  • Genetic variants in the HLA region contribute to the risk of cerebral palsy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: BIOCHIMICA ET BIOPHYSICA ACTA-MOLECULAR BASIS OF DISEASE. - 0925-4439 .- 1879-260X. ; 1870:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common physical disability in childhood, and genetic factors play an important role in its pathogenesis. However, the genetic contributions remain incompletely elucidated. Here, we conducted a two-stage association study between 1090 CP cases and 1100 healthy controls after whole exome sequencing. The human leukocyte antigen (HLA) allelic predispositions were further analyzed in overall CP and subgroups using multivariate logistic regression. We found a strong signal in the HLA region on chromosome 6, where rs3131787 harbored the most significant association with CP (P = 2.05 x 10-14, OR = 2.22). In comparison to controls, the carrier frequencies of HLA-B*13:02 were significantly higher in children with CP (9.82 % in control vs 19.27 % in CP, P = 1.03 x 10-4, OR = 2.17). Furthermore, the effect of HLA-B*13:02 on increasing the risk of CP mainly existed in cryptogenic CP without exposure to premature birth, low birth weight, birth asphyxia, or periventricular leukomalacia. This study indicated a strong association of HLA variants with CP, which implied that immune dysregulation resulting from immunogenetic variants might underlie the pathogenesis of CP. Our findings provide genetic evidence that an immunomodulator may serve as a promising therapeutic intervention for patients with CP by reinstating the neuroinflammation hemostasis.

  • Comparative relation mining of customer reviews based on a hybrid CSR method
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Connection science (Print). - : Taylor & Francis. - 0954-0091 .- 1360-0494. ; 35:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Online reviews contain comparative opinions that reveal the competitive relationships of related products, help identify the competitiveness of products in the marketplace, and influence consumers’ purchasing choices. The Class Sequence Rule (CSR) method, which is previously commonly used to identify the comparative relations of reviews, suffers from low recognition efficiency and inaccurate generation of rules. In this paper, we improve on the CSR method by proposing a hybrid CSR method, which utilises dependency relations and the part-of-speech to identify frequent sequence patterns in customer reviews, which can reduce manual intervention and reinforce sequence rules in the relation mining process. Such a method outperforms CSR and other CSR-based models with an F-value of 84.67%. In different experiments, we find that the method is characterised by less time-consuming and efficient in generating sequence patterns, as the dependency direction helps to reduce the sequence length. In addition, this method also performs well in implicit relation mining for extracting comparative information that lacks obvious rules. In this study, the optimal CSR method is applied to automatically capture the deeper features of comparative relations, thus improving the process of recognising explicit and implicit comparative relations.

  • Comparative relation mining of online reviews: a hierarchical multi-attention network model
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Mobile Communications. - : INDERSCIENCE ENTERPRISES LTD. - 1470-949X .- 1741-5217. ; 22:2, s. 212-236
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Comparative relations behind online reviews contain rich information concerning customers assessments of different products or services, thereby supporting upcoming consumers purchase decisions, as well as helping to identify enterprises market competitiveness. Instead of using the pattern recognition method, this paper proposes a hierarchical multi-attention network (HMAN) model to extract the comparative relations, in order to greatly reduce the requirements of artificial features and the manual annotation in the relation mining process. Such model outperforms both traditional classification models and text classification models in terms of accuracy, with its F1-score up to 81%. Besides, the proposed model has a good performance on extracting comparative relations from long texts where comparison information is relatively scattered. In this study, we visualise results of different experiments in order to demonstrate the interpretability of this model, and furthermore explore the mechanism of multi-attention method in comparative relations mining. This study applies the deep learning method instead of pattern recognition to automatically capture deep features of comparative relations, and therefore it redefines the identification process of comparative relations.

  • Identifying competitors through comparative relation mining of online reviews in the restaurant industry
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Hospitality Management. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 0278-4319 .- 1873-4693. ; 71, s. 19-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • It is of importance for restaurants to identify their competitors to gain competitiveness. Meanwhile, opinion-rich resources like online reviews sites can be used to understand others opinion toward restaurant services. We thus propose a novel model to extract comparative relations from online reviews, and then construct three types of comparison relation networks, enabling competitiveness analysis for three tasks. The first network help restaurants analyze market structure for their positioning. The second network enables to identify top competitors using competitive index and dissimilarity index. The third network help restaurants identify strengths and weaknesses through aspects-comparison relation mining. Finally, the market environment is illustrated in a visual way according to the three types of networks. Experimental results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed competitiveness analysis using text analytics, which can identify top competitors and evaluate the market environment, as well as help the focal restaurant effectively develop a service improvement strategy.

