  • Numerical Assessment of Cavitation Erosion for a Nozzle Flow Configuration
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 11th International Symposium on Cavitation (CAV2021).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main purpose of this study is to numerically investigate and predict the cavitation erosion mechanisms in a nozzle flow configuration. To do this, an injector type geometry is numerically investigated with the open-source CFD package OpenFOAM. A compressible Euler approached is applied for two operating conditions, where results are compared with other studies from the literature. Spectral statistics and maximum surface pressure results are compared with experiments. Results show that the proposed modelling approach is capable to explain main cavitation structures that promotes erosion.

  • Distributed multichannel random access networks with selfish users
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks Communications (CROWNCOM), 2010. - 9781424458851 ; , s. 5577687-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) schemes allow the users to share spectrum resources by taking advantage of the variations in spectrum demand over time and space. Carrying out dynamic spectrum allocation centrally, however, can be a complex task. For this reason, distributed schemes in which users can access the available channels independently may be preferable to centralized DSA schemes. Cognitive radio systems, which enable user terminals to sense their environment and form their action accordingly, are particularly well-suited for distributed systems. On the other hand, the freedom in distributed schemes gives the users the option to act selfishly, which has decisive effects on system performance. In this paper we consider a distributed multichannel wireless random access system where users selfishly access the channels in the system. We analyze the behavior of the selfish users by modeling the system as a non-cooperative game and we identify all stable operating points (Nash equilibria) of this game. We then compare the performance of this system with a number of cooperative distributed DSA schemes in terms of user utilities. Our results show that the performance of the selfish multichannel random access system can be comparable to cooperative schemes.

  • Towards Beyond Visual Line of Sight Piloting of UAVs with Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 2018 IEEE Global Communications Conference, GLOBECOM 2018 - Proceedings. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781538647271
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we propose a model for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operation for remote piloting of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which utilizes different technologies such as mobile edge computing and augmented reality. Ultra reliable low latency communication (URLLC) is a key service of 5G that enables safe BVLOS operation. Since message size of piloting signal is finite and communication channel is altitude dependent, we study reliability and latency under finite blocklength regime for different altitudes. In our numerical study, we find that for message sizes 30 and 50 bits, coded packet size, i.e., blocklength, should be in the range of 200 and 300 bits to enable BVLOS operation. We also found that minimum distance between UAVs to avoid any crash should be around 0.2 m for 15 m/s UAV speed and different altitudes ranging from 1.5 m to 120 m. According to our study, BVLOS operation of UAVs can be realized by URLLC by providing error probability in the vicinity of 10(-3), and latency on the order of milliseconds for downlink communication with blocklength of tens to hundred bits.
