  • Utilizing a Wristband Sensor to Measure the Stress Level for People with Dementia
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Sensors. - : MDPI AG. - 1424-8220. ; 16:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stress is a common problem that affects most people with dementia and their caregivers. Stress symptoms for people with dementia are often measured by answering a checklist of questions by the clinical staff who work closely with the person with the dementia. This process requires a lot of effort with continuous observation of the person with dementia over the long term. This article investigates the effectiveness of using a straightforward method, based on a single wristband sensor to classify events of "Stressed" and "Not stressed" for people with dementia. The presented system calculates the stress level as an integer value from zero to five, providing clinical information of behavioral patterns to the clinical staff. Thirty staff members participated in this experiment, together with six residents suffering from dementia, from two nursing homes. The residents were equipped with the wristband sensor during the day, and the staff were writing observation notes during the experiment to serve as ground truth. Experimental evaluation showed relationships between staff observations and sensor analysis, while stress level thresholds adjusted to each individual can serve different scenarios.

  • The Effect of Mechanical Characteristics of Basal Decollement and Basement Structures on Deformation of the Zagros Basin
  • 2003
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Two fundamental structural elements, basement architecture and basal decollement, play a significant role in the evolution of a tectonically active region. Using different approaches (field data, literature review and analogue models) this thesis demonstrates that these two elements affected the deformation style in the Zagros fold-thrust belt during Mesozoic extensional and Cenozoic contractional episodes. Reassessment of available data suggests a new configuration for the basement to Zagros basin that consists of basement faults with three different trends. Complicated interrelationships of these basement faults divide the Zagros basin into two major basement blocks, active and passive. This model associated with geological evidence suggests that deformation in the basement due to the convergence between Arabia and Iran is not restricted to the Zagros Mountains but already involves a considerable part of the Arabian platform. However, deformation in the cover units is not only governed by the deformation in the basement, which are decoupled from each other by the Hormuz salt in many parts in the Zagros fold-thrust belt. Geological evidence shows that there is a clear relationship between activity of the Hormuz structures and the basement faults in the Zagros basin. Extended analogue models indirectly show how Hormuz types of basal decollement associated with the opening of Neo-Tethys can control the distribution, number, width and geometry of faults, penetrative strain, and diapirism. Analogue models shortened from one-end show that the spatial distribution of the Hormuz salt in the Zagros belt map viscous and frictional decollements to the thin-skinned deformation. Shortening of the cover results in formation of partitioning of strain into transpressional zones, different topographic wedges and differential sedimentation of growth sediments along the Zagros belt. Model results supported by geological and geophysical data sets suggest that some of the faults previously attributed to basement could have developed above the initial lateral boundaries between viscous and frictional basal decollements.

  • Breast-feeding in relation to weight retention up to 36 months postpartum in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study: modification by socio-economic status?
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Public Health Nutrition. - 1368-9800. ; 17:7, s. 1514-1523
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract OBJECTIVE: We investigated the association between full breast-feeding up to 6 months as well as partial breast-feeding after 6 months and maternal weight retention at 6, 18 and 36 months after delivery in the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study (MoBa), conducted by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. DESIGN: Cohort study. Information on exposure and outcome was collected by questionnaire. SETTING: Norway. SUBJECTS: Women at 6 months (n 49 676), 18 months (n 27 187) and 36 months (n 17 343) postpartum. RESULTS: Longer duration of full breast-feeding as well as partial breast-feeding was significantly related to lower weight retention at 6 months. At 18 months full breast-feeding (0-6 months) and partial breast-feeding for 12-18 months were significantly related to lower weight retention. At 36 months only full breast-feeding (0-6 months) was significantly related to lower weight retention. For each additional month of full breast-feeding, maternal weight was lowered by 0·50 kg/month at 6 months, 0·10 kg/month at 18 months and 0·14 kg/month at 36 months (adjusted for pre-pregnant BMI, pregnancy weight gain, age and parity). Partial breast-feeding resulted in 0·25 kg/month lower maternal weight at 6 months. Interactions were found between household income and full breast-feeding in relation to weight retention at 6, 18 and 36 months, indicating most benefit among women with low income. CONCLUSIONS: The present study supports the hypothesis that full breast-feeding contributes to lower postpartum weight retention and shows that the effect is maintained for as long as 3 years postpartum.

  • Re-placing PStem in the prosodic hierarchy
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: The Linguistic Review. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 0167-6318 .- 1613-3676. ; 37:3, s. 433-461
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A persistent issue for the Prosodic Hierarchy is what repertory of prosodic constituents is needed to define the commonly recurring domains for phonological processes. Even though there is a long tradition of work arguing in favor of up to three subphrasal constituents (Composite Group (CG), PWord and PStem), a body of recent work has argued in favor of a more parsimonious view of the repertory, making the strong claim that, at the subphrasal level, the Prosodic Hierarchy contains only one constituent, Phonological Word (PWord). Any additional subphrasal domains required by the phonology must be defined as recursions of PWord. This paper argues that PStem must find a place even in a parsimonious Prosodic Hierarchy. It cannot easily be replaced by recursive PWord or by a CG-PWord distinction. The cross-linguistic validity of a PStem- PWord distinction is supported by showing that it accounts for a robust cross- linguistic generalization concerning subphrasal phonological domains. Alter- natives to PStem not only miss this generalization but also prove to be formally inadequate.