  • Cascade photon upconversion amplification for selective multispectral narrow-band near-infrared photodetection
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Facing the fact that selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region still poses a fundamental challenge, we have, in this work, developed NIR photodetectors (PDs) using photon upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) combined with perovskite films. In order to conquer the relatively high pumping threshold of UCNCs, we designed a novel cascade amplification strategy for upconversion luminescence (UCL) through cascading the superlensing effect of dielectric microlens arrays and the plasmonic effect of gold nanorods, which readily leads to a UCL enhancement by more than four orders of magnitude under weak light irradiation. By accommodating multiple optical active lanthanide ions in a core-shell-shell hierarchical architecture, the developed PDs on top can detect three well-separated narrow bands in the NIR region, i.e., 808, 980, and 1540 nm, respectively. Due to the large UCL enhancement, the obtained PDs demonstrate extremely high responsivity of 30.73, 23.15, 12.20 A/W and detectivity of 5.36, 3.45, 1.91x10^11 Jones for the 808, 980, and 1540 nm light detection, respectively, together with short response times in the range of 80-120 ms. Moreover, we demonstrate for the first time that the response to the excitation modulation frequency of a PD can be employed to discriminate the incident light wavelength. We believe that our work provides a novel insight for developing NIR PDs, and that it can spur the development of other applications using upconversion nanotechnology.

  • Huge upconversion luminescence enhancement by a cascade optical field modulation strategy facilitating selective multispectral narrow-band near-infrared photodetection

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region still poses a fundamental challenge, we have, in this work, developed NIR photodetectors (PDs) using photon upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) combined with perovskite films. To conquer the relatively high pumping threshold of UCNCs, we designed a novel cascade optical field modulation strategy to boost upconversion luminescence (UCL) by cascading the superlensing effect of dielectric microlens arrays and the plasmonic effect of gold nanorods, which readily leads to a UCL enhancement by more than four orders of magnitude under weak light irradiation. By accommodating multiple optically active lanthanide ions in a core-shell-shell hierarchical architecture, developed PDs on top of this structure can detect three well-separated narrow bands in the NIR region, i.e., those centered at 808, 980, and 1540 nm. Due to the large UCL enhancement, the obtained PDs demonstrate extremely high responsivities of 30.73, 23.15, and 12.20 A W-1 and detectivities of 5.36, 3.45, and 1.91 x 10(11) Jones for 808, 980, and 1540 nm light detection, respectively, together with short response times in the range of 80-120 ms. Moreover, we demonstrate for the first time that the response to the excitation modulation frequency of a PD can be employed to discriminate the incident light wavelength. We believe that our work provides novel insight for developing NIR PDs and that it can spur the development of other applications using upconversion nanotechnology. Cascade amplified upconversion luminescence: Applied in narrow band NIR photodetection Selective detection of multiple narrow spectral bands in the near-infrared (NIR) region is still a challenge. Recently, Hongwei Song and Wen Xu at Jilin University/China, Haichun Liu at KTH Royal Institute of Technology/Sweden, and their co-workers have successfully fabricated a novel multiple NIR bands photo-detectors (PDs) by combining multiple-excitation-bands core-shell upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) with MAPbI(3) perovskite photoelectric conversion layer. Through a cascade optical field modulation strategy, a combination of microlenses and gold plasmon nanocrystals, the emission intensity of the UCNCs and the photoelectric signal of the PDs can be enhanced four orders of magnitude. Moreover, the excitation frequency of the PD has been employed to discriminate the wavelength of incident light for the first time. This work provides a novel insight for developing multiple bands NIR PDs, and for applications of upconversion nanotechnology.

  • Perovskite photonic crystal photoelectric devices
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Reviews. - : AIP Publishing. - 1931-9401. ; 9:4
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal halide perovskite materials have been extensively explored in modern photonic devices. Photonic crystals (PCs) are periodic structures with specific optical properties, such as photonic stop bands and "slow photon " effects, which can tailor the propagation and distribution of photons in photoelectric devices. PCs have in recent years been widely explored to significantly improve the performance of perovskite luminescent materials and/or photoelectric devices. Therefore, a full understanding of the key role of PCs and a further learning of the correct use of PCs in perovskite photonic/photoelectric devices are essential for realizing the inherent potential of the superior performance of such devices. By means of this first review, we aim at offering a comprehensive framework description for PCs suitable for high-performance perovskite photoelectric devices. We start with a brief introduction to the basic aspects of PCs. Then, we summarize the influences of PCs on emission/absorption for perovskite luminescent materials. Subsequently, we systematically discuss concepts like light extraction, light trapping, slow-light effects, and structural effects of PCs for perovskite devices, with a particular emphasis on their theoretical descriptions. We argue that the marriage of perovskite materials with PCs can open up a novel frontier in photoelectric devices that potentially can spawn many exciting new fields.

  • Realizing Symmetry-Breaking Architectures in Soap Films
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 132:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We show here that soap films-typically expected to host symmetric molecular arrangements-can be constructed with differing opposite surfaces, breaking their symmetry, and making them reminiscent of functional biological motifs found in nature. Using fluorescent molecular probes as dopants on different sides of the film, resonance energy transfer could be employed to confirm the lack of symmetry, which was found to persist on timescales of several minutes. Further, a theoretical analysis of the main transport phenomena involved yielded good agreement with the experimental observations.
