  • Resistance of cold-formed high strength steel circular and polygonal sections : Part 2: Numerical investigations
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of constructional steel research. - : Elsevier BV. - 0143-974X .- 1873-5983. ; 125, s. 227-238
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is the second part of the study on the cold-formed high strength steel circular and polygonal sections intended to be used in tubular wind towers. Results from 32 numerical finite element analysis (FEA) models were compared with and calibrated against results of the tests on 32 corresponding specimens. The FEA results agreed well with the experimental results in terms of resistances and load-displacement curves. Further investigations on the numerical models were performed. Yield stress used in the FEA significantly affected the resistances of the numerical models. Using 0.2% proof stress leaded to higher resistance than the experimental results. Corners significantly influenced buckling behaviour in the polygonal section models. Analyses of an oval opening in the tubular specimens showed that peak stresses around the opening were considerably higher in the polygonal section models than in the circular section models. Finally, investigation of sensitivity to geometrical imperfections indicated that failure modes of numerical models with geometrical imperfections according to EC3 significantly differed from those of tested specimens and numerical models with geometrical imperfections obtained from the 3D scans.

  • Resilience evaluation framework towards urban power system
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Energy Proceedings. - : Scanditale AB.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the increased frequency, intensity and duration of extreme weather events have significantly challenged power systems, greater attention has been focused on the development of resilient power systems. Taking a physical-cyber-human system perspective, this paper establishes a multi-criteria resilience evaluation framework for urban power systems, in which two principal elements responsible for power system function degradation are described, and fifteen (eleven objective and four subjective) power system resilience evaluation indicators are identified. Fuzzy hesitant judgement and a TOPSIS aggregation method are applied for the evaluation to minimize expert divergence and maximize group consensus. The evaluation method is then applied to four Chinese municipalities: Shanghai, Beijing and Chongqing, and Tianjin. It was found that Beijing’s resilience was the best of the four but overall the urban power system resiliencies were not enough in the face of extreme event challenges.

  • The Genomics of Isolated Populations of Gampsocleis glabra (Orthoptera : Tettigoniidae) in Central and Western Europe
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Insects. - : MDPI. - 2075-4450. ; 14:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Habitat destruction and fragmentation are among the major current threats to global biodiversity. Fragmentation may also affect species with good dispersal abilities. We study the heath bushcricket Gampsocleis glabra, a specialist of steppe-like habitats across Europe that are highly fragmented, investigating if these isolated populations can be distinguished using population genomics and if there are any traces of admixture or dispersal among them. We try to answer these questions using genome-wide SNP data generated with ddRAD sequencing. We calculated F-statistics and visualized differentiation using STRUCTURE plots. While limited by the difficulty of sampling this threatened species, our results show that all populations except one that was represented by a singleton were clearly distinct, with pairwise FST values between 0.010 and 0.181. STRUCTURE indicated limited but visible admixture across most populations and probably also an exchange of individuals between populations of Germany and The Netherlands. We conclude that in G. glabra, a certain amount of gene flow has persisted, at least in the past, also among populations that are isolated today. We also detect a possibly more recent dispersal event between a population in The Netherlands and one in Germany, which may be human aided. We suggest that the conservation of larger populations should be maintained, that efforts should be taken to restore abandoned habitat, that the preservation even of small habitat fragments may be beneficial for the conservation of this species, and that these habitats should be regularly monitored for possible (re-)colonization.

  • An Implementation Process of Interoperability: A Case-Study of Health Information Systems (HIS)
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: B. Andersson, B. Johansson, S. Carlsson, C. Barry, M. Lang, H. Linger, & C. Schneider (Eds.), Designing Digitalization (ISD2018 Proceedings). Lund, Sweden: Lund University..
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several advances have been made towards health information systems (HIS) use and implementations. However, these advances have not been matched by equal advances in HIS interoperability implementations. Current challenges in this domain are partly due to lack of implementation knowledge hence resulting into a number of failed HIS interoperability implementations. To gain substantive implementation knowledge on HIS interoperability projects, we have carried out interviews through an interpretive case-study approach to investigate a successful HIS interoperability project. Through this approach we propose an initial set of HIS interoperability implementation best practices comprising of these key processes: discovering interoperability need, projecting outcome, managing change and adopting an appropriate interoperability strategy which together depict a contingence management relationship. We conclude that this initial set of best practices contributes substantive knowledge that can guide future HIS interoperability implementations.

  • Decomposing Structural Response Due to Sequence Changes in Protein Domains with Machine Learning
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Molecular Biology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-2836 .- 1089-8638. ; 432:16, s. 4435-4446
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • How protein domain structure changes in response to mutations is not well understood. Some mutations change the structure drastically, while most only result in small changes. To gain an understanding of this, we decompose the relationship between changes in domain sequence and structure using machine learning. We select pairs of evolutionarily related domains with a broad range of evolutionary distances. In contrast to earlier studies, we do not find a strictly linear relationship between sequence and structural changes. We train a random forest regressor that predicts the structural similarity between pairs with an average accuracy of 0.029 IDDT ( local Distance Difference Test) score, and a correlation coefficient of 0.92. Decomposing the feature importance shows that the domain length, or analogously, size is the most important feature. Our model enables assessing deviations in relative structural response, and thus prediction of evolutionary trajectories, in protein domains across evolution.

  • A precise gravimetric geoid model in a mountainous area with scarce gravity data : a case study in central Turkey
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0039-3169 .- 1573-1626. ; 56:4, s. 909-927
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In mountainous regions with scarce gravity data, gravimetric geoid determination is a difficult task that needs special attention to obtain reliable results satisfying the demands, e.g., of engineering applications. The present study investigates a procedure for combining a suitable global geopotential model and available terrestrial data in order to obtain a precise regional geoid model for Konya Closed Basin (KCB). The KCB is located in the central part of Turkey, where a very limited amount of terrestrial gravity data is available. Various data sources, such as the Turkish digital elevation model with 3 '' x 3 '' resolution, a recently published satellite-only global geopotential model from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment satellite (GRACE) and the ground gravity observations, are combined in the least-squares sense by the modified Stokes' formula. The new gravimetric geoid model is compared with Global Positioning System (GPS)/levelling at the control points, resulting in the Root Mean Square Error (RMS) differences of +/- 6.4 cm and 1.7 ppm in the absolute and relative senses, respectively. This regional geoid model appears to he more accurate than the Earth Gravitational Model 2008, which is the best global model over the target area, with the RMS differences of +/- 8.6 cm and 1.8 ppm in the absolute and relative senses, respectively. These results show that the accuracy of a regional gravimetric model can be augmented by the combination of a global geopotential model and local terrestrial data in mountainous areas even though the quality and resolution of the primary terrestrial data are not satisfactory to the geoid modelling procedure.
