The interview respondents were a small number of students, teachers and ICT-experts at various universities, and the results of this preliminary studywere then used to complete the questionnaire. The main questionnaire was sent toapproximately 700 students, 100 lectures and 50 ICT-pedagogues. The answers wereanalysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. However, due to a relatively lowanswering rate, we must point out that the conclusions made are based on these limitedresults, and are therefore not necessarily generally applicable within the distanceeducation. The results show that both teachers and students involved in distance educationconsider that they have relatively good basic competence regarding the use of various ICT-resources. In addition, they consider that the computers and network connectionsthey are using have adequate technical standard. However, the respondents also expressa need for more information and training in various areas that are directly connected toinformation security issues. What is more, both students and teachers require thatadequate computer support is constantly available. Several respondents have notdeveloped procedures for backing up files in a regular basis. There seems also be someuncertainty concerning which measures should be taken in order to protect computersystem from viruses and also what should be done if the computer is infected. Manyteachers consider that the risk for cheating, especially for plagiarism, is greater in thedistance education than in campus courses. These teachers also spend more time toprevent this problem in distance courses, and may have special procedures in order todetect plagiarism.Even if several security issues are indicated, most of the respondents considerthat the general ICT-security in distance education has a relatively high standard. Thismay be a sign of some discrepancy between the users’ knowledge and their actualbehavior when they use the computer systems.
